“pretty good savers, not huge and overwhelming like the San Jose one.” in 5 reviews
I'm so mad i moved out of town because out of all places, this is what i miss most about Milpitas. savers has a huge selection of clothing, shoes, books, jewelry, toys, and home decor stuff. it's awesome! they have a lot to offer.
on holidays they have 50% OFF all clothing, and on regular days they always have discounts on certain colored tags.
i have found my most prized possesions from this store w/o spending a fortune ;)
i left a star out because there is always this one lady who "patrols" the dressing rooms, damn near staring everyone down like they are about to rob the damn place. sheesh, sometimes it would make me just drop all of my stuff and just leave. for the most part, i really do love this store though.
Great thrift store. Supported by the Hope foundation. Give jobs to the people who need them. Saying that, as I walked around the store, I noticed employees having great conversations. What is this? Happy employees? How nice.
I found myself one of the best grandma cat cardigan sweaters. I'm so going to wear this to work. As everyone knows I'm the 30 something cat lady. Going back to this Savers, Yes!
Good section of books! 69 cents on all children's books and buy 4 get 1 free!
Clothes nicely organized by sizes. Lots of selection and branded stuffs.
Came on a warm day, they should turn the AC on high. But it doesn't smell like a thrift store. Thye've got air freshener throughout the store.
pricing inconsistent though. A like brand new pair of kids gap jeans for $3.99 but a worn out pair of some no name brand cost more.
donate something and get 20% off. They made an announcement if you donate 2 or 3 bags of stuffs u get 30% limited time only though.
Good location, lots to look through.
Was passing through town from Fremont and decided to stop in.
I bought a shamrock necklace, a "Frankenweenie" book and a life-sized plush dalmation...all items that I HAD to have, of course!
Total was $9 with tax and my coupon. Score!
We love coming here for the books. They have a great selection of children's books and you get a free book if you buy 4 (or 5?). It is never too crowded and there is always plenty of parking.
People tend to leave their donations outside the fence despite the big sign that says no dumping. But I blame the demographics for this, not the store.
It's a treasure hunt in here-you have to look closely and most likely you'll find something you like! I especially liked the jeans and coats section (in my opinion, lots to choose from). Also, check out the books!
One of the cashiers demonstrated great customer service when he helped my friend apply the 20% off coupon even after she had purchased everything-he went through the trouble of getting a few of his co-workers to assist him and took the burden upon himself by saying that he forget to apply the coupon when in reality it was my friend's forgetfulness in giving him the coupon prior to buying everything.
Oh and if you donate a bag of stuff, you get a 20% off coupon that is good towards your purchase!
Some good points:
Savers still offers a 20% Senior discount (on Tuesdays), compared to Goodwill which has cut back from an everyday 20% to a once-a-week 10%. Only the Salvation army does better, with a 15% discount every day.
Selected colored tickets are reduced by 50% each day.
Donations are accepted right up until the store's closing time.
Some less good points:
Savers has a policy of bagging up and stapling smaller items into random and sometimes unconnected collections, which then sell for around $3 - $10 a bag. This is presumably for the sake of neatness, since in the Old Days customers used to just drop smaller goods all over the floor because they were too lazy to put them back on the hangers. However, in many cases you have to pull the bags open to see what's in there and if it's damaged or working or salable at all, and sometimes you'll be stuck buying things you don't want, to get one item you do.
When I was last here, there were no signs to show which color tickets were reduced except for a small, handwritten one by the registers which was obviously for the staff, not the customers. So if you don't see the signs, go ask before you do any serious looking.
In common with moves by other thrift stores, Savers will no longer offer you a refund even if the item you bought is broken, dangerous or incorrectly described.
You can see this store from the freeway, but you can't get here from there, and you have to find your way from the nearby main road by sight and smell as there's no sign. A native guide might be useful first time around. I gather it used to be a proper mall with a supermarket, the shell of which is now occupied by the Savers store; the rest is a rather potholed and slightly seedy shadow of its former self that would make a fair TV set representing some anonymous third-world country in an old Mission Impossible episode. Across the almost unused side road there's a municipal vehicle storage place, and at the back is an empty piece of waste ground decorated with trash.
Although the store looks a bit seedy from the outside, it's fine on the inside. It's big, and laid out the same as every other Savers store of this size. It's bright, and by and large the selection is clean and well-presented.
As a man shopping for myself, I can't comment on the range or quality of the female clothing department, but there looks to be a big choice, as is typical with these stores. There's also a good selection of mens' clothing, though some of it is surprisingly expensive compared to other similar stores so be careful. Shopping around always pays off.
There's the usual selection of maybe-functional electronics and small appliances, and a small furniture department, but nothing as organized or on the scale of the Salvation Army in Campbell.
I've been here a few times on the lookout for bargains in mens' suits, shirts, ties and shoes and drawn a blank each time. I could have been unlucky, who knows. But this doesn't seem to be the place to look if you're after an Italian designer jacket at a bargain price. It also hasn't had much or anything by the way of cameras, high-end electronics or other boy-toys. Again there are far better thrift stores to visit for these.
I'd consider visiting this one now and again, but not going out of my way for. Some thrift stores are worth a visit almost every day, but I get the feeling this isn't one of them unless your interests are very middle-of-the-road and mainstream and you aren't sniffing for serious bargains. Of course, your mileage will vary. If you find a Rembrandt, don't tell me.
This Savers is really, really overpriced. They process inventory extremely fast, I dropped off 10 boxes of clothes and the next day they were already out on the floor tagged and hanging for sale, except I found the prices ridiculous. Normally anything that's decent condition I'll sell to consignment stores so I save only the bottom of the barrel for donations, and they were selling an old wrinkly sweater of mine for $7.99, and some old Aeropostale shorts for the same $7.99. These prices are like sale or clearance retail, I couldn't believe how much they were gouging customers. They also put out a lot of poor quality items on the floor to sell, lots of things had stains or small holes.
On the other hand, if you really really realllllly dig, you can find some stuff for reasonable prices. But it takes like 2 hours. I came out with a Banana Republic satin type lace tank (not sure of exact material) for $5.99.
Take advantage of the wastefulness of Americans and find great clothing at super-cheap prices. I got a pair of dress pants (brand new, tags on) for 11.99. They have some great finds here. My sister found a pair of jeans that normally would be $100 for only $8.99.
The thing that sets Savers apart from other thrift stores like Goodwill is that they are very well organized. It is easier to find clothes here than say, Ross, or other discount clothing stores like Marshalls.
Get 20% off by donating a bag of clothes! Come out looking like a boss!
Over the years, this place has definitely improved. Much better organized. I like how they have the color discount system where certain days, certain colors on the tags are discounted.
One star less because sometimes, the items are very expensive still! Like come on! People donated this ish and you're charging hella money! So they make a lot of profit. Not cool in my book. But I personally do enjoy the cheaper prices!
Tim is such an asset to this store! I have been coming to this Savers since its beginnings in Milpitas. He was exuberant and brought spirit to the store during Halloween time, and before Halloween he was always great on the PA system and very helpful. I usually visit this store 2-3 times per week. He has always stood out with his customer service skills. Also a shout out to the other men working at the store, they all seem to get things done and are personable while doing it. Great to see some customer service skills here!
This is one of my all-time favorite thrift stores in the bay area. Like any second-hand store, you have to go in expecting that it may be hit-or-miss, but 9 out of 10 times I come home with some great new finds!
It is a huge store - one that is organized by type of clothing and by size. For me that is a plus since half of the stuff that I buy new from stores in places such as the Great Mall ends up not fitting right (especially after that first wash!). In other words, this is a curvy girl's dream! You'll find SOMETHING that fits.
They have a great selection of shirts, pants, jeans, dresses, skirts... they also have a lot of household items. I bought most of my pots and pans that I use for cooking here. They do sell some furniture and they also have a lot of books, magazines, VHS tapes and DVDs.
Although their fitting rooms are very small (especially when you bring in all of your fabulous finds from the store!) I can't complain because this store is just too awesome.
The employees are all super-friendly and helpful too.
If you're looking for a thrift shop in the bay area, this is definitely as good as they come!
I went here today with 2 of my friends and I am absolutely in love with this place!
We spent a good 2 hours there. The place is huge!
I ended up spending $80.... but I have no regrets! I got an American Eagle Outfitters Beige Parka Coat for $24.99, 3 pairs of high waisted shorts for $3.99 each (I've been looking for these everywhere!), 1 pair of bright blue levis skinny jeans for $3.99, a maxi skirt for $1.99, a Burton jacket for $9.99, a fancy clutch for $5.99, a Nike competitive swimsuit for $5.99, and a dark blue GAP jean jacket for $6.99.
There were 5 fitting rooms and I barely ever had to wait in line to try on clothes. They even have shopping carts and small carts you can pull while shopping.
They have a wide selection of dvds, VHS, and books as well.
Ooh, and it's pretty cool cause you can get discount cards if you donate stuff! Senior citizens over 55 years of age get 20% off on Wednesdays :)
I'm going to check out the one near Valley Fair Mall tomorrow, because I heard they are moving to San Jose, so they're having a huge sale!
I had previously visited the Almaden location and was expecting the same great stuff, but the selection at this location wasn't great. Some of the clothes looked a lot more worn. But each and every location is different and nonetheless the place was organized and clean.
I don't think I'd ever buy any clothes here. Looked like a bunch of old lady sweaters. t
They do have cool ass jewelry boxes though! I wanted to buy like every jewelry box there! They probably just have great finds for home decor.
There bathroom upstairs is also very scary. It's like a dungeon, don't go alone ha. Feels like you're in a scary movie, about to get murdered.
This review is for the donation experience that I had here today.
I had bags of clothes that i needed to donate and wasn't sure where i should drop them off mainly because there was too much to fit in one of those donation boxes located on the corner of shopping plazas. I remembered receiving those HOPE service fliers in the mail every so often where you can just leave bags of clothes outside and they'd have a truck stroll through the neighborhood to pick up your bags of clothes. Unfortunately I'm moving and needed to get rid of them ASAP. Browsed their site and found out that Savers is partnered with HOPE services so therefore I decided to drop off my things there. Good causes, I'm all for supporting them!
Not the closest donation center to me but the only one I knew where it was exactly at. Came there at noon, the parking lot and area is kinda sketch but my drop off was nice and and simple as can be. Found the donation center located on the corner right where u drive into the parking lot. Knocked on the door and a nice man opened it for me, helped me lug all my bags of clothes inside. He asked me if I've ever shopped at Savers before and I said no, so he gave me a discount card and stamped it several times so i can rack up some discounts in case i wanted to shop there. He also gave me a coupon voucher thing where i could save for tax purposes which i was able to fill on my own and put my own price. =)
Either they have it or they don't. If they have what you want, then yes, it's a great bargain. If not, then there is not much we can do. Every time I come here, I find something extremely cheaper than retail value. When I was there last time, I saw Raider's jerseys, 49ers shirts and even NCAA college hats for a fraction of their cost elsewhere. Don't feel embarrassed shopping here. It's the same as buying used cars. If you can buy more for less, you are a smart shopper, period.
Having two children, I am always looking for a good deal on clothes. Being new to the area, I was eager to find a good thrift store nearby. Back in Canada I used to shop at Value Village, which turns out to be the exact same company as Savers. I was very happy! I will return for sure as they had a great selection of kids' clothes, shoes for me, and plus sized clothing.
Very clean and very well organized. All the employees I came in contact with were very nice.
tip: check out their coat selections, theres a lot of great finds like Pendleton/Italian made/and vintage styled coats! too bad most of the SMALLS are still too big for me!
cons: regardless of brand for example when I was browsing skirts: a f21 and Banana Republic skirt will be around the same price, but they have lots of cute skirts too! (whether you want something classy, mod, vintage, or timeless, or even boho.
With any thrift store you just have to go through everything and you may or may not find something. But there are a lot of gems.
I like going to this location to check out books usually, I haven't really checked out the clothes too much, but they have interesting pieces.
TIP TIP:
try things on and for things that are a little too big and such, you can always fix it up. Use your imagination sometimes. But don't walk away with a piece you don't like in some sort of way because that could have been a real gem for someone else.
Decent prices and mostly well-organized. Sometimes you'll find something with the tag off and they won't let you buy it because they have to retag it... but the pricing seems pretty arbitrary anyway. But the staff is nice and there's a lot of great finds here.
(+)
- cheap books
- cheap clothes
(-)
- weird smell
- janky strip mall
I like to drop by this place once in a while. It's located in a janky strip mall area (although there is a cheap tasty indian place in the corner) and there's kind of an odor to the place which you get used to. You can find some great stuff but sometimes you have to really take the time to look.
They pretty much sell everything but I typically like to rummage through the clothing racks and the book section which is so cheap. They have a great housewares section where you can find some interesting pieces. It's also fun to look at the wall with all the bags full of random stuff (blank rolls of receipt paper anyone?).
Come here to donate your old stuff and find some good deals.
I've been to my fair share of thrift stores and unfortunately this one doesn't rank very highly. Other than the fact that everything is clearly marked and organized there really isn't much I liked. When I go thrift shopping I like to spend a good amount of time getting lost in the realms of the unknown. The plethora of hand me downs are really something I look forward to. This store just leaves me wanting more in the adventurous shopping department, if that makes any sense...
I've been thrifting here for almost 13 years. It never gets old. I love finding treasure in the racks.
It doesn't always smell the best but who cares.
There are little baskets you can carry or you can tote around like a little wagon.
The customer service is helpful.
When you donate you get a coupon for 20% off.
This is my biggest secret and I always get tons of compliments on pieces I buy from here. Little do others know that I paid $2.99 for something so cute!
If you have the patience to look and the creativity to throw something together, this is your place!
Unimpressed.
My first thought upon entering was WTH happened here?! The women's clothing was slim pickings. There wasn't anything in the blouses or skirts sections that I found remotely "stylish" or "on trend."
There was a decent selection of dresses, blazers, and outerwear jackets. I picked up a black blazer for $4.99. I didn't see anything here that was overpriced.
There was an ok selection of handbags. None of the belts or scarves were of interest. Shoes were blah. The housewares section was a mess. Books were scarce except for children's books. The jewelry was a disappointment.
The people at the registers seemed nice, but the others who were working the floor, not so much. But anyway, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for trendy pieces. I won't be coming back.
This is for the Hope Donation location to the left of Savers.
It was too easy. My boyfriend helped my load my car with clothes, stuffed animals, purses, and books to donate. The packing shit up and loading it onto my car took the longest. Then all we had to do was drive to the location, back up into the parking spot in front of the door, and ring the doorbell. A friendly guy comes out and helps my bf and I take the stuff out. This literally took about a minute. He asked if I wanted a tax deductible receipt. I said no. And we were donzo.
For the store itself. Books are super cheap. The clothes seem a bit outdated. I never really browsed through the racks. I'd give the store about 4 stars.
Love thrift shopping. I especially like coming here on Wednesdays with my dad because of the senior discount.
Patience is a virtue! I've found great steals from vases for my terrarium plants to name brand clothing!
FYI- don't buy their brand name bags. They are too expensive. You're better off going to Crossroads!
A thrift shop located in the worst strip mall in Milpitas. I remember way back when this place use to be Nob Hill. The place really looks bad....like a hurricane went through it...and thats just the parking lot. So many pot holes in the lot .
Walking into Savers, what was I thinking, I encounter the weirdest smell I ever inhaled. I was gonna breath outta my mouth only but was afraid the odor would attach itself to my tongue. I looked around for about 3 minutes before I ran out. I suppose you can get cheap hand me downs and used nick nacks.Place was clean and straighten.I would rate Goodwill above this place.
Once in a lifetime is enough for me.
I've been here for many, many, many years. I used to go more often because my sister is significantly older than myself... so I spent a couple of my childhood days here.
My recent trip was my first in years, and it's sooooo much cleaner and neater! It's labels itself as as the department store of thrift stores and I agree! It's bigger than most thrifts in the area (I believe?). Their prices are... a mixed bag. Somethings are priced really cheap and others seem overpriced for a thrift store. Also, a lot of costumers like switching around stickers and tags to get themselves good deals... which is really annoying! If you're into buying VHS tapes, they're only $0.99 each and all in really good condition (considering how old they are!!).
What made my experience REALLY pleasant was one worker, Willy. This guy is an older Japanese(?) dude with a deep, movie-narrator type of voice. He was really helpful and funny when I had any questions and overall really charming and sweet. He made nice small talk during checkout and just made my experience so nice. More thrift stores need jolly employees like this! It makes such a difference on your opinion of the place!
I am not exactly sure how they price their items, but the last time I went, I saw two hollister shirts that I wanted to get for my cousins for $7.99!! I could have gotten new hollister tops at the outlet store for about the same price! I actually went to another thrift store recently and bought a hollister shirt for only $1.50. That's sort of the price range i am looking for when i go to thrift stores. They also have 50% off sales depending on the color of the tag which sometimes help, but there's barely anything to pick from during that color tag's sale.
The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because of the 20% discount you get when you donate which is pretty helpful and the fact that it's less than a minute drive from my house.
I came in here a couple of months ago for the first time, and I must admit that the store has this smell to it. Like old people's smell, no offense.
However once u get past the old people smell, it's not that bad. They have a huge selection of clothes, books, seasonal items, and different knickknacks for AFFORDABLE PRICES. I saw these really nice jewelry boxes that would cost at least $20 or more elsewhere, but were being sold for only $2.99 to $6.99. Now that's a steal!
With prices like these, it's too hard to ignore and too hard for you to not want to come shopping at this place. :) They're even cheaper than Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Target, and Walmart! Everything here is well organized and the people that work here - especially this Asian guy named Willy, I think - are very nice and helpful. I'm definitely going shopping here again.
Everything you'd ever need. All in once place.
Prices aren't as cheap as they used to be. But then again, I was in high school. Plus, they don't do that "1/2 off a certain colored tag" day anymore. But if you donate stuff, the employee will give you a 20% off coupon. Just make sure to remind them.
If you think this place is stinky and dirty, go to Moon Zoom in downtown. Saver's is not bad AT ALL.
Sometimes, you just wanna wear stuff that is "vintage."
"Vintage" is a way of lying to your friends.
Your friend: "Oh wow, where'd you get that sweet jacket?"
You: "I am not telling! But it is VINTAGE."
Your friend #2: "Wow! You always have the coolest VINTAGE clothing!"
You: "I know!" (proceeding to pat yourself on the back)
Here is the definition:
vintage (vin-tij): word that liars use to describe previously owned and overly used items, may have yellow pit stains if a white shirt, embedded pubic hairs if woolen, dookie stains on butt parts, jizz stains if pants or a skirt.
I went here yesterday, and have only visited once before a few years ago. My opinion on this place has changed! I was able to find a lot of cute sweaters for winter. As for pricing, it can be a bit mixed. Some items are super cheap and other items can be $10+. I'm a cheap-o at thrift stores and refuse to pay over like $5-$7 for one item. However, I think the brands are the reason for the higher priced items. The store is pretty big, so you're bound to find at least a few items that you'll like. I also like their shopping baskets that you can roll around with you lol. Makes me feel like a kid with a rolling back pack. The store is very organized, and has a great selection of books that are conveniently sorted by genre. Will be coming back! Newly converted Savers fan!
143 I la la la love you.. 143 I la la la love you...
Recently I have been getting my thrifting on with a good friend of mine. She has shown me the ropes to great and extremely great finds. The reason I love this savors location is because it is organized neatly. You do not have to really go digging through the random things you don't want to find. I also was fortunate enough to find a BRAND new pair of Michael Kors wedges HOHMAGAWD. I cannot count how many compliments I have received on those shoes. Cant beat their prices because anothers trash is always someone Else's treasure!
Patience young grasshopper....that's what you need here! But if you have the time to dig and scavenge you will find that treasure or treasures on a good day. They can be pricey- the can be cheap. It really depends on who's taggin' I guess! If you can go on a day when everything is half off- get there early and put your game face on, because it's on! I bought a whole new business wardrobe for about a $100 when I dropped a couple dress sizes, and a lot of that is name brand BAM! I also love the kids selection. They use them for such a short time, they are pratically brand new anyways! Keep the recycle circle going- if they don't go to church, all my donates go here.
