The thing I enjoyed most about my lunch at Scalini Fedeli was the beauty of the restaurant. It had an old Italian feel. I tried the hamachi appetizer which I didn't love in part b/c there were capers in it and I don't like capers on my fish and in part b/c I didn't think the fish was that great. I then had the scallops wrapped in pancetta for the entree which was ok. The scallops were beautiful but over seasoned. There was too much pancetta on them and way too much pepper. Don't miss the desserts. I tried one of everything and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Went here a while back and I can honestly say that I was not impressed. We were seated quickly but after sitting down we had to all but tackle a waiter to get service. I am not talking about the they leave you alone kind of way. In the remind them 3 times to bring you a wine menu. This led to the whole meal being mis-timed - wine came after the first course.. time between courses was off and overall the whole meal was way longer than it needed to be - so much so that they were actually cleaning up the place (I am talking about flipping chairs up on the other tables while were were still there). The grand finale was that I had to wake up the coat check girl (she was sleeping on the floor) to get our coats.
The only thing that gets it to two starts was the first course was amazing.. i can only imagine how much i would have enjoyed it had the wine come on time.

BEST Italian in NYC. All I have to say is WOW. This tops L'impero, a feat I never thought possible. Options are: one primi piatti and one piatti di mezzo for $65 or the 5 course tasting menu for $90. Specials of the day included an arugula salad, a pasta with artichoke and pancetta, etc. We opted for the Regional Tasting Menu. We were told the 'regular' $65 prix fixe portions were about double the portion size, since you do only get two dishes with your meal. Service was great, inobtrusive yet very helpful and friendly.
Here is the order in which we were served our dishes:
- pappardelle in a game sauce with venison and hare finished with barolo wine and bitter chocolate - they allowed us to substitute the mushroom ravioli with a different pasta - the meat was almost grounded into a fine paste, yet was so complex and flavorful
- hamachi 'yellowtail' w/ marinated fennel, avocado, grapefruit and provencal vinaigrette - served kind of 'tataki' style, very tender and fresh - delicious!
- seared fois gras and roasted apples over braised spinach and toasted hazelnuts drizzled w/ port wine - perfectly seared, pink on the inside, a tiny 'bite' when you eat into it
- pan seared salmon - perfectly cooked, a tad raw in the middle, melt in your mouth goodness
- braised short ribs of beef with a cherry pepper and natural glaze, fennel-apple puree - i'm a sucker for any type of reduction sauce/glaze with my meats, very tender
- (free) - marscapone sorbet with strawberry couli - so refreshing, definitely cleansed the palate - tasted like lychee
- bittersweet chocolate cake - served warm with pistachio sorbet over filo cake
- (free) - huge long stem strawberries with sabayon
Must get: Fois gras...best I've had in the US

A thoughtful menu executed well by terrific cooks, impeccably correct but friendly service, and pleasant surroundings make this TriBeCa restaurant a must for romantic dinners or special guests; the $60 prix fixe (or $90 tasting menu) coupled with a reasonably priced wine list means that you don't have to break the bank to dine well, though if you like good wine you could easily drop $300 (or more) here on dinner for two.
The cuisine announces itself as 'modern Italian/French,' but both the menu and the wine list lean heavily towards the Italian side.
Had risotto and gnocchi for the first course; they were delightful. Fish dishes as second courses are especially good; on a recent visit, the scallops and the wild striped bass were both terrific.
If there's a weak link on the menu, the desserts were a trifle too sweet for our tastes; we'll order the cheese course next time instead.

Just had an amazing date night here with my wife. The food was some of the best northern Italian I've had in a long time. Great beef short-rib for me and a real nice scallop dish for her. From the minute we walked in the place, the service was awesome. We were a little early and could have sat down right away, but the maitre'd showed us the seating chart and showed us a better table if we waited 10 minutes (still early for our reservation). Throughout the meal, the waiters provided the right level of service - always around when we needed them, but not hanging on us.
I'd go back in a second.

After several amazing winter dinners here over the years, I have to take a few points off for their disregard for the seasons. We went last summer only to be met with the same hearty, braised, heavy dinner choices. But I give it very high marks for the colder months. Sometimes they go a little overboard with the portion size and the ingredient list. For example, does papardelle need a game sauce with venison and hare with barolo and bitter chocolate? That is at least three separate animals and two additional flavors of chocolate and wine. The service is formal but not exceedingly stiff and the atmosphere is comfortable with ample space between tables. The crowd is old but not annoying.
Dig the hip neighborhood and interesting French/Italian fusion menu. Beautiful vaulted ceiling, classic furnishing, spot on mood lighting, amazing service, delicious, large portions. From the first bite of the amuse bouche until dessert, the kitchen brings items out for you to sample. You're eating continuously, but with variety.
Great place to bring the in laws. Yummy rich desserts.
Solid perfection.

Very upper-crust bourgeois atmosphere but the food and service are both outstanding. Your best option is really to go for the prix fixe option, you'll get the most bang for your buck. Your other best option is really an expense account, or sugar daddy. The panna cotta dessert is terrific btw.

Looks like an old bank building, big walls, plenty of seating, slightly romantic but better for parties. Private party room downstairs and antiqued loos. 3 bottles of Barolo Monprivato Mascarello Giuseppe, 1991 and then the Pork tenderloin and scallop primi addition...... ABSOLUTE HEAVEN. John the Maitre de is a GREAT guy too!

i was taken here on my birthday recently, and it was a great place. while it's clearly against the tide for a jersey restaurant to make an outpost in manhattan, this one deserves it. the food was great (my veal chop was fantastic), although my review for 4 stars got bumped up with a combination of a bottle of tignaello and great company.
