Nestled up a dirt/black-top road, off Highway 9 is Savannah Chanelle - worth the drive!
We got hooked by SC with their Rose a few years ago and are regular visitors to the tasting room when we have friends in town or just 'cus on a sunny Saturday! The crazy thing about SC is when they close out wines, they blow them out the door with ridiculously low prices. When you walk in the door if a sale is on you will see cases piled up with signs on them, don't walk by blindly, presuming your highly evolved palet wouldn't approve to "sale" wines. Those cases are worth a review especially if you are like me and don't have many "mid-week" wines to drink - sometimes all we have is the expensive stuff which is way too nice for Tuesday night with turkey burgers.
Savannah Chanelle has more than just good prices on sale wines - their pinot noirs are delicious and their club-member exclusive wines are out of this world! -

Located up Hwy 9, this winery offered good wines, but only average service. While I didn't get the chance to explore the grounds, the view from the parking lot was just like the pictures; stunning.
Upon entering, the service was rushed at best and pretentious at worst (although I suppose that goes with the trade). Seven wines for $10, one Chardonnay, five Pinot Noirs, and a Port to finish.
I'm not really a red fan and I would have liked to see more variety than five Pinot Noirs, but they know what they're good at and I certainly enjoyed the tasting overall. I'd say this place would be terrific for a proper enthusiast, but the service and wine were a tad too dry for me. -

Every year, my boyfriend and I buy a bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary and save it to open the following year. So we decided to visit a couple wineries in the Saratoga hills. We decided to visit Savannah Chanelle bc it sounded classy and fancy. I absolutely loved our tasting experience here. The tasting room is located in a large airy barn-like room.
Six tastings for $10 plus we got an extra zinfandel barrel taste and a pinot port taste as well. Their specialty is pinot noir and I must say they do it right. My faves were the pinot rose and the pinot 2008 russian ridge. The pinot rose is light and not too sweet. A great choice for a hot Indian summer day! The pinot russian ridge is fruity and spicy. We bought these two bottles for the road.
Mike was quite friendly and knowledgeable about their wines plus offered excellent service. He made us feel quite comfortable as we tasted as opposed to the air of pretense that I often get at wineries.
A very memorable experience and one of the best vineyards in Saratoga. Plus you can't get their wines anywhere else but the vineyard. -

We have been members here for about a year now and have enjoyed every sip of it!!!! We come tasting here about once per month and the staff at Savannah Chanelle is always VERY friendly and accommodating to our friends as we welcome them to the winery. David and Mike are so knowledgeable and have such a warm friendliness about them. They offer two tasting options one for $10 person and one for $15 person. Bring a picnic in the spring or summertime and enjoy the beautiful views of this gem overlooking the valley. Ten minutes from San Jose and you feel like 50 miles away tucked up in the mountains- this is amazing!

Gorgeous!
This winery is tucked away in a forest up in the mountains. It is the prettiest drive up here!
The tasting room is huge. The people who work here are awesome, especially the sweet lady who helped us...wish I could remember her name! She was totally fun to hang out with!
The wines were good. I really enjoyed their chardonnays. My friend and I both enjoyed our time here, and we both wish it was closer so we could go back more often!Listed in: The Adventures of Lil Wino., Road tripping up North

I love this winery. The people who work here actually love their job and talk with their customers. There is great live music and yummy mustards and crackers to enjoy actually made by the winery. In the past year I recently joined their wine club, which is completely worth it. They hold club member parties and have great pricing.

Originally heard of this place from a Trubates coupon I had purchased. Their website is not very informative but if you call in they will be happy to answer all your questions- they also informed me of a summer music series they have every summer- free concerts every Friday and Saturday from 5-7pm all summer long!
So of course had to go check it out- came with family and my 92 year old grandpa. Got there around 5:30pm and grabbed the last table in the seating area. Bringing your own picnic is highly recommended to enjoy with their wine.
What a beautiful place! I loveee how its right near the mountains and they did a really good job making the place cute and relaxing. The wine is very good too. We ended up buying TWO boxes of Pino Noir since it was 48% off. My grandpa truly enjoyed it as well and even got up for a few dance moves.
Really hope to be back sometime before the series is over end of September! -

I really want to give this place 3.5 stars, but since I can't do that it will get 3 stars from me.
I'm a member at this winery, so I go fairly often to take advantage of the free tastings.
The wines are usually pretty good, and the staff are usually very friendly.
Whenever they have a new shipment for members, they throw a release party- and that is my favorite part about this place. The parties are always really fun and cool to go to.
What I don't like about this place are the other customers. They often hog the bar space and make it nearly impossible for other people to get up to the counter to enjoy some wine. In my opinion, that's a major tasting room no-no...Here's a rule of thumb: If it's busy, and Savannah Chanelle is always busy, move away from the bar once you've received your sample so others may enjoy.
My main complaint with this place is I just think the staff here could do a better job of accommodating all customers- not just the bar hogs. -

I came here on March 26, 2011 and here's what I thought:
- Located right off Hwy 9 in Saratoga, CA
- Wines are okay, but a few were good.
- They have complimentary snacks, dips and shrimp which made this place so unique.
Definitely recommended for the experience and wine tasting too. -

What a beautiful little spot! After a quick hike over at Sanborn Park Balazs, Dan, and I decided to stop in and check out the Savannah Chanelle winetasting room.
As soon as we came through the barn doors we were warmly greeted by a young guy behind the tasting counter. At first I was surprised by his enthusiasm but soon realized that he recognized Balazs and Dan. David, the Assistant Manager of the Vineyard, is Hungarian too!
We sidled up to the bar. Since this would be Balazs and my first "official winetasting" I was a little nervous about proper etiquette. Worry not if it's YOUR first time, David is so nice and easy going he'll be sure to put you at ease. He explained all the wines in detail as the boys caught up about what they'd been up to since they last saw each other.
Here you can totally just relax and enjoy the live piano music, socialize, and enjoy your wine samples. I prefered the white wines over the red but all of them were pretty good to me. I don't know much about wine but fun experiences like this one definitely make me want to learn more. -

I've been meaning to write a review about Savannah Chanelle Vineyard for some time now. I accidentally stumbled upon this place for the first time last summer with some friends and I'm so glad that I did because this has now become my favorite winery.
The wines are amazing here. Some of the best tasting Pinot Noirs I've ever tried. The wines are a little on the pricey side, but if you sign up for their wine club you can purchase them at a discounted rate. I actually just became a member yesterday. I've never been a wine club member anywhere else before so this speaks volumes about how much I love this place.
The tasting room is located in a wooden building that looks like a barn. There's a walkway near the tasting room that takes you up to the top of this hill with an incredible view. There's an old building up there, not sure what they use it for, and behind it is the beautiful vineyard. There's also several chairs and tables up there so you can purchase a glass or bottle of wine and drink it outside. Sometimes they have live music up there as well so it's a great place to come and hang out for a while.
The staff who work here are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite would have to be David. Almost every time I've been here he's been working and he's always such a pleasure to be around. He works hard, is very sweet, and knows everything there is to know about wine.
I highly recommend this winery to anyone, especially those who love Pinot Noirs. This is a wonderful place and I promise that you'll really enjoy your wine tasting experience if you come here.Listed in: Exceptional Service

Ok, the wine is 4 stars. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Zin. The Rose is a phenomenal summertime wine, and my wife has her favorite wine here. The Chardonnay from 2008 is amazing.
The reason they get the bump is David. He's a great member of their wine team. Everytime that anyone has a question there, he's always willing to answer, bantering with customers about anything ranging from wine to history. He's what makes that winery for us and I'm hoping he's there forever! -

The grounds are soooo beautiful..... but tasting prices are expensive!! $10 per tasting session is too much for me, especially when there are cheaper tasting options nearby. I guess I'm cheap.
My husband took a bunch of beautiful pictures of the vineyards, trees, hills, fountain and buildings. The live piano playing was amazing.
It's definitely worth a trip. Go this weekend! -

My personality is centered around experiences. My overall experience is often more important than only the quality of the product a restaurant or business peddles. Savannah Chanelle Vineyard is a winery of experience.
The winery offers lush hills, and wonderful scenic views, perfect for large groups of friends and family. It's a great place to spend an entire afternoon with a large picnic basket, a few bottles of wine, and all of the kids your friends have. There's an attractive fountain, and plenty of hillside grass. Be sure to come when it's sunny and warm, and it would be impossible for your soul to not feel comforted and at peace.
The wine leaves a lot to be desired. It's been recently very inconsistent, and not worth the price they are charging. I find it hard to spend $40-60 on a bottle of wine that is just OK, considering that there are so many wineries here in California that produce truly exceptional bottles at the $40-60 price point. But there are a few here that we like to drink time and again (such as one of the Pinot Noirs).
But to get 4 hours of intimate and relaxing time with a large group of great friends, this is the spot, and worth the drive and the green. -

I am on a recent kick to goto the wineries down here in the south bay. I had no idea Savannah Chanelle even existed till my boss told me about it. Made the trip with some friends yesterday and we were pleasantly surprised.
Driving up to Savannah Chanelle, it was like you have quickly escaped the packed valley and all of a sudden were in the middle of the wilderness. The barn like looking tasting room had a very rustic feel. Inside the tasting room, there is a woman playing the piano. Live music? How nice! We ended up getting the premium tasting which included a mix of pinot, syrah, and cabernet franc. I was not a fan of the syrah, the pinots were quite good and the cabernet franc was good as well. Make sure you try toe 2007 gunsalus from russian river.
I guess my only complaint was that our server was a little overwhelmed. We came right before a big rush of people before closing and had to wait for our next pours. Otherwise, I like Savannah Channelle and would enjoy coming back. -

So I've been to quite a few wineries (Napa, Sonoma, SLO, Paso, Temecula, etc..), and this place has the friendliest staff by far, with a great selection of wines. For the casual wine taster, Savannah Chanelle (SV) has 2-different wine tasting menus, the normal tasting and the premium tasting, I think it was $5 and $15 respectively but I could be mistaken. They specialize in lighter reds (Pinot Noirs), but also have a decent selection of other wines including whites and dessert wines.
After my first visit I was so impressed by their wines I bought a case and signed up for the wine club. Something that I've never done before at any winery. However, their wines are great and are very reasonably priced. This is a great place to come with a date, or with a group of people.
Atmosphere: The tasting room is a barn-like building, with a handful of friendly staff willing to answer any wine questions or recommendations of neighboring wineries. There is also another building on the hill above the barn (wine tasting room) where you can buy a bottle/glass and head up there with your group for a more private tasting.
Wine: I would compare their wines to more pricey wines you'd find at BevMo for $60-90 a bottle. It's defnitely worth a stop here.
Price: One of the most reasonably priced wines I've ever seen. For a good bottle, expect to pay $20-40, but they also have table reds for even cheaper. If you end up joining the wine club, the prices drop significantly. -

I really enjoyed this winery in Saratoga. At first it was difficult to find because Cellular Signal is dead heading there so if you're thinking of using Google Maps on your phone, you better plan ahead and go old fashioned.
The location was surprising and they had great views. I thought the wine was also really really good. They were really good about being generous with their wine.
Have fun if you come, I did! -

Great winery with a beautiful view! Had a surprise bday event here - there were 11 of us that crowded the cracker/mustard sample table, and overtook the wine tasting area. People behind the counter were really nice, and kept the pours coming. The mustard samples were awesome.
Up the hill is a house where the bathrooms are located. Awesome views from here, esp during fall when all the leaves are fire colored. :) -

A little hard to find, but a great view when you get there. The Savannah Chanelle vineyard has the scenery to die for. A nice view out over San Jose (whether that is good or not....)
The place was busy when I was there, but the employees serving those tasking were very attentive and even gave more than we asked for with extra tastings/
Only negative were the abundance of fruit flies hanging around -

I know people are probably going to think that I'm when I say I like wine tasting since I'm 22 and people my age tend to be more fond of wine drinking caravans, but trust me, I know a decent amount about wine.
Went here a couple months ago and really loved majority of the wines I tasted. They had some of the best rose I've had in a long time, the guy working there was very helpful and didn't try to oversell, and it was extremely affordable (and they weren't too stingy with their wine either, which was nice). The really gorgeous grounds didn't hurt either.
Only downside, just a tiny bit hard to find. Very easy to miss the turn off the main road. -

Stopped by here yesterday on a spur of the moment first time trip on the "Los Gatos/Saratoga Wine Trail," and it was the only place we bought at or would return to. The grounds are beautiful, the wines are quite nice, and we loved that one of the pourers, Luke, took us on an impromptu tour of the place. Next time we will bring some friends and a picnic lunch.

Another completely fantastic visit to Savannah Channelle!
Mike generously poured for us and made sure we sampled the very best they had to offer. As usual, we walked away with a few cases of some of California's finest wines for an unbelievable value.
Thanks to Mike, we look forward to sharing a case of '06 Syrah port with friends...
Cheers and we look forward to the next visit! -

The tasting room reminded me of a potential horror flick: dark, dungeony, with creepy lurking vampires.
I had to make sure that the door wouldn't lock behind us.
Get this: the pourer did not greet us. Simply said, "It's a $10 tasting fee and you have to PAY NOW."
Sheesh, tactful much?
What happened to the loving spirit of having people simply enjoy and taste your wines instead of treating us like retail bait?
Didn't like the vibe, didn't like the From Dusk To Dawn vampire ambiance, and even though the wines were pretty decent, the customer service lacked social grace.
RECOMMEND the mustards. Try the aioi garlic! Awesome! -

Cozy, laid back environment for wine tasting.
Cost to worth it ratio: 3
Highlights:
- Atmosphere: like the quaint woody barny cabiny feel, as it made it a unique venue for wine tasting. Kinda felt like a hosted afternoon party in there.
- Piano player: interesting contrast for the relaxed surroundings and just a fun idea
- Nice staff
- Reds were good: particularly the syrah and zin.
Lowlights (my flip side to highlights):
- We poured the first 2 wines out--and that never happens with this crowd. :-O We didn't find the sparkling or the rose to be drinkable.
- Smaller space so got super crowded and saw empty glasses everywhere
I kinda of have mixed feelings about this place, so not sure if I'll be back or not but was good to try. -

I threw a little bocce and wine bash in celebration of my bf's birthday over the weekend. On Saturday we spent the afternoon with family and friends at Savannah Chanelle Vineyards where we'd set up and a tour and tasting followed by a picnic lunch and some boozy bocce ball on their beautiful grounds.
12 of us met in front of the tasting room for a private tour of their grounds and production facilities. Our tour guide, John, was just awesome. He was knowledgeable about the wine, production, and history of the grounds, had some funny stories he'd personally witnessed while working there, was very generous with his pours, and just all around the perfect guide for our group. Since we were celebrating a birthday AND we are wine club members we got to taste a few extras when we got back to the tasting room. In total I think we tasted 12 and were all super buzzed by the end. Didn't stop of from all purchasing a few bottles to enjoy with our picnic!
In case you're wondering, lunch wasn't included in our tour; it's something I threw together along with the bocce court which we constructed out of 4 cones (see link below for photos) and I brought a sweet bocce set I'd purchased from http://Amazon.com. I also got an app on my iPad called iBocce to keep score. Super fun way to spend an afternoon! And way more economical than Campo di Bocce.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This winery is quite a surprise! Good wines at affordable prices. Our pourer, John was probably the best tasting room staff I met that day. He was informative and personable, but not overbearing.
Surprising, the pinots stood out the most for me. It's easy for many wineries to overprice their mediocre-tasting Pinots because they are hip and trendy. S-C's '07 Pinot is earthy, unexpectedly complex, smooth, and balanced--nice lighter wine for a warm day.

Disclaimer: Note a wine connoisseur at all. I'm not even going to fake the funk here. I'm slowly learning, but not close to it. But I hear it's very subjective...
Anyhow, this was the last stop to a day of wine tasting in the Saratoga/Los Altos area. It was a great last stop! It was nestled away, up on a hill..so a bit remote.
I found the two pourers to be super helpful and super nice! Took their time to explain things to my gf and I and were just generally, very amicable people. Even poured two things NOT on the original wine list for tasting. Yum!
As you can tell, I'm not reviewing much on the wine itself. What really won me over was the pourers. Unlike every other place I visited on that day, they knew we were relatively rookies (gf knows way more than I), we look young and green to wine..I mean just by appearance. I just got that vibe from everywhere else; they really didn't make the effort to chat it up with us!
So as a result, we ended up buying a bottle from this place for dinner.
The vineyard itself was pretty cool. A lot of land up here, and several picnic tables out and about. A nice, gorgeous fountain can also be found. Something about going to a vineyard where you can walk, see, smell and just feel where the grapes are picked just adds to the attraction and allure.
I suppose I'd describe walking through an Apple, Foxconn manufacturer of iphones would be the same experience...minus the employees that are committing suicide. But it certainly hasn't stopped 2 million from buying the ipad (at the time of this review). Sorry, digression...but you get the gist. -
Review from Dave S.
Savannah Chanelle is a small vineyard located outside of Saratoga. Unfortunately the beautiful hilltop scenery does not make up for what are not very good wines. The Pinot is simply not drinkable. On a positive the Cabernet Franc is not half bad.
They did take good care of my large group and offered us a few extra bottles to take home. -
Review from Shanna K.
The boss was out of the office so, since it's close to my work, I decided to give myself a break the other day and take a drive up to Savannah Chanelle for a tasting. Shh, don't tell anyone. ;)
I was the only one there for a while and had a nice conversation with the gentleman pouring that day. He told me that they have a newer winemaker (from David Bruce) and are turning their focus to doing more Pinot's.. which should be fun.. and I tasted three, two of which I really liked.
They also had a nice Rose of Pinot (very refreshing), Syrah, Zin and Cab Franc to offer that day. Each were very good and I found most their wines to be really well balanced. So much so that I ended up joining their wine club that day. I'm not sure that I fully agree on some of their normal retail prices, but at the wine club prices they're quite do-able.
The Zinfandel plantings date back to 1910 here and the Cab Franc old vines story is quite interesting too....ask about it when you go in.
The grounds are lovely and I could see how it would get busy here on the weekends, so if you can... go in the middle of the day on a weekday. ;) Life is short.Listed in: The Wine of Santa Cruz

The Boyfriend and I ventured here under the advice of the gatekeeper at Mountain Winery a few miles away. We tried going there first but was notified it was closed due to an evening concert. So the guy told us to come here.
When you're going down Big Basin, it's located on the LEFT, so be careful not to miss the entrance!
The wine tasting is about $10/person for about 5-7 tasting. Depending on which wine guy you get, your tasting can be a droplet or almost half a glass of wine.
Overall, I wasn't super impressed with their wines. Out of the 7 we tasted, I thought 2 were gross, 2 were okay and 1 was decent enough that I would think about possibly drinking more of it. But, I am more of a white wine kinda girl, so keep that in mind.
However, they did have a couple of perks:
- Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7pm!
- Free gourmet mustard and crackers (I know, sounds weird, but they were delish!)
- Their property is amazing! Beautiful and oh so peaceful. The day we went, The Boyfriend and I just sat around lazily on white wooden benches under the shade of an apple tree in their grassy field next to the villa. Yeah. It was as amazing as it sounds. -

I forget how much I dig this little winery. I had a chance to rekindle the flame over the weekend as my friend's family was there pouring (their little semi monthly ritual) We bought a couple bottles and chilled outside on the patio while people watching all afternoon. The weather was amazing, the wine fantastic, and the company even better. Can you really ask for anything more?
If you haven't had a chance to hit this winery up take a special trip or stop by on the next Passport day.
They are running a special right now on some of their varietals... $280 or less per case instead of $800/case. -

! Not only is the wine pretty As others mentioned, this place is pretty and relaxing. If you go with a group of people, like I did with 12 other people, sometimes they'll pull you out to a rustic table area and do a private tasting for you. Also, we all liked David , who was nice enough to explain all sorts of questions we had. He kept us guessing from his nationality to the wine we were tasting, so it definitely wasn't boring.

Who knew there was a world-class tasting room this close to San Jose? Savannah Chanelle Vineyard was a huge surprise. I went here on a sunny Sunday and the place was slammed...could barely get a spot at the tasting bar. Once I did, I was thoroughly impressed.
Apparently, they get grapes from Monterey and Russian River, among other places, I'm assuming. Self described specialists in Pinot Noir, I liked their Russian River selection from '06. Not very much fruit...mostly earth from my palate. Good though. Apparently, they won some gold medal in San Francisco for their Pinot from another vineyard, so they know what they're doing.
What grabbed me was their Syrahs. I tried the '04 and the '05 Coast View Vineyard from Monterey. Loved, loved, loved the '04. Absolutely ready to drink now. Thick, carmelly, fruity, incredibly well-crafted. The '05 seemed like it would be better in a year, which surprised me that it was the same price as the '04. It would seem like they should charge more for the wine that has been aged more. I dunno. Regardless, I liked both.
They offered a syrah port as well, from the same vineyard. A little hard to transition from the juicy syrahs above, but I didn't hate it. A little chocolate would have changed everything. I mean, if you're going to the trouble to make a port, hook us up with a little chocolate to make it optimally enjoyable. I like port, so I was able to enjoy it, pretending that I was eating chocolate afterwards, so I can say that it's good.
Overall, a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great wines. Excellent wine crafters. Scenic spot, overlooking the southern Santa Clara Valley. I will definitely go back there to try their new releases. Do yourself a favor and drive fifteen minutes from San Jose to have a great enological experience.Listed in: In Vino Veritas

This winery is set in the sloping hills of the SC mtn foothills. You taste in a nice but rustic cabin. There is a beautiful hilltop villa or redwood grove where you can enjoy a picnic. The service has been good the past 2 times that I was there but it can get very busy on summer weekends.
I heard this place finally got serious about their wine and hired the winemaker that helped shape David Bruce. Accordingly, the quality of their wine has increased as has their prices.Listed in: Santa Cruz Mtn Wine

I loved the grounds ... but wasn't THAT impressed. I liked the Chardonnay and their Pinot Noir. (bought both)
I look forward to checking it out again and changing my mind on how I currently feel about this place.
The service was POOR. That was the only thing I disliked. They had all men working behind the bar...not the best idea ever. Some find it hard to multi task. HEY...it's a proven fact. :)
The piano is a nice touch. I will head there again on a sunny day very soon. -

My wife and I love this winery, in fact among all the great Santa Cruz Mountain wineries, it's the only one whose wine club we've joined.
They concentrate on reds and they do a great job with them. Their pinot noirs are always fantastic, with various levels of smokiness and fruitiness. In it's various appelations, this is my favorite variety from SCV. Their syrahs also excel, they are velvety and lucious and come from various coastal locales. They do have an estate Chardonnay which is great, light and yet slightly buttery with stonefruit notes. Also their estate Zin is a keeper. We've also greatly enjoyed their full-blooded Cabernet Franc and their Montmartre.
The tasting room is nice, and has a piano player which is perhaps the only way it exceeds the other local tasting rooms but driving up the driveway from Highway 9 really feels as though it takes you off the beaten path, especially when you consider how close to the town of Saratoga this place is. -

We've been to Napa and Sonoma numerous times. Admittedly, I love both. There is, however, something special about Savannah Channelle. On our first visit to SC, we spontaneously decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon. To our surprise, the tasting room was bustling with potential buyers while a pianist filled the space with music. We enjoyed our tasting with the help of the friendly staff and ruined our palates by tasting their fantastic mustards. From that first visit, we continue to explore the Santa Cruz Wineries. At each, I find myself comparing the atmosphere and the wine to Savannah Channelle. It is quaint. There is nothing pretentious about this place. It's all about the clients and the quality of the wine.
I've never taken a visitor who hasn't left with at least one bottle. It's the best of CA wine country....right in our backyard.Listed in: Impress the Guests
