Amazing Amazing Amazing! I was in SC for a wedding and as soon as my bride's maid duties were over my drunk ass needed to sober up and Saturn hit the fucking spot!

I had the Space Cowboy with fakin' bacon, mouth watering onion rings and che che che cheddar cheese! I'm a burger gal and THAT was a fucking burger. The craziest part--it was vegetarian!

Service was excellent--Derrik was his name. Very attentive, quick to share a laugh with you, talk music (murder city was the band of choice) and always had my water glass full! Vegan, Vegetarian, or Carnivore you'll find Saturn Cafe is your late-night friend on any occasion. So now all we need to do is get one of these places in the BAY AREA!

The jalapeno burger is great! It is spicy, and has breaded and fried jalapenos on it. so delicious and goopy.

The meals are less then 10 dollars, and they are filling. They sell santa cruz mountain brewery beer, even in pitchers to your table, which is cool. Service is good and nothing to complain about. Decor is cool, and the bathrooms are clean.

Open till 3 am to boot!

Some meth heads shot eachother at this corner recently though. In fact, every corner but the one Saturn is located on is sketchy.Smarmy bars accross the street, a liquer store, and a smarmy taco bell. All of the other establishments are full of swarmy people.

I'm sorry, but Saturn Cafe is far overrated. I've been eating here on and off since they opened in their Laurel St. location (2000something) and while it's not a bad restaurant, my "Meh. I've experienced better" is accurate.
Yes, it's cute and kitschy, and the tables and decor are weird and funky but that doesn't make up for the so-so service and overpriced food, which is good...but overpriced. The milkshakes are decent and they give you the extra in a metal cup, but I'm a bit of a milkshake connoisseur... and these melt into watery slosh too quickly to be worth the 5.25 they charge.
The servers are likely to forget about you and hopefully your silverware will be clean.
I don't know, maybe I just got burnt out on it in high school, but if I were downtown right now, Saturn Cafe would be low on the list of places I'd be excited to eat at.

The other night my friends and I went to the Saturn Cafe for dinner. I have heard that Saturn has notoriously bad service, but I have been there before and haven't had a horrible experience. Friday night changed that for me and I will not be returning to the Saturn again. The food isn't good enough for the price and for the horrible service you might receive.

It was a Friday night and it was busy. Since there were 6 of us, I can understand having to wait for a table. We waited a half hour until we were seated. The host was very nice, trying to find us a table without waiting all night. He was probably the only person that seemed relatively intrested in giving us a good dining experience.

The boys we were with were tired of waiting for a table, so they went to the bar and ordered two pitchers of beer and were drinking at the bar while us girls were sitting at the front of the restaurant waiting. Finally the nice host got us seated at a table big enough and told us we'd be helped shortly.

We all knew what we wanted and were hoping to order quickly. But again, it was busy, so we waited and were passing the time with our conversation. We realized after 20 minutes that our server still hadn't come taken our order yet. We flagged down a waitress and asked if we could order. She kind of nodded and walked away, withotu giving us much response. We decided if we had to wait 10 more minutes we would just leave and find something else open. Our waitress came up to us before those 10 minutes were up, but barely.

We all ordered our food and surprisingly got it faster than usual for this restaurant.

We ate our meals, but were never offered refilled, never checked on, nothing. This wasn't really a huge issue, but when it came time to get our check and our watress was out of sight, it got annoying. And when we asked another waitress if they could help us get our bill and had to wait another 15 minutes for them to sort it out, that's REALLY annoying.

We got the check and realized it was WAY too high for what we had ordered. Only 5 of us had eaten but the bill was for almost $70. Apparently they charged us for the beer that the boys had drank (and had already paid for) at the bar earlier. Luckily they still had the receipt to that.

One of the boys went up to the waitress to contest the double charge, with the receipt and the new bill in hand. He had to fight with them for about 5 minutes to take the charge off because they were claiming that we had ordered 2 more pitchers while sitting at the table. The only drinks we actually ordered at the table were water, coke, and a milkshake. Considering he had the receipt, it was ridiculous that they were giving us any trouble about it at all.

Also - they charged a 20% gratuity on top of everything. For the service they DIDN'T give us, I don't understand how they can think this is acceptable at all. I'm glad we noticed the auto-grat though and dind;t give them more.

The only reason I ever come in here is because it's right down the street from my house and open late.  Usually we're all drunk and someone suggests we go to saturn.  Otherwise, I would never set foot in here.

The service is TERRIBLE.
Once, my room mate failed to receive her order.  She talked to the waiter about it.  She was super polite and understanding about it, only to be told, "Maybe this just isn't the place for someone like you."
WTF?  Really?  How rude is that?
I've also been present where someone at my table didn't get their food until the rest of us were finished with our food and ready to leave.
Lame.
So yeah, this place really sucks in terms of service.
As for the food...it's basically super greasy diner food.  Some of it is vegan.  Whoo hoo.
I will give them that they have really tasty milkshakes.

I have been eating at Saturn for Y E A R S.

One of the best "fat kid" veggie/vegan places to eat around!  I say "fat kid" because if you are veggie or vegan you can truly just pig the h*ll out here.  Plus it is open late which is nice!

Even though the menu has changed over the years (as has the interior of the restaurant) the staff is always warm and friendly and sometimes "just as weird as Santa Cruz itself" which is what one of the old waiters said to me a few years ago.

The Fakin' Bacon Cheeseburger and the "turkey" club are all so so so yummy!  The creamy tomato soup is good on those chilly Santa Cruz nights too.  One of the ONLY places I've been that has fresh hibiscus coolers too (non-alcoholic), a little on the tart side but that is what I love about them.

Saturn is truly a unique place and even if you aren't a veggie or vegan, give it a chance!  I've taken some meat eating friends there and they loved it!  So don't judge a book by it's cover.....   :-)

Sometimes you just have one of those days and certain foods hit the spot. And for a spontaneous Thursday night trip to Santa Cruz, after freezing in the beach, etc--Saturn Cafe hit the vegetarian spot.

The food was definitely yum and the decor was, well, interesting to say the least. The waitstaff is of your run-of-the-mill Santa Cruz hippie/hipster niche, but they were friendly.

But I think the reason why Saturn Cafe gets 4 stars is because my meat-eating-i-love-animals-when-I-eat-it-i-am-full -of-testosterone-so-i-will-not-touch-soy SO actually ENJOYED his food. And that's props in my book.

Kinda pricy, but the grub was so worth it at the moment

SATURN I MISS YOU!

Since i've returned to southern california it's been tough because there's no Saturn-style place within an hours drive. There are a few great vegetarian places I frequent, but none that has this diner menu to it!

It was always nice when late at night people had the munchies and we could always depend on Saturns!

The two dishes that stand out in my mind are:
- Turkey Avocado Club
- GARLIC FRIES (ADD JALEPENOS)!! (I've gone on explorations for yummy garlic fries, and this one stands out the most!

Even my meat loving manfriend loves this place. Wish you were closer to me! I'm drooling right now thinking about the food...

I love going to Saturn Cafe. I've been here a few times and I can't remember what I've tried. But its fun going here on a date, last time I went w/ my boyfriend and about 10 of our friends after working at a show at the 418 down the street. So amazing. I'm the only vegetarian so I can totally pig out here. I had no idea my bf had been here before. He so scarfed his burger but I think he overloaded himself with buck sauce. But who can blame him? Its goood. I'm pretty sure I had the space cowboy burger w/ onion rings, bbq sauce and thin cut fries. Yea I did haha.

The only part that blows is buck sauce costs like 50 cents extra because we got A LOT of it :] Oh and they don't make the graham cracker shake anymore. I had no idea about it but my bf tried to request it. He's so cute, it made me go AWWW
Next time I'll try to remember what I got. I remember the brown rice pad thai and the fakin blt w/ avocado were yummy.

Having been told several times that this place is incredible, I took my vegetarian girlfriend out to supper one night.

I won't go into my opinion of the patrons or the decor, instead, I'll skip right to the food. I had some sort of peanut butter pad thai concoction that literally tasted like someone tossed a bunch of veggies, tofu, noodles and peanuts into a salad  bowl and hit it with melted peanut butter.

The apps we had were a spicy fried platter: the jalapeno poppers were awesome, as were the jalapeno bottle caps. garlic fries, wicked good.

Heathers taquitos, Im told, were lacking. She wasn't pleased.

BUT! They have RC Cola on tap. Take it as it is, but Im not going back.

Best Vegetarian food EVER!
On that rare occasion that i crave a burger THIS is my place. I will drive the 45 min over the hill just for Saturn's.
All of the burgers that I have had have been great! The griller patty tastes just like a beef patty (granted it has been awhile since I had one).  The Skinny french fries are great with ranch. The Milk shakes are AWESOME! Pretty much everything here is amazing!

Keep in mind they do charge for extra sides of dressing and the salads are kinda over priced. And they NEVER seem to have veggie Corndogs, but I'm not too upset since you can just get them at Trader Joe's.

I had a waitress her a few months back who was AMAZING! I'm sorry I forgot her name but if I see her there next time I will remember. She was absolutely hilarious and was joking around with our table. She drew a dog on our receipt farting (thank you)... we drew one back haha! I just think its cool that she would take the time. You can really tell when someone likes their job, and their positive attitude can really rub off on you. :]

So Saturn Cafe is a straight up Vegan/Vegetarian friendly restaurant. I have to say their menu has a wide variety of entrees and it's all really pretty yummy.

My only concern are the prices... It's a little pricey and the $35.00 that I put towards a meal for two could go to a weeks worth of burgers and fries. I guess that goes for any American restaurant, but the idea of paying $35.00 for burgers blows my mind and wallet.

Anyhow, the atmosphere is really cool, the servers are friendly, and they do have some pretty tasty vegi food. = )

I like their concept of being a vegetarian diner.  Though the health stance is a big part of being vegetarian, it doesn't automatically equate to being a healthy eater.  There are enough organic, natural, sprout serving restaurants out there for us veggies that it's a refreshing change to have a single place to pig out on fried, greasy diner food once in awhile.  Even with the many substitutions these days, they don't offer as many vegan options as one would hope (no soy cheese or vegenaise here, folks).

The turkey club with the chix patty really hit the spot.  The "chicken" meshed with the avocado and "bacon" and the gouda = heaven  between bread.  The thin fries were okay; I don't crave them here like I do at other places.  The portions are generous, and I ended up bagging almost half my meal, though, I did eat a bit beforehand.

I was put off by all the negative reviews regarding the service, but during my visit, other than it being slow to receive the check, the staff were otherwise friendly.  I was fortunate to not have been on the receiving end of a bitchy waitress, but I'm sure if you come back often enough, it's bound to happen.

The joint is all around kooky, definitely unique, with their futuristic theme.  Their bathroom says it all, split into two separate rooms:  one labeled "Robots", the other, "Aliens".  I can't say I didn't stand there for a minute trying to figure out which had male/female organs (how embarrassing to think of being found out in the Alien room, when you should've been in the Robots!).

Anyone who comes here thinking this is a regular meat serving establishment had too much to drink that night.  But I think a lot of meatmouths can enjoy the food here just as much as those of the more herbivorous variety.

Got the cream of tomato soup, and even the bread roll that came with it was delish!
I got that soup because it was recommended to me. Normally I'm not a fan of cream of tomato; it always turns out just a little on the boring side. But not here. It's fantastic!
I placed the order to go; I didn't eat in the restaurant. It was still hot and tasty by the time I got it home. Always a good sign...

Alright, so I was craving french fries and thought about this one drunken night when my friends and I came here for food. I liked their fries and when I saw Nacho Fries on the menu, I had to try it (sans black beans). I had such a fond memory for it, I thought I would just go there to satisfy my current french fries craving.

I was seated quickly and the service was nice. I was happy to find that they had half orders of it, since I wouldn't be able to finish a whole order by myself. A half order is huge. It is a whole meal in itself.

I can't believe they played Spice Girls "Mama." When it started to come on, it took me a second to recognize it and when I did, I just laughed to myself.

Up to this point, I would've updated my review to 3 (maybe even 4) stars, but after paying the bill, I am a bit annoyed.

The bill came up to $5.75 ($5.25, $0.50 tax). I paid $6 in cash (which I now regret doing, for one thing, I rarely have cash on hand, should've just saved it). I sat waiting for a while, longer than I would expect to get a quarter back for change. I readied a dollar bill in hand to tip once the server came back.

Now who is with me when I say that pennies are pointless? And what was my change? 25 pennies. How could a restaurant not have ONE quarter, two dimes and a nickel, or five nickels, and have the nerve to give me 25 pennies?!

The server asked if I had any place I could use those pennies. I said, I was going to buy cookies. She said, "Well, pay it forward." Pay what forward? Isn't paying it forward supposed to be good deeds? Counting out 25 pennies is annoying and a waste of time, hope they had fun doing it because I wouldn't wish that on anyone else.

Seriously, what in the world did I do wrong to deserve all these pennies? I was polite. I wasn't demanding. I didn't make a mess of my table. Did she think I wasn't going to tip her?

As she was leaving, she hesitated, turned back, and said, "Have a great day." Was that sarcasm or was she sincere? I couldn't tell.

I didn't use the pennies to buy cookies, because as I said, I wouldn't wish the misery of pennies on anyone. Now my wallet is fat full of change and I left the place with a bad taste in my mouth (haha, I just realized I used this phrase in the previous review).

Update: 08/25/09
The owner contacted me about my review. I was scared it would be a negative one like some Yelpers have been talking about in the Talk forums, but it was not so at all. He suggested I save up the pennies to donate to a non-profit (which isn't a bad idea). He was apologetic and he wanted to know who the server was, which seemed like he was going to do something about it. I appreciate that he actually cares about his restaurant and customer service.

He also offered to buy me another 1/2 order of Nacho Fries, which I thought was nice, but declined since I'm moving out of Santa Cruz at the end of the week (sad face).

So to be fair, and less petty about the pennies (though it really does kind of suck), I am adding a star. I really appreciate when an owner shows that they care about how their business is run. And I really did enjoy my Nacho Fries (kind of like carne asada fries without the meat, just potato-cheese-guacamole and all that goodness).

But just as a warning to all, as many other Yelpers have commented on, customer service from the servers can be a negative.

It appears to me that vegans are adverse to anything with flavor.

Eating here made me want a rare porterhouse steak, mashed potatoes topped with tons of cheddar and bacon, foie gras, veal, and a white russian (with tons of half and half).

My sister took me to Saturn Cafe after one of those days that just kept going and going and going....

I think that dried pencil shavings would have looked good enough to eat, but the Saturn Cafe totally overwhelmed me with a huge menu of completely meatless goodies.  I am not vegetarian, but I do like lots of veggies on a menu.  There were so many tasty-looking options, I had a hard time deciding what to order.

I finally settled on a "space cowboy burger" which included a high-quality bun, lettuce leafs, fried onion rings, "fakin' bacon", "erzatz burger, cheese, barbecue sauce.  The burger was big and tasty.  I splurged 2.99 of my sister's money to replace the plain fries with sweet potato fries.  They were very tasty.  My sister's guacamole burger came with a ice-cream scoop of guac that was studded with tomato bits.  Her fat fries looked tasty.  The whole meal was very tasty and satisfying.

The decor is funky space/fifties with the booths having some really unique table tops.  One of the best parts were the cute waiters/waitresses who were efficient in a 1950's serving manner.  Out water glasses were never empty and we got called "dearie" and "ma'am".

I enjoyed my meal, would go back again, enjoyed the people watching and the funky theme.  The only reason I knocked down a star is 2.99 is just too much for the sweet potato option.  :::sigh:::.  but in the long run, worth every penny.

I am so glad I called my sister for dinner reccomendations the other day! My friends wanted to go to the beach so I thought back to when I used to visit her when she lived here and the places we would go by. I never had eaten there but she suggested it and we had my friend Matty with us who adheres to veganism but isnt a jerk about it. The booth we sat at had a table with a clear top and a compartment full of decorations, this one had a gloved hand and some flyer about safe sex;  amazing! Lisa kept checking out this couple of lesbians sitting behind us and a group of lgbt teens walked in later on and had a meeting. truly amazing. The burger I had was probably the best burger I have had within the last 9 months and didnt have a stitch of meat in it. How is that for uncanny? Also, I think we had a lady named Carolyn for a server- she was fantastic.

I really like this place! The decor is wonderfully whimsical (glitter, Saturn-shaped lamps) and their menu is eclectic. Their food is decently priced for a diner (maybe slightly higher than the avg diner, but probably because they are using more expensive ingredients).

I'm definitely a carnivore, so I was apprehensive to Saturn (it's a vegetarian/vegan diner), but I was not disappointed. I've had a burger and breakfast sandwich there, both of which contained veggie patties that tasted shockingly like meat. Delicious, yes, but not really healthy - so don't be tricked into thinking a vegetarian/vegan diner is going to be full of things that are good for you!

Both times I've been there, the service has been prompt and friendly. In my experience, the wait staff have seemed easy-going and eager to be helpful.

I was relieved to see that other reviewers on Yelp were perplexed by the Robots/Aliens bathrooms. I took the Aliens key from a man exiting the bathroom and just kind of hoped I was going into the right one.

The first time I went to Saturn's, I was terrified of the food quality because of what the diner looked like.  It looked a bit trashy and too whimsical for my taste.  I was not aware that it was a vegetarian burger joint until I saw their menu.  The friend that took me there has been going there for quite some time and he was not even aware that the burgers he ate were vegetarian.

Now that you know my story, I have to say that Saturn's is pretty amazing!  I typically order the BBQ Burger --it really does taste like a real burger and that still surprises me until this day!  Onion Rings are a must for me and they do make some darn good ones.

I also ordered the Baked Potato Soup with Smart Bacon and that was delicious!  The Smart Bacon tasted exactly like real bacon!

I've tried their omelets before and it didn't impress me at all.

The wait here can be a bit too much to bare with...  It can take from 10-30 minutes of a wait.  This place is pretty packed in the evenings to the wee hours of the night.

The type of people who go here are hipsters, college students, and punk rockers.  It's a lot of young people...

There's parking in the lot behind Saturn's near the FedEx and there is also street parking.

Saturn Cafe is my dream come true.

As a vegetarian, and sometimes pescatarian, it's a challenge to select something that is healthy, vegetarian, and appetizing at many restaurants. However, the challenge at Saturn is to actually pick something because all their vegetarian-friendly foods sound delicious!

I'm a huge fan of their taquitos and chili cheese fries (since it's hard to find ones of the non-meat variety) as well as their "out-of-this-world" decor. The best thing about Saturn: it's a great place to fulfill your drunk, or not-so-drunk munchies till 3am.

Vegetarian foods, tasty beers, and pinball oh my!

Landed here after a day getting blown around on the beach in Bonny Dune.  Needless to say, beverages were a first order of business, and our appetizer (a huge plate of fried vegetarian deliciousness) came out 2 minutes after our beers got to the table.

We got 4 different sandwiches for taste testing purposes, and were thoroughly pleased with variety of flavors, textures, and sauces that came on each.

Also: vegan milkshakes!

The pinball game was a good way to merge back into walking mode after eating too much food.

Excellent service, excellent food, excellent coffee, great decor.

What more can I say?  This place was great.  If you are into good, strong fresh ground coffee, they have it.

I ordered the greek salad and it was very tasty.  The others in my party all liked the food even though none of us are vegetarians.  If I could eat at Saturn Cafe every day, I'd convert to vegetarian!

What a great experience!  Highly recommended!

Saturn is the best.  We go there a couple of times a month, and the wait staff treat us like family.  It can get kind of loud, and sometimes it takes a while to get our food - but other times it's speedy.

Anyway, they have the best food.  Fries are awesome, their salads are the best - especially the Spartacus.  They've shrunk the menu a little bit over the last year though - it would be great to see a few new creations.

I'm just gonna go out and say it: this place totally sucks. I can't tell you how many people have ranted and raved about this place, although, most of those people have been omnivores and therefore have bad taste in food. Just kidding.

But really...this place? Really? My cat could cook anything on the menu, and she has down syndrome. Also, barely anything's vegan, including the fake turkey, bacon and whatnot. Is it not strange when pretend meat has other animal things in it?

Anyways, two stars for the very kind staff and for being open late.

Back when I lived in San Jose and drove to Santa Cruz for the day or weekend I always made time to stop at Saturn Cafe. I may be a carnivore, but I still love to see proof that vegetarians can eat similar greasy, unhealthy food to the meat-eaters of the world. There are lots of tasty veggie burgers, salads, and other types of vegetarian and vegan food to be found here at reasonable prices.

The main reason I love this place, other than the originality, is the vibe. It's hard to describe, but Saturn is just really eclectic and hippie-ish, with a feeling of "I did it my way!" It's hard not to love a restaurant with such cool, funky decor that is incredibly proud of being a little different. All the servers I've had have been fun and helpful in an offbeat way. Oh man, review is making we want to drive to Santa Cruz...

Saturn cafe is not on the best side of downtown, but I think it fits best where it is. The restaurant has a grunge feel to it inside and out. I never feel like it is completely clean when I eat there. The bathrooms are so disgusting, I doubt they are ever cleaned.

The service is a hit or miss. Sometimes I really have a good experience with an attentive waiter who I relate to, but other times I feel so neglected and my order is missing things that I've asked for. For example, I ordered a salad (can't remember which one) and it didn't come with onions so I wanted some added. My salad came without any onions. It took almost 20 minutes to get a side of onions in an empty restaurant. I practically finished my salad before they finally came.

The burgers are fantastic. I am not a vegetarian, but I do eat veggie burgers all the time. The burger with the jalapenos is the best in my opinion. The food as a whole is on the greasy side, but the milk shakes are to die for.

Parking is easy in the lot behind the restaurant, but I always feel like there are drug deals going on walking from my car to the restaurant. There are people who just hang out behind the restaurant and sometimes I don't feel comfortable walking alone.

A plus is that the restaurant is open late (till 2 or 3 AM) so I usually go there for a study break with friends.

Saturn cafe is a lactose intolerant's safe haven with so many soy options!!

After getting the kid moved into the house for another year at UCSC it was time to get feed. He choose the Saturn Café. When we arrived we were greeted and seated right away. The place is very colorful and a lot of the customers & wait staff had colorful hair and tattoo's. Our waiter was very cool and while the wife was very slow at making her food decision, he did offer to massage her feet. A nice touch but she passed. I checked the iphone Yelp app and saw the Cowboy Burger & Tuno Melt were mentioned a lot. The kid and I ordered the Cowboy Burger and the wife had the Tuno Melt. The wife & kid ordered Cherry Cokes. I asked if they had Chocolate Cokes. The waiter said no, but he would try and make one. The beverages came out and the Cherry Cokes had about 5 - 8 maraschino cherries in it. The Chocolate Coke had a lot of chocolate in it. I was happy and it came with a side of whipped cream and chocolate chips. Can't get any better than that!
The Burgers were huge, griller patty, fakin' bacon, tomato, bbq sauce onion ring and tons of fries. The wife was happy with the Tuno Melt, it tasted like the real thing. For a vegetarian meal it was really good. We left stuffed!

Saturn Cafe's originality in having a late-night, vegetarian, vegan friendly American dinner is worth the rave. The cafe's appeal to younger, trendier "hipsters" is amusing.

Great portion on their milkshakes. Two guys sharing 1 milkshake will not lower your manhood. Steak fries are tasty childhood satisfaction. The patties were juicy, not too fatty.

Thank you, Saturn Cafe for creating a vegetarian friendly burger joint.

THe service fcking sucks balls here!! the people think they're the shit and they're hella scene but really they're not! they're super rude and think they're too cool to serve you. however the food is actually pretty good for diner food. I've tried the burger (forgot which one) and the fries and it is really tasty! esp since it is vegetarian, I couldn't even tell because it was just a realy good burger and fries! the fries are boommbbbb!! but i hate the people who work there.

This is one of the coolest late-night spots I've been to. Everything is vegetarian. The space is kitschy and has amazing people watching. The waiters are nice. The veggie burger (grill style) was really yummy. I would so recommend going. I love the space - round and very themed.

This is a 4 star CAFE/DINER.

I have to be honest- I've probably given other restaurants with better food less stars than I'm giving the Saturn Cafe, but there is just something about this place that is fun as hell. The zany planet atmosphere. The tables with incredibly weird themes. The waitress with piercings all over her face. The toilets in the restrooms which are super trippy. The fact that almost all the food here is either Organic or Soy. This place is just a good time...

This is the first place I ever tried Eggs Benedict(of as they're called at the Saturn Cafe, Heavenly Benedict) They were freaking awesome. They came with potatoes and I loved em'. My Girlfriend got a turkey sandwich... and that was bomb too. Something in there, either the turkey or the cheese... organicy or soyish... i don't know, but it tasted good- and the FRIES were AWESOME.

I'm giving it 4 stars because it's more of a place you have to check out rather than eat at. The food was great, but this place certainly isn't the best restaurant on earth... What you get here is great organic cafe food, super friendly service, and a new experience.

This place captures a friendly diner feel with the weirdness that is Santa Cruz, and i would love to come back.

The Saturn Cafe is the place my friends and I go when we've got something to celebrate... Like all of  us having $15 at the same time!!! Woohoo!! Yeah, we're students at UCSC so those tuition fees are bleeding us dry and where can we forget our debt and drown our sorrows in delicious veggie food? SATURN!

The staff are young alternative Santa Cruz folks that are incredibly friendly and hardworking. There's a jukebox in the restaurant so we like to load it up with our favorite music and sing in our booth to work up an appetite before dinner. Basically, Saturn is a place where table manners aren't all that important. Don't make a mess out of respect for the waiters, but let loose and have a good time.

Now, on to the food: yum. The best vegetarian diner I've ever been to. (And perhaps the only... but that's not the point.) From their house-made soy burger patties to their warm delicious mac-n-cheese. Mmmm this place has got the flavors of the plant world down to an art. My favorite burger is the Space Cowboy, but I haven't been disappointed with any of them. Also! CHOCOLATE SHAKES OF DELICIOUS DELIRIUM. Or so I call them. You can also get creative and ask for a unique shake (once a friend had a peanut butter berry shake that she absolutely loved. the chef was impressed with her creative mind and came out to thank her for making her day less boring.) to satisfy your cravings.

I'm not a vegetarian (anymore), but I still love this place! Meat-eaters, give it a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This place is actually pretty cute! It's so sparkly, and pink! I love it. Anyway, the food was great! I ordered a TunO Melt and the bread was awesome... tuna was awesome... servers came right on time when my glass was almost half empty... but the only thing I don't get is the restrooms! There's one that says "Aliens" and "Robots" I wasn't sure which one was for men or women! I was thinking.. ok, Robots might be an employee bathroom since they do things over and over... Aliens would be us... but it didn't make sense until a girl came out of Aliens and handed someone a key... hmm... I went in, took my piss... and then BAM! There's a dude in my bathroom. LOL! I so didn't get it. Oh well, I would definitely come back sometime again!
