Every time me and the wife dine-in for dinner is a Winner! Love the appetizers, main courses and Drinks!
Usually we start with a nice fresh salad, and stuffed mushrooms. for Dinner we always switch in between Steak or Sea Food. What ever mood usually the "wife" is in I go along (:

Of course along with a nice long island and their wonderful choice of Draft beer selections!
Services is A+ Fast, Quick and Ready!
I would recommend "nights" are best. I would go back every chance I get.

The serrano, cilantro mussels they had are the bomb!  If they have em.. get em. They rock!

Serivce was great in taking care of us.  This place is old school.  I went to the steak house side.   Not the new sushi area to the right.

The steaks were cooked properly and again, the mussel appetizer was just awesome.

This place is an old school place. Its not fancy, its not new and it is darker.  The food we had was really good.  Pricing is average for a steak house.

I don't eat meat, only seafood so I had the calamari. Slightly overdone but still tasted pretty good. Actually my friends and I all agreed that they tasted a bit like mozzarella sticks.  Also had steamed clams. Tasted fresh and delish!
Friends got Filet's which were HUGE and rare, topped with grilled mushrooms and onions. Came with steamed veggies and mashed potatoes. If you like filet, this is the place to go.
    Decor is outdated but cozy.

Was pretty impressed with this place. A nice cozy little restaurant near the beach. Not fancy, family owned, and one of the oldest restaurants in San Diego, over 50 years+.  I recommend their filet stuffed with bleu cheese. It's incredible. Wrapped in bacon, stuffed with mushrooms and bleu cheese and covered in a red wine sauce. Just mouth watering.  So delicious. Really is, and I'm not a huge meat eater. The homemade mac & cheese is some of the best I've ever had. Great blend of cheeses. Very tasty.  First time there and loved everything. Great specials too. 2 steak dinners, appetizers, soup, and a bottle of wine for $60.  The decor is old and dated, so if that matters to you, you may want to go elsewhere. Overall, this was a great place. Wonderful service, our waiter was funny and attentive. Next time I'm in San Diego, I'll be back.

Our family really enjoys this place. I love the basic dinner salad with the homemade Italian dressing, the bread, the clams, the steaks are really delicious for the price, & the service. Also, they have reasonable prices on good wine.
Oh, during the week they have some coupon for a buy one get one entree free & great specials.

Trust me...order The Duke and you'll be a happy camper.  It's a great steak and will fill you up with your belly smiling.  I'm craving one right now.  Afterwards, go for a stroll on the boardwalk near the ocean to walk it off.  The ambiance shows how long this place has been around for.  Lots of locals and good times to be had with friends & family.

Take the advice of Anthony Bourdain, do not order the "fish special". It is the old stock they are trying to get rid of.

And the decor- very old 1960's ambiance. I sank so far into the booth, my chin was on the table, I felt like a five year old.

What they have going for them is a personable attentive staff and really large portions. With 1700 restaurants in the San Diego area, I would never go back to Saska's.

I have been hearing about Saska's for about 6 months now. I finally went and will def. go back more often. The food was mouth watering and by far the best steak I have ever had .  I had the Tornadoes of beef  with mushrooms and a Bearnaise sauce on top and the meat was so tender and the Bernadine sauce was the perfect touch.  Atmosphere was...cozy, very home feeling, not a stuffy fancy steakhouse.
    I definitely recommend.

This place is supposedly a 50+ year mission beach institution and  definitely has been around for 50 years as the decor probably hasn't been updated since it opened.  The place is dark with carpet floors and has that old bar/restaurant smell to it.

The appetizer portions were good, but nothing spectacular.  Chicken fingers that were dry and heavily breaded, onion rings, and a steamed vegetable plate with a lot of cheese melted on top.

However, the entrees were decent and large portioned - the blackened sea bass had good flavor and was still moist and flaky , but the sides that were pretty basic with garlic mashed potatoes that seemed like a combination of mix-made with some potato chunks thrown in to make it seem homemade.  Others at the table had the crab leg special (nothing to write home about) and the filet which was well cooked.

3 stars as decent for beach-town food and good service, but would not recommend if your looking for a special place for dinner a dinner date or nice atmosphere.

    I love this place...its great!

I usually sit on the sushi side, so keep that in mind.

I used to live right near Saska's, so I went there all the time. The people are great and the servers have always been super friendly. I don't go there as much anymore, because I moved, but still drop in from time to time.

I recommend the hot green tea...scallops a la Saska's...sushi pizza...crunchie roll. I could eat those every day.

The music here is always great...if you are into classic rock, and they always have a game on the TV.

    Good job Saska's!

Oh, I almost forgot. They make this desert...WOW...its tempura cheese cake with peach ice cream...TDF! Makes my mouth water.

    Saska's = Happiness.

I always hit this place up when I want to watch a game (like monday night football for example) and i'm not feeling the normally hectic crowds at the beach. Last night I was able to belly up here and have a relaxing evening while watching football and sippin on a margi..yeah it's okay to be jealous!

I recommend their filet stuffed with blue cheese. I mean, really, it's delicious. Normally I'll just order an appetizer or two, but when I do feel like going all out for dinner, their steaks never leave me unsatisfied. And I love my red meat!

I got the level 2 margarita last night and wow, they were strong and cheap (happy hour special). At the end of my second one, I was actually enjoying watching the Patriots win...so that says something right there.

Definitely worth checking out, the Saska family is awesome and the service is always good. Bartenders are great too!

I'm a local and eat at Saskas at least once a month.

The ambiance is cozy especially in the bar booths. In the winter ask to sit by the fireplace! Meals come with a basket of warm garlic toast and choice of a salad or soup. Try the soup! The seafood chowder is delicious. I usually get a king crab crowned steak with garlic mashed potatos but the Saska Burger and fries is swell too if you want finger food.

I've had different fish there over the years and am kind of finicky so they've done a good job keeping my taste buds happy.  The fish and chips are tasty for lunch.

Their bar is well stocked and busy with 30somethings and up but I don't drink so couldn't really offer an opinion.

They've always got a group waiting to get seats after dark especially on weekends but its never taken too long. I can walk from my house but there's valet parking out front if you need it.

I've eaten at Saska's many time and have taken friends over the years who have always enjoys it..The Saska bleu steak is there special and it is always mouthwatering with blue cheese and spinach piled on top. The lounge is exactly what I like, a big lit up busy bar with big screen TVs always showing sports. The servers have always treated me friendly and my drinks from the bar are never weak. The decor is very 1960s but hey its the beach and Saska's has been here since the 50s so if you want a downtown joint with a bill to match go downtown. If you want great food and service GO! Don't worry about parking, just pull up and let the valet take your car. After you eat you can walk 1 block over to the boardwalk and watch the sunset :)

I think one of the my favorite taste thrills is Filet Mignon and Bleu Cheese...  and to date - Saska's has THE MOST INCREDIBLE Bleu Filet EVER!   Wrapped in bacon, stuffed with mushrooms and bleu cheese and covered in a red wine sauce... my mouth is watering just thinking about it - and it's only 9:30 in the morning!

If you're not a bleu fan... the rest of the menu works it's magic on your appetite too... best known for their steaks it's apparent why.  It is the best part of Saska's.

The perfect ending to a perfect meal? A walk on the beach, which is right around the corner.

I love steak, I'm a Texas girl what can I say.

If I want a good steak and don't feel like cooking it myself, I love to go to Saska's.  They also have sourdough toasted bread that's to die for.  The atmosphere is good for a first date or dinner with a few of friends.

I could go on and on, but I would make myself hungry.

Cozy little spot, great steaks and friendly service. We ate here for our anniversary and when we first arrived I thought we were off to a bad start because they had no reservation for us even though my husband had called a week earlier. But, the hostess was super friendly and told us not to worry, she'd get us in, and she did--quickly too!
You can tell the place has been there forever--60 years, in fact--and that it's a favorite among the locals.  Lots of people at the bar and crowded dining room.  Wood walls and ceilings with lots of little xmas lights everywhere, dark red vinyl booths and dark wood tables--definitely a little dated and nothing fancy, but I liked it because it felt unpretentious and comfy.
We started off with the oysters rockefeller appetizer.  Oysters were on the small side, but the flavor was good and the bread crumbs and bacon bits baked on top were nice and crunchy.
Steaks were great.  Not overpriced, good portions, and with each dinner you get a choice of side dish, soup or salad, and bread.  Really nice to have all that included instead of having to pay separately for those a la carte items, which seems more and more common these days.  About $25 per dinner which is reasonable for steak.  I had the tournadoes of beef, it had mushrooms and a bernaise sauce on top and the meat was so tender, I almost didn't need a knife to cut it.  My husband had the bleu filet, which was rich and amazing--stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped in bacon.  Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.  He was quick to give recommendations when we were debating what to order and I love when a server will be honest with you and tell you exactly what is good instead of telling you that "everything" is good.
Again, nothing pretentious here, just a nice spot with some good steaks, washed down with a nice bottle of Markham cab.
Wish they would have thrown in a complimentary dessert because our server knew it was our anniversary, but we were pretty full by the end of the meal anyway!

I wasn't overly impressed with this place, after all the hype it was kind of disappointing.  I realize it is a Mission Beach landmark, but for the menu prices I felt like you should get more... more of what I'm not sure, but more.  Case in point is the salad they served before our meal, lettuce, 1 tomato and a few croutons... I would hardly call that a salad.  I ordered a shrimp pasta dish and was sad when it arrived with baby shrimp, I'm talking 125-175 size. I was hoping for some nice 41-50's.  Anyway, the service was great, our waiter was attentive, friendly and helpful.  And since I love the 70's I enjoyed the decor.

Probably wouldn't go back unless someone else is paying.

The sushi on the other hand is a totally different story!

A friend and I called to order some burgers for pick-up tonight. Billy, who answered the phone was extremely friendly and fast. Not only did the meal come with the burger and choice of fries/rice/etc. etc., it also came with soup or salad.

When we arrived, the staff was really friendly and attentive. Each staffmember who saw us asked if we had been helped while we were waiting for our order. It was ready right on time.

Got home, the salad was fresh and crisp. None of that cheap iceberg lettuce that you might expect. The vinaigrette dressing was very good. My only complaint is that the salad lacked tomatoes; just a personal preference. The burgers were just a tad overdone. We had ordered medium, and they more like medium-well. Fries were good.

All in all., a really good experience. The place was also really clean inside and had a fun vibe.

I know Saskas is known for the steak and seafood in the restaurant part of the place, but to be honest, I go here for the sushi bar.

Fresh sushi, made to order, with creative rolls.............hmmm what else is needed in sushi, really?

Try the Saska roll, it is tempura fried, with unagi, cream cheese and avocado, with this amazing sauce on top.............if you add a side of eel sauce and dip the roll into that, you have gone to heaven!  Other great rolls are the: Mission Beach Roll and the San Diego roll.  Don't forget to look at their specials board, they make great specials too!

Everything is super fresh, the place is clean, and the waitresses are sweet.  If you sit by the window you can also people watch.

Regarding the steak/seafood part of the restaurant.  I'll be honest, ever since I have eaten at Ruth Chris, nothing has compared (well maybe the Strip Club and you'll know why when I review it).

The only type of steak I really love is the rib eye.  Though I also have never turned away a steak on my plate.  I honestly can't remember what I had there last time...............it was good though because I don't have any ill feeling towards my experience there.  I just remember eating alot, being full and content.  Just so you had my 2 cents.  You may be better off though if you want to read a review on the steak and seafood part of the place, to read someone else's review or to go there yourself and check it out.  I can only vouch with 100% certainty that the sushi rocks!

Saskas was a very pleasent surprise.

I took my boyfriends parents here while we stayed at my spot in Mission Beach and without every eating here, I couldn't have made a better decision on where to take the rents.

I had made a reservation after yelping restaurants in Mission Beach. I knew that a steak and seafood place that also catered to the sushi eating crowd must be worth a try. And indeed it was.

Thank goodness for the reservation because upon entering a very crowded Saska's at 7:00, we were seated right away, no questions asked just "follow me miss." My boyfriends parents really like that :)

And the food was excellent as well. Mom got the Filet Mignon with Blue Cheese and mushrooms (the creative title escapes me at the moment) and my boy ordered the Shark Steak which was cooked to perfection. So was the Filet I might add. I opted for the sushi and ordered the Mission Beach Roll and a Crunchy Roll. The Mission Beach, consisting of Ahi Tuna, cucumber and avocado was perfect. Just had the right little kick of wasabi nestled inside. However the crunchy roll wasn't that great. I've had better. But the Mission Beach roll compensated greatly for what the crunchy was lacking.

Overall, this was a great place. Wonderful service, our waiter was quick and attentive. Next time I'm back at the beach house, I will be visiting Saskas's for sure.

Terrible service. What food we got was good but the service was inexplicably bad. Seven of us went in at 5pm on Sat. night, and the place was empty. It looked like a Red Lobster circa 1970. Our first waitress took our drink order & disappeared. Second waiter delivered our drinks & eventually took our food order around 5:30-5:45. We got our appetizers around 6 or so.....sauteed mushrooms and fried mushrooms. They were good I suppose. At 6:25 we still did not have our entrees....30-45 minutes of waiting with no explanations from the waiter if we could ever flag him down.

We asked for our food to go because we were on a schedule. The waiter apologized but then went to wait on other tables (?). Finally, when we got up to leave, we got our food at 6:30 as we were leaving. I still can't believe we paid for the food, but oh well. I might understand if they were slammed, but the place was never half full (maybe now I know why) and we saw waitstaff and cooks outside yapping as we were leaving.

I was so upset that I didn't eat my entree. A few people in our group said their shrimp was good but definitely not worth the price. Maybe I'll give them another try next time I'm in San Diego with three or four hours to kill for dinner.

For a beach joint, this place tries to appear to be something that it is not - a classy steak joint on the beach.

Small, overpriced cuts of meat but they have a good hamburger for only 9.99 and it comes with fries - not bad. The garlic mashed potatoes and garlic bread are decent. The seafood is probably better then the steaks if you can afford it.

Two words-Blue Filet. Amazing!! I love blue cheese and Filet, but Filet stuffed with Blue cheese, love it! So obvi, that is what I would always order here. If I hadn't had it for a while, I would start to crave it. Blue filet, mashed potatoes and it came with a garden salad -I liked to mix the honey blue cheese and the Real Roquefort. Because I am crazy like that...

Since I moved to the East coast, I haven't been to Saska's for a while, but I still crave the blue filet, and have tried to order it at other places, but "nothing compares, nothing compares, to you..."

I'm not a steak eater so I don't know if I'm really qualified to review this place, but I'm going to do it anyway. I have never been impressed with any of the dishes I got here which is why I'm not sad that I'll never be going back. It's not the food that will keep me away, it is the horrible service we received one 3rd of July a couple of summers ago.

A large group of us went for dinner and this is how it went down.

15 minutes after being seated: Server finally took our drink order.
30 minutes after being seated: finally received our drinks (ordered a second round)
45 minutes after being seated: placed dinner order
75 minutes after being seated: received second round of drinks
**Still have not received waters and no one has come to check on us or apologize for the wait**
105 minutes after being seated: we decided to leave as it should not take almost 2 hours to serve 12 people.
On our way out the door the owner was screaming at us asking "what the Fu*k we thought we were doing." Literally swearing and throwing a fit blaming it on the fact that they were short staffed. Who doesn't schedule enough people July 3rd in Mission Beach?! Duh.

I still feel a little guilty for leaving when our food was "almost ready," but we were hungry and pissed off and paid for the stuff we did get (two drinks).

Don't let this review be a deterrent however, we had a bad night. I'm sure it's not always like that, but it was enough to make me NEVER want to go back.

    PS No atmosphere.

Here I go again singing the praises of "Old San Diego Style Restaurants". These restaurants take me back to the seventies. I love to reminisce of yesteryear. My main reason for picking Saskas is their 1000 island dressing, I don't eat it anywhere else but Saskas. I like when my salad is served very cold and crisp, Saskas has never disappointed me. My husband and myself ordered the salmon crowned (topped with crab), we both commented that the chef knows how to cook fish. It was very tender, full of flavor, and flaky. We have one of those discount cards, the VIP card. We opted not to use it we know how this crappy economy has effected the restaurant business and their food was worth every penny we spent.
The service was top notch. I like when people who are not even your server see you need attention and don't hesitate to come by and see what you need.

Good flavor, BUT both meals were lukewarm at best, the Saska and Petite steaks were not tender and the service was very slow - at one point, our waiter looked lost bringing an order out to another table.  If the Saska is the steak they are known for, we must have had an off night.  I could do much better with a cheap piece of dead cow from Vons and a grill, and do better than what they offered.  On the positive side, the crab chowder is good.

I used to go to Saska's on a fairly regular basis, 30+ years ago, and walking in yesterday, NOTHING has changed.  It's still the same old, dark woodwork from the 70's.  If they're around in another 30 years, we may go back, but certainly not any sooner.

Nice place, comfortable booths, fireplace.  Sometimes a 2 for 1 coupon in the Reader.   On the website is a coupon for $12 off the second entree.

I like the "Saska" top sirloin at $18.  Nice char, and pink middle on a medium rare.  Good sides.  Check the weekday specials - i.e $8.95 pork chops (2).

Use the valet parking or you will be hatin' before you even look at a menu.

Great food! My husband and I love this little spot in Mission Beach!
The Blackened chicken fettucine alfredo is AWESOME and the specials are great too! A good spot late night or for dinner, and also good to watch the game in peace. Good bar drinks, low-key crowd, family owned business -- FANTASTIC!!

Anyone who was ever a young adult in San Diego, crawling the pubs of Pacific and Mission Beach has probably run across this staple of late night dining. The late night carnivore will not be disappointed as its specialty steaks and chops are consistently good and cooked exactly as ordered.  A variety of pasta, fish and other entrees are available and generally well executed but it is first and foremost a steakhouse.. If the vegetarian in your party has not run screaming from the sight of all the seared mammal flesh going by  the table there are a few items for her too.
The bar is cozy and tends to cater to a slightly older neighborhood clientele. A decent pour and a comfortable place to wait which you probably will have too. I have never been here during regular hours or early evening but its a great place to finish the party.

Parking is Mission Beach abominable but it's worth the effort to find a spot or better yet use the valet. If you have been drinking leave your wheels where ever and have a cab run you over. Its much easier than trying to outrun a bicycle cop.

I went here with my wife and her dad to celebrate her birthday dinner.  We had heard that it was a great place for steak and seafood, and the menu looked enticing when we checked it out online.   Unfortunately, It was passable at best.

My wife and I ordered steak (I had the Saska, she the Filet Mignon) and were disappointed.  They were both a little undercooked and hard to cut.  Her dad ordered the clams, and didn't care for them much either.  In fact, he was a little sick the next day.  I know that you can never prove these things definitively, but still, not a good sign.

Anyway, it wasn't horrible, but we won't be coming back, either.  The search continues for a decent steak joint in PB... :)
