Review Highlights
My thai afficianado mom and I tried this place one day. We were both very satisfied.
I got the red curry with duck and I was very very happy. The curry was perfectly spiced and not too heavy.
Definately recommend (even though its a little out of my Dallas bubble)!
I tried this place out on a trip to Richardson, and I was really happy with it. I went early on a Saturday night, and the service was prompt.
I ordered the green curry with tofu, and it was very good. The sauce was perfectly spicy, and I liked that they didn't skimp on the coconut milk. My husband ordered the fried rice with tofu, which was also good.
Our server was very attentive to how spicy we'd like our dishes, and when we weren't sure, she brought out some extra condiments just in case.
If you're like me and you prefer to patronize small ethnic places, I'd definitely check out Sawadika Thai. It's a nice change from the chain overload of Richardson. It's not the best Thai I've ever had, but it's certainly better than eating at Panera or whatever.
Finally made it here for dinner last Friday night. It's garnered good reviews here, and my brother raves about it for lunch.
Maybe the mistake I made was trying it for dinner. Pretty dead. Service definitely wanting. And every dish was way below average. The broth of my tom kha noodle soup was thick and greasy- never thought coconut-anything could ever turn my stomach, but it did. The butterfly shrimp app-- straight out of the frozen section from Sam's. My sister's pad see-ew was basically sitting in a puddle of watery gravy.
Could be persuaded to try it for lunch someday, but otherwise, not planning a return visit.
I ate there two night ago. my husband order the lamb chop curry, it tasted so good that I want to order too but too bad I order a Thai fried rice with tofu that I couldn't even finish my own. They have a special as combo that $12.99 you can pick few item on their menu. The meal includes your choice soup or salad, and dessert. They have descent food there. I will go back there soon.
my cousins raved about this place and the hyped was not what it was. maybe it was because they hyped up the pad see ew and i didnt get it. i guess i can give it another try and get the pad see ew. i was not too happy with the pad thai i got. but it was a lot more flavorful than most of the other thai places i've been to in the Dallas/N. Dallas area. i do like their big chunks of tofu in the pad thai. definitely a good yummy thing! :)
This Thai restaurant is close to my office, so I make it here every once in a while. I've eaten at at least a half dozen Thai restaurants in the Metroplex and think this is one of the better ones. It's a bit more upscale than other good ones I've tried, which can be a bonus.
The service (for lunch, at least) is very fast with food arriving just a few minutes after it's ordered. The food is consistent and very good with decent sized portions. It's not on the cheap end of the Thai spectrum, but isn't expensive; you get what you pay for and entrees are mostly under $10 (for lunch).
I grabbed lunch here one time when I used to work in Richardson and it was "alright" and worst of all it was like 9 bucks for the entree alone. To me that's a dinner price given a lunch sized portion.
I got my favorite noodle dish, the pad see iew. The taste was right but there seemed to be way more noodles then meat and broccoli. I also had a thai coffee and it was good but served with a lot of ice in a small glass.
What I do commend is their decor, the lighting is very dark and so is their furniture. It seemed like a chill spot to have some drinks after a long day and they had reasonable music playing but I can only imagine how much their cocktails are after paying for their food!
I like this place. It's right by the office, and it's a break from the norm. It's trendy, it's fast. Consistently!
I order from the lunch menu, always #12. Spicy flat noodles with chicken and basil; I forget the formal name. But it's down right tasty.
I brought the girls from work, they liked it, too. Keep in mind, they can handle spicy!
Go, and enjoy!
This is an excellent lunch getaway spot. Great food, atmosphere, and service. Nothing is over spectacular about this place but it definitely breaks out of my normal lunch places during the week. It's always nice to have a sit-down, stress free, calm atmosphere without taking too much time out of your workday at a great price.
I always test out new Thai restaurants with their pad thai and branch out from there. Their pad thai was good, nothing fancy, but I definitely enjoyed it more once I made sure to order it spicy the next time. I absolutely fell in love with the pad kee mow (#12). It's spicy flat noodles with chicken, basil, tomatoes, and bell pepper. Doesn't sound like anything special, but it is absolute bliss in your mouth. It's almost too good to be true and I feel like it is made better every time I order it.
Their modern decor, dim lights, and fast service makes Sawadika the perfect lunch getaway joint to clear your head from the hectic work week.
Very fresh and tasty shrimp, salmon very good too. Wife loves the red curry. Great friendly service, and cozy atmosphere. We take out frequently, nice generous portions
Nice atmosphere, very pretty dark wood furniture and walls. Waitstaff was very friendly. The food was fine. Pretty ok.
I was just really overwhelmed at the price. Lunch specials starting at $8 was too expensive for me.
The "special" comes with soup...kind of like an egg drop soup with some veggies and tofu + corn starch. I could have done without all the corn starch, I'm not eating at a cheap Americanized Chinese food place.
For my meal I had the yellow curry, lots of chicken and potato in a surprisingly small bowl. Surprising due to the price, but good for a lunch sized serving.
All in all the food was good, but too expensive so I won't go back unless someone else wants to pay!
Must admit, I found this place using the Infamous: ENTERTAINMENT BOOK! (yeap, buy one entree, get one free).
For $15, you get "coupons" for HUNDREDS of restaurants in Dallas.
Anyways, the place is super clean, the staff is super nice.
Wife and I shared a thai beer (good stuff), shared pad-thai w/ tofu and tilapia with curry sauce. Even though it sounds very simple, it's the simple dishes that help me "judge" a restaurant.
The place is small, but not tiny. The bathrooms were good and they do accept American Express!
Try the special of the day and one safe dish!
My third visit here, so I think I can say it has been consistent and pretty good. Took someone there today who had not been before, and she liked it too. Clean, great service, and good food. No complaints from me, and I will certainly go back. As a bonus, it is close to the office! I must say the service is fast too, so if you are in a hurry it is a great way to get a good sit down meal without killing an hour or more.
Went here with Joe and Fran about a few weeks ago and it was just okay for me.
The inside is nice and so is the bathroom. (clean bathroom is critical for me)
I had the Pad Thai and it was just okay. It tasted too "Americanized" and they also put in fried bead curd pieces in mine and I didn't like it.
Yeah, and it was a bit pricey for lunch. I mean I don't mind paying more, but it better be great, and it wasn't.
I'll just try another place if I'm looking for Thai in the Richardson area.
I guess I will rate this place right in between Thi and Frank.
There is a full bar with seating for around 6 people. The interior space is fairly attractive and comfortable. I've only had lunch here so I can't comment on the dinner menu.
There are reasonably priced lunches though some venture above $10 which is a bit high. Lunch includes a simple soup. Egg roll (fried) costs $1 extra. On my visits spiciness has been a little less than I requested but acceptable. Food/ingredients seem fresh and presentation on plates is good. Thai flavors really come out in the dishes I've had (unlike the pseudo-chinese food at some Thai restaurants). Cloth napkins even at lunch which is a plus, and they're not white which is even better. Service is quick and friendly.
I suspect if I came for dinner, where I would be having some of the more unusual menu items and speed of service was less important, that the food quality would be more in the 3 star category. Since this is close to my office and not near my home I'll probably never venture here for dinner...
N.B. They have a web site so I've add that to the profile. I'm surprised they were able to get the domain name (sawadika!).
My friends and I frequent this place whenever we are in the mood for Thai food and it has fulfilled our craving pretty well.
I have had the peanut noodle and it was pretty good; a bit greasy after bringing it home, but the peanut flavor is sweet and pleasing.
I've also had their "chicken salad" during lunch and it is nothing like an American chicken salad; it was literally lettuce lightly dressed with vinegar with a generous serving of chicken on top and a peanut dressing on the side. It was pretty good for what it was, but I wouldn't order it again.
I've had a chicken curry, as well, and the sweetness matched with the spiciness was good, in addition to the peanuts that were in it. I love the use of peanuts in Asian cooking and Sawadika includes them in a good amount of their dishes. The serving sizes were all good and you get your money's worth as far as quantity, I think.
The only complaint I have is the tofu they use for their dishes is very stiff and dry; I've had fresh tofu that is made at small Vietnamese shops and it is much better than the kind used here.
The service is pretty good and the people are friendly, in general. The prices are a bit steep, but it is a good treat once in a while.
Well, I'm sitting here next to a carton of delicious, left-over Volcano Chicken, so it's hard to be too rough on the place. =)
The restaurant itself is very nice; urban, modern asian design; largely dark, with splashes of bright color in abstract art pieces. The restaurant is small but hardly cramped. Certainly nice enough for a date location.
I've enjoyed all of the dishes I've had here; I'd say they were good (but not great). The presentation is good, the portions are plentiful, and the flavors are compelling. They do a good job of making dishes have a distinctive flavor, with a fair quantity of black pepper, basil, or peanut sauce.
The prices are rather high. The volcano chicken--touted as a lunch special--runs about $10, though in all fairness that is one of the pricier items. The full bar is a plus. I've only been to SaWaDiKa during lunch hours and I'm still curious about exploring it in the evening.
Staff is kind, place seems clean, and their chopsticks are cool. ;-)
SawaDika is a nicely run restaurant with good service and decent food. Thai has become so ubiquitous in Dallas that it is hard for a Thai restaurant to stand out these days. That's part of the reason that I only gave SD four stars.
Their staff is very friendly though, and I don't think I've ever had anything but a pleasant experience.
Also, their Thai tea is especially good -- I recommend it if you like milk-based teas.
Also, SD suffers from the same problem that plagues other restaurants in this shopping center -- poor parking.
I wasn't as satisfied as the other reviewers. I'll try it again next time.
The spiciness was authentic, however, my flat noodle was stuck together in large chunks and did not come apart like noodles. I'm also not a fan of big chunks of iceberg lettuce. I didn't feel as if it was worth $9.
I think for now I'll stick with Thai Corner.
They have decent food, but its a little more expensive than most Thai places. The interior is really nice, and the service is always really good. My favorite here is the panang curry. They have lunch specials that are reasonable, but dinner is a little more pricey.
This Thai restaurant inherited a space formerly occupied by a sushi restaurant which outgrew the place. The elegant dark interior of black and wood colors made a nice impression as we sat down. All the usual Thai stuff nicely prepared. I had Basil Beef, which I had at a Vietnamese restaurant once before. Main difference is that as Thai food it's spicier.
