*** Thanks Yelpers for your thoughts! ***

4 Stars for their chicken... simply fried chicken... without batter.

My girlfriends and I came here for dinner. One of them thought we were having soul food because of the name. Lols... I told her it was the actual name of the restaurant.

Anyhow, the food came out the way you seem them on Yelp. I ordered the half chicken with lumpias for $6.99. What a deal. It also comes with a side of rice and gravy. The chicken's skin was crispy and tasteful. The chicken's meat was tender, juicy, and yummy!!! It's almost like home fried chicken without the mess. I didn't try the gravy but I dipped the chicken meat with the chilli sweat and sour sauce. Not too much. The lumpia was ok, but I like the chicken a lot more.

The atmosphere is very casual, simple, and... simple. It looks like one of those places you order and pick up. The service was cool. The lady was nice.

The location is a little bit difficult to find. It's right behind Walgreens on the drive thru for the pick up for the pharmacy side.

I'll definitely come back here to order fried chicken for dinner...

P.S. ~ Don't you just love cheap eats???? =)

Don't like the food here. The chicken taste awful. I don't know why they marinated the chicken, the taste is crap. Wish they just fry the fricking chicken. Not only the chicken taste awful but the fried rice is yuck too. How can they do wrong on the fried rice.

I would never go this place again. Only one thing it is nice the service.

"3 1/2 stars"

I pretty much agree with Chona S.  I even happened to order that same item...a #3 - half a fried chicken, fried rice and lumpia.

The food was good but not outstanding.  To me it seemed that they just dropped the chicken in the deep fryer...no batter, no seasoning.   The chicken though, was tender, hot and juicy.  The rice, too, seemed to lack seasoning...but that was remedied by adding a bit of soy sauce.

If you live near this place, it certainly is worth a visit, but not worth driving any distance for.  The place was clean and comfortable, the girl at the counter was patient with me since it was my first visit.  The food was served within 5 minutes and was hot.  They have the normal sauces available, sweet and sour, spicy and soy.  One grip is that the soda is in cans... I am not a fan of canned soda in a restaurant.  Gets pretty expensive if you want a 'refill'! ;)   I purchased a second soda.
I also had a side of the won ton soup with dinner...and that was very good.
I was still hungry after I finished my meal (imagine that!)...since I had not eaten all day.  I ordered a side of 10 additional lumpia.  Now, before you think I overate, let me say that the lumpia are about the side of my little finger.  But they are good.

Worth a visit... I would go back if I was in the area or lived nearby.
The food is certainly worth the price...a great value!

I arrived at the restaurant at 6 pm only to find that the fried chicken was out!! My friend and I had to settle without fried chicken even though she was really looking forward to it. We got the chicken adobo, pancit and lumpia. The chicken adobo was really good and the lumpia was as well. The pancit w could be a little bit more flavorful.
I would come back to try their fried chicken but I was disappointed that they ran out of it...

After reading about Savory here on Yelp, I've been by twice so far. The first time, I just tried the lumpia and found it okay. The second time I had the fried chicken plus the pancit palabok. Like many others, I wasn't real impressed by the chicken although the gravy is delicious. The pancit palabok, on the other hand, is what will keep me coming back. The restaurant size is small but clean, and seating is decent

Well, well, well.  Savory Fried Chicken.  How was I supposed to know this was a Filipino restaurant???

Yelp.  That's how.

My first meal there was at 7:30 on Friday and my second meal (take-out) was noon on Saturday.

Can you tell I liked it?

The Grilled Chicken is AMAZING.  Tastes so close to home cooking!  I normally pass on chicken breasts, but I am shamefully admitting that on Friday I ate an ENTIRE half chicken, 3 pieces of Pork Lumpia (gave the 4th to the bf) and all of my Fried Rice.

On Saturday, I ordered the same fricking thing for lunch!  Plus a side of Pancit Palabok!  Now, being the Whitest Filipino Ever, I didn't know what Palabok meant, but I had some tasty rice noodles in a fishy sauce with chicharrones.

No, I didn't eat ALL of it.  I fancy myself a lady for the most part...

Anyway, they serve a super awesome mystery sauce with their chicken.  Previous reviewers are correct...totally unnecessary!  But it is delicious!!!  At least try it on a few bites.

Next I'm gonna try the Siomai, even though I haven't a clue how to pronounce that one.  I'll try to wait longer than 17 hours between SFC meals this time...

While aimlessly driving around Sacramento, looking for a non-chain, highly starred place to drop by for a late lunch, the Yelp app helped us get to Savory Fried Chicken. After glancing through some reviews on the fiance's iTouch, it won me over and we decided to try it. There really aren't that many Filipino places in the Bay Area, unless you count Goldilocks. But if you consider Goldilocks to be authentic Filipino food, then you might as well consider Mr. Chau's to be authentic Chinese food.

Anyway, we ordered the adobo pork with fried rice and their special half fried chicken with java rice. The java rice is always interesting, it reminds me of Spanish rice, but not as rich in flavor. The chicken tastes different. It's definitely no KFC. The skin is nice and crisp and just tastes lighter than your typical fried chicken. I wouldn't really consider our half chicken an actual half chicken though, maybe it's more like a steroid-ed game hen or something. The sweet and sour dipping sauce definitely complimented the chicken since it lacked a bit of flavor. It was unique (a good kind of unique). I wasn't much of a fan of the adobo pork, but I think it's more of an acquired taste.

Don't go there for the service, but for the food in itself. You know a place is authentic since everyone (besides us) that came in for a bite was Filipino.

Yelp comes to the rescue once again!  I was in Sacramento for the weekend, and remembered that this place had been recommended quite highly. I didn't really know what to expect (it's in a strip mall surrounded by empty stores), but lordy, how nice it is to walk into a Filipino restaurant that is 1) clean, with great 2) service, 3) prices and 4) food.

Usually  you're lucky if you get one out those four at your typical Filipino restaurant (I can say that because I'm Filipina), but SFC hit a home run with me.

For $6.99, I got half a fried chicken, a huge serving of white rice, and four pieces of lumpia with a cup of the mystery brown gravy.  The chicken was a good sized portion, unfettered with flour or too much spice.  The super crispy skin was just slightly blistered, indicating a good deep quick fry.  The meat itself was very juicy, moist and tender.  Like others, I was a bit wary of the gravy, but it went well with the chicken.

It was worth going a little out of my way for this little Filipino treasure.  I will be back, no doubt about that!

I'm not very familiar with area of Sacramento and I really don't know Elk Grove at all. I was in the area visiting a friend in the hospital and thought I might check yelp for some ideas.

Well, I am impressed. I got the fried chicken and fried rice and it was delicious and huge. The frying was that delicate Filipino style I have not tasted elsewhere. The fried rice was tasty and not greasy. One of the best things was the sauce, with that definite Filipino flavor.

I'll be back if I'm in the area again.

I'm always a little apprehensive about eating at a Filipino restaurant. I mean, I get enough of it at home & I'm always pretty critical about it since I've had my fair share over the years being Filipino and all. Eating out for me also comes before doing something else, and eating Filipino meals for the most part makes me hellllla tired and negates all plans that I've made previously.

Enter Savory Fried Chicken. I already knew from the get-go that I was probably going to nap afterward, so I made sure to clear out my schedule before I came here. I already had a couple of pork skewers from here previously, and I was sold since they were amazing. But I came here because the owners had to feel at least a little confident in their fried chicken making skills to name their business "Savory Fried Chicken". If someone named their restaurant "Tasty Ass Fish", I'd expect nothing less.

I got the half chicken with fried rice and four pieces of lumpia. I winced at $6.99, but I gleamed after I was done with my meal. Easily one of the best pieces of chicken I've ever had, and the lumpia and rice portions were more than enough since I obliterated the half chicken. I've NEVER used the gravy that was given to me when I ordered chicken at Jollibee; frankly I thought it was kind of repulsive. Savory turned me into a gravy convert, and I half-heartedly (Pun intended? Coronary problem time!) thank them for that.

I always rank on Elk Grove because all Laguna Blvd. has for the most part are chain restaurants that completely suck. Little did I know that behind a WalGreens lies a gem.

Savory Fried Chicken rules.

A whole fried chicken for under $10 and it's delicious!  I've been going here since they first opened. I usually call it in and it's ready to be picked up in about 10 minutes. The last time we came in they told us to order it "extra crispy" and you could eat the bones. Haha. Not that I'd want to eat the bones, but I think I'll order it that way next time.

Also, I've been meaning to try Louisiana Heaven which is next door. But each time my bf and I opt for Savory Chicken.

Three words.

O   M  G... ok Three Letters. Oh My Guummahffaaaahhhh!!! So, I over exaggerate.  Whatever...

Totaaaaaaaaaaaal RIVALRY on MAX's Chicken and Chow King Chains and also, you can't compare this from Jollibee since the "BEE" only does Fried Chicken. But man... SAVORY....why the heck does it really remind me of the Mother Island?

1) Taste. The Filipino taste is there. You just know it. Its in the Grilled Version / Sweet Gravy. Its in the Fried Version / Tasty Gravy (YEAH let me get to that).

2) The people who work there. HAHA, ok, yeah, dead give away.

3) The MENU CHOICES. Yum.

Ok now the food.

I preferably would choose the Fried over the Grilled. Now, I haven't tried, but am hoping, that I can get the Fried Chicken TASTY GRAVY (I call it that LOL), instead of the Sweet Gravy that comes with the Grilled Chicken. Then, maybe, just MAYBE, I would swing more towards the Grilled side.  The Brown Tasty Gravy is way better than the Dark Sweet Gravy IMO. The Dark Sweet Gravy is kind of on the Salty side, but it could probably be a more "healthier" than it's Brown Tasty Gravy Counter Part

But that Fried Chicken though... JESUSMARYJOSEPH (say that the Filipino way!) ! Normally I'd get the quarter chicken and when I bite into that and finish, there's literally TWO BONES LEFT: the thigh bone and the other small hip bone. I can seriously crunch down the lil-itty-bitty pieces . Its that FRIED, its THAT CRISPY, its THAT BUCKING FUTT DELICIOUS. Excuse the CAPS, but that's WHY I'd go here over those other chains.  Shoot, I can probably do the same to the Half Chicken!

So, aside from the chicken...is the other yummy sides you can get: Lumpia, Longonisa, Shomai, Won Ton Soup, and others that I forgot.  "Savory" combos these sides with either a Half or Quarter Chicken.  Its better to get the combo though... the sides are mathematically expensive...

PRICES.... Combos are GREATLY PRICED. VERY VERY reasonable for what you get IMO versus some places. Ranges from the 6~9$ range. But the sides are normally 2~3$ in range... W T F is THAT?!?! That's like 1/3 the cost of your meal. Hence YOU MUST GET THE COMBO! I mean you can get the chicken on its own, but that's like getting a SIDE... Did you say El Pollo Loco? OH... see... NOW that's a DIFFERENT STORY.  Savory HAS better prices, and BETTER QUANTITY.

Overall, I like the place.  I've never seen it busy, yet, but be sure to expect it to be. Not a lot of seating but that's okay. Location, for most it might be burdensome since its like on Franklin and Laguna, but its with in the boundaries.

Oh, my buddy even asked "Is this the SAME Savory chain like the one in Philippines?" The answer was "NO, we're a different kind." HEHE.

I plan to eat here every now and then. Major Hunger Pangs because of that CRUNCHY CHICKEN!!!

You're one of my new favs... AND DON'T CLOSE!!! PLEASE!!!

Not sure what to say that hasn't already been said.  The chicken was dry and kind of bland.  The deep frying pretty much washed all the spices and flavor off the skin.  I guess thats why they give you the gravy.  I know its not traditional Filipino style, but they should try dusting it off in some seasoned flour or corn meal to help hold some of the spices onto the skin.  Fry up some plantains and yucca on the side since you got the fryer going on and add something healthy like veggies or fruit (fried banana, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter).  I'm just trying to make some suggestions as I really support mom and pop restaurants like this but can't justify giving more than 3 stars (one extra for non-chain).   I dragged a female friend over here to try, she took a few bites and complained it was too heavy.  I had to take her to Jamba J.  later.  I wish some people would learn respect for food and not waste it if it is edible.  She could have taken it home and given it to someone else, but I ended up eating it all.

When it comes to Filipino food, I'm probably your worst critic because nothing compares to my mom's. So when I read the reviews of Savory Chicken, I had to give it a try.

The restaurant itself was definitely a "mom and pop" place, but what set it apart from most hole in the wall small business restaurants was that it was very clean and that's really important to me. The service was nothing out of the ordinary. Not overly nice, but not rude either.

I ordered the #3 meal: fried chicken, fried rice and a side order of lumpia. It looked like I wasn't able to order the quarter chicken because the price was blacked out, and I was never really given the option. I settled for the half chicken and the combo total came out to be about $7.50. I received my food quickly. I was hungry so I appreciated that.

The food itself was good, but not amazing. I liked the fried chicken because it wasn't coated with a thick greasy batter. The fried rice was also nice because, like other reviewers mentioned, it was very light, not too oily. I didn't care for the gravy nor the lumpia. I'm not really sure how you can mess lumpia up, but I don't know... I just have had better. All in all, it was good but not extraordinary. I would come back for the chicken if I was really craving it, but otherwise eh... we'll see.

I like it!  It's just chicken, but its good chicken.  The grilled chicken was tasty and not greasy.  It was a little sweet and salty at the same time which is always a good combo in my book.  The meat was tender and came off the bone but wasn't dry at all, which is what I was worried of.  I did not eat the chicken with any of the sauces/gravy.  It was good the way it was.  I got pancit and fried rice with the chicken.  Pancit was okay, but nothing that stood out for me.  The fried rice was not bad.  BF got the fried chicken...it was juicy and still not greasy...and did not need the gravy...this chicken stands alone!  The FLAN is really really good.  It's creamy and rich without being overly sweet.  I was never a fan of flan until I had this one.  It's only $6 for pretty decent slab.  I'll be heading here the next time I need a chicken fix.
Stopped by after eating at kabob Palace and picked up a flan.  The owner lady was nice and asked if we wanted to try some dessert for free, sweet sticky rice thing...we declined but appreciated the offer :)

Mmmmmm......Savory Fried Chicken!  This place makes me want to invite over tons of relatives I barely know, sing karoake, and relive all of Manny Pacquiao's fights!!

The fried chicken is GOOD.  The grilled chicken is EVEN BETTER. The BBQ sauce on it is....well....savory.

You'd think the dipping sauces aren't necessary, BUT they are too good  not to use.  Sweet and sour sauce are usually just OK. This one I wanted to put it on everything.  The gravy that comes with the fried chicken compliments the chicken perfectly.

The fried rice was also surprisingly good.  All the flavor of fried  rice was there,  yet the rice was still as fluffy as steamed rice.

All this and the place is a great value too.  I'd say the best way to do it is order for a group and share some half chicken combos so you can try the different sides.  I'm tempted do that even when I go just by myself!!

Filipino food at chain restaurants... SUCKS.  Too crappy, too dry, too little, too expensive for the amount of food you get, etc.  To get the good stuff, your best bet would be an invitation to someone's Filipino mama's house for dinner or a party.  But finally, there's hope...

Find Walgreens http://www.yelp.com/bi...
If headed south on Franklin Blvd, find the Walgreen's store as you're approaching Laguna Blvd.  Savory Fried Chicken is hidden behind Walgreen's.

The Fried Chicken
I ordered the leg quarter with fried rice.  Without any coating, the chicken + skin was crisp fried.  Initially biting into it, I got a dry salty taste, but past that, the inside was tender and moist.  Yum.  The gravy is pretty much that stuff you'd find made and the Thanksgiving table, only a bit smoother.  The gravy seemed to work with that initial salty/crispy bite.  The fried rice didn't look like much, rice + peas + carrots, but like another reviewer mentioned, was surprisingly moist, as if it were steamed rice.

Insider(?) Info
I mentioned the name to a woman who visits her home land on a frequent basis.  She was actually excited to hear that name, "Savory Fried Chicken."  Her sister is a food critic in the Philippines - she reviews everything from the famous Chefs to the food carts in the street.  Out of all of the chains in the Philippines, her sister mentioned that Savory Fried Chicken is one of the oldest (AND better chains) around.  As she looked at the menu I took with me, she claimed that there were some items missing, that Savory Fried Chicken was well known for - one of them being (someone correct my spelling if needed) Pancit Canton.  Regardless, she was definitely excited to find out that they exist in Elk Grove.

Comparisons
At Chow King, their chicken was dried up and stale at times.  Max's was slightly better, yet NOT good enough.  Once, I went to a Goldilock's, known for their great cakes, for a Chicken Adobo lunch.  For over $5, all I got was a few drummettes that seemed to be overdone with soy sauce and uninspired.  I swore never to eat at a Goldilock's again.

I hear that Savory's steamed chicken is even better than the fried chicken.  I don't know why...  everything is SO basic, I could probably learn cook the items myself - still... I'm actually craving the Fried Chicken w/Gravy right now.

Ah like it, Ah like it a lot...

This place is a cheapskate paradise! Talk about bang for the buck. For $7.50 you get half a chicken, rice, and a side. A full rotisserie chicken is like $7 right? and doesn't nearly taste as good! Lumpia is 4 for $2.50 and this fried plaintain & jackfruit called turon is only a buck for 2. The value here is outstanding.

I was able to order two combos in a way to try many things. We were able to try the following: grilled chicken, fried chicken, longanisa, pork lumpia, and fried rice. I added on a turon to try since the kids like fried banana in the past.

The chicken was very good overall. I preferred the grilled chicken over the fried actually. I think the reason is because the fried chicken is very similar to the crispy skin chicken you get at chinese restaurants, so the flavor was familiar. Each type of chicken comes with a different sauce. The grilled comes with a sweet BBQ sauce which was awesome. The fried comes with a thicker gravy type sauce which reminded me of american brown gravy but had some added flavors, possibly anise? The meat was moist and the breast meat was not too dry. The grilled chicken was marinated nicely and had lots of flavor. The crispy chicken skin was just that, crispy and tasty.

The lumpia came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce and were most excellente. The longanisa was sweet, moist, and superb. I could eat these sausages all day long. I would recommend the fried rice over the steamed rice. it was not "fried well" in the sense that it was still very moist and fluffy. It had peas and carrots in it and a light flavor which didn't compete with the rest of the meal. Let's say it is lightly fried. I didn't eat much of the Turon but one bite was sweet and crispy and the kids seemed to enjoy it.

Service was friendly and courteous. I went at an odd time (4pm, Tues) and the place was empty. They prepared my food fresh so it took 5-10 min to get it, but I'm definitely happy to wait for food cooked to order.

Once again I must emphasize the bang for the buck. We fed a family of 4 for under $20 and had a little bit of leftovers to boot. Get over there and bring your pocket change, you'll love the value!

So glad I found out about this restaurant. I love thier fried chicken and gravy, grilled chicken and pancit palabok. I've recommended this to some of my friends. The gravy for the fried chicken is either you would love it or hate it I guess coz I love it but some of my friends doesn't care for the flavor. I think it's the anise that makes it different from the rest.
Either way will sure be coming back for more!
And by the way, customer service gets  5 stars!

Ok . . . saw the reviews and had to try it out . . . we drive down to Laguna and I know where the Walgreens is . . . ok . . . go in back . . . not in the first strip mall . . . ok . . . oh, there it is (SFC; made it up . . . ha ha) in the second strip mall behind Walgreens closer to Franklin.  I told my GF we were going to a mystery dinner and she could go casual.  When we arrived; she thought we were going to the Cajun place next door (which was closed).  We go in and see pictures with descriptions and prices along the wall.  We head to the back and look at the main menu up behind the counter.
Me: fried chicken plate with rice and longanisa sausage; halo halo
Her: same but with pancit and coke.  A $6.00 small tray of flan to go

We sit down in the casual eating area and eventually our food is ready.  I go and pick up the two cafeteria styled trays with the foam divider plates; plastic utensils and napkins.  The 1/2 chicken looks good and so does my little sausages.  My GF is Filipino so she digs in and says she likes the chicken and puncit.  The gravy on the side tastes like KFC's which is good.  Mine was good although I only ate the drumstick; wing; sausages and rice.  I've been sick the last few days so I'm not 100% full eating power yet.  That's ok since they were real nice and gave us take out boxes and extra gravy.

We would notice some people ordered ahead and just came to pick up and some people ordered there and took it to go.  No problem . . .

Ratings:
Ambience:     B-  it is a casual place so don't expect fancy stuff
Cleanliness: A  looked clean and orderly
Food:              B+  food was good; they were out of fried rice which I was looking forward to . . . darn
Price:              B  I thought the prices were fair

Overall:           B+  The people were real nice; the food good and the place was clean.  I would go back and the GF said she should bring her mom so it must have been good.

Check it out!

The fried chicken here is outstanding.  I tried it because the prior reviews of this place were so good.

I ordered take out for my wife and I.  We both had the #3 combo.  The chicken was so flavorful and the gravy is one of the best I've ever had.  The fried rice was pretty good.  The lumpia was good but nothing above average.

Upon entering I was greeted with great service with a smile.  The staff was very nice.  I had called in my order in was warm and ready to go when I arrived.  The service overall was outstanding.

Overall I think Savory Fried Chicken is great, but there is room for improvement.  Just don't change the recipe of that fried chicken and gravy, they are awesome.

It's all about the chicken. I fell into nostalgia eating it.. it was like going to a friend's house to eat.

I've yet to try the grilled chicken but the fried was fantastic. I had a combo and it came with gravy, rice(steamed or fried) and pancit. Savory Fried Chicken would've have gotten the perfect 5 stars but the sides were disappointing.

Very good fried chicken and a good value.

Stopped by for a takeout order of combo #3 (quarter chicken + lumpia + rice) and halo halo for $10.   Chicken was tasty,  crispy,  freshly fried, and piping hot as were the lumpia.  Lumpia filling was tasty.  On the combo you have the option of veggie/egg fried rice or plain white.  I opted for the plain white rice.  The gravy is yummy and goes great with the chicken and  the rice.  (Is that star anise I detect?).  The halo halo hit the spot especially since it's 109 today.

Am so glad they are in my 'hood so that i don't have to go the *other* 'hood for halo halo and fried chicken.

$4.99 specials at Savory Fried Chicken. What, cheap good food even cheaper. That's so worth the extra star for me. Remember tell them David O. from Yelp sent you in.

I wanted so much to love this place.  I was excited to find a Filipino restaurant in Elk Grove because it is a family favorite.  After all the glowing reviews here, I promised my husband it would be worth the take-out splurge.

What a huge disappointment.  I got there at 5:30, and they close at 6:00 on Saturday.  Apparently they stop cooking food in the afternoon, and they run out of everything by dinner time.  Their menu is very small and they were out of half the things I tried to order!  The Java rice, fried rice , and grilled chicken were all gone.  That left me with the steamed rice (I can make that at home!), Adobo and fried chicken, which I would describe to others as rotisserie-like.  Another family came in and left as soon as they found out that steamed rice was their only option.

The family loved the fried chicken.  The lumpia was good, (but far from the best I've had), but my husband couldn't eat more than two bites of his Adobo.  I thought he was being overly picky (it happens), so I tried it.  Yeah.....not quite bad enough to spit out, but I would never order it there again.

The price was good, and the woman who manages the place was very friendly.  What a shame that the selection was so dismal and the food was mediocre at best.  After this place, my husband is never going to let me choose the restaurant again!

I was initially expecting (because of the name) a fried chicken joint, but to my surprise, "Savory" is a terrific Filipino establishment, serving pancit, lumpia, and of course, fried chicken, among other things. The chicken is soooo  good! It's moist and flavorful, with a light golden crispy skin. My favorite is the chicken and pancit combo...and for under $8, it's a great deal too.

Tucked away behind the Walgreen's at Franklin/Laguna, this spot is a bit hard to find at first. The owners sold the original location in Milpitas (which was hugely popular for many years), and it's a treat to have them here. The place is very clean and pleasant, and I'll be coming back again for my Filipino "fast food" fix!

Took the fam to dinner here last night based on word of mouth from friends and family, and other yelp reviews. To tell you the truth, it was kind of a toss up between Hawaiian Style Grill w/ live music, or Savory with Halo-Halo... and in my son's eyes, the halo-halo tipped the scale.

We walked in to a VERY empty restaurant where we were the only patrons (this didn't last for long as it filled rather quickly 10 mins into our meal), and found the staff very hospitable and friendly (I felt like I was eating in someone's house.. its a good thing).  We ordered 2 number 3's with a half and quarter sized chicken, lumpia and steamed rice, then they offered to bring out the halo-halo out towards the end of he meal.

Chicken was VERY crispy, and I swear I heard one or two "mmmm.." sounds coming from the table as we started to munch on the tasty skin.  The provided gravy was tasty but I could taste a lot of the starch (maybe too much flour?) but nice to have.  Lumpia was cooked to perfection, and I only ate one, because my son ate 2 of mine and 2 of my wife's.

Halo-Halo came around, and it came in the normal Goldilocks fashion with beans/jellies etc. on the bottom of the cup with evaporated milk and shaved ice, with a very generous piece of Leche Flan to top it off.  Nothing flashy like Max's, no ice cream like Loard's. I didn't think the Halo-Halo needed it, it was good for a hot day, and the stresses of lugging around 2 kids.

I disagree with the prior reviews giving this place a 5 star review.  I would give it a 3 1/2 star if I could, but I'll round it out to 4 stars.  The place met my expectation of a good takeout place with cozy dining area, but far from a 5 star, as I didn't find anything immediately impress me and make this place stand out from the rest.

YUM-EEEE. Oh how I have missed you, Savory Chicken. This place is just as good, if not better than the original in Milpitas. The decor is great, everything looks so nice and new, and very clean. Nothing too complicated, which is the same as the menu.
And that brings me to the food... I usually go for the #3, half chicken with pork lumpia. The portions are generous, and the food is delicious. I can never finish the half, but I order it anyway, so I can eat the leftovers for later. =) The skin on the chicken is fried and flavored to perfection, and the gravy is an added bonus, which I usually use to dip the white meat in, or even the lumpias (though the sweet and sour sauce they provide in the store is pretty good too). Rice, you can order steamed or fried... although their fried rice is good, I usually prefer the steamed.
As for dessert, if you still have room, I love Halo Halo, and it's so hard to find a good one around the San Jose area. The one they serve is very generous, and definitely hits the spot on a hot day. Their Taho with Sago is also pretty good.... talking about it makes me want more!!
Anyway, definitely recommended for some great Filipino style chicken. Parking is plentiful, and the place is relatively easy to find right on the corner of Laguna and Franklin.

From the name I assumed the chicken was going to be similar to KFC, battered and fried.  Well, don't assume that... it's better.  And there are pictures on the walls for a person (i.e. me) to know what they are getting.

They offer fried (something closer to a rotisserie) and grilled chicken.  Both are tasty.  The combos are inexpensive and quite a bit of food.  The garlic fried rice is good.  Next time I will have to try the pancit.

Savory Chicken, I have been a customer of them since I was 15 years old (31 now) and I know the owner (Rosie). They are a filipino restaurant that has great tasting chicken (fried or charboiled) and their gravy sauce is also what makes it good.
They use to be located in Milpitas/San Jose CA  and are well known in the south bay area, but they sold that store and just recently opened the place in Elk Grove because they moved there. I too moved to Elk Grove, but moved back to San Jose just recently, but I was able to see them during their opening week.
I have already recommended them to my wife's co-workers at the South Sacramento Kaiser so hopefully the word goes around about a good filipino restaurant in Elk Grove. It's located on the cross streets of Laguna and Franklin, it's hard to see because they are right behind Walgreens. If you're in the area, try them out and when you do, let them know that "Gerald" told you about them, I bet Rosie's eyes will light up =)

Their grilled chicken is THE best.  And the fried bananas are simply addictive.

Solid portions at a fair price.

Make time to try them out - you won't be disappointed !

It was ok, nothing special in my book. Ordered takeout, the combo with half chicken, pancit, and white rice. Ordered side order of lumpia. The chicken wasn't anything special. It had a nice crispiness on the outside, but the meat was a bit dry with some meat done to the point of stringiness. The chicken reminded me of the fried chicken you get at chinese joints with the multi-course meals. The pancit noodles had a nice flavor but the cabbage in it was sorta bitter. The gravy was ok, with a star anise flavor, sort of like that Chinese beef stew. I was let down by the lumpia, crispy and hot, but nothing stood out, tasted like the lumpia that L&L sells. Restaurant was very clean. Might have to try the grilled chicken next time. Oddly, 2 hrs later after this meal, I was hungry.

Yummy stuff.  I prefer the grilled chicken over the fried chicken. I definitely prefer Savory Fried Chicken over Max's but that's another topic.  I always need a to-go box for my leftovers because portions are huge.  We'll be back for more and next time, I'm saving room for some halo-halo.
