For an executive course, this is as good as I've seen in LA (heard there was a great course in Valencia, going to have to check that out). The course is very easy except for one thing: the pin placements. And that makes all the difference. The course was challenging solely due to the pin placements being in the most difficult areas the day I played it (Sunday). As well, there a few holes with trouble on one or both sides (13 is only 80 yards, but you can easily take a huge score). It's a fun course if you can hit the ball far, because all the par 4's are in play if you can hit it 260+.

I would highly recommend this course. It can get pretty damn hot here when it's hot (duh, it's on the top of a hill), but if you're close and the goal for the day is to practice the short game (and not the long irons/driver) then this is a great little practice course. The range is good as well, as are most ranges at American Golf courses.

Go the Red Lion Tavern afterwords and make the day complete.

My fave non country club, smaller, 18 hole course near LA. Fun and quick, up high in the hills, amazing views, walkable(although my parents are all about the cart) and great driving range. I am still working on my drive so I didn't mind smaller pars and shorter distances. I realy enjoy the layout of the greens and honestly, for non country club I look forward to going to this course than any other place I have been to yet. There are also tennis courts on premises, I hope to take advantage of that perk next time!
Also if you want to put in a quick game, do the 9 hole!

This is a great little golf course. Great views Los Angeles. Course is always in good condition and the rates are reasonable. Staff is very nice. Bill and Ken are great guys. The only draw back is that you can get some seriously slow players on the weekends. A weekday round is typically 3 hours. Weekends can take as long as 5.

This is a beautiful par 3 golf course, it's nestled in the hills off the 134 freeway and has great views. A refreshing and very lovely course compared to other ones close by. ( i.e. monterey park )

Executive course with some really short holes.  Some as short as 80 yards.  Back 9 has you hitting from cliff to cliff so you will lose balls if you are off that day.  Inexpensive and pretty easy to walk.  The front nine are flatter.

Played a full 18 today and woah, the back 9 is the complete opposite of the front 9.  Narrow in spots, extreme elevation changes and tough layouts even for a short course.  Didn't lose a ball on the front but lost (and found) a couple on the back.  It's a lot of fun but it's one of the toughest 9 holes I've ever played.  Still in good shape and a lot of fun, but beware.  Oh, and spring for the cart if you're going to play the full 18.  And snag a few stray range balls on the front to use on the back if you don't want to keep losing your Nikes.

This is a very challenging executive course. Probably not for beginners. My friend and I lost about 100 balls to the mountain. We're also not very good.

However, the views are spectacular. You're up the hill overlooking LA, and if you're wrapping up your game around magic hour it's great.

Rent a cart. Don't walk. The front 9 is walkable, but the back-9 is up the hill. I think the path between #11 and #12 was up about 16 switchbacks and around the hill. Riding up it and looking down I realized there was no way I'd be able to walk it and still play.

If you want a place with fresh air and great views of Los Angeles, not to mention some great golf and tennis, Scholl Canyon is a wonderful place to waste a day at. Hidden in the lovely  hills above Eagle Rock and Glendale, Scholl Canyon is just north of the 134 off the Harvey Ave. exit and it is adjacent to the 2 Freeway just off the Holly exit. It's a scenic drive through a cute tree lined neighborhood then up the hills into the canyon.

Once you make it to the top where the course is, you'll notice there are many tennis courts opposite of the golf range. So if you're not in the mood to practice your golf swing or if you slicing it everywhere, you can definitely work on your forehand. I don't think there is a wall there for solo tennis players but tennis is better played with a partner.

Now to the golf: The practice facility is a grass range from Monday to Thursday. But on Thursday morning, the range does not open until noon. Friday to Sunday, synthetic grass mats are used. The range is quite big and I believe has over 45 tees, but this is a very popular place due to the views and the nice, cool canyon air. So in the evenings and weekends, the range gets really busy and you may have to wait. This is a lighted range and it closes quite late, 10pm to be exact. There is a great energy over at Scholl Canyon, it's a good mix of people.  Last ball buckets are $6 for 75, $10 for 125, and $20 for 250.

The course is always in good condition and it's a fun short course to play. There are no holes longer than 270 yards and there are plenty of short par 3's. Warning though, the course has a lot of elevation changes so it's best to take a cart. There are plenty of locals there and sometimes there are tournaments for the local golf, senior and junior clubs. So if you're going with buddies for a round, try to reserve a tee time by calling in advance.

The prices are not bad, $22-$33 to play with a cart. The staff are pretty helpful and there's a nice, little food stand there for your post match meal. I usually bring people here to introduce them to the game. So before you go clubbing, bar hopping, take an hour to hit some balls at Scholl Canyon to get the night going with some fun. You might see me here with the Silver Nike Golf Bag playing my Titleist.

Great little 18 holes with some amazing views of Los Angeles. The back nine is bar far my favorite - I have lost many balls to the canyon due to a bad slice, but still come back.

I like playing a round of golf with my buddies now and then and this is a great place to do it. Its an executive course (shorter than usual) up in the hills above Glendale. We love to come here in the winter when it's clear. You can see PV and on a really clear day you can see Catalina. The standard semi-smoggy view will get you Glendale, Century City, the Griffith Park Observatory and beyond.

The fairways and greens are nice and better than most muni's. The front nine is fairly docile but he back nine is a challenge to anyone's game. The fairways back there are thin and the landing areas border canyons.

There are your local wildlife: rabbits, snakes, and even deer have been seen up there. If you lose your ball OB - tough luck man, unless you want your buddy to suck the rattlesnake bite - you know how that joke goes. Leave the ball take the cannoli.

They have a cart  lady sometimes. The eats are ok, the beer is available. Bring cash - no ATM up there.

I always have a good time up there - you can get in and out in 3 hours if you don't linger over every putt and back in time to make use of the rest of your day.

My boyfriend is an avid golfer and tournament, but I'm not so why would I make a review here. Has anyone mentioned that there are tennis courts here? I fancy the tennis, so I get a chance to play tennis here with me my bf. But I love the golf here better than back home in England. First, the weather: Southern California sunshine with a nice breeze whilst up in the mountain. Second, the course is not full of angry old men like they are back in England. It's great to read a book or OK magazine whilst me bf is working on his driver or whatever. But it's pleasant here and many families and kids are playing here. and not to mention, beginner classes are here.

After playing at more courses all over the southland (and into central Cali) such as Angeles Nat'l, the Trump in PV, Harbor Gateway, Vista GC in Valencia, and Cimarron to name a few, I realize now that Scholl is too gimicky.  Love the views but don't think we'll be back again.

This place has the best view of any golf course in Los Angeles.  A very short course, so not the best place to play if you gotta play long.  The greens are not that great, but playable.  The only reason why you come here is for the awesome driving range view.  You can literally see the ocean from here since you're on a mountain top.  From Mon-Wed they have grass tees, but you're hitting on a slight downslope on what seems like shorter rough.  I almost forgot, there's also an asshole Mexican maintainence  guy.  So when you see him, pretend you don't understand what he's saying, then when he gets closer, swing your sand wedge at that douche bag's jaw.

This isn't a bad course, it has beautiful views of LA as far as the eye could see. Even though it's a short par 3 course, it's pretty challenging with narrow fairways and difficult pin placements.  There are two hole in particular that will mess up your score if you aren't careful.  Especially since the green on one of the 80 yard holes is about 10 feet by 20 feet.  (Talk about being accurate!) And you can't beat the price,  $22 for the weekend!

One of my favorite courses in the LA area to play. The course is a 'tale of two nines', as the front 9 is relatively flat, while the back 9 is hilly and several holes are 'target golf' style. The course is longer than a typical 'pitch and putt', but shorter than your typical regulation course. For someone who wants a fun round without always hitting a driver off the tee, this is the place. On the weekend, in the early afternoon, you can always 'walk on' and get out (unless there is a tournament). I have played a full 18 hole round here in less than 4 hours (3 hours, 30 minutes) on a weekend. The views are pretty and the greens are usually in excellent condition. Great place to develop and practice the short game !

used to come here for tennis lessons back in high school... but then picked up hitting golfballs on the range with my mom.  since then, its been one of my favorite places to get the hell away from the city without actually driving too far out of the city.  it would take me all weekend to get thru a full round of golf.. but the green sure is pretty.  watch out for deer on the way down the mountain... it was their home first. :)
