After going over the good reviews and memorizing the bad ones, I took the chance and went ahead with doctor Leeds. I have to say, I was not at all disappointed. I was the first one there in the morning which feels kind of odd when you get to see the doctor walk into his office, but the secretary was so nice (and cute, as that is the general trend on these reviews). The check up was quick and easy and he was VERY thorough in his analysis, offering multiple causes and treatments for various things.
I would completely recommend him for any of your regular doctor needs.
This is going to be a long one so be prepared. I would have to agree with the other 2 star reviews here. I liked Dr. Leeds the first few times I saw him. Yes he is very personable, easy to talk to, spends time with you, takes notes of things you say, calls you personally to tell you of test results, blah blah. Whenever I've been to his office, I have never had to wait long, which is great. But when you really need him medically, it is a nightmare!
Earlier this year I got pretty sick and it lasted a few days so I called his office to see if they could squeeze me in to see him without an appointment. Now I understand that people book appointments and sometimes doctors just don't have time. But I believe that when a patient calls who is very sick (but not sick enough to go to an ER), the doctor should at least squeeze in 5-10 min in between appointments. OR, he could take 10 min less of his 1.5 hour lunch break and be a doctor for patients really in need! Or stay 5 min past his office closing of 4 pm. Is that really too much to ask?? But noooo, his "sweet secretary" (btw whoever thinks she is cute needs to get their eyes checked, she is a major B*TCH with an attitude!) told me that the earliest he could see me was 3 weeks from that day. Or I had to wait until someone canceled their appointments to get in earlier. No other alternatives. Wtf? She wouldn't even let me come in and wait in case one of his scheduled patients left earlier than the next one arrived. I wasn't even given the option to talk to him on the phone because he was "busy".
So that should have been my sign to get a new doc. But after I recovered, I just did not worry about it. Until recently I really needed to see him again and the same thing happened! Once again I tried to get in to see him for an emergency and was told I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. What part of "emergency" does she not understand?! I told her that it was extremely urgent that he called me ASAP, and left my number. In the main time, I decided not to count on it, so I actually ended up going to the emergency room for 3 hours. Late that night, I got a call back from him finally, which was about 8 hours too late and I did not even bother to answer.
The next day I called his office again and spoke to the b*tch again because I needed a referral to a specialist from them. I told her that I had to go to the emergency room the day before and the doctor did not call me back until very late. Her response? "Oh". I swear I wanted to reach across the phone and strangle the b*tch. So I got the name of the referral from them and I will never ever call or go back to that office again.
Be warned, people! Believe the other reviews - when you are in a situation where you really need to see a doc, this is NOT your guy! Would you really rather have a doctor who spends an hour chatting with a patient for a regular check up than spending 5 min with a really sick patient???
I did some research on Dr. Leeds. He only has a few years of experience being a doc, and went to a foreign medical school I've never heard of. There, enough said. Sorry to be judgmental about my doctor, but I want one that obtained their degree from a known program and also has experience. Sorry Dr. Leeds, being nice and smiling to your patients is not enough. P.S. Get a new secretary!
Btw, the specialist referral they gave me seemed pretty incompetent as well and the front desk person is dumb as a stick. Example: She asked my date of birth, I started saying "August...", then she said, can you just tell me the month in number? OMG if you can't figure out that August = 8 then maybe you should not work at a doctors office?!?!? So maybe its their entire medical group - Prospect Medical or whatever. Better just to stick with UCLA Medical Group.
I decided to go to Dr. Leeds because he was close to my home and Yelpers seem to recommend him.
Granted, I haven't had any health issues, but all my experiences with Dr. Leeds and his staff have been prompt and pretty painless. My first visit with him was my physical and we went through my history, drew blood, the usual. My second visit with him was for my pap smear and all went well.
I would recommend Dr. Leeds because:
- He is friendly but not overly chatty.
- His receptionist is super nice and never seemed annoyed when I changed appointment times and days with her about 3 times.
- He always calls back to follow up on tests personally.
- He is punctual and doesn't make you feel too rushed.
PS. I misplaced my prescription and they were totally nice about calling my pharmacy to call in my prescription. Love it!
I've had some great doctors in the past and Dr. Leeds is definitely a good one. Just the fact that I am not sitting on the table in a gown for 30 minutes, waiting for my doctor is a plus. Parking isn't bad at all. There are free garages just a short distance away and for about 30 min. the garage downstairs was about $2 or so. (Remember cash if you park downstairs).
After reading all the glowing yelp reviews about Dr. Leeds, I decided to switch to him as my primary care physician and booked an appointment. The receptionist was very warm and friendly, it was easy to schedule an appointment and easy to find nearby garage parking.
I arrived at the office and was seen promptly at the exact time of my appointment. I was the only patient there at 9:30am on a Friday which was very different from my previous doctor where there was always a long wait - even with an appointment, I'd have to sit around for at least an hour before I was seen. I was partially impressed with Dr. Leeds' promptness and partially nervous - if he's such a great doctor, why aren't more people waiting to see him?
Dr. Leeds is a very young, very friendly, very talkative doctor. He spent over an hour with me detailing my family history and health concerns. However... as several other reviewers have stated, he didn't seem to have much knowledge about several issues that I brought up.
For example, when discussing birth control I asked him what he thought of Implanon. He had no idea what it was, asked "is it new?" (it's been available for several years), and then stated "Hold on, I can look it up on my Blackberry."
Yikes. I don't want a doctor who looks up medical/health/drug information on their Blackberry. I can do that myself at home via Google, thank you very much.
I left the office with the impression that Dr. Leeds is a very nice guy, just not someone I would trust with my health. His office was clean and pretty, his receptionist was nice, and Dr. Leeds himself would be a cool friend to talk to, but I don't want a new friend who I give a $20 copay to each time we hang out. I WANT A GOOD DOCTOR.
If I'm sick, I want someone with the knowledge, skill and dedication to give me an accurate diagnosis and to help me get the best treatment and most updated information possible. Sadly, it doesn't seem that Dr. Leeds isn't that doctor.
And so my search for an excellent primary care physician in Los Angeles continues...
Sometimes I wonder, is it just me or what? In this case, I know that no, it's not just me. I worked in a demanding technical area of a hospital for 12 years. The doctors that did the exams were cardiologists, radiologists, vascular surgeons, neurosurgeons, etc. The docs that came by to see their patients were of all specialties, including internists/family practice/GPs. Dr. Leeds, while yes, very nice, fits the stereotype of many internists/family practice/GPs. Great bedside manner, not so great at diagnostics. Believe the other 2 star review. If you just need a check-up (meaning nothing's wrong with you) he's fine. Otherwise, if you are actually sick, find someone older and more experienced who is in a better position to diagnose and treat you.
The people here giving 5 star reviews are impressed that Dr. Leeds spends so much time with them. Why does he have so much time? Docs in demand, who are great, simply do not have enough hours in the day to see all the patients who are referred to them. Period. That is the reality. Docs with plenty of time have very little demand on them. It's a fact - everyone has the same 24 hours in a day.
Dr. Leeds also offered to give me my annual pelvic exam (I am neither young nor gorgeous, and I'm not trying to imply any funny business whatsoever) BUT really, this type of thing should be done by a specialist. Things like ovarian and uterine cancers are very hard to diagnose by anyone, much less by someone who doesn't do that sort of thing all day every day. He was out of bounds in my opinion for offering that - it should be left to specialists. That left me with the opinion that he doesn't have enough work to do, and was trolling for additional compensation.
Lastly, although I didn't mention any skin issues, he volunteered that his wife was a "dermatologist." This is not true - she is not an M.D., although apparently she is a Physician's Assistant or some similarly-trained person, but again I thought it out of bounds to be trolling for business and also exaggerating her credentials.
Dr. Leeds is very nice and will spend plenty of time with you. If you want or need someone to hold your hand and are not ill, he is fine. I personally prefer someone with better diagnostic skills (he's quite superficial, and I know what I'm talking about medically) so that if/when I do become ill, I will have a physician who knows me and my history and who will be able to do a great job for me medically, if not with hand-holding.
I agree with Muffy. What makes a good doctor is not just how nice an individual is and how many times he might call you just to check in on you. Yes, it would per perfect if the individual is a good doctor and they also have enough time to call you to check in on you.
More important is that they have good diagnostic skills and not miss a relatively easy diagnosis. I had seen the Doctor on two occasions complaining of palpitations and feeling like I am going to pass out. The diagnosis given to me of anxiety was incorrect. Yoga and meditation was not going to cure me. He missed a common irregular rhythm that I had. Either he was not able to pick it up by listening to me because he did not have the skills or he was too distracted trying to promote the aesthetics side of his business that he is trying to develop. The medical patients are not going there for a bait and switch.
So, if you want someone nice, then I agree with the majority. If however, you need someone that is experienced enough and does not miss a diagnosis, you might want to be a tad careful.
This guy is great! No sense in me typing out what has already been said by everyone else here, but I'll also add that he's caring with patients: he always promptly returns your calls to discuss issues right over the phone. He's been my doc for over a year now and I've been to him at both his Culver City and Beverly Hills locations.
Speaking of the new Beverly Hills location, the parking garage downstairs is a little pricy for what it is, but that's really the only negative I can think of.
We all love Dr. Scott Leeds! He is, as every said, so hands on, draws blood himself, answers every silly question you have without making you feel uncomfortable. I've referred 2 friends who now said he will be their primary care doctor for life, so it's not just me..
Even better, his wife Meira Leeds is a PA specializing in dermatology in the office, and is a wonderful, though person in her field . She took so much time with me and genuinely cared about my progress by calling personally to check.
Between the two of them, doesn't get any better!
I agree with all of the positive reviews. It literally doesn't get better. Here's why:
1) It only took a couple of days to get an appointment, and the phone interaction was warm and friendly.
2) The office entrance is off of an outdoor courtyard, so it doesn't feel like a sterile medical building. The same is true for the sitting area. It's very comfortable with an nice fountain providing soothing sound.
3) Cindy, who's a nurse and receptionist, was again warm and friendly. The sliding window, between the waiting area and her desk, had been closed. When I arrived, she slid it open and kept it open: a very subtle yet very nice courtesy.
4) The medical forms were as brief as they could be. I liked that I wasn't asked to fill in a bunch of information that the doc would or should be taking anyhow. In my experience with other doctors, it takes a long time to fill in the forms. Then the doctor quickly glances at them. That's not the case here.
5) The appointment began exactly on time. Scott came in, shook my hand, and a great conversation ensued. I had listed a buddy of mine as the emergency contact. Scott recognized him as a new patient from a couple weeks prior, even though I hadn't listed him as referring me.
6) I have never before encountered an intelligent doctor with zero arrogance. In the past, I have, unfortunately, experienced the opposite. Scott made it clear that he would present me information and that, as an adult, I had the right to make my own decisions. It sounds minor but, as many of you know, that's not the view of many doctors. In short, I felt 100% considered.
7) After a lengthy exploration of personal and family history, the physical exam began. Unlike other offices, where you're expected to wear a paper gown during the entire process, I was able to stay warm and only took off whatever clothes were necessary.
8) Scott told me everything he was going to do it before doing it.
9) At the end of the exam, he reviewed the most important points.
10) Cindy came in to draw blood. We talked during the process and the blood draw, itself, was painless. She's a great person.
That was the end of the most positive experience that I've ever had (in five decades) at a doctor's office.
After reading the A+ reviews posted here I visited Dr. Leeds today for my first visit. I must say all the reviews are on-point. Dr. Leeds was caring, took his time, and helped me with all the issues I brought to his office. I found it hard to slow my own pace after visiting so many doctors over the years who give you 10 minutes to break down your entire life history and medical issues. Dr. Leeds did the opposite. No chart to fill out listing Yes No Maybe. Instead he took about 45 minutes to talk to me at length and discuss any questions I had. Extremely tactful and articulate doctor.
Due to another review posted here I couldn't help but notice the slightly crazy waiting room when I arrived. It wasn't a negative experience but you can see a wide variety of patients waiting for a number of doctors who share the office. Dr. Leeds addressed this issue before I could, telling me that this was a temporary spot and that he will be moving locations to Beverly Hills in January or February. I would also note that the receptionist was EXTREMELY nice and Dr. Leeds was with me before I had time to open a book in his waiting room.
Great experience.
Totally agree with the rest of the reviews. He was professional and extremely nice. On my first appointment we spent over 30 minutes talking and getting to know each other. I'd recommend him to anyone
It's always so hard to find a doctor when you move to a part of town. I just happened to pick Dr Leeds out of the listings, and I'm so glad I did.
He's been very communicative, open, and thorough with me. He is very personable; can be serious and funny, all in one visit. All of my visits have me leaving feeling better. He follows through on phone calls (personally) that he says he will.
His staff at the front seem a bit... I don't know how to put it... I guess, disorganized; but maybe they are overwhelmed with all the doctors in the office to manage. They've always been friendly towards me, and I have yet to handle any billing issue, so they seem to be on top of that, too!
Most importantly, I trust Dr Leeds, feel comfortable with him, and feel confident that I'm in good hands. It's great to have a medical provider you trust, and feel cares about you.
Best doctor ever, HANDS DOWN! He is so knowledgeable and super helpful. I came in for something rather minor but I got A+ service! I am recommending him to everyone that I know! Just a quick update tho.. he is opening up an office in Beverly Hills come Feb. '08 so he will no longer be in the Culver City area.

great doctor! what more can i say that hasnt already been said? :)
ps. free 1 hour parking about 1 1/2 blocks away in the beverly hills public parking lot!
I just love how yelp has been a trusted resource for me. I would never have imagined picking my primary physician from a website. That being said I just came from Dr. Leeds this morning and was totally impressed. The clinic was clean and the staff was friendly. When Dr. Leeds came into the exam room I was shocked to see a guy not older than 40! I was totally expecting an old white-haired man with horn-rimmed glasses. Instead I met with a pretty "cool guy" that I felt could relate to a young and hip los angeleno like me ;p Moreover, he had this his boy scout vibe which I think is part of the reason why he is such a hit with fellow yelpers. Of course needless to say he seemed completely knowledgeable about his craft and was a wealth of informaiton. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a PCP.
I found Dr. Leeds here on Yelp. He is wonderful - spent lots of time getting to know me and my medical history and answered all my questions in a thorough, thoughtful way. Great, great doctor with a fantastic bedside manner.
8 Years in L.A. and I FINALLY found my Primary Care Doc. I showed up the requisite 20 min late and I was waiting for the scolding but the receptionist was very polite (and very cute). After filling out the usual forms I waited for only a few minutes then I was in. The check up lasted almost an hour due to his thoroughness and it was the first time I didn't feel like I was getting the quick in/out treatment. He made me feel comfortable even during the "turn your head and cough" segment. Thanks Dr. Leeds and I'll be seeing you again and again in the future.
Update: 2/20/08
I havent been to Dr. Leeds since because . . . I haven't been sick. I called him regarding a billing issue and he has called twice and been very helpful/prompt. This guy rocks!
Dr. Leeds is a pure professional and truly cares about you.
I found him looking through Yelp and he was on my preferred network similar to many who have posted a review. I went in for a checkup and had to do some tests. He called 5 times within a 2 week period to make sure I was ok and that I wasn't experiencing anything "different" or abnormal. If anyone ever asks me if I know of a good doctor, I'll reply by saying, "No, I know a phenomenal one...his name is Dr. Scott Leeds."
Called early in the day and got a same day appointment. Staff was courteous and friendly. Dr. Leeds is the type of guy that you can easily share your concerns and takes the time to explain to you what he knows and the plan of action for the situation that you are in. I think I found a doctor that most certainly I will be coming back again (in case I have other health concerns). Thanks Dr Leeds!
No point in repeating what everyone else said, its all true. Gives a lot of time to each patient, extremely considerate and does not mind referring you to a specialist if he needs a second opinion, which helps if you have an HMO :).
Best doctor I have ever had. After so many appointments where I get hurried in and out of offices, Dr. Leeds was a welcome change. Incredibly thorough, personable, and easy to talk to. Totally recommend his services.
this guy is gonna get so much business from yelp. i needed a new doctor to go along with my brand new insurance so i consult the yelp. and yelp tells me Dr Leeds is the best in the area.
so i call yesterday and got an appointment today, only downside was the parking, they have a pay garage under and around the building for $1-$1.50 every 15 minutes. pretty gay but i didn't feel like looking around for better. he's on the 6th floor, nice view. go in, fill out normal new patient forms, wait 10 minutes and nurse brings me into a room, and 5 minutes later Dr is in.
i haven't had a steady doctor since 1997 but i think I've found my man. i felt very comfortable and was able to answer the med/soc questions without feeling like a piece of S. he spent time learning my history and genuinely made me feel like he cared! i mean a doctor caring! wow! hah, but yeah, i was very happy with my first doctor visit in forever, and i can't wait to get sick so i can go back =]
I went to see Dr. Leeds a few days ago for a check up and all I can say is WOW! What a difference between his office and my previous UCLA doctor's office. First of all, his office feels more like more of a spa than a sterile doctor's office. Secondly, I waited no more than 10 minutes to see him versus waiting my usual 45 minutes to see a doctor and there wasn't a ton of sick people sitting in his waiting room. Lastly and most important, he spent over an hour with me! I really couldn't believe that he spent so much time asking about my entire family health history and explaining things in detail. On top of it, he is so nice and makes you feel so relaxed and cared for. He will definitely be my new PCP. I would highly recommend Dr. Leeds to anyone!
The five star review on Yelp means "As good as it gets," and it really couldn't be more true of Dr. Leeds. I feel lucky to have found him (thanks to fellow Yelp reviewers) -- the office is quiet, calm (at least on the day I went), and the receptionist was very friendly and efficient. I didn't wait more than 10-15 mins to see Dr. Leeds, and, I have to echo everyone else here in saying that the care and attention he gives to you is above and beyond. You go through all your health care concerns right off the top, no rushing, just patient inquiry and figuring out the right options, and there's the standard "turn your head and cough" rigormarole of the physical which was relatively quick and painless. Truly impressive is that Dr. Leeds draws the blood himself to do the bloodwork. No labs, no schlepping around town, etc. I think he does the basic tests in-house, so he draws the sample himself, no assistants. Very hands-on, old-school patient care. Anyway, Leeds is the real deal. Dr's like him don't come around very often in life so everyone on his patient list is lucky.
