Great paved running trail with scenery and mile markers. Better for walking/running than biking.
You can start at the North Gate (Trousdale & Hwy 280) or South Gate (Skyline/Hwy 92 & Hwy 280). The south side is a little more flat and runs along the reservoir while the north provides challenging hills through beautiful trees.
My favorite thing about this trail is that I can decide whether I want to run a few miles or the full 12. It has mile markers and bathrooms along the way. Although it can get chilly, the weather is almost always perfect, even on foggy days. I love the fresh, brisk air on Saturday AM.
The secluded path provides protection for kids learning how to ride bikes or older folks who prefer a liesurely stroll. Trail traffic is moderate between the first 2 miles at the South side, but after that, it's very light.
Recommended for runners working to increase their total milage.

I can agree more with Jen, you gotta get yourself out to the 2.5 to 4 mile markers, get away from those strollers.
If its either a 2-3 mile run, or a nice 12 mile walk, I love walking sawyer, but I like the san mateo end better than the san bruno side. And the horrible in between dirt trail that connects san bruno to millbrae, ehhhh.
Still a great trail and they always keep up with it, but there are so many damn flis hovering around you when you walk.
I had a 5 star day at Sawyer Camp Trail, and since most of my days there have also been 5 star, I give it 5 stars.
Today I rode my brand new bike the length of the trail and back. I passed by most of the walkers and joggers by mile 2.5, so from then on it was just the occasional serious runner or other cyclists. In addition to the always spectacular lake, I saw a very long snake crossing the paved part of the trail, and later several deer. Small birds with splashes of red flitted off the side of the trail, and a pair of (I think) hawks rode the winds aloft.
The early part of the trail is mostly open to the sun, and then around mile 1, the trees begin to take over, so it is sun then shade, sun then shade. After mile 3, the trees totally win, and they spread their moss covered branches over the trail so it basically feels like you are in a giant mossy tunnel. Or a small tree cathedral. Then at the end, you climb a slight hill and come back out into the open sunlight and the lake. Then, turn around, and (if you are on a bike), whiz back down the small hill and enjoy the scenery and wildlife in reverse.
I previously used the trail for running, and what I loved about it were the super helpful mile markers. Being able to pace myself by the .5 mile was great.
Love this multi-use trail!

A great place for a quick escape from the city. The paved path runs along a beautiful reservoir and is surrounded by trees and singing birds. Walkers, runners, bikers, rollerbladers, and baby strollers can all be found here. The trail is 6 miles long and can often times be a bit overcrowded (the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me). But it's an artificial lake!
Yes, but it's pretty. It's not that real Yosemite-way, but it's water. Water is pretty.
Asphalt and flat topography makes it popular with families and walkers. Fast runners, serious bikers beware.

If you get past mile 3 or so, there are even prettier trees, and it gets less crowded... a huge plus if you hate having to get past strollers and little kids on bikes that don't know the right-of-way rule yet.

Nice trail, beautiful view!!!. Although crowed at times, I have never found it to be over crowded. Personally, i like it when I see all types of people jogging, bikng, walking, etc.
This is the best ever if you prefer paved vs. dirt . Also there are no doggie doo doos here. It's clean and the air you breathe in is a lot better than car exhausts on the street. From time to time you'll encounter wild deers and rattle snakes. But if you are a real serious fitness person I think hitting the treadmill at home or at the gym is a better choice for you.
