This place is a classic. It is absolutely worth the century bike ride or the long drive from Seattle. They have just about every flavor of shake and malt imaginable--I even saw someone with a Green River Soda Float!! It was all foamy and green... I mean, Green River on tap!
And- they even have a veggie burger. As good as it gets for 3000 calorie lunches!
Yay for soft serve!
I had a nice time sitting outside and eating soft serve here.
I can't believe this place gets such huge reviews. It is ice cream out of a machine, plain old burgers from Costco, I think American cheese.
This is an example of how Americans think big is better. The meat isn't anything stellar, the french fries are plain old french fries. But it is always jammed. I think people think it is so great since it is one of the first places people go after a hike and they could eat the sidewalk after a long hike.
Food wise , this is delicious. Which is most important. The service is always very friendly. HOwever, it really needs some kind of A/C or fans going in the summer time. Also, the owner could remodel the tables inside and still stick with the original theme. So, overall, great food, nasty restroom , crappy dining area.
The shakes are wonderful. They have a ton of flavors you usually don't see for shakes like...marshmellow, rootbeer, blackberry, etc. You can get them plain or malted for a little extra. I tried the burgers once and they seemed average. The meat was a little dry and not particularly flavorful. We took them back home and didn't eat them right away so that might have effected the taste quality. Next time I'll have them at the spot. It's a small join with about 4 tables or so and a couple of seats outside if memory serves me correctly. I also really enjoyed the french fries. Thin crunchy sticks of fried goodness.
This place is a classic North American burger joint. You can still get a great burger and a hot dog. Thick milk shakes and the usual. If you're looking for drive-in comfort food definately check this out.
Location: In beautiful North Bend! Perfect after you've spent the day hiking or playing in the snow- close to Mt. Si, Rattlesnake Ledge and Lake, and Twin Falls.
Food: The burgers are great! Hard to find a burger this good in Seattle.
Price: Very reasonable- great for the family.
Atmosphere: Eating inside- a little crowded, lots of maps on the wall of WA and Alaska. Mom and Pop, old time feel. When its nice you can eat outside.
Service: The girls who took orders today were not real friendly, and that seems typical of the other times I've been there. Just doing their job.
Parking: Not a big lot- can be crowded on nice days.
When I get a hankering for a milkshake guess where I go? Yes! Scott's Dairy Freeze! Thick and creamy, perfectly flavored, and fairly priced. I love them! So many flavors to pick from as well. A flavor for everyone.
I have heard only good things about the burgers too. You'll get your food fast and hot. Fun for the whole gang!
The food and service are classic. I didn't grow up in North Bend, but I know lots of people who did and my husband grew up in Snoqualmie, and I understand that Scott's has not changed one bit. The same spotty but friendly teenagers work there (OK, different ones, but they might as well be identical!), the food is the same, and the building and chairs outside haven't been changed in forever.
The burgers are fine, nothing to get excited about but different/better than the fast food joints closer to 90, and the ice cream is excellent. That's what we usually go there for.
You have to try the "blizzards" they call them something else though.
If you want to step back in to time with ice cream, shakes, and burgers then this is the place to go. It's a staple of North Bend that must be visited by all.
There's nothing like a Chocolate Malt at Scott's Dairy Freeze after a climb up Mt. Si. The shakes are great. I always stop by if I'm in the area. Good burgers too. Skip the chain and come here for a total North Bend experience.
Perfect stop for good food and ice cream, shakes. It really is a oasis on a hot summer day, Stop by and say hi to Ken the mayor of North Bend also the owner of this dairy freeze.
On a hot summer day you're tired, hot and sweaty from a long hike in the Alpine Lakes or perhaps you've been camping or are returning from some equivalent adventure, regardless you're craving something but cannot quite determine what it is. I will tell you, because I know...because I've been in your shoes. You want a milkshake from Scott's Dairy Freeze. Simple eh? Thats what you go here for and you won't be disappointed. Here's a place that all will enjoy, both the kids and the kids at heart.
Walking into Scott's Dairy Freeze is like walking back in time but not in a good or nostalgic way. It's really old and worn down. I've been there several times because they have cheap milk shakes and it's convenient but I would certainly never eat inside the place, stick with the walk up window. Last time I was there it looked like half the class of '08 worked there and the other half was just there to screw around and make a mess.
the marshmallow milkshakes are delicious. my mt. si relay team went here right after the relay race and all got milkshakes. it will be the perfect place to go after a hike up mt. si in the summer time.
We live down the road from Scotts and it is so hard not to give in every time we drive by! I am a huge milkshake fan, you can have one flavor or I always make a combo.. chocolate and rasp or espresso and caramel! stick with the basics food-wise.
