5 reviews for Saxby's Coffee
Saxby's chumps Starbucks anyday.
1. They play awesome music. It's like they know exactly what I song I want to listen to every time I come in. One of the reasons why I decide to stick around and sit down to drink my coffee is to listen to their playlist.
2. They don't have ridiculously long lines like the TECH center Starbucks. I don't understand why people wait so long there when usually at Saxby's I can just walk right up and order.
3. I feel like the staff is just a lot cooler, like you have to audition to work here. Must be the reason why the music is so much cooler.
4. They have good coffee, tons of different drinks (if you're into that whole candy bar flavored drink thing)
5. I like to take advantage of their outside seating and people watch on Liacouras.
TRFs I always walk by this place but never tried, except one friday on a whim i wanted to try their FROYO because i saw the advertisement here & at the liberty place.
I asked the girl how much was a small ? she just rang me up instead. Asked me what I wanted for my topping I said toffee, then she asked me if I wanted plain or chocolate and i said plain. Couple seconds later i got this small ass cup with short-standing froyo and skimped topping.. and to top it off, the froyo was extremely sour and already melting when i had just got it.
Saxby's is a coffee chain and it's a bit unfair that i'm rating them on their new promo froyo but regardless.. so that cost me $4.32 ? I definitely would have been better off at Phileo even though it's self serve but I still would have gotten more than what I got at Saxby's and for the same price.
Having spent a lot of time on Temple's campus as of late, I have grown a tolerance for Saxby's.
I scoff at chains for the most part, but the coffee is always strong and flavorful. The baristas are surprisingly friendly for dealing with a lot of annoying college students, and seem to know a lot the drinks they are making - quite rare for a chain.
It's nothing particularly special, but it will do. Still way better than Starbucks.
Here's why I go to Saxby's instead of Starbucks when I'm on campus:
* They don't have an enormous pitcher of steamed milk that's been sitting out for god knows how long. If you've ever been a barista, you know that this is really gross. They will actually steam milk JUST for your drink or for yours and the person before/after you.
* No enormous lines out the door like at the TECH Center.
* A little more tranquil if you're looking for a place to work.
* Drip coffee that doesn't taste like it's been sitting on a burner for 4 hours.
Just as overpriced as Starbucks, just as much of a chain, but they've got a better tasting product.
I spend every day on Temple's campus, yet I don't hit up Saxby's enough. (There are cheaper coffee options on campus...) But when I do, it's always a welcome treat. Even though they're Not Starbucks, you'd think otherwise since the decor et al apes that other chain.
