Hip has found it's way to Southern Maryland kids...and it looks like a blonde bombshell with pink bangs.
I followed the previous reviewer's advice in search of a hipper look with less Southern Fried hair to Ami @ Scalped. I love my former stylist...but we were in a rut and I kept looking more and more like a soccer-mom-slipping-out-of-milfdom than the punky hardass artist I am.
But Ami fixed all that. And in gorgeous surroundings. I told her what I wanted...and what I DIDN'T want and she gave me what I asked for. Actually, I wasn't really sure she gave me what I asked for...until I worked with myself. Voila! Hair I can STYLE MYSELF!!!! It really was low key. It really was punky. It's perfect!
The salon itself is a great mix of circus, class, style, and self indulgence. I'm looking forward to the day when I win the lottery and can spend a day in the sumptuous spa that rivals anything created here in the District. Kristie, shampoo goddlette and counter lovely, gave me a tour and I knew this was a good choice. Ami...scissor wielder extraordinaire, is a fantastic conversationalist, talented photographer, and all round ball of fire...was just the person I was looking for.
Damn, I love my hair! -

I've been going to Scalped since they were in Upper Marlboro (now in Prince Frederick) and I love them for the most past. Kathleen (hair) is great although difficult to get an appointment with. She (as do all of the stylists at Scalped) don't just jump into cutting/color but they spend time finding out what you are looking for before start. Kathleen also did my hair/make-up (well they did the whole wedding party) for my wedding last year and everything was great.
I also love Erin (facials and waxing) and Michelle (nails) they are both great and again take time to help you achieve the look/result you want.
The salon itself is set-up nicely, spacious and always clean. I've referred many people over the years without hesitation, a great salon in Calvert County.Listed in: Local Favorites, Nuptial Bliss

I was the victim of a bad relationship. My old salon B*bb**s had canceled an appointment that I desperately needed because I was stuck in traffic---even after calling ahead of time and explaining that I was stuck in traffic and that I had a "hair emergency"--no dice. This after getting way too expensive colors and cuts that never held shape or color I was ready for a new salon.
From my memory came Scalped---a salon with a name and a logo that takes MOXIE to proudly sport. I had driven by the salon a few times and a few people had mentioned it. I decided to give it a try.
I called and explained my hair emergency. Chris the salon coordinator soothed me, commiserated with me and did everything she could to fit me in---in fact she found me a spot 30 minutes after I called!
I was booked with Ami. She looked like Gwen Stefani with white-blonde 40's pin-up hair---bangs dyed hot pink. She had sparkle eyeshadow, punk rock miniskirt, a sequin belt and a warm charming personality. I had an immediate fashion crush! I was gone! She could have shaved my head and I would have loved it. But she didn't---she took my fine, frizzy in the morning, limp in the evening, over-processed hair and tamed it into a symphony of layers. She gave me a cut that lasted past the stylist's chair, after the first wash and HECK up to 4 months later!!! (Which was important because at the time I was on a student's budget so I needed my cuts to hold their shape for a few months.)
Since then--she's kept my look fresh. I've gone from short layers to long, highlighted to natural and back again. With each cut and color Ami has done a superb job taking my styling habits into account and never giving me a cut I couldn't handle--all the while--looking quite stylish herself. Being someone I could look to for style inspiration and bravery to push my style envelope! (Sorry but there is NOTHING worse than going to a stylist with a bad cut or an outdated look---I want inspiration when I walk into a salon!)
But aside from great cuts---I NEVER had that "hapless fashion victim at a make-up counter being over-sold cosmetics I don't need" feeling from this salon. I got a gift bag on my first visit full of hair goodies to try...but since then I've not been goaded into buying unnecessary products. I've never been made to feel as if I was an ugly duckling no matter what condition I was in when I walked into the salon--and usually I walk in looking as ugly as a potato pulled fresh from the dirt!
When my husband decided to cut his super-long hair and go for super short business man chic--after years of no salon exposure they soothed his nerves and eased his transition. He now swears by Margaret, the salon owner, to cut his hair.
Aside from our cut experience with Margaret and Ami---each and every stylist at Scalped is friendly and personable. I've yet to see someone walk out with a bad cut.
With:
* new posh and creatively stylish yet comfortable digs,
*the prettiest salon restroom in all of Maryland,
*wine and refreshments offered and
*lots of pretty girl accessories to look at while my foils are in
going to Scalped makes me feel pampered without hating myself in the morning.
Love this Salon! Love my Stylist! -

I can't say enough bout this place.. I'm so excited about my new find.. I'm have just moved to the area and I've been neglecting my hair because I'm really picky, and like funky and fresh places that don't scream cheap cuts that all look like some chain.
The reception area and retail area is very nice and warm it makes you feel very welcome and they even offer beverages while you wait.
The spa and massage area are quiet and offer so many services and packages you could spend the entire day there and you won't mind.
I followed the advise off the previous reviewers and went to Ami, she was awesome. She made very great suggestions and really helped make suggestions without making me look crazy. as I have listened to stylist in the past.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful.. I would recommend this salon to anyone.
