I called to order new service on 3/24/16. The process to get the service ordered was not hectic as I had my questions answered by the chat feature online beforehand. Upon calling the office, I was told that the guys only work M-F with no weekend options, but they would call 24 hours before to let me know when they would come out to the home. Because family had great service in the Midwest with this company, I figured I would give them a try in this area. Today is 3/30/16 and I called their office this morning due to me not hearing from them since I ordered. Because this would be my first service, I really wanted to make sure that someone was available when they showed up to discuss the yard, treatment options, etc.
The young lady who answered the phone was very nice and professional. However, she informed me that the guy was scheduled to come out yesterday. Sadly, I did not receive a call from them and there is no way they could have obtained access to the yard because it's gated (another reason it was important for me to have that notice). There wasn't anything left on the door (IF they did in fact show up), so I would have never known they were there. It could have been worse...they could have left a bill for services obviously not rendered!
In closing, I canceled the services although the young lady today tried to offer the possibility of someone to come out this Saturday. My only question to that is IF this was an option, why wasn't I offered it on 3/24/16 when I called to discuss my desire to have a Saturday appointment? I figured there are other companies in the service area who may be able to provide a better service for my needs.
Since I never received service, I can not speak to the service itself, but the process to get service was not satisfactory in my book. Hopefully, you can have a better experience!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melody C.Sterling, VA18816Apr 15, 2016
THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR THE SALES REP.
We made the mistake of talking to a sales rep walking around our neighborhood. We NEVER signed up for the service and somehow services were started. We even already had a bill in the system!
I've read a few of the other reviews and it looks like it has been done before. We called the sales rep to see what happened only to have him hang-up the phone on us...twice! We didn't yell or swear at the sales person, but told him that we didn't feel like he was listening to our needs. The negative feedback upset him so much that he needed to hang-up. (Our lawn doesn't have grass so fertilizing dirt wasn't going to solve our issue.) I am giving one star even though the managers were kind to us and closed our account. However, I think the managers need to do a better job of hiring professional sales people. Scotts is a well known name and it is sad that a few unprofessional sales people are causing this company to have such a low rating.
Also, we never received an apology from the sales person, only management. It makes me think that the same person is still doing the same scheme to our neighbors. And for this reason, I give Scotts a 1-Star. Managements needs to fix the problem!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Girish P.Ashburn, VA101Oct 30, 2015
This office is a big fraud guys especially the sales guys be aware of them!!!
I was their customer last year and I cancelled their service this year for very bad results and I am really happy with local lawn company !!
Someone called me in July from this office with an offer I told him that I have an existing contract with other provider and need ask them before sign up and told him to call me next week. This guys took it as yes, signed me up for service and did one service without my knowledge and slap me 75$ bill.
I called their office to tell the fact that I never signed up for the service. All I could get back was sales man had a note saying that I signed up blah.. after repeated attempts I payed their fraudulent service money of 75$
I would never suggest these guys to anyone their service is really bad plus they r a big fraud careful!!
Please spread the word of the fraud!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Keith M.Gainesville, VA01Aug 12, 2016
First off, let me say for the record that Scotts lawn service sucks. I used them before, a few years back, and they were awful back then. I figured a few weeks ago, I would give them a shot again. I have major crab grass activities in my yard and figured they couldn't possibly screw it up. I was wrong. First, I asked them to give me a call 24 hours before they showed up. They never called. The guy showed up unannounced and did the initial treatment; which included fertilizer only. He left a condition report that mentioned nothing about the fact that my yard is covered at least 75% by crab grass. I called the manager to complain. I was told he was busy and would call me back that day. 1 week later, still have not heard back from him.
I used their online chat function and the agent setup another service call. I was told he would be there within 48 hours and he would specifically address the crabgrass. 3 days later, there is still no sign of Scotts. I have been a customer for 2 weeks and I am already done. I will let AMEX deal with them because I am not paying to be ignored.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chad T.Fairfax, VA0165Jan 16, 2015
We used Scotts our lawn care for two years. I had been caring for the lawn myself applying fertilizer and weed control. I wanted some time back so I thought I'd give it to a professional.
I noticed no changes for quite a while. The annual broad leaf weeds that I had been able to control came back and were not controlled. I told Scotts, but nothing seemed to happen. The lawn did seem a bit greener in the summer. Not sure if that was from just more rain or the treatment program, but I'm happy to give them the credit.
In the fall, they were supposed to core aerate and seed. They didn't so I called. They said they'd look into it, but nothing was done about it. I continued with them the next year and had the same problem with core aeration and seeding so I cancelled.
When you cancel, make sure they have zeroed the balance out as I received extra invoices and even collection notices for a couple of months after I cancelled their service.
Scotts is a big company with a generally good reputation. I was surprised with the low quality of service, ineffectiveness of the treatments applied, and sloppy billing. I'm going to shift to a local company that I see a neighbor using with good results.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kari L.Ashburn, VA5727516Sep 8, 2013Updated review
Well, after 3 visits by Scotts over the last few months, my lawn looks no different than my neighbor's who hasn't done any treatments. The grass and weeds look just the same between our two lawns. I'll be canceling my service because if I can't see a difference between our two lawns (and he isn't paying for a service) than its not worth it.
My other neighbor across the street has the most amazing lawn. He is using Scotts Lawn, but is getting the bags from Home Depot and doing it himself. I'm not sure how often he does it, I'll have to ask. I'd rather pay a fraction of the cost and either do it myself, or pay our weekly gardeners to do it.
I'm giving Scotts one star because I'm paying for something...my neighbor isn't...and our lawns look exactly the same.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0May 22, 2013Previous reviewOk, so after my disastrous experience with Scotts Lawn (My previous review has the details of that cluster). I got a call from the Regional Manager apologizing and seeing what he could do to fix the situation. The fiance and I got 1 free treatment PROMISING to show up the next day. So, my highly skeptical self was wondering if a technician would actually show up...since that was the challenge before.
Well, someone did show up, and we got a follow up message from the Regional Manager that night wanting to make sure everything was ok. Hey, they showed up which was the first step. Other than anxiously awaiting for a miracle of lush emerald green grass which hasn't sprung up yet, so far I'm cautiously optimistic about starting a lawn service with Scotts Lawn. I believe in second chances, so we'll see how this goes. If we need to fight again at our next treatment time to get someone to show up, then my 3 stars generously bumped up for his good faith apology and attempt to gain our trust will quickly get stripped back to 1.
I'll keep y'all posted as my new relationship with Scotts progresses.May 19, 2013Previous reviewI called Scotts Lawn after receiving a flyer on my front door. Our lawn was put in by our builder in October, and through the winter obviously got no love from us.
I called Scotts over the weekend and was so happy when a rep came by on that Monday to walk the lawn and give us a quote. He very nice and explained the process so we signed up immediately with Scotts lawn service. I was told I would get an automated call when they would be coming out for our first service.
We got a call that week that someone would be coming by in the next two days. Two days goes by with no sign of anyone. Then we got another automated call that someone would be coming by in the next 2 days. ...okaaay. (it was raining so perhaps there was a delay).
Then a couple more days go by with no sign of anyone from Scotts Lawn coming by. I called the main office and was told there was a bit of a delay with the rain, and the technician had problems with his truck. We would be seeing someone in the next two days. And guess what? Did someone come by? NO. So, then I call back and ask what the heck is going on. The explanation I got was that the tech couldn't find our address. Oh, awesome. So, he can't find the address, and can't call to ask for directions? And didn't bother to tell anyone? So, I gave directions how to get to our place...waited 2 days and again, no sign of anyone! So, then I called our original rep who came by and left a message explaining what was going on. We would love to get our lawn treated but no one is coming by!
Never heard from our rep and the tech never came by. Service therefore cancelled. - Lisa L.Reston, VA1382Oct 29, 2013
This review will probably be filtered, however I am writing it anyway. I have been receiving calls from their automated system indicating that I have a payment to make. I have never used the service before and I want to let them know that they have the wrong phone number. I didn't want someone else who actually owed money to get in trouble. So I called them to tell them that they have the incorrect number for the account and they may want to contact the individual in some other manner.
Turns out it is scam. The guy said if I don't have service they can remove my number from "the list." When I explained that I just wanted to make sure that the person they meant to contact was not actually being contacted, he rudely in a condescending tone said "you don't have service. then ignore it. what are you worried about."
I have no need for lawn service, but based on the fact that I was obviously being baited into calling them, and ultimately treated like I was interrupting their day, I would never even consider recommending them to anyone...regardless of good of a job they do!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Elnora J.Vancouver, WA06Feb 6, 2014
I received their service in 2013 and my yard does not look better than my neighbors. I asked if they could give me a date and time that they would be coming by so that we could be present to let them in our back yard, but they could never ablige. I have a dog and they cannot secure my gate when they come into my yard without notice. Then the person that came to my door told me a different price than I ended up paying. I wanted to make payments, but they said they could not set it up even though that was the agreement when I signed up.
I kept getting calls saying it was going to collection even though I was paying.
I would never use this service again. I frankly can weed and feed my own yard and put the money towards having someone groom my yard instead!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - S S.Fairfax, VA010May 9, 2013
This office has received some up/down reviews. I am starting my 2nd season with them and the most important thing (beyond the fact the lawn looks great!) is that Colleen, the customer relations representative, has been very very responsive to both phone call querries and email. She really wants to make sure that the customer experience is top-notch.
Its a business, so if you're having less than expected services, take a moment to contact her and I am confident she will do everything to resolve to your satisfaction.
On another note, I am not thrilled with their auto renewal policy; they should really verify that you want to renew with at least an email or paper (snail mail) contract. Outside of that the result are very good.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark S.Edmond, OK713Sep 19, 2016
As I promised when I signed up this year with Scotts, after my bad experience with service delivery for TruGreen, I have cancelled my service. Despite specific assurances regarding scheduling and completion of aeration and over seeding you failed to meet your commitments. Calling with 12 hour notice when I was in travel and then not quickly rescheduling was strike one. Another short notice scheduling for last Friday was irritating, but then not showing up was it. Especially when I had the pleasure of being on hold for almost an hour over two separate calls, where I was directly lied to by your staff. At 2:40 when I got home and saw that there had been no service, and was told they "absolutely still were coming and would be there before 5PM". Then again when at 5:15, Danielle assured me she had spoken with the local branch and although late, they would be there."
They were not, nor did anyone attempt to call.
I'm done with your terrible customer service.
One last thing, as I told your rep this morning on the phone, you should change your phone message. It is obvious that our calls are NOT important to you. Three different times of waiting over 15 minutes on hold makes that clear. If it were true you would have sufficient staff on hand to answer calls, during normal business hours in a reasonable time.
I will be posting this on Yelp, and forwarding it to the BBB as well.
You need to take a hard look at your business practices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
