I heard of Scrapbook Nook through a little site called Yelp...maybe you've heard of it? Anyways, they changed their name to ScrapHappy, moved two doors down & dazzled me with their variety and quality.

This unassuming specialty store is located right across the street from BofA. (Parking is fairly abundant on San Mateo Ave, especially if the parking gods are with you, like they were the day I visited.) The two ladies inside were really helpful & friendly & told me they just moved to their new location in April.

I was literally ScrapHappy, spending a good hour checking out the different isles: school, animals, travel, disney, etc. I was impressed by the never ending racks of paper-the colors are so modern & vibrant & just scream "purchase me! I'm only about 90 cents!!!" In the back, one of the ladies was getting ready for their weekend sidewalk sale; she had all kinds of buttons, lettings, stickers, alphabets all laid out for $1, $2 or $3 each. They were getting rid of older styles to make room for new ones.

I walked out with an armful: mostly $1 clearance stickers & lettering, a few 12x12 papers (very heavy, great quality, awesome designs, most for under $1 each), and a few alphabets that weren't on sale ($5.99 each) but I just could not live without.

This is the first real, live, actual scrapbooking store I've ever been to; I get a lot of my stuff from Target & found ScrapHappy's prices to be right up there with Target's. It's pretty pricey for the beautiful items, but it balances out because they have things like non-adhesive lettering for about $1.99 a sheet. It's dangerous to let a shopaholic like me in there. It's really easy to spend half a paycheck in there, even with the clearance items, but it's a fun & bright place to get all your materials.

I was happy to step into the store, but left unhappy.  Turns out the new name and new ownership didn't decide to dish out new customer service.  It was the same old same old, except at least the Scrapbook Nook was pretty, so even if the staff ignored me, I could enjoy being surrounded by a lot of eye candy and good design ideas (which often enticed me to spend more than a few bucks).  ScrapHappy's layout was equivalent to being in a Jo-ann store.  The store was sparsely laid out with a lot less inventory than the previous store and the designs they displayed were meh.

The most dissatisfying thing for me was the attitude of the place.  It's still clique-ish- if you're not a regular or already a member of their weekly lessons/getogethers/whatnot, they'll pretty much ignore you.  I was ignored by the lady whom I assumed was the owner of the place, even after her only other customer (who was a regular, by their conversation) left.  How do you expect to get new regulars when you give new people the cold shoulder?  I was greeted by her after the third time she passed me, when she HAD to because our eyes met.  And even then she didn't ask if I was looking for anything specific or try to engage me in any way.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but if I can buy all the scrapbooking materials online for half the price, the only reason I would support a local is for the customer service, right?  You step into a store so someone can show you the cool new things, exchange ideas and solve design problems you may have.  That's why I would go to a store versus buying online.

The Scrapbook Nook is still online and they have an awesome design forum.  That's where I'll be going to get new ideas, and from now on I'm definitely buying online until I can find a friendly scrapbooking store.

ScrapHappy (formerly known as "Scrapbook Nook") has moved to this new location and changed their name.

My cousin and I came here for a 6 hour (6pm-midnight) Friday crop night. We had our own table where we could spread out and work on our scrapbooking stuff. We also had access to crop machines (Cricut, die cut machines, etc.) and were also welcome to help ourselves to food and refreshments. Everyone there were really nice and helpful. We shared ideas and experiences in scrapbooking with each other.

They also hold classes almost every night and everyone is welcome to sign up. If you wanted to purchase an item, they put it on your "tab" and you pay at the end of the night.

What I didn't really like was that they didn't really have price tags on a lot of their products so you didn't know how much something costed unless you asked. Friday night crop night is $10...classes can get pretty expensive as well.

Parking can be a pain but if you get there early you'll find good parking. Happy scrapbooking! =)

A good place for scrapbooking supplies...the only store I know of dedicated solely to scrapbooking. They have tons of paper in lots of themes (holidays, trips, wedding, etc.) and solid textured papers. They've got ribbon, stickers, hole punches, etc. There are a bunch of things to look at, and you can easily lose track of time browsing around in here. Before you know it, an hour has passed by, but you're still not done looking. The stuff is a bit expensive, and I wish they would have price tags on things to avoid the sticker shock when you reach the counter. They also have scrapbooking classes here, which seem like fun. The workers are really nice and friendly.
