Review from Leddee H.
I will give the practice area 5 stars since the driving range is in good condition. And they have both a chipping and putting area that are in excellent condition, which is rare in public courses.
I will give the short course a 4 star since it's a good challenge for amateur golfers and non-amateur golfers who want to work on their short game. However, the location of the putting green to hole #9's green is too close for comfort. I've seen numerous occasions where people practicing putting almost got hit with a wild drive from wild golfers from hole #9.
The main golf course gets 4 stars. On most occasions, your round will be 5+ hours. The golf "police" is nonexistent so everyone takes their time here. Also, hole #11 is really difficult for all level golfers. Although it's only 434 yard par 5 from the women's tee box, the hole is a sharp dog-leg right, blind shot, and a hill that feels like at 45 degree incline. Finally, once you're on the green, the green is also in an angle, so if you hit the ball off the green, good luck in getting back on. This hole will frustrate you...big time! :)
Nonetheless, I highly recommend Santa Teresa even if you're new to golf, someone who likes to practice all the time, or someone who wants a spanking on hole #11. :) Check it out and I'm sure you'll want to come back soon! -

** disclaimer: I only tried the driving range & the 9 hole. **
Bring your cash if you're hitting the driving range. The front desk staff will direct you to the nearest ATM located within the clubhouse.
The short course is first-come first-serve basis. The course is well maintained, and has several hazards like sands, lakes and trees. I thought this was one of the nicest short course I ever played, after the Olympics of course :-)
The demographics here seem to be more diversified compared to other places; I definitely saw more ladies, that's for sure. The pace wasn't too slow. I'd definitely come back for more short course and also the 18 holes. -

I have to give it credit, for the price it was quite a nice little course. I would have given it 5 stars except the kitchen was closed around 3pm when we got done and I wanted to eat something/ I don't know if thats normal or an every day thing but it was irritating none the less. They should keep it open all day. My two cents...

I really do like this course, the staff is friendly, like the layout. But it is pricey esp. on the weekend. And it can be slow, but so can most of the courses in the southbay. I would play more often but my BF has a war with this course so we try to stay way.
For the course I give 3 stars.....the forth star is for the BEST DAMN IRISH COFFEE at the turn. Especially on a cold morning. Order it doubled.Listed in: My Neighborhood, Golf

Santa Teresa once was a fun place to play golf, but they have the biggest idiot Marshall I have ever seen. I have been playing golf since I was 12 and am now 31. I know about course policy and Santa Teresa's policy which doesn't allow a group of 5 on the weekends is a complete joke. At around hole 3, my friends and I decided to group up, since the pace of play slowed up a bit. Not long after a Marshall came over, I got the feeling like they were watching us like we were potential terrorists or something, and he let us know about the policy on the weekends. Fortunately for us, he was willing to compromise with us and go against policy, he let us play on, but warned us that another Marshall might break us up later. At about the turn this idiot comes flying toward us in a cart. We tried to explain that the pace of play was perfect and that there was nobody behind us. we mentioned to him that another Marshall let us keep our group together earlier in the round. This jerk just wouldn't budge on the issue, he was going to exercise that policy because by golly that was the policy and he wanted to feel like a man that day or something. He got all hostile towards us which is completely unacceptable! This guy needs a new job parking cars up at Silver Creek where they know how to treat people with respect. Apparently, Santa Teresa does allow 5 on the weekdays. How does that make sense? Needless to say, I won't be going back here for a long time, which is sad because I used to play a lot of High School matches at Santa Teresa. If you do decide to play there, don't be surprised if you get treated like garbage. Oh yeah, he also broke up another group of 5 ahead of us which slowed up the pace of play so much that we quit after the 12th hole. What a waste of money. He also sent ANOTHER Marshall out to follow us on every hole, just to make sure we didn't break that wonderful policy again. Can you imagine trying to swing a golf club with a Marshall breathing down your neck every hole. We were livid!!! Golf usually is a game that helps to relieve stress not give you more of it.

Cant complain too much about this place. Pretty easy course even for a noob like myself. Course is relatively flat, not many lakes or hills so its nice to go out there and just enjoy yourself without getting too frustrated.
The short course is always a nice alternative when the long course is too long of a wait. 11 bucks I believe on weekdays so its a good bang for your buck. Also a better option cuz sometimes the long course is too slow of a pace. Hole #3 is my favorite cuz theres a small lake, sometimes you can see people fishing..very relaxing atmosphere. -

I have been coming here off an on for about 4 months...ever since my husband got bit by the golf bug. It's nice because it's super close to our home and the price is right! It's nothing fancy but the people working here are very friendly and they do a good job of keeping up the landscape and the greens are always clean and easy to play on.
I love the short course and am able to finish that with my husband in about an hour and a half. People that come here are chill and not trying to play through you or get on your case if you are playing slower then they like. Their driving range is fun and on occasion you will make a new friend who wants to help you with your swing.
Great place for beginners! -

The staffs are very rude.
When I complained to staffs that the pace was too slow, the response was "you complain because you just want to complain??" -

Nestled in the SJ hills with tall shady trees scattered throughout the course, almost 2 dozen practice range stations, multiple putting greens and a FREE par 3 course (first come, first serve) - what more could you ask for? Oh, right - and no geese grazing the fairways to accidentally maim!
Never mind that extra stroke, you'll find solace here...All is perfect; nothing but 6,742 yards of green peace.
Weekend fee: $54 and twilight is about half. -

Let me be honest first: I am not good at golf. In fact, I suck at it. I do think its a fun game, it's a good excuse to drink beer all day, and it's a good excuse to be outside for 5+ hours, so I will continue to play. I like this course because I feel comfortable playing here and don't feel hated because well....like I explained before, I suck.
Like other Yelpers mentioned before me, sometimes the course is a litttttle slow. I find that the front nine is not AS bad as the back nine. Sometimes, even for a newbie like me the back nine is excruciatingly slow. If you're down for a quick game though, the short course is pretty good and seems to move quickly.
I don't have many courses to compare this one too, but I guess it is kind of expensive for what it is. We usually go for the twilight rates though, which are quite a bit cheaper. The only downside to that is that because the course gets so crowded we usually don't make it through all 18 holes before it gets dark. All in all, Santa Teresa is good for me. Once I go pro, I'll be back for a reevaluation. -

I must have played this course dozens of times when I was younger and played a lot of golf. It was always a better than average muni. People should realize that it isn't going to be a Stanford Golf Course or San Jose Country Club. It's gonna be packed, slow and frustrating but the holes are challenging on the back nine, the front not so much except for the first tee if they let you tee off on the hill next to the clubhouse.
Didn't realize the green fees were over $50.00 now. My nephew plays a lot and said the prices were high. Wow! Prices have really gone up. Go to Cinnabar Hills or Los Lagos.
The restaurant wasn't very good as far as I remember, just the standard fare of hot dogs and potato chips with a Snickers bar or two to put in your bag for energy. This ain't La Foret, it's a golf course focusing on golf not food.
The putting green is great and if you wanted to, you could just park and putt all day without playing. No one will know. Parking is ok but you have a sleep, steep walk up the hill to your car after 18 holes. It almost killed me at 18, don't know how these old guys do it today in the heat. -
Review from Joel V.
Although I really do enjoy Santa Teresa, boy they are overpriced! Like $75 on a weekend with a cart.
The course is in good shape, is pretty easy - and the pace is slow. If it were $60, I'd give it more love, but it is too much.
"Shorty" is a 9-hole par three couse that is fun for practice, and even better place fir beginners.Listed in: Golf Ratings

I started with 3 stars just for being 18 holes of fairly priced golf ($57 daily fee, cart not included). After my plusses and minuses, I ended up with 3.5 and rounded up to 4 just to be nice ;-) Read on...
+ one star for having a fun, walkable, challenging but not too challenging layout. Course condition is consistently good, from tee to green.
- one star for having a POS restaurant and slow, non-friendly staff.
+ one star for large practice facility: large putting green, separate chipping green, bunker, and driving range (mats).
- 1.5 stars for SLOW, SLOW, SLOW play. Avoid this place like the plague if you have to be somewhere in 6 hours or less. I understand that public golf can be slow, this place isn't a private country club. And to their credit, I think they're trying to address this problem. But you don't just wait on a few holes here, you wait at every damn hole.
+ 1.5 stars for having a 9-hole short course that's great for practicing your short game, beginners, and kids. -

This is a great course for all level golfers. This is our home course. Yes, it is slow on the weekend, but still better than other courses around San Jose. There is discount for tee time after 12pm that you can get online (Ask the pro at the golf shop).
The goods: 1. Cheap with discount. 2. green is great. 3. Challenging hole: #2, 11, 12, 13 (against the wind)
The bads: 1. driving range hit of the mat. 2. clubhouse is crappy. 3. slow on the weekend, and again is golf.
We play here 2-3 times a month. Highly recommend! -
Review from Andrew Y.
Golfed my first full 18 here this past weekend and the conditions could not have been better! It was a perfect day to show your hockey team that you stink at golf, but have none of them really care. I had a great time shanking the ball here and there mixed in with a few actualy shots. The full round cost about $80 with a cart (could have been a little less). The grass was in great condition although they have a funny practice of using actual sprinklers on the greens and fairways during play. Also, the sand traps, not bunker sand, it's cement sand.
I espcially enjoyed the 8th hole. I made good contact and the tee is elevated from the rest of the course so you can watch your ball sail high into the sky and fall way down the fairway (over a big ditch of course).
Don't mind the powerlines and steel towers, there are rules for hitting those so check your scorecard. You may also see the deer, there's no rules about hitting them so no need to look at your scorecard.
My only complaint is that the beer cart needs to be around earlier and more often. The beers were about $4-5 a piece for the tall cans.
All in all a great experience. Hopefully we'll have another team outing down there. -

Probably the best deal to play 18 if you are a student in the bay area. The course plays long more often than not and the fairways are flat for the most part. There are some hills and interesting shots that will come as a result but, other than distance, there isn't much difficulty to the course. The greens are usually nice and the pace is never slow. The pro shop is a bit up tight and snooty (they obviously don't understand its a mid-level average golf course not pebble beach..) but altogether its always good for a solid round of golf.

Came here for lunch in the clubhouse with some co-workers. Nice place to relax, have lunch, and get some sun even if you aren't playing golf. Food wasn't anything special - standard sandwiches, french fries, etc. served up by the clubhouse mini-kitchen.
Bottom line: good place to have an outdoor lunch in the sun, but don't expect great food. -

Perhaps the best Muni course in the south bay.
On the plus side,
* the greens are in good condition
* the grill food is good
* the staff is competent and friendly (a rarity among local muni's)
* layout is pretty good for a muni
* practice facility is good
* short course rocks for $15
On the negative side,
* pace of play is slow, slow, slow
* overly expensive on the w/e...but daily fee if you're up for 27 holes+
* club house is dull (but the patio is nice in the summer)
* 18th hole is a good hike from the club house
If you're visiting...skip it. If you're a local...give a try. -

I'm not a golfer, but I went along just to walk the course. The front nine was fairly flat and easy to walk. Plenty of trees at each tee. The back nine is a better walk because it has more hills and slopes.
Surprisingly the bathroom mid-way through the course was nicely taken care of and clean smelling.
If you want to walk the course with your hubby, this would be a nice one to try. -

HEADLINE: Interesting little public course in South San Jose ... very good value for the money WEEKDAYS (rates go way up on weekends) ... not Cinnabar Hills or SCVCC by any means in terms of quality / views, but it is half the cost!
A couple of buds of mine and I hit this place yesterday playing hooky from work. This was the first time I was playing the course, the other three had much more experience with the course's nuances ... but it's pretty straight forward ... the course is largely right there in front of you.
While the front nine is a little mundane in terms of the repeat number of dog legs and short par threes, the elevation changes on the back nine were intriguing and entertaining.
Fairways were a little sketchy in places and spots, at times, were very wet (either over-sprinklered or a clay base) ... perfect to chunk a wedge. I was not a fan at all of the numerous OB markers ... especially on the first hole ... but, oh well.
The greens, while in VERY good shape, were VERY slow and almost spongy. Better that, I guess, than disease- or slug-pocked versions one usually suffers through at these kind of public course venues.
And at least three of the pin placements were set by a sadist ... one of them on the back nine was set where you just couldn't hold a putt from any angle with the ball falling off a precipitous front edge off the green.
One of us nailed one of the high tension wire towers ... I think on #9 coming back to the clubhouse ... the tower was about 200 out ... the ball caromed back 150 of that ... absolutely hysterical ... at least for the other three of us in the foursome.
One huge complaint I do have ... to the point of deducting a star ... was the state of the bunkers ... all of them. None of them had enough sand, and the meager amount that did exist was almost water-logged. I have no fear of the beach, but these were almost impossible to get out of without flying the ball. Blade either bounced off the bottom, or didn't get through the sand under the ball. I know bunkers are extraordinarily expensive to maintain properly ... but, c'mon.
I think the round set me back $40 (weekday rate) and the cart for two was $27.
We went off at 2:00 and were in the bar by 6:45 PM ... seems long, but we moved pretty quickly ... two of the guys I played with walked ... exercise nuts ...
I played like crap not having touched my sticks for a year or so ... no touch from 90 in ... scramble golf all day .... all was good, however, after three pitchers and a couple plates of frites sitting at the bar :-))
Both the Giants and the Yanks were on the bar's two flat screens ... nice conversation starters with the bar keep and regulars. Excellent little bar with half a dozen quality beers on tap including Sierra Nevada Pale, Bass Pale and Stella Artois Lager. Good stuff!!! Excellent bar keep ... one of our pitchers extinguished the keg and was only 2/3rd's full ... and it was on the house ... nice touch, my man!
Good driving range facility; large, but completely level, putting green; smallish chipping green. Decent little pro shop ...
Oh yeah, seeing golfers on Segways was a little nuts but it IS Silicon Valley. A neat option, but not one I'd adventure with.
I'd go again, but only on a weekday ... after much therapy on the range ... excellent value / easy going environment / lotsa kids on the range and taking lessons / all around, a very nice afternoon. Three solid stars, and that's the most I'd give any muni ... just on principle. -

San Jose, CA
Great place to play the game but the practice area is not fantastic though. The practice area closes at sunset so by winter time you cant practice your swing after work usually. The driving range is small and there are electric towers everywhere even along the course so be careful where you hit your ball. The only real good thing with the practice area is that some mats are sloped so you can practice hitting on an uneven lie.
The one thing I absolutely love about this course is their short course it is fun, not as fun as Rancho de Pueblo"s, but it is fun. Its great to practice your par 3 shots, especially if you have a problem with them like me, it sharpens your game really quick. -

All you could ask for from a public access, neighborhood golf course. Includes good driving range, restaurant/bar and fun Par 3 course. This is a challenging, but not crushingly difficult course that is set against the hills and pretty in places. Mostly flat, but there are some steep hills on the back that make it hard to walk. Take a cart and have a great time.

San Francisco, CA
The golf course is beautiful and has several great holes. It won't challange the scratch golfer but hacks like me will find a few holes tough.
My one problem with them is they charge full green fees although they are aerifying the greens . Nothing was noted on the website that this was happening. Most courses would give you a discount because of the distraction it has on the round. -

Great open fairways yet challenging enough to keep you coming back. The course can get pretty tough around 11 as you go up into the mountains. But if you stay calm this course can provide an exciting afternoon for anyone looking to take a day away from the office!

I have a soft spot for this place as I learned how to play golf here in middle school and high school. I love the entire venue of ST Golf Club Tucked in south San Jose at the base of the Almaden Hills this is a gorgeous sprawling muni course with everything. I went through group lesson and it was a SUPER cheap way to learn and John Snopkowski is a TOP NOTCH golf pro. They have the most relaxing practice area of any golf course I've been to, plenty of open grass to pitch around on and even though it's shorter than both Pruneridge and Sunken Garden, I would vote for "Shorty" at Santa Teresa as the best 9 hole pitch and putt in the south bay. You can't go wrong with any golf activity here.

I haven't been here in a long time because I usually go to Sunken Gardens in Sunnyvale or Pruneridge in Santa Clara whenever I go golfing (which is rare these days though because of time and money but I'm working on getting out golfing more though!) since I like 9 hole courses, I'm a beginner golfer. This is the place where I went golfing for the first time in my life almost 4 years ago, I've only played the short course here but it's a great course for beginners and they got a great driving range too. What I don't like about Santa Teresa though is that there's no lights on the driving range which means it closes once it gets dark unlike Pruneridge or Sunken Gardens where they have a lighted driving range so you can practice at night. I will be back here again sometime soon!!.

yes, it was rainy day of 2010. ugh!! we tee-ed off
@ 9AM and by noon, it was pouring rain!! had to
call it quits, so it sucked!!
my half score: 55
pretty good, huh? well, its not my madd skills, its
actually thanks to the course. here's one thing that
this place is diff from any other courses. the ladies's
tees is "extremely" close to the hole. (which also
means its super far from the men's tee)
in that aspect, its very good course for beginners.
less hitting distance to brush up on the skills. but
if you're mediocre, you may not feel the challenge
unless you hit from men's tee. just a thought
18H w/ cart: $70
once you tee off, there's no refund!! (even if its raining
cats & dogs)Listed in: its all about em balls!

awesome course.
santa teresa consists of a driving range off matts, short course with 9 holes of par 3's and a full sized 72 par 18 hole. course isn't ridiculously high end or super dooper well maintained but it's definitely worth coming. short course runs $11 a person and $15 on the weekends. the twighlight for the long course is only $12 during the weekdays after 3 to walk. they offer segways in addition to the conventional golf carts.
the short course is a drop in basis where you can golf yourself (sometimes sneak in a 2-3 ball play) or show up and find yourself behind a 6-some. lot of kids play here and noobs so you may find yourself laggin behind someone. definitely a prime spot for new players and even experienced players not looking to trek too far around but want to work on their short game. was my first course i ever played and i enjoyed it sooo much. lost 4 balls the first time on the first hole and used a 3 wood on the 4th hole. don't even know what i was smoking. fun and a little challenging short par 27 hole which never disappoints a fun $11 round of golf. the instructors and receptionists are always super chill
the course is located under a flight route so there are constantly planes flying over. there are also a bunch of eletricity towers that you may end up hitting if you stray from the fairway on a few holes of the large course.
the food isnt bad either. if you ever get a chance, swoop on that chili cause it's got some flavor worth tasting. otherwise, pickup a snickers and head on over to the 10th cause if you're hungry, why wait? -

This course is similar to Sunnyvale Muni but with better course conditions. It's a great course because it makes the round enjoyable but not stressful to hit tight locations. Note that it does get a bit windy here in the summer.

Great prices, friendly service, and two course options and a driving range. The cheaper course is a short course composed of 9 holes all of which are par 3's. The long course is average difficulty with everything from par 3's to par 5's. There is a golf shop and on-site food service which is simple but nice. Seasoned golfers may get tired of this course, but it is a great course for those looking to play a nice enjoyable round of golf.

This course is sort of nice. However, they clubhouse manager charged my coworker $60 for a crappy rental pitching wedge when it got lost. I know for sure that they will take that money and buy a replacement used wedge for about $5. My company spent $800 that day and they still feel the need to rip us off for that club. There are plenty of nice courses in the area to not return to these guys.

Used to be my default place for the driving range twice a week when I used to live in San Jose, Decent range, great location away from any freeways or major streets. Pricing is decent - $9 for a large bucket. I have also played the 9 hole par 3 - $15 and the 18 hole course - $40+ twilight with a cart. Both really nice, not stunning but nice. Pity I moved away from this golf course. Driving range at Coyote is nicer and has real grass, but I learned on this driving range and it's cheaper with no dress code.

Review from Christopher F.
San Jose, CA
1. Play is as slow as molasses. 4 hours to play 12 holes on a MONDAY mid-day. NOT on a holiday. (we left after 14. see #2).
2. Customer service was HORRIBLE. One of our carts started running out of juice on the 12th hole. We called the clubhouse from a cellphone twice. Don't think they came looking for us until the 14th hole. We wouldn't know. We left the boulder of a cart on hole 14 when the cart wouldn't move anymore. That's a long time to come looking (see #1).
3. Expensive for a muni. They put all kinds of tricks to nickle and dime you. my dad is a senior and they stop offering the senior rate after 10am but not actually 10am because 9:50 is the last "official" tee time for the day. If you're going to pay this much for a round, you might as well go to cinnabar just down the way.
4. Horrible customer service. (deserves to be mentioned twice) They wouldn't give us a refund on the one cart that died on us saying that we played more than a full game (9 holes) using the cart and they sent someone out to replace the thing.
5. The course itself is so-so. I had to spend some time looking for my ball in the fairway as some are trimmed a bit long. I liked the long and narrows of the course. The distances are decent. No drivable par 4s though. The second star is for the game itself. This place would be decent if the play were a little faster and the staff were accommodating.
All in all, the so-so course doesn't make up for the service I got here. I'm never coming here again and would urge others not to go either.1 Previous Review: Show all »
