This has been on my bookmarks for a while now! Came in here on a 95 degree day, brain roasting like a lechon on a spit in the Philippines, I Was looking for some Mexican, ceviche perhaps? Noticed on yelp scoops was n my radar, so my stomach sent a convoy to the site. When I walked in there were only three people inside, by the time I eyescrewed the menu on the wall it was a line of maybe six or 7 behind me.
I had the jasmine blueberry and the pomegranate one mixed together, It reminded me of Italian waterice kinda sorbet /sherbert like, alot more creamier. I would gladly be more than happy to conquer every flavor... In due time my friends.
P.s. I think they should franchise! I'm jus sayin?
I want to write a long, elaborate, glorifying review for this place but there isn't much to say except there's absolutely no other place I'd like to go for ice cream. Completely unique flavors, massive portions (one scoop = two scoops, literally), dirt cheap prices. That's all.
ps, I went around closing time so they were out of some of their more intriguing flavors, so just be advised after 9pm they may be running short!

a guy from norcal "Hella Good!"
they make all there icecream fresh daily and give you a huge scoop of 2.75. pisttaccio ice cream was off the hook. Good icecream, sorta odd location, but who cares..
I miss the creamy.
Thats what I thought while eating this ice cream. I tried a lot of flavors and settled on the Oreo vanilla. The brown bread just tasted....like sugar coated cereal to me.
Im tempted to give this place a 3 but....the staff was so nice and generous with the samples. Also I got my ice cream at a lower price than whats posted.
Then again they did ask what I was doing with a Yelp elite sticker on......
I should wear it all the time

Okay, so after having tasted some popular ice creameries up North, I have to say that I'm glad we have Scoops down here. I paid $2 (brought back the plastic cup they gave me from a previous visit) for two scoops of ice cream!! It's normally $2.75, but you get a discount when you order a "refill." Talk about a steal - Rite Aid charges about $1.69 for two scoops, but this is homemade! Got one of my favorite flavors, Brown Bread, and a Malted flavor. My friend got the Cherry Porto and a Yuzu flavored ice cream. While I liked the Malted ice cream at Bi-Rite better than Scoops, I liked all the other flavors we got. There was also a larger selection of flavors here than at Humphry's. I will def frequent this place more often!
Oh, and don't throw your plastic spoons in the trash - they have plastic receptacles specifically for them to recycle!

I can now say I've had ice cream from Scoops. I can't say it was the best ice cream I've had (then… Read more »
If God made two beauties I would want to have a threesome with...
Brown Bread and Red Velvet, would be my top two picks.
The Brown Bread was just as good as I remembered it from a while ago. The contrast of texture between the cream and the grape nuts were spot on. The Red Velvet was light and creamy with hints of delicate crimson crumbs for extra goodness. My, my Mr. Tai you've outdone yourself again especially since it's been two years, from my last (and first visit) to this dessert landmark of LA.
This is a reminder that I need to come back more often, $3.00 well spent for (2 Scoops of Ice Cream).

*Breakup Letter with Scoops
Dear Scoops,
Please let me know when the Asian Nazi (no ice cream for you!!) doesnt work there anymore and I will come back. We went there last night and she provided us with Grade - A service with a scowl. She was slamming the lids so hard, you could hear it from outside. And before you say, "Maybe she was just having an off day", we have actually given her the benefit of the doubt, we have seen her acting like this for several visits. One time we walked in and she said "Oh, shit" because she didn't want to serve us (ok, granted it was close to closing but c'mon). That time we let it slide, but it just keeps happening.
I mean I love your ice cream, but when it is being served by her, it makes it quite not worth it.
Sincerely,
Waiting Patiently
PS. Maybe we can hook up for a booty call every once in a while, if im in the area, and shes not there.
PPS. please bring back the plastic colorful cups. The white paper ones arent quite as cute.
With exotic hours and exotic flavors, in an exotically rancid and reviving neighborhood, Scoops seemed to be on track to being one of those great hidden finds of exquisite gelato that one discovers in mysterious places.
What a disappointment. The ice cream is grainy, icy, not very full flavored.
Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, but the actual product is a very crude and badly made gelato--like something you would find in an airport terminal.
I have eaten at Pazzo Gelato in nearby Silver Lake and Bulgarini in Altadena, and both of these places are immensely better than Scoops.
I like...
that Scoops recycles their ice cream spoons.
that Scoops allows taste tests with no grudge-y attitude.
that Scoops still charges normal ice cream prices for not-so-normal ice cream.
the wasabi-pistachio ice cream because, um, wow. Spicy ice cream that is somehow still sweet, nutty and refreshing? WTF are they making this with, alchemy?
and
the handsome counter attendant who complimented me on my unicorn jacket and actually struck up an honest-to-God conversation about unicorns.
The ice cream scoops here are big and pretty cheap. Each scoop is really two scoops. And this place boasts some of the craziest flavor combinations I have ever heard of. They have tons of different flavors, but only about 12 or so that they come out with each day. The downside being that you might not have the flavor you want on the day you come.
One of the staples is the brown bread, which was my favorite when I went. I would like to go back and try out some more flavors. They make the ice cream daily and when they run out, they run out.
The ice cream here is also really soft, a little bit too melty. You can read my full review http://www.kirbiecravi...
This place is delicious!!! Love the flavors and how light the ice cream is. You don't feel so bloated and guilty after you've had a scoop or 2. I ordered the Coconut Cinnamon & Guinness Chocolate....SO GOOD!!!!!
As for the location, its right next to LACC and to my surprise when I went the line wasn't out the door. The spot is a little whole in the wall with minimal decoration, literally! However, that's not what's important. They've got great flavors and is Vegan friendly.
I'll definitely be coming back anytime I'm in the LA area.
p.s. CASH only
I wish I could like this place because the flavors are pretty ingenious, but the iciness numbed any hint of flavor my taste-buds were making so much effort looking for.
I wanted gelato and not sorbet, I would go somewhere else for that.
Maybe I came on a bad night. Maybe I'll come back and give it another try. The flavors do sound nummers and the vegan place across the street apparently has some good carnitas.
Coconut Thai Ice Tea Flavor and Mango Orange Basil!!!
when i see Scoops on the vendor list, i'm always excited to see what flavors they are offering. Although, their scoops may not be my favorite icecream, i do enjoy their fabulous flavor combinations and look forward to more interesting flavors to come!

Brown bread

Chocolate Guiness.
Though I've yet to actually come here and order two scoops for $2.75 (SO CHEAP) I've had it at other places, such as The Golden State ($2.50 for ONE scoop :[ )
Extremely smooth ice cream that goes outside of the box and quite frankly... My new favorite ice cream place. Ever.
I was gonna give scoops 4 stars, but I realized it wasn't their fault if the customers (like the couple in front of me) abuse the amount of taste tests allowed for one purchase haha...that being said, i KNEW i wanted an oreo milkshake, but tried a few flavors as well ..yumm! thai iced tea, jasmine pistachio? getting all their funky flavors mixed up...
dulche de leche oreo milkshake...FREAKIN BOMB!!! happiness for $4.50...talk about low maintenance! ;)
Vegan ice cream... amazing.
Oreo banana is the best.
Flavors rotate daily... Cash only.
This is the best ice cream in the world. Trust me.
(And my husband made the mobile that hangs from the ceiling. And the menu board and the walls and and and...)
Well, after many passes down Melrose craning my neck down the street and being unable to see this place and therefore thinking it was closed, I finally got my lazy ass down Heliotrope to take a closer look, and there it was.
The reviews speak the truth. The prices are reasonable, the refill-for-$2 thing is awesome, and the suggestion board is just crammed full of ridiculousness and genius alike (don't mix four kinds of alcohol and add cream to it, that's just not a good idea).
And the ice cream? Tasty! No, it's not the be-all end-all of ice cream for me - I have had better. But the flavors are super creative while still retaining some flavor-mixin' sense (the 4 alcohol idea has not been taken up yet).
We had the pomegranate chocolate, which also happened to be vegan, and the toffee cheesecake. I liked the former - it was super tart, almost like drinking straight pomegranate juice with only a hint of cocoa. Dan preferred the latter, which surprisingly did not have big hunks of toffee, but rather a little somewhat potent swirl.
The pricing and scoop information is confusing but there will be very friendly employees on hand to explain it to you.
In a word: underwhelming.
Ice cream section was empty. :Sad face:
Gelato section was meager.
The decor could use a little pick me up.
$2.75 for one scoop, which really equates to two scoops. The server repeated herself twice because I was so confuzzled, albeit happily confuzzled to include a friend for my thai tea flavor.
I went with a thai iced tea and oreo combo. It was good, but my gelato turned into liquid pretty quickly, so I had to eat fast or I'd end up drinking it.
I wasn't too blown away by what they offered, but maybe next time I come back, I will rejoice with all the flavors in stock.
I will have to admit that my review is slightly biased, as I'm not the biggest fan of ice cream, unless it's coffee or green tea flavor.
I've heard some strange flavors that were supposedly concocted by the owner of this place, like jalapeno...and something else that's equally gross as an ice cream flavor...so I decided to give the place a try.
I'm giving this place a 4, despite my not being the biggest fan of ice cream, because of their pure creativity. You gotta love some of their flavor ideas.
Here's a helpful tip:
The closer you get to the store's closing hour, the more ice cream flavors will have run out.
I got here an hour before it closed and nearly half of the flavors were finished. I settled with Banana Malt and Brown Bread, both very delicious flavors, but a bit on the sweet side.
The cool thing about this shoddy-looking place is that their "one scoop" is actually two! :) $2.75 and you can choose two flavors. :)
Just be wary of the flavors. Make sure you SAMPLE them before you get them. I was about to get the chocolate tiramisu until I sampled it. Phew, good move, Me.
2 words: Brown Bread. Oh my gosh... this flavor is soooo good, I can eat a pint of it by myself! At $2.75 for one scoop, you can get 2 flavors. I got the brown bread and peach champagne.
The peach champagne flavor was so refreshing... you can really taste the champagne, then the peach flavor kicks in later. The brown bread... I really don't even know how to describe the taste, but I love love LOVE the texture and it's not overly sweet!
Tried the coffee and corn flavors also, and they were delish :D Can't wait to go back and try their other flavors!!!
Awesome. One of the best. Small place located near the corner of Vermont and Melrose on Heliotrope, had a laid-back vibe that was great. The innovative selection was a huge plus. As much as I love mint chocolate chip, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, its nice to explore something different and have a little twist on familiar favorites. It's true when they say that in LA, we try to make anything trendy. Chocolate? Well, try salted chocolate. Strawberry? Well, try balsamic strawberry (a great flavor). Horchata and Mascarpone Oreo were two other standout unique flavors that I tried. Finally, the best of the best was Brown Bread (not sure how to describe but those crunchy grapenuts were delicious). I loved it from the moment I tried it and at that point, if ice cream didn't melt or if somehow I had a bag of dry ice and a cooler in my car, I would have brought some to my friends who haven't tried this wonderful flavor. A super satisfaction for the summer.
PS Love the spoons chandelier that hangs from the ceiling.

I went here today w/ my brother, and we loved it! It is a small little hole-in-the-wall shop that is easy to find and had parking right out front...yay!
I sampled a bunch of flavors before deciding, and the girl behind the counter was super friendly and patient. I was worried that the flavors would be very overpowering, but they really arent, they are very smooth. I had heard the whole 'one scoop is really two scoops' thing, but what I didn't realize is that one scoop is really two scoops...like you can choose two different flavors...brilliant!! (please say that last part like the guiness commercial)
I went with the lemon-white chocolate-cream cheese and the raspberry balsamic, and the brother went with lemon-white chocolate-cream cheese and salty white chocolate. Another flavor worth an honorable mention is the strawberry black pepper.
I am really blown away by the low prices at Scoops. I love that their prices are so reasonable...if I lived in LA, I would come here all the time. This is one of those places that I am going to introduce to all of my friends!
vegan ice cream so good so good so good. its better than the dairy version. it has less the creaminess but more of the fresh and refreshingness. TRUST ME JUST GET THAT VEGAN ICE CREAM. besides, the vegan ice cream comes in cooler sound flavors.
these are the words spoken by a meat eater.
Pretty good ice cream. Brown bread tastes like frosted flake cereal but frozen.
Not as many flavors as I thought it would be but it's good enough.
Also had a scoop of cheesecake Oreo, both tasted light not too heavy and not overly sweet.
Once an establishment has over 300 reviews, there isn't much else to add. Just so you know, I generally find fusion cuisine to be contrived and tired. That being said, Scoops is no gimmick. It's legit ice cream with amazing combinations of flavors, so come here, and express yourself without shame. Parking is really bad, but the ice cream is very reasonably priced.
My favorite flavors are lemon jasmine, ginger pear, and Guinness chocolate.
This place is amazing... I usually find myself coming here after a heavy meal of the thousands of yummy Korean BBQ in the local area.. Like Soowon Galbi and Road to Seoul. To me, ice cream to kbbq is like green tea ice-cream is to Japanese food. :)
I love the ice-cream, service, friendliness, and cleanliness of the parlor. Sooo many unique blends of different flavors makes Scoops MY ideal location for a yummy delicious treat.
Brown bread, Guinness chocolate are my favorite ones I usually find myself ordering those but trying the many unique flavors that are available. At such an affordable price, how can I say no?!
Although i am not one to explore all the unique and tasty foods out there, I find myself at scoops going "oohh what flavor is that? .. Is it good oh my god that is freaking delicious wow can I get a full scoop of that?... Awesome!" scoops for me incorporates my wild side and I am thankful for that :)
Anyways case and point is that Scoops is a must-visit for anyone looking for AMAZING ice cream, decent pricing, great experience, and a fun time. I give scoops 5 stars because of the great service and food.
One last thing is that parking is difficult because it's in a tightly constructed street with a college, stores, and houses all nearby. Other than that I recommend you to check it out!
I love ice-cream and I love Scoops. Whenever I am in LA, I visit Scoops at least twice a week.
The prices are very reasonable, and the service is very friendly. The ice-cream flavors vary from day to day, so it can be hit or miss. I personally enjoy not knowing what I might get when I come in. Sometimes I want to get a bowl with every flavor, and sometimes I want a bowl with only 2 flavors.
Personal favorite flavors of the past:
White Chocolate Mousse with Black Sea Salt
Avocado Lavender

Scoops is, hands down, my favorite spot for ice cream in LA. Beats the ice cream spots in SF for SURE (I haven't experienced a bad line yet). I come here every time I'm in the area.....I tend to forget though that it's CASH ONLY!!
Place seems to be going downhill. They have taken to not restocking ice cream flavors after 6-7pm, making it useless to arrive there after dinner. Last time I arrived an hour before closing and they had four flavors left; I walked out without ice cream! Way to lose a sale, Scoops!
They close early on Sundays (6p)--why would a dessert place close before taking advantage of the after dinner crowd? With the Faultline bar running beer busts on Sundays and its patrons parking nearby, they'd do well to stay open.
Still three stars because when you can get ice cream here, it's very good.

oh man....... this place is amazing, they have the funniest flavors that constantly change because people leave suggestions for what flavors they want.
and its conveniently located in fixiebike land. LOL behind L.A.C.C.
dude, they even cater to vegans.................... VEGANS...!!!! hahahahaa
YAY! 759 other Yelpers agree with me that this place is AWESOME!!! [well.. that many gave 5-star reviews]
BACKGROUND:
Okay, so I wasn't always a fan of this place. My very first time was a dessert run after Javier's 3rd Weenie Roast at Echo Park. I came here with Wes, Kevin, and Ken. Had the Brown Bread and the Black Sesame and thought that it was only 'so-so' and only 'okay' - nothing I'd crave.
Then something magical happened, and I've still yet to realize what it is. I came back here with Daniel L, Ching T, Michelle T, Ken C, and Lei B, and.. well... I loved it.
Got the same flavors again because the sister, Winnie J, wanted to try the Black Sesame.
The Brown Bread won me over. Vanilla ice cream with caramel and sweet syrup drizzled grape nuts cereal, it was a wonderful fusion of smooth and crunchy, subtle, then slap in the face flavor. The sweetness of the caramel would jump out at you in the midst of a calm vanilla cover.
MMmmm - me likey.
I've also had their passion fruit mango, their strawberry coconut guava, the salted caramel, and a whole bunch of others that seem to slip my mind right now.
But the winner?
Pear and Plum Wine.
THE EXPERIENCE:
I think that was life changing.
It's like tears from Heaven. It was so beautiful. The sweetness, the firm yet gentle flavor of the pear, flirting with the tongue, with a bold finish of the plum wine, not too strong, but certainly verbose in its presence, was absolutely wonderful.
I had but only a sample because they brought the flavor out as I was finishing up what I had bought earlier. But that one sample was more than enough.
The flavors can get interesting, as they change everyday. The place is quite small and can get cramped REALLY quick. They only have one unisex bathroom, so if you gotta go, make sure you can wait... yeah..
The parking is tricky. You either park at the meters on the same side of the street, park along the neighborhood street on the opposite end, or.. well.. just look around for an open spot.
CONCLUSION:
The prices are a little higher than 'cheap ice cream', but it's still a better value and definitely better quality than Baskin Robbins or even, dare I say it? Fosselmans. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Fosselmans, but talk about expensive.
Although I don't come around this area too often, when I do, I make a trip to see how Scoops may impress me once again.
LOVE IT!

I love Scoops! Whenever I am in the area, I usually drop by and get two scoops. You never know what flavors they have so be prepared for some really unique combinations. Most of the flavors with chocolate are very good. The only thing is they take cash only. SO be sure to have a couple of bucks with you before you go.
There is only one word to describe this place. WOW.
The ice cream here has tons of great flavors, i hear they mix the menu up every day. The lavender raspberry mix i had was amazing. I have a new found appreciation for Ice cream.
Came here last night with my BF even though it was kinda chilly, its always good to eat ice cream right?!
Wow, they had a lot more flavors then the 1st time, I'm so glad. I tasted the blackberry/yuzu which I was excited about because I love the Yuzu taste. Also, there was mango/lychee!! Sweet~~! Last time they were out. So I got both of them.....Lychee was very good but you could hardly taste the mango it was overpowering. And the yuzu was so refreshing and delightful!
I really wanted to get 2 more scoops, the red velvet according to my BF was really delicious, and notoriously, the brown bread looked delicious. Well, that's what BF's are good for! He got the brown brown and salty chocolate. The brown bread was sooo good. I like the crunchy kick to it, yummy and light not too sweet. The salty chocolate, I thought it was just a cute name. Nope, it really is salty!! It brought out the flavors of the chocolate real well, but not my kinda thing.
I cant believe all the flavors they constantly have, it's amazing. Can't wait for next time!

We finally made it here last night (Saturday around 8:30pm). After many attempts of getting there… Read more »
So we decided to come here after an awesome dinner at Tahoe, and I must say that this was the perfect cherry on top of the sundae that was that night. I raised my eyebrow at this place when I first walked in, because the place looks kind of ghetto - not your typical ice cream shop, for sure. But I quickly learned that you can never judge a book...er..ice cream shop by it's cover. I We came like 10 minutes before closing, and found out that when you come at that time, they're more generous with the ice cream, since they want to get rid of everything and hurry and go home. They have super interesting and unique flavors - when I went, they had some weird balsamic flavors that I normally wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but I heard it was good, so I might suck it up and give it a shot next time I'm here. One cool thing here is that the one scoop comes with 2 flavors, so it's really 2 scoops. I got the almond joy crunch and the brown bread. I usually don't like nuts in ice cream(or anything, for that matter), but it was quite delightful, I must say. The brown bread was definitely a hit, though. It was crunchy and sweet.
Ice cream: good.
Us getting kicked out at closing: lame!
Decor could be improved, but it's still a great little place.
p.s. make sure you get samples before you choose for the weird flavors!
Can I say YUM!! My cousin took me here before he flew off to wonderful Barcelona. We had our little ice cream/gelato memory together. It is what we usually do when we are together in LA. Now my daughter, his god daughter gets to spend this fab. time with us. And boy she loves ice cream/gelato/ice how ever she calls it. It's one of our memories we love to make.
If you haven't tried this place.. PLEASE DO!!! it's so cute small and the gelato is just yummie.. I loved the maple Oreo. I don't know if they have different things everyday but that day i was lucky. They even have vegan gelato. It was yummie too, never would have thought. I also had the Guinness coffee not bad but i should have just got one big scoop of maple Oreo.
It's cheap gelato and so yummie!!
I will see you again Scoops!! But yes parking sucks...
SCOOOOOOOOOOOOPS!
Is the most unique ice cream place I have ever been to!
They have tons and tons and tons of different flavors, and the best part is you get to try all of them without no cost (even though it says on the board, more than 4 tries cost $), and the employees do not get agitated with you. No matter how long the line is, the employees are always polite and patient with you.
The place is a bit run down and doesn't seem like a safe neighborhood, but its just one of those hole-in-the-wall places that are just too awesome to avoid going to. It is difficult to find, and the sign is not that huge, so you must keep a look out for it if you are a first timer.
Its also a decent pricing, $2.75 for one scoop actually means two scoops :) I've been here twice and the last time I came here didn't have the flavor I liked, but they had more variety of flavors. So, I'm guessing that scoops are always switching up the flavors.
So if you are ever in LA, this is a must try. It could just be hype, but hey, come in and try for yourself.
Came here for some mind boggling flavors with a bestie after getting our naked toes clothed. Parking was a cinch as there were plenty of meters by LACC. The place seemed like a straight to the point, "we are serious about our ice-cream", no silly frou frou kind of establishment. After a billion "Can I try this?" & "Can I get a sample of that?", I wanted to bang my head against the display case in whimpering rhythm of "I can't decide...I can't decide".
After a mean glare from our server and the impatient foot tapping from people behind us, I finally decided my two flavors of PINEAPPLE, JACKFRUIT, CRANBERRY SORBET & SALTED CARAMEL that came with my one scoop. My friend, the PINEAPPLE, JACKFRUIT, CRANBERRY SORBET & COFFEE JIM BEAM. My combination was delicious! The sweet tanginess from my sorbet with the sweet saltiness from the caramel...wat a happy marriage.
HIT:
-Flavors: Brown bread...Raspberry Balsamic?! I've gone sampling crazy~! The flavors change for every visit to keep me entertained.
-Price: The choices of two different flavors for $2.75 and refills for $2...VERY NICE!
-The flavor board: Entertaining to read the flavors that creative noggins of America come up with. I added a couple of my own (see pix for details).
-Toppings: THEY'RE FREE!!! YAY! Pretty sprinkles for my ice-cream!
MISS:
-Cash only: Put tat Mastercard away! They wanna see some Washingtons~!
-Our server: Don't roll your eyes at me, biyatch before I scooped them out with my neon colored ice-cream spoon. It's my first time, so be nice.
