Cozy family run restaurant right off the highway. I came here with a group of five on a Saturday night. They were just opening up for dinner service so we saw the owner pulling the smoked meats from the smoker out front. Food is simple, homemade, and delicious. You can tell that they use quality ingredients and put effort in the food they put out.
-Porchetta ($18) was very tender and flavorful. Served over mashed potatoes which were equally delicious.
-House Tri-Tip ($16) was decent for the price. Well cooked and seasoned, but one of those dishes that I can easily make at home.
-Buckaroo ($11) was HUGE and came with the best potato fries I've ever had. The sandwich itself was quite good, but I'd prefer a little more spice (nothing a splash of hot sauce can't fix).
-Mac n' Cheese Carbonara ($16) was arguably the best dish of the night ("arguably" due to the bread pudding dessert). I would rate this dish right up there with dishes from Bottega or any other Napa restaurant. Very well done with great distinct layers of flavors. The ingredients really shine through on this one.
-Bread Pudding ($7.50) was.. Words fail me. Come here, order one for YOURSELF, and EAT IT. Don't share with the rest of the table because a few bites is not enough.
If your looking to have your ego coddled by waiters dressed better than you, then go to the fancy restaurants downtown Sonoma or Napa.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere (casual/comfortable as oppose to the typical hoity-toity/trendy/hipster of Sonoma/Napa) and genuinely friendly service. -

Well, I've only eaten here for breakfast, but I love the place, the style, the food, the people.
It seems like some reviewers on here are thinking this is supposed to be a bistro or fine dining establishment. It's a diner. It's comfort food, with nothing fancy.
Anyway, I've never thought the food was under-seasoned or incorrectly prepared -- everything I've had here has been great, so I encourage you to try it. I'll have to stop in for dinner sometime, but at least for breakfast, it's a no-brainer. -

Really disappointed. We had been trying to get here ever since we saw the place featured on DD and D. My partner and I walk in, there are plenty of 4 tops and booths available, but we get seated at this tiny 2 top. Okay. Whatever.
My partner asks for water. The waitress turns around to the top of a table where people with children had just departed, picks up 2 water cups and places them on our table. Of mention, they had no lemon wedge in them, while fresh waters being given to customers did have them.
Now, we are really just ready to walk out, but I was starving and we had driven a while to get there. So, we wait. We order the pulled pork and tri-tip sandwichs. We wait while 3 other tables that arrived after us get served their food. It has been about 40 minutes and t this point, I was about to lose my cool. I got up enough gumption to ask where our food was, she says she would "check" and sure enough out it came. I think if you are not a local, you are not wanted.
The pork was overly salty and just not very good. The tri-tip had only 4 pieces of meat and they were chewy, not in a good way. The best thing about the entire meal was the fries. Sad. -

We have thought about trying this resturant for quite a long time, such an iconic spot on the drive fron Napa to Sonoma, we should have waited another decade.
The pulled pork sandwitch was absolutely tastless, we added two different hot sauces to it, just to have some flavor, and the aclaimed fish sandwitch was thin and over crusted, fries were thin like Michey D's without the addictive salt.
All in all we walked into a cold, not one pweson shed a coat or scarf the entire time we were there, room at 12:30 p.m. and left at 1:30 just as cold, realizing we had waisted the calories...let me not forget the creme brulee, with a sugar glaze so thick it pushed the custard out of the dish trying to crack into it, and coated our teeth with sugar..
Yes, we used a voucher, 2 meals, 2 beverages, 1 desert, even at the best price it was NOT a good expierence. -

Went for lunch. Food was just OK. If you are expecting great wine country fare, this is not the place. MUCH better food in downtown Sonoma or Napa. The service is kind and friendly. The worst thing is they serve their beverages in plastic cups. Think of the thousands of cups that are being put in our landfills. Not to mention drinking from plastic in a sit down restaurant. Shame on them!

This could be the closest to home cookin', dining out, I've ever had!
If you're not looking for this place, you could miss it. At the intersection of hwy 12 and 121, you will see a rustic building, a gravel parking lot, and something that looks more like a wood shed than a custom outdoor smoker. Look through the pics people have posted, and you'll see what I mean. Anyway, Mrs N and I were looking for this place because we saw it on DDD on the Food Network. If Guy wants to eat there, why not me? We elected to enjoy our breakfast out in the spacious back patio.
Ok, what's important here is the food. We were there mid-week for breakfast. There's a pretty standard menu, but many items are with a twist or just done the Schellville way. The omelet was filled with incredibly fresh ingredients, including the capers. The Schellville Grill's version of the Egg McMuffin had ham on that was tasty and moist. The home canned jelly was sure a nice surprise. The hash browns were fresh potato shavings that look more like fettuccine noodles, but were all fresh flavored spuds. The hot, fresh coffee was served in whatever mismatched mug they had. Pretty much everything was mismatched and funky. The US map with visitor sticky notes was a touch that will make you smile. We dug that. I'd like to go back for dinner during the weekend when the smoker is in full swing.
The service was great. Spunky was our server, and she was on her game. Flying solo, she took great care of us. No complaints here. If you're in a time crunch or if you are put off by the look of the place, they appear to do a lot of pick up service too. We saw several cars come and go during our visit. Either way, you will like Schellville Grill.Listed in: Food TV

We had good service, the place had a fun vibe, loved the trivial pursuit cards on the table but lucky for us we didn't wait long for our food...
My fiance and I both ordered the Tri Tip. His came with fries (pretty good and crispy) and mine came with the salad (fresh with a thick, wierd but super yummy garlicy ranch dressing)
The tri tip came under-cooked (too pink for my taste) and the BBQ sauce was AWFUL! I was starving but it was rough eating it. It was sickly sweet with a weird coffee taste. Super gross. The tri tip did not have much cheese on it (not that, that could have saved it) and the mushrooms and onions just made things worse.
The menu had some good looking food on it and I really wished I had ordered something else because the tri tip was truly terrible. -

We arrived late on a Thursday morning. Only one server was on hand for the entire place.
Sounds scary right?
She was on it. Our order was taken right away, the food arrived promptly and it was steaming hot. We always had full cups of coffee and she rang us up instantly when we went to the register. I shall dub her: Queen Multitask. I wouldn't be surprised if she had somehow managed to run to the back and cook the food as well.
Whoever cooked it, they cooked it perfectly. We ordered an omlette and the Schellville Grill's version of the Egg McMuffin. The omlette was filled with incredibly fresh ingredients (the capers were a nice touch). The ham on the sandwich was tasty and moist. The home canned jelly was sure a nice surprise.
I loved the map on the wall filled with sticky notes from all over the world. The big poster of Guy made me smile.
We didn't expect the smoker featured on DD&D to be plopped right out front in the middle of the parking lot. It was cool to check it out! We want to come back sometime when they have that thing slow cooking deliciousness.
There is only one shared bathroom and when I say one, I mean ONE. That would be my only reservation about coming here on a popular night.Listed in: Tailing Guy

Service: SLOW
Food: Lasagne was more of a goulash than lasagne. Tasted good but not worth $20. Tri-tip a little tough, good flavor, not enough sauce. Mashed potatoes were great.
Overall not a pleasurable experience. It seemed as if the entire staff was drunk. Lady (guest) passed out on the bar. Busser(?) sitting in corner listening to music on his headphones then comes over to ask us if we want more beer, slurring his words.
I will never return. -

F You Schellville Grill and F You Guy Fieri for recommeding this dump!!
After seeing this on DDD my wife and I wanted to try it since we were going to be in Napa anyways. Well when we walked in the door I had a good feeling because it was packed and the owner/chef guy saw us, smiled, and told us to have a seat. It went down hill from there. This place should be called Shitville Grill.
We sat down and it took 10 mins for the waitress to bring us menus. The whole time waiting all I could hear was the wait staff yelling at each other saying how busy it was (not in a good way) and you could see it in their face that they hated their jobs.
We finally get the menus and my wifey wanted the Lasagna that DDD showed, but it wasnt on the menu. She grabs this other waitress (red head) who was just walking around and asked her if they are serving Lasagna. She gets this stupid look on her face like someone asked her to solve a complex equation, and says "uh, um, uh, well". My wife then says do you serve it for dinner? "Oh yeah yeah dinner right" the red head says. I look at the wifey and say "she had no f'n clue".
20 mins later the waitress who broght the menus came back. Wifey orders some chicken thing, son orders pulled pork, and I ask this waitress about the lasagna. She says its available! Wifey immediately changes her order and I order the tri tip sandwich, no cheese. BTW the wait staff are still talking loudly about how busy it is.
40 mins later I see the chef put my wifey's lasagna (round bowl thing) on the kicthen sill thing. Then I see 2 more plates put next to it, and think to myself cool theres all our food. Nope the waitress pulls the 2 sandwich plates and brings it to another table. This happens for another 10 mins, multiple sandwich plates go out w/ my wifey's lasagna sitting there getting cold. I'm livid at this point, and finally after another 5 or so mins she brings the lasagna and my sandwich which has f'n cheese on it!!!! I stand up and say F this, my wifey shows my plate to the waitress and I say F this I just want to pay for my sodas and get the F out of there. The waitress says "I understand" like this happens all the time.
All in all I wasted lil over an hr of my life at this shit hole. There was a lot more that happened that I didnt include like a waitress screaming at couple who just walked in and said "I dont care where you sit, sit anywhere" in a nasty tone. (those guys immediately left after sitting for a min btw) I should have done the same thing!!
F You Shitville Grill!! -

Way overrated and living off the buzz generated by Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We waited almost an hour for a couple of salads and mediocre sandwiches. In this neck of the woods there is much better to be had. My advice is to keep driving.....

I purchased a discount meal from TravelZoo for Schellville Grill so we could try a new place. My husband and I stopped in here around 8pm on Saturday for a late dinner. The meal included 2 entrees, 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine and 1 dessert (a $62 value according to the coupon).
My husband had the ribs and I had the tri tip. The 3 thin slices of tri tip placed on top of the mashed potatoes adorned with 3 spears of asparagus was good but I was hungry for more and didn't think that the portion was satisfying enough. The ribs were fall off the bone but seemed a bit dry when I tasted it and the rub on the ribs didn't have salt so it wasn't as savory as it could have been. The BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup with a few spices in it but basically looked and tasted like ketchup. It didn't have any smokey flavor or color. The sweet potatoe fries were the best! I loved them. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee. I am on the quest to find the best and although this was good in a pinch with a nice thick layer of carmelized sugar on top, it was too burnt in some areas and didn't quite hit the spot. It wasn't as creamy as I like, but that's just my opinion. The wine pours were generous.
Emily was very friendly and checked in on us quite a few times to make sure we were doing well.
All in all, it was a nice place and I think we may go back to try their breakfast but I would have been disappointed if I had to actually pay $62 for the food we ordered. -

Last minute decision to stop for brunch on Mother's Day. Was pleasantly surprised that it was not that busy -- were told that we missed the morning rush.
Food was good -- not stellar, but still enjoyed it. Service was a little slow and had to remind the server to bring the toast -- but she was nice and looked a bit short staffed for a Mother's Day. Coffee was really good and they kept filled to the brim which was nice.
Overall a nice comfy place to grab a quick bite to eat. -

OK here we go..........H O R R I B L E !!!!!!!!!! So I saw this place on Diners Drive-In's and Dives and when I came across a Travel Zoo deal I thought it would be a perfect chance to give it a try.
I ordered the mix grill..........the pork was so salty that my lips were chapping before the meal was over, the chicken was over sauced and the tri-tip was cold. It says it comes with vegetables on the side.......I guess the ONE lonely piece of charred zucchini was their idea of a side. My friend ordered the lasagna.......it was so-so but again very salty. Then came dessert.............I was looking forward to that since the dinner didnt do much for me...............I should have left without it. Ordered the banana bread pudding; it smelled delicious and the first few bites were awesome until..................I found a long hair in the dessert. OMG!!!
The chef/cook whatever you want to call him was yelling at his staff at the top of his lungs the whole time we were there. Now came time for the check...........The deal I bought on Travel Zoo was for ANY 2 entrees of your choice, 2 glasses of wine and dessert. The waitress told us that it was supposed to be a $62 value and thats what she was going to deduct from the bill. Sorry waitress.................that's not the deal. She then told me that she wanted me to pay in cash because she didnt know how to figure out the math with my voucher (is that my problem I was thinking?)
Needless to say I wont be going back here................what were you thinking Guy Fieri? This place sucked. -

We came here because of a travelzoo deal, but my experience wasn't anywhere as bad as some of these other reviewers are raving.
Anyway, went to Traintown, which is a mile or two down the street, and decided to come here for lunch. Walked in at about 1:50pm, and was told to sit anywhere. We were then greeted by the manager/owner, who told us that the place was closing, but he was still happy to serve us. He gave us about five options to choose from, and suggested the buckaroo and the pulled pork sandwich. We took his suggestions and we thought the sandwiches were great! Pulled pork was nice and juicy, not dry or overly tangy. The buckaroo was filled with flavor as well. We ended with a apple blueberry crisp for dessert, and that was pleasant as well. The owner was very friendly and accommodating.
Yes, you can probably get the same food somewhere else, but the vibe of this place, which is set at the corner of some dirt rode in Sonoma, and the customer service will definitely be a hit in my book. -

We ate here three times during our recent wine country visit and to say the food was good would be an understatement!
We had breakfast twice and lunch once and we were not disappointed. The food was prepared properly, the staff were friendly and the service exceptional.
I've read other reviews trashing this place because of unmatched coffee cups or receiving water in plastic cups...come on folks it's a diner not Morton's or Del Frisco's!
We highly suggest you eat here...some of the best food we had in wine country! -

Despite the wide-ranging reviews here (some great, some completely thumbs-down), my sister highly recommended the place, and of course it was on Triple-D (I try to hit every restaurant I can get to that's featured on the show). So we stopped here for dinner yesterday after a day of wine tasting. The group included my wife, mom, sister, and brother-in-law. A wide range of preferences and tastes...
Everyone loved it. The food was outstanding. The service was great too. Granted, it was a slow evening there, so I have not experienced the place at its busiest by any stretch. By definition, any restaurant featured on Triple-D is a "diner" and/or a "dive", but one that has something special, so a little quirkiness and perhaps an off day here and there when unusually busy should be expected and is worth taking the chance for awesome food.
The Brown Buttered Chicken was the most popular item that several of us had. Simple but amazing, very moist, flavorful, and buttery. I had the lasagna and loved it. It's a different preparation than I'm used to, but holds it's own. You'll see many ordering this. My brother-in-law had the smoked ribs. Unbelievable. We topped it off with the Heaven Cheesecake, and that was amazing too.
We will definitely be back. -

Breakfast is okay...The portions are big if you are hungry. But it's just an overpriced greasy spoon. The closer you get to Sonoma the more overpriced and mediocre the food becomes.
Schellville is the opening vortex to mediocrity. -

Ate at this place because I saw it featured on DDD. I almost didnt find the place but after driving around for awhile, I ended up in front of the place. So, needless to say, It had better be good after driving around frustrated.
It was worth it! I had the featured lasagne and my girlfirend had...I forget. Regardless, we were both very pleased. the food was fantastic. Lots of good things to choose from.
The staff were very nice and the owner was cool too, He's a funny guy. He thanked us as we left.
We will, without a doubt, be back again. -

Stopped in for dinner and had the ribs/tri tip and fresh local fish (rock cod tonight). The ribs were smoked to perfection and are the best I have had in northern CA. The fish was great and the ragu with kalamata olives, artichokes, sundried tomatoes and capers was fantastic.
This place is unpretentious. If you want a true local experience and eclectic cuisine this is the place to go! -

Review from David P.
A very low key breakfast and lunch spot serving up straight forward comfort food with a little twist. A very warm oasis in the haute taute-ness of Sonoma wine country.
My first visit was with the kids for brunch. The single waitress was very patient and understanding of all our special requests. Orders of pancakes, French toast and eggs, all came out great.
Return visits for lunch and (weekend only) dinners were very enjoyable. We stuck with the various sandwiches including tri-tip, pulled pork and Mexican chicken. First of all the fries are thinly cut and are to die for -- cooked just right. Just the right balance between straight forwardness and creativity.
Owner manages the small kitchen with a strong hand but regularly makes the rounds to greet customers sincerely hoping that everyone is enjoying themselves.
Single waitress tends to get overwhelmed when crowded always seems to recover and make it up to the patrons. Many of the patrons seem like regulars, so its a generally forgiving lot.
I'm glad that I didn't read about their 15 minutes of fame from their spot on Dinners, Drive-ins and Dives until after several visits. Their tri-tip sandwich showcased isn't that earth shattering distinctive. Nor is the ambiance of the place especially out of the ordinary. If you go in with those kinds of expectations, you're bound to be disappointed. -

This is my new go-to-breakfast place. I am already stuck in a food rut with this place. The chicken fried steak w/chipotle gravy is oh so good. The steak is not dunked in batter. Instead it is coated w/ a fine crumb crust. Deelish! Hash browns are fresh shaved, but needed a little salt/pepper.
I really must try to order something different. Maybe the Caneros Scamble next time. Hubby said it was really good. -

Like others we decided to explore the local DDD featured spot. Although the show featured lunch / dinner items, we stopped in for breakfast at about 10:30am.
The place was pretty quiet, I assume since it was a Monday and late morning. About 6 people, but one was a group of 5. As we ate another 6 people came in, I would think the early lunch crowd.
The Location: Cute little place, very homey and clean.
Service: The waitress was very friendly, so was the owner, not just to us, but to everyone that came in. There was only one waitress so I could see if the place got jumping that service would slow down. We did not have an overwhelming wait for our food at all.
Food: I had the frittata and my husband had the Mediterranean omelet. I thought both were full of flavor and the orange juice tasted fresh squeezed. I agree with other reviews, the hash browns were a bit too cooked for our taste. Portion sizes were descent, not too much, not too little. I thought it was cute how they served the homemade jam in canning jars. I would like to go back and try the featured dishes for lunch or dinner and judge for myself taste and service.
Overall: I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't overwhelmed.
Food for thought: In reference to the bad reviews.... I would assume when a little joint like this gets put on the map by a TV show it can be overwhelming for staff and owners with the new amount of people coming through their door. I am glad we didn't read the reviews first before we went, I had a much better experience. -

I went here several years ago to watch a friend of a friend play guitar. I didn't know what to expect music-wise or food-wise. With the "bar and grill" title, I envisioned tripping through a line of Harleys and listening to Blues (of course there's nothing wrong with motorcycles or BB King). Instead, I found a great Sonoma restaurant and listened to great jazz, Brian Nova style. If you like Joe Pass, you'd like his style.
After getting lost in Sonoma's darkness after a post-work drive from Sili-valley, I got there very late. In fact, the kitchen was closed. But guess what? The owner opened the small kitchen for me and cooked for me a nicely prepared sirloin, served with some of Sonoma's finest Merlot. I went to a semi-open area in the back, sat in table with people from the Jazz society, listened to fine musicianship, ate my meal and forgot about my drive up.
I hear that this restaurant is great for breakfast and lunch and only open for dinner over the weekend. I wouldn't know, because they opened the kitchen just for me and served me a great dinner.
Upon returning, the food is just as good. If you're in the area, drop by...great selections of fine Sonoma wine that goes well with a fine menu. Also, check to see if Brian is playing (http://briannova.com/c...). -

I've eaten here twice. It's not outstanding, but it does have some very eclectic flavors on the menu. It's worth trying. Don't have high expectations: it's a diner, with some upscale culinary touches. Matty, the chef/owner is a bawdy sort of guy, but one time I showed up in the evening when it was closed, and he let me in anyway, and took me into the kitchen to taste his freshly prepared, savory-herb-rubbed, smoked pork. INCREDIBLE. When he's not cranked up for business, he's very mild-mannered and approachable. He loves intense flavors, and his menu features many inventive things you won't find at the average "diner." The service is uneven and kind of rowdy so just be patient, and hang out.

Was super disappointed in this place.
Had a great feel walking in but then the food starts coming out and it's clearly all straight off a Sysco truck. No love at all . Bread was sad, pork was super salty and a fries were blah.
Tried it again one more time for brunch. Again, no love. The pancake was flat and rubbery. The syrup was log cabin or comparable. The french toast was super thin. Coffee was very average. Will not be going back.
If your a foodie and you love the amazing things that Sonoma has to offer, don't waste your time, this place does not represent that. -

Fantastic food for breakfast, lunch OR dinner. SG is VERY consistent with what they produce and it's always, ALWAYS delicious.
Matthew Nagan, the owner and master Chef, has put together a menu offering that will not only please anyone's taste buds, but offers unique culinary difference. The chicken fried steak, for example, is NOT the same ol' 1/2 plate slab of flour covered chop steak smothered with about 2 gallons of pasty, heavy chicken gravy. Far from it. Matthew has created a unique, crumb-like breading that is VERY light and tasty which is then lightly covered with a Mexican chorizo gravy. WOW!!!
Eggs are always perfect. Hash browns are always perfect.
The Ezio Granucci Tuscan Chicken absolutely BURSTS with flavors including rrosemary, lemon sage and kalamata olves. Superbly cooked through yet perfectly juicy.
I can go on forever. Ok, don't forget to try the tri-tip either!
Can' forget the desserts! The cheesecakes are out of this world. The coffee is delicious and world class.
If the is any criticism it's the service. There's simply not enough people to go around when it's busy. It really does take more than the owner, one waitree and one helper to handle the load. HIRE!
A humble setting which presents some of the finest foods in the area and considering the competition, that's neither an exaggeration or an easy accomplishyment. -

This just confirmed my view that Guy Fieri and other reviewers at HGTV are paid to say they like whatever is put in front of them, regardless of how it actually tastes.
It's a grill/diner. That's about what you should expect from it. Fieri makes it sound like the chef is some kind of culinary genius. No, he's a diner cook. The food is ok, nothing special. The wait time for menus was a little odd. Only about 1/2 dozen tables filled, but it took 10-15 minutes for the waitress to give us a menu. Fried fish fillet sandwich and ribs came out minutes after we ordered. Must have it sitting there and microwave the stuff. I have no objection to the food as standard, slightly sub-par diner food, but HGTV's got to get a grip. -

I used to go here when it was the old Lazy D cafe in the 60's and 70's but moved out of the area. Saw them featured on Diners, Drive In's and Dives (Guy is batting about 70% in our book) and decided to stop by on the way home.
Funky ambiance, not much different from way back in the day when it was a simple country cafe and so not the she-she look found in some wine country restaurants. Service was prompt, cheerful and she knew her menu.
I ordered the Buckaroo ( From the menu; "Grilled and marinated Mexican Achoté chicken heaped with grilled onions and mushrooms. Served on a French roll with Chipotle sauce".), was warned that it could be "wet" (and boy was it) and my wife had the Hot Matty's Smoked Tri-Tip Sandy ( From the menu; "Served hot with sauteed onions, mushrooms, garlic and cheddar cheese").
The food? In a word: Fantastic! In my wife's top 2 DD&D places and my top 3 for sure. A ton of flavor, served hot off the grill and large portions. My only suggestion would be that my sandwich needed to be on a hard crust french roll to better stand up to the juices as I ended up finishing it with a fork!
This will become a regular stop for us anytime we are in the area. -

We went to Schellville Grill because it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Total disappointment!!!!!!!
We arrived to a packed resturant, sat ourselves and waited for someone to hand us a menu. It was a rainy Sunday and the roof was leaking right where I was seated!!!!! OMG I should have ran out the door then.
We ordered the featured items on DDD; Tri-tip sandwich & Chicken sandwich. The tri-tip was full of bbq sauce and 5 slices of beef. The chicken was blah, no favor at all.
We basically ate and got the hell outta there. I don't understand what Guy was thinking...

prices ranged from 9.98 to 14.98 , I was surprised had many sandwiches there, BLT , Turkey, soup, potato salad, ( why not today ? ) I asked where is the regular menu with the low reasonable prices I asked ? she handed me the menu and said sorry I gave you the "mid day menu" with prices double as much as the regular menu ! If you go watch out for the shell game at Schellville grill, your bill will go from 11.95 tip included to over 22.00+ dollars

I see ribs on the menu and I'm like "SET!" I swear, if we didn't bring wine, I would have been pretty annoyed by the end of the century.. I mean meal.. Not only did our food take an unreasonably long amount of time to come out, but the ribs were cold. And they were the "Cooked then let cool then reheated to cool back down again' cold. I'm not always the fine eater and have no qualms about rolling up my sleeves when it comes to getting dirty. So I dove into the ribs and...
You know how you see that hot someone and you're like "OH man, I'm gonna totally make out with you and it's gonna be sooo freaking hot!" and then you get there and start kissing them and you're like, " Uh, what? This is so bogus. Not hot at all." Yeah. Bland, little too much cold sauce and just not excellence. I was really sad.
Looking around as we left, I noticed a lot of dishes were served rather poorly. I did hear another person mention that their food was not warm enough either. So, I would recommend they get the microwave or the old Peppermill heat lamps fixed or they go back to what they were doing right.
I hate to write a bad review. Really. Makes me want a Mylanta or something. They weren't mean or nothing, just slow slow service and not even diner quality was happening here. There was just a lot of lackadaisically and apathy that my MEH I THINKS BETTER is more the EKK METHINKS not, because right now I wouldn't go back at all. -

Just yesterday we did a day trip to taste and buy some wine in the Sonoma area.
Every time we go there, we're looking for a good place to stop for lunch.
Finally we found it. We searched in Yelp, and found Schellville Grill. It had good reviews, so we gave it a try. And... it was great! The food was healthy and tasty, the wines were great (we even ended buying some wine there ...) and the owner made us feel very welcome.
Good food, friendly owner - just what we hoped to find. We would defiantly go there on our next trip to Sonoma.
so... Highly recommended! -

Like so many others that have posted, we went to Schellville Grill because it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. And it was a total disappointment.
We got there for breakfast at about 11am on a Saturday, and this is what we ordered:
1. Wishin' I Was Fishin' (three eggs, three sausage patties, fresh-made hash browns and two golden hot cakes $11.95) - the only thing that tasted decent was the hot cakes. The sausage patties tasted like Jimmy Dean patties, which I have nothing against, but was nothing to write home about. And the hash browns were browned and crisp in places, but tasted lukewarm, like they had been cooked, left sitting and then reheated.
2. Chicken Fried Steak, (house-made fried steak with chipotle sausage gravy, three eggs, fresh-made hash browns and toast $11.50) - now I strayed from my basic egg breakfast since the idea of a chipotle sausage gravy sold me. Bad choice.
First off, I had to wait for my plate to arrive since I was told it took longer to cook the steak, so I watched my friend eat for a few minutes. When it did arrive, there was the smallest dollop of gravy on the top of the steak. (Feel free to check out the photo I took of it.) Not only was there barely any gravy, neither of us tasted anything remotely chipotle about it. It had a heavy rosemary flavor, and was chalky. 5 minutes into the meal, the waitress brought out a side of gravy, in case I wanted more.
Other than being really disappointed with the breakfast choices, I have to point out a few small things that bother me personally.
1. They served water in those thin disposable plastic cups. Really? I know its only water, but if I'm sitting down to a meal, I'd love a solid cup or glass.
2. Coffee was super weak. Denny's has better coffee.
3. When you sit out on the patio, silverware is all shoved in a plastic basket, and you help yourself. Didn't note how it was with indoor dining.
4. Restrooms. When you only have one restroom, please keep it clean. I'll leave it at that.
So, IF i ever go back, it won't be for breakfast. But first impressions are everything. And I doubt that the Schellville Grill and I will make it to a second date. Especially when there are so many other dates I could go on, with a shorter commute.
