Positive experience from start to finish. I've definitely found a stylist I want to stick with.
I found Sarah here on Yelp and sent her an email to see if she wanted to handle what I thought was a hair crisis. Sarah responded quickly and answered all of my questions and offered some services she thought might help. She was very flexible with my awkward schedule and got me in right before the Thanksgiving holiday.
I was familiar with her location because I only live a few blocks away, so getting there was super easy. When I arrived, I had never realized her salon was in an charming hotel. I had just finished reading Patti Smith's "Just Kids" and couldn't stop making Chelsea Hotel references to myself. There is something inconspicuously glamorous about the whole thing.
When I walked in to the salon itself, it smelled so yummy thanks to some oils in the bathroom, that I forgot I was in a hair salon and felt like I was due for a massage! Sarah obviously has a brilliant eye for design and decor and has a simple, chic, and elegant style. Her product wall was color coordinated, the wall paint was relaxing and modern, and everything seemed to be there for a reason. There is nothing more annoying to me than kitschy decor just for decor sake.
The actual hair cut was brilliant, Sarah asked me good questions and I felt like she was interacting with my hair on an individual basis, rather than just another head of hair. I've never been the type to walk in with a picture and say, "this is what I want," but I'm always looking for something different. Sarah let me voice my opinions about what i'd like and together we worked out what would and wouldn't work. It was just relieving.
After it was all said and done, I left with some shampoo and conditioner samples. i havent had a chance to try them yet, but i'm excited.
Overall, it was a 10 out of 10. -

(disclaimer, this review was written for sarah while she was at haven, but now she's gone and gotten herself some new fancy digs, so it belongs here)
to say i love what sarah does for my hair is the mother of all understatements.
she.works.magic.
now, as a matter of full disclosure, i, genetically, have pretty great hair. i am just mildly handicapped in my styling ability.
she gave me bangs... and taught me how to use them.
and each time i go in she teaches me a new technique to bring me out of the ponytailed dark ages...
shes honest about the styles i show interest in and won't just cut it to the picture if it wont suit me- really? the rachel wont look good?!
she dyed my eyebrows... did you know you can dye eyebrows?!
and she knows all kinds of good tips for make up styles, applications, and purchases. just listen to her when she sends you out for a limited edition product. its limited!

This is an update from my last review a few years back. Since then, I have moved to LA and still make the trek to Seattle to have my hair done - yes, she's THAT amazing! This girl knows hair like no other! I recently visited her new spot on lower queen anne and I absolutely adore it. What an amazing experience from start to finish. I am forever loyal!

Sarah is truly amazing, as a stylist and a person. Right from the get-go you'll get exactly what you're looking for from her: professionalism, expertise, and overall an enjoyable experience. Sarah is incredibly knowledgeable on the industry and what will suite you; get ready, she will ask you a lot of questions and this is a good thing. It's how she gets to know your style, what you're looking for in a cut/color and what you're willing to maintain. I love love love my hair now - I went through two years of unhappy haircuts that were just awful until I found her. I like that I can spend a little or a lot of time styling my hair and anyway I do it, it looks good. I will be seeing Sarah for hairstyle and color for years to come and couldn't recommend her enough!

Remember when you were a little kid, and you accidentally left your Barbie in the yard, and then your dad ran her over with the lawnmower? Well, that's the look I was sporting BEFORE I met Sarah. Limp, stringy, hair that had only seen a stylist twice in the past year. I never left the house without a hair clip, and my blow dryer had given me up for dead. My hair needed help.
I walked into Haven, where Sarah has set up shop in Ballard, and said, "Who wants to cut all my hair off?" Sarah's hand went up. Already, I liked her enthusiasm.
My afternoon with Sarah was awesome. Sarah is the kind of stylist who really asks questions. She wants to make certain she knows not only what you want done, but why. It can be intimidating working with a new stylist, but Sarah's attention, focus, and care made it easy to express what I wanted. My hair went from flat and lifeless to short and fabulous. (For those wondering, "Can I get a really short cut from Sarah, without walking out of the salon looking like a boy?" Yes, yes you absolutely can.)
How does my hair look now? Well, I uploaded my "new look" onto Facebook today, and here's the first comment, "Omg...you look stunning! Just like Audrey Hepburn! I love it!"

"Hi, can you get me in tomorrow?"
Anyone who answers "yes" to this question automatically gets huge amounts of brownie points. I've been growing my hair out for a couple of years now, and just suddenly decided I wanted to chop it off.
Sarah was awesome and incredibly patient with me. I may have been slightly (very) hungover and wasn't really up to the task of coming to a decision. Sarah patiently went over options with me, asked me what I thought and honestly told me what she thought would look good and what wouldn't.
When she went to chop off my mane, she held up a nice lock of hair and said, "Now, are you sure?"
I've had a good many stylists take into account my plea of "I don't know how to do anything with it, so please nothing that needs to be styled," but Sarah was the first one to really give me a style that needs very little maintenance.
I am super-pleased and would definitely recommend her. -

If I ever were to sign on to a Real Housewives of Seattle spin off, I'd make sure to give my credits to Sarah Khan! This girl is brillant, expierenced, and best of all listens!!!
I was seeking somthing different, a pop of color for my red hair. After flipping through some colors and getting her honest opinion I knew I could lay the trust in her savvy scissors.
What was really nice is she didn't leave me in the chair with a magazine while waiting for the color to set in. We chatted and I got some good yelp-worthy bar suggestions.
My custom cut and color came out amazing! I came in looking like a wet mess and walked out like a sweet red headed Bettie Page.

I have been on an endless search since my hairdresser up and moved to NY. That search is finally over! YAY!! I found Sarah through Yelp and am so glad to get an appointment. She not only is a great hairdresser she actually educates you about your hair and the products it does and doesn't need.
She patiently sat with me, for a good 15 minutes, to discuss or rather to help decipher, what it is I wanted done with my hair. Then when it came time to style she taught me the best ways to style my hair. She even got me to commit to a follow up appointment. (which I NEVER EVER do.) That's how great she is. Thanks to Yelp I found my new hairdresser. If you want a great haircut and someone who really likes and is good at what they do....Sarah is your girl. YAY Sarah!!! -

Visited Sarah for my brows and I have to say that she really is the best. I just loved her techniques and skills, as well as her warm personality.
She makes you feel welcome and at ease, and she has such integrity as far as her work is concerned.

Sarah listened to me and also advised me on what to do with my hair. She's honest and upfront about whether or not what I want will look good on me and about how much maintenance (time and money) it will be. I'm SO glad I found her!

I've been going to Sarah for over four years now, and I've never left her disappointed! She dares me to try new things (I've been uber blonde, chocolate brunette, fiery red, and everything in between), while always making sure I'm comfortable with the change and thrilled once the transformation's complete. It's a fun, relaxing experience with great conversation and a dish of all the best new online shopping sites, I'll always look forward to my next visit!

Sarah has integrity in her craft. She is true to her art form and stands by her knowlege and her skill. She will guide you to the best decisions and you will walk away from her chair looking and feeling beautiful and wanting to return again and again.
It's nice to be a client of someone who makes a living at what is also a passion for them.

Sarah is wonderful - I have had my hair cut and colored with Sarah and not only did I receive great services, but Sarah educated me about products and styling techniques in a way no other stylist has done. My hair has been razor cut and dyed a lot - too much in fact - and Sarah came up with a long range plan to get my hair back to its fundamental health. No one has ever taken the time to educate me like this. I totally trust Sarah's expertise. Oh yes - great head massage too! I most highly recommend her - truly!

As a guy who cares about my hair (it's actually my best feature I think) I go to Sarah. She takes her time and gives me great, creative cuts. The scalp massage is great too! She has a great eye for what looks good for my face and style. She's really a class above any other stylist I've been to. Hurry and go see sarah, she rocks!!
