One scoop= two scoops here. Remember that.
They have new flavors everytime but the only one they consistently have is brown bread. WHICH IS AMAZING!!
I came in thinking I would only get one scoop, but ended up coming back for seconds. The ice cream is rich enough but not too rich that I couldn't finish it all. They let you choose two flavors for those two scoops. And they encourage you to sample as well. They have quirky flavors like jagermeister and chai ricotta. I got the brown bread and banana something.. the first time. And brown bread and guiness tiramisu 5 minutes later. The second combo was def better!
Cash only!
Tip: Get the cup so you'll be qualified for a cheaper refill! If you like the cone, you can request to put the cone on top! Cone wasn't that great though :x -

my wife is seemingly addicted to this place.... EVERY time it seems when we are driving around doing something she finds some kind of excuse to need to go here.
"Oh its Thursday, that rhymes with Scoops! Huh - weird.... "
They do have lots of different flavors that you would never find anywhere else and it is quite good. You do have to get here early because they sell out of everything and the choking crowds of hipsters may be too much for you.
All in all, a good spot! -

As a lactose intolerant, I do not write many reviews for ice cream parlors, let alone outstanding ones. Scoops' reputation preceding it, I was pleasantly surprised at the cozy size and atmosphere at about 9 pm on a Friday night. (About all the hipsters--not so surprised).
They are happy to let you sample before you choose, and every order gives you the opportunity to have 2 different flavors. The flavor combinations are innovative and seamless, and I was ecstatic to see nondairy options. I had the infamous brown bread (very sweet) and the mint Jim Beam (creamy and refreshing). I also tried the maple chai, salty sugar, and salty chocolate, which all taste impressively true to their monikers.
The prices are also extraordinary, especially for a boutique parlor. $2.90 for 2 huge scoops--you would have to pay more than $3 for even a tiny one at the like of Baskin Robbins or Ben&Jerrys. On our way out, we noticed a whiteboard where customers can suggest flavor combinations, one of which was goat cheese/sauvignon blanc. THAT is definitely one that I would love to come back and try! -

I first visited Scoops Westside and I was not super impressed. This Scoops was much better. It had more variety, although the one employee helping us was unenthusiastic.
After I tried a few flavors, I opted for the pistachio fig. It was very good! It contains fig seeds and ground pistachios, so the texture of the ice cream is a little gritty. The flavor of the pistachio was so intense that it really felt like I was cracking open a fresh pistachio nut! Yum!
The kid size scoop was just right after a large meal. I like how they allowed me to order the kid size even though I'm not a kid!Listed in: Frozen Delights

Came here to try jasmine in the form of ice cream...
Flavors are a hit or miss. There wasn't a jasmine flavor on its own. The coconut jasmine was really yummy but it wasn't creamy (maybe because it was soy.) the green tea brown rice was yum yum yummy. and the miso something mix was oddly perfect... I can't seem to remember what was with it... jasmine?:/ damn, it was too good. can't believe i forgot what it was. -

Scoops... how I love thee.
Your colorful plastic tasting spoons. Your restroom. Your outdoor dining. Your unlimited samplings of unexpected mashup flavors. Your absurdly low, recession-friendly prices. Your insistence that the alcohol in such flavors as Guinness Tiramisu doesn't have any effect, when everyone knows full well it gets you tipsy. -

I'm drooling just thinking about this place! I have a love for ice cream that runs deeper than deep. If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, ice cream would be one of my top picks, and many people can confirm this.
Scoops gives extremely generous portions, where their one scoop is actually two scoops and they can be of different flavors. I tried a few and they were all delicious but settled on just two flavors, brown bread (which is so highly raved) and blackberry jasmine. Sad I couldn't take home their entire freezer. They have so many unique flavors!
Brown bread truly deserves all of its praises. It is indescribably delicious that's definitely not too sweet and there are small crunchy bits that break up the smooth, creamy texture. They're like tiny little surprises.
The blackberry jasmine was more jasmine than blackberry flavor but I actually really like it. It reminds me of milk tea and had a blackberry aftertaste. Yummy!
Biggest bummer is that this place is an hour away from me, therefore when I return, and I will, I am bringing an ice chest with me to get pints and pints to bring home! -

SPONTANEOUS ICE CREAM TRIP FOR THE WIN!!!
I just made my boyfriend a home cooked meal so we went out for some ice cream as dessert -- on him of course ;)
Thankfully, Scoops is super easy to find in LA (next to a school) and there was plenty of street parking spaces available around the area which was an extra bonus~! WHEE~!
Ice cream flavors we tried include:
*Vanilla Green Tea- awesome! you've got that soothing matcha taste twisted in with a little bit of comforting vanilla. YUM!
*Salt Dulce de Leche- I think this is one of those few times where salt + sweet match perfectly well. Caramel with tiny salt crystals = a taste bud delight!
*Brown Bread - This flavor was SO GOOD! Those grape nuts added a nice crunch to the already tasty ice cream that really does taste like bread :) CARB IMITATION FOR THE WIN!
*Malt coffee- coffee delight~ :) I prefer the brown bread though TEHE!
Just something to note:
-1 scoop = 2 flavors and for 2.90
- you can sample however many flavors you'd like and they won't be stingy about it :)
- ice cream isn't creamy like most milk-based ice creams. I would say it's more of a melt-in-your-mouth fluffy experience, and it melts pretty fast indeed so don't eat too slowly! :P
coming back here again NOM! -

I Love Ice Cream
This place is great. I love coming here because I never know what I might be tasting. The first time I had a vegan Mocha Coffee ice cream which was really tasty, but this last visit I had the corona..YES CORONA flavored beer ice cream... it was actually pretty good.
The prices are reasonable considering the HUGE scoop they give you.
*On a side note: one time I spotted Michael Rapaport sitting in the corner enjoying a scoop of ice cream. -

SO GOOD. They always have new flavors. Cheap and you get a lot of ice cream with one scoop. Wish it wasn't cash only.

Excellent first visit, not-as-excellent second visit.
Right, so the first time I went I thought this place was absolutely amazing, with just the right hint of hipster-dom plastered on the corner walls (pictures drawn by hipsters). BUT THEN when i visited a second time around all the ice cream was uber melted and uber soupy.
I'm just writing it off as an unfortunate malfunction though. Just the ice cream machine succumbing to the pressures of serving too much ice cream on an unusually hot winter day. Flavors:
BROWN BREAD: The best flavor thus far! I didn't know what to expect when I was told Brown Bread was one of the most popular choices, but once I sampled it, I was a goner. Has a sort of, malty taste.
Salty Vanilla with Oreos: The first few bites of this flavor were so delicious, but all the bites following were only OK. The Vanilla was quite salty and confused my buds, which I really enjoyed at first, but after that it just became...bland.
Green Tea: Very tea-y. Me likey.

Mmm I am a fan of Scoops!! I love ice cream in general and Scoops has opened my eyes to a new world of ice cream beyond my childhood 31 flavors.
Favorites:
Brown bread (yumyumyummmm)
Raspberry something - ? rose? lilac? it was something flowery
Coffee
Pistachio
Salted honey.
The only bad thing about eating Scoops in the summer (when I crave ice cream the most) is that the ice cream is so smooth and creamy that it melts SO quickly. I would not recommend taking the ice cream to-go for any friends or to eat at home like I normally would at a Baskin Robbins or etc. Plus, it's too good to resist for that long. -
Review from Amy K.
OMGAH my favorite ice cream place. It's so great. The best ice cream I've ever had!! I've been here several times now and it's always great. Coming earlier is always better since you have better selections and everything just seems fresher. Sometimes they'd be running out of a flavor and they're trying to make a scoop out of scraps. I love they have random flavors and once I had the pleasure of getting taro as a surprise, brownie points for Amy!
One thing I do hate about this place though is cash only. I think there is a ATM machine right next door or something but I didn't know this and one time my bf and I literally had to walk out without icecream which was sad. Otherwise, never had problems with parking (it's close to LACC) and on weekends I think it's mostly free. -
Review from Grace C.
Finally made it here in person. I got my first taste from this place when my coworker brought back two scoops of brown bread for me.
It's a nice quaint establishment in a questionable part of LA. Haha. I was almost a little scared to leave the car from down the block when walking here at 9 pm on a Friday night. The people there are very very helpful and genuine. I got a scoop + one of the blackberry jasmine (which I have been craving since I haven't made a trip to Syrup Desserts in a long time!) and brown bread. It's so hard to pick what you want given the unique flavors available. I also wanted the thai iced tea flavor, the almond mocha, the strawberry and balsamic vinegar and so much more! And this was after a big sushi dinner too! This just means I need to come back to taste the other ice cream flavors!
There's seating inside to hang out and enjoy your ice cream. We stayed til closing time and they were very nice in gently kicking us out. One of the guys also offered to give us a pint of ice cream to go! Haha. =)
Plenty of metered and street parking outside, though you may have to fight for parking since the LA City College is right next door. Cash only, so make sure you have at least $2.90 to cover one scoop! =) -

Absolutely love.
Banana Cookies & Cream - are you kidding me? Incredible
Went last weekend and had Jim Beam Cheesecake. I could have lived in it.
Even if you aren't an ice cream lover, go to Scoops. You will not regret it.
Bring cash! They don't take credit cards. -

I love Scoops so much!!! Being lactose intolerant it makes me so sad sometimes passing by ice cream shops and knowing a few bites of ice cream could get me so sick... I have been coming back ever since my best friend introduced me to Scoops in March. Last week I came and got pistachio and chocolate (forgot the specifics) and it was so good :)

The ice cream here is so unique. They always have different flavors and you can try any of them. I love the orange pistachio one. Its kind of on a dark little side street. The first time we tried finding it we couldn't but that was before gps. :)Perfect place to have a little dessert.

Okay I will admit it; I miss homemade ice cream from Seattle. Not many places in So. Cal to choose from when I get this craving. After having dinner down the street at a food truck round up, Minh suggested that we stop by and have some ice cream before we headed home. Scoops is located by LACC, parking is pretty easy, and the store is cute but tiny. There are some seats inside, along with some outside (if the weather is warmer). The menu is pretty extensive offering not just real ice cream but vegan, sorbets, dairy free ect. This place is cash only and their single scoop is more like a double scoop plus they give you free toppings too!
The cashier was friendly and let us try different ice creams before picking the one we wanted. Minh and I decided to share a scoop of non-dairy Jasmine Strawberry and Ube ice cream. Loved the cute cup they put it in and the colorful spoons. If you have a crazy ice cream idea then you could add it to the board. It was pretty filled when we went with past customer's comments. Some we read were kind of out there but would taste pretty good!
Scoops you are my favorite non-dairy ice cream treat!!!Listed in: Los Angeles Pimpin'

I thought I wouldn't like it after making ice cream at home nowadays. After tasting it, I knew that the ice cream was fresh (after making your own, you kinda know how it's supposed to taste and the texture). I would say that their favors are interesting. Among the new modern ice cream shops, this is my favorite so far. If you like old school, I like fosselman's.

Scoops for dessert after a big fat lunch from Noshi Sushi, one scoop of salty chocolate and fruity something for the other, $2.80 for both scoops although when ordering ask for one scoop the surprise is that they give you two big ass scoops, how amazing and cheap is that, friend had something else and she loved it, it was yum and we had tons of laughter, oh and say hello to Ernestine, I call her Ernie and don't forget to tip her a buck, because it's so cheap and delish any where else it would be 5 to 6 bucks.

Simple, sweet, and spanking new flavors everyday is a staple of Scoops.I came here with my good friend Aaron M. and we were both thoroughly impressed and satisfied.
This venue is located in the Koreatown on Heliotrope Drive, parking can be found on metered stalls in front of the stores front. Tai Kim, owner and founder of Scoops, is known to offer new flavors everyday with the exception of his trademark brown bread (grape nuts breakfast cereal and caramel). He has come up with other delectable flavors such as bacon chedder, goat cheese, lychee, coconut horchata, caramel oreo and chai tea with peanut butter chips to name a few.
An order of "1 Scoop" offers a choice of two scoops for $2.90 while "1 Scoop + One" affords four scoops for $5.00.
I recommend asking for samples before choosing your scoops. I personally like the brown bread (4.5/5) and coconut horchata (4.5/5). -

What a great hidden gem!! I love this place! And the prices awesome! Really!? Under $3 for a HUGE scoop of homemade ice-cream? Awesome! They were almost closing when getting there so many of the flavors I heard about were gone. I guess they are known for the brown bread...and it is so-o good! The staff were super nice...possibly the owner? Got to sample some good flavors...opted for the 1 scoop of blueberry cream and passion fruit/guava sorbet. Right next to LACC...good location...no fancy frills...just a good ice cream shop with creative flavors that keep changing. Looking forward to coming back soon...like this weekend...=)

Ice cream is good no matter what. But when you make your ice cream from scratch everyday, it makes it that much better. They're always changing the flavors and they also take suggestions to making flavors in the future. And if you eat vegan, they have flavors for you as well.
The one staple they have is the Brown Bread flavor which has a unique flavor which adds a sugary crunch to the already great taste. Another flavor I enjoyed was the Coconut Horchata. If you like drinking horchata then you'll like it in ice cream form and with coconut flavor it makes it even better.
Next time I go there, I gotta try their other flavors and suggest they make a french toast with bacon flavor!Listed in: DUDE! SWEEET! DUUUDE!

Scoops is incredible. The gelato is fantastic, the flavors are experimental and yet Tai (the owner/ice cream maker) pulls it off every time. Super fun. And the staff is GREAT! I personally was served by Dana, who was really fun and sweet (and hot, so I tipped her well). I recommend Scoops to ALL my friends and family. Seriously, go there. Awesome.

Sitting at Scoops right now (ok, as I drafted this) and just have to write a review. A friend brought me here a couple of years ago, and I haven't been back since, even though it's only a few miles from home.
Tonight, I was in the area with some time to kill and decided to stop by. Last time, on a weekend, the crowd was crazy. Tonight, on a Monday, it is much more manageable. I was able to try a few flavors, find a table, and actually hear myself think. It was a tough decision, but I ended up with brown bread (the only flavor that doesn't change everyday) and blueberry white chocolate. They are both tasty, creamy, and of perfect consistency. It is hard to beat a price of $3 for such a generous scoop, as well.
The reason I'm giving it four stars is because I've been sitting in one of the chairs for about five minutes and am already incredibly uncomfortable. Other than that, I'll definitely be introducing friends and family to this place when a craving for something sweet, creamy, and creative hits!
11/30 update - tried to bring some family tonight, but they were closed, despite being before 10 p.m. We were all super bummed. :( -

This review shall be a proclamation of a father's unceasing, relentless, eternal love for his daughter (my little bacon princess)
After an introductory tennis lesson from her unmistakably amateur dad....I ask my little girl what she wants for lunch......
My heart melts as she replies...."a burger with ketchup and BACON!" so I happily comply and then ask her what else? Of course the reply is "Ice cream!"
Unfortunately, my daughter has an allergy to ALL things dairy...no milk, no eggs, no butter/cream, etc....
I am in luck as Scoops has FOUR different non-dairy/soy options for all you lovely crazy vegans out there....
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
My daughter opts for the Caramel Oreo and since the bacon flavor was NOT available that day I decided to try the non-dairy Chocolate Almond so my princess could try it as well.....
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Yes, she made a mess. Yes, I cleaned it up. Yes, she loved it.
I thought the Chocolate was pretty good, so was the Caramel Oreo.....pretty DAMN good considering the absence of milk/cream anyways.
Overall...happy daughter = happy pappy....
Next time... I'll just BYOB (bring my own bacon) -

I don't think there is much I can say about this place that hasn't already been said.
Gotta say though, the fact that they've been in business for a while now and still continue to churn out delicious and creative flavors, diverse offerings, and consistent crowd pleasers (brown bread) makes Scoops a place worth returning to time and time again. -

Final Decision: Get early, and get your palate tantalized...
This place was introduced to me over a year go by my buddy BH. The concept of having unique gelato like ice cream has come a long way with scoops grasping this concept by the horns. On any given day, you can have a scoop of horchata or raspberry kool-aid, or a wheat beer cherry. Yes, I know, odd flavors and ingredients you would not meld together, but are a wonderful delight in your mouth. When it hits 77 degrees, you'll see me here all day if I could do so. Keep in mind that the flavors are usually unique to that day alone and they only make a certain batch amount, if you get there too late, you will miss out on the popular flavors of the day. -

This place is awesome! I've been here quite a few times since it's not too far from USC and I always love the ice cream!
Food:
So, they always change the flavors here, but you HAVE to try brown bread at least once. SOOO good! Also they usually have quite a few pretty unique flavors that are really delicious and they're really nice about letting you sample the different flavors, so try a few before you choose. Also when you order the one scoop, it's actually two scoops, so you get to have two different flavors and they're pretty decently sized scoops.
Atmosphere:
It's a small, nicely decorated shop, with a few tables and chairs around. A really nice place to chill with ice cream and you can write on the suggestion board and try to get them to make some funky flavor.
Service:
The people there are really nice and willing to give sample tastes of the different flavors. There's usually a line, but it generally moves pretty fast.
Total:
This is probably my favorite place to get ice cream. The texture and the diverse flavors that they have, make this place really great for ice cream! -
