Love, love, love this hardware store.  Always well stocked, clean, and excellent customer service with fair prices.  I have gotten so many tips and reliable advice from these guys.  I can't say enough good things about Schauer Hardware.

I love this store.  It's so much better than Lowe's and Home Depot.  The staff is extremely helpful and they have everything I need.  Plus, it's five minutes from my house and there's good parking in the back.

I had a slow drain in my tub and they helped me find the right product (which worked WONDERS - white bottle, red and black lettering), and gave me some pointers on plunging a tub.  Not only that, if I call to see if they have a product in stock they don't mind looking and telling me the price.  They never make me feel like I'm a bother.

I would rather have diarrhea than ever go to a big box hardware store again, and I feel great about supporting a neighborhood store.

P.S.:  If they offer you popcorn, say yes.  OMG, so yummy.

I would just like to say I have had about a half dozen keys made here (this is a conservative estimate) and I have never yet had a problem with any key made at Schauer's.  I also know if I did have a problem, Rich and crew would take care of it immediately.

Support the local stores, not the big bucks, big box, small customer service chains.

Nice place, and they have all the hard to find screws, nuts, and connectors you can't find in a big store. I'ts kind of fun just to look around on the shelves. They also fix windows and screens.

This place is really great and the staff have always gone above and beyond to assist me.

I mainly come her to get keys made which they can do in just minutes and for a very small fee. I also came her to get a custom piece of wood cut to fill a hole in my floor. Neither Home Depot or Menards were able or willing to help me but the guys at Schauers did!!!

Really cannot say enough great things about this place; they have all the items you would expect a hardware store to have as well as ample parking in the back.

Lets keep on supporting this local business!!!

I am glad that this store is in Forest Park. It has the old fashioned charm and service that you only see in classic movies, but don't expect in the days of big-boxes.

Its not a "home improvement warehouse" but I have found every tool, nut, bolt, washer, power adapter, light bulb, cleaner, mop, and paint roller I have ever needed. Not to mention how great it is to have a key made so quickly. I have had many keys made and all of them are as good as the original. I wish I could say the same for other shops.

The staff is always quick, attentive and helpful.

Prices are the same as a Lowe's or Home Depot on pretty much everything it seems. So if you need something simple, you don't need to deal with a teenager in an apron. This shop is great.

I like going into a hardware store where the employees are knowledgeable. They really seem to know their stuff. Much better than the big chains. Great customer service and fair prices.

Yes I shop at this place! For many reasons:
They are great, they are friendly, they are Independent, they have lots of merchandise, they have great prices, they have a knowledgeable staff, they even have sassy counter ladies.
Everything I want in a hardware store and more.
Also, can anyone say anything good about Home Depot/Lowes these days? I didn't think so.

Every once in a while I find myself taking on a handyman project way above my level, meaning anything involving tools, and thank goodness I only live a block from Peaslee's. (I guess it's technically Schauer's now.)

On one occasion,  I naively tried to move a closet thingy I had bought at Ikea.  (Ikea does not make the highest quality items and they don't move well.)  I broke some rod that holds the whole contraption together, and it turns out it was a metric rod.  Home Depot didn't carry it, but I bumped into a local handyman there and he said to go to Peaslee's (which I should've done all along).  They were temporarily out, but a super nice employee somehow wittled the broken rod and made it so it would work.  Free of charge.

They carry crazy obscure stuff and are super helpful  Don't bother with the big box when there's a neighborhood gem like this around the corner.

I love places I can bring my dog and they have a treat for him!  In case you don't know, you can get keys copied here and they do it pretty fast and cheap.

I've been coming to this store for years back when it was a Peaslee's Ace Hardware. Many of the staff have been here for years and have always been helpful and friendly. The store is also clean and well organized too.

Since my dad is about as handy as Tim "the toolman" Taylor I get wrangled into doing a lot of fix-it projects for my parents. I like this place because they put the customer first. Being a woman in a hardware store you can sometimes feel like you're not taken seriously, clueless or get talked into buying the most expensive option, but I've never felt that way here. If they don't carry something they're the first to suggest a place you can find it.

Its name was recently changed to Schauer's Hardware, tho' it still looks and feels like the Ace it once was.

The inside is fairly clean and organized. Their employees are helpful and knowledgeable about other local businesses, and they've always been happy to point me to the right direction (without fail!) when they couldn't provide the service or didn't carry the products I was looking for.

For example, they're the one who told me about Tayloe Glass (one of my first reviews!) when I needed my broken window repaired.

Free parking at the back of the store. And they're open on Sunday!

Best Hometown old school hardware store. I love these guys (and girls). Great Customer service, they always ask you if you need help finding something. The most important part is they always seem to have what I need. Unlike Home Depots and Menards which never seem to have the odd ball part or piece or doohickey that I need to fix something in my 100+ year old house. Try em out if you haven't yet.

Went here relatively early yesterday morning as the bathtub had a clog. I'd already poured two bottles of Liquid Plumber down it, and saw no visible improvement.
Visited Schauer and told one of the fellows what I was looking for. Rather than immediately trying to sell me something, he asked a series of questions (standing water or no, what type of drain, how long does it take for the water to back up once the water's turned on). You know, to see if he could figure out where the clog was at and what I'd need. Once I answered his questions, he said I'd probably need to have the drain snaked. As I rent, and given how old the building is, he suggested calling the landlord to do it. I did buy a bottle of a different type of drain cleaner as a last resort. Working nights means I sleep days, meaning that my sleep would be interrupted when the landlord comes out to fix something.
Anyway, I get home, pour some of the stuff down the drain, then put hot water down 20 minutes later and q'apla! The drain had cleared.
I go here pretty much any time I have some project to work on and need help. Easily worth the trip and the time.

A true customer service store.  I love these folks.
The best experience you could hope to have in a hardware store.
They help in ways no one else does.  The place has been there
forever for a reason.  They are truly savoirs to so many folks.
People go there from all around.  They give dogs treats and chat with you.
I've gotten everything there from a dishwasher part to a bday gift for my mom.  Do It Best should be glad to have them as a part of their "family".

Do you need hardware?  Do you like the show Night Court?  Then you should go to Schauer Hardware, because the employees there are funny like the cast of Night Court and they will help you find the hardware that you need.  You'll never want to wait for an hour to find an employee at Home Depot again!

GREAT hardware store! I was only in there for a few moments before someone came up to me and asked if I needed help. The staff was quite helpful, and the pricing was comparable to other hardware stores.

I love this hardware store. I always shop here FIRST! They have tons of things I need and even things I don't like a (flowery screw driver) but that is why it is so great. I love the staff and the funny owner and dad are just a laugh and a half! There is also a big moose head in the back and the kids love that! Shop local, it supports real families not corporate.

As a contractor, I am soooo sick of having to go to "the Depot".  This local community hardware is a breath of fresh air.
