So cute and right across the street from my work!

They have a huge selection of Lonely Planet travel guides, which are my favorite lunchtime fixation.  They also have internet stations, a healthy fiction collection and DVD rentals, just in case you need something a little junky alongside your literary pursuits.

Signing up for a card was a SNAP, there were cute/nerdy girls in the aisles, and the benches out front are like the perfect spot for turning a few pages.

How could I NOT give this spot 5 stars?

I love my library! i love how cute the building is! i love getting an email from my library telling me that the book i've reserved online is now in! it's such a treat! free books! i love the lecture series that the SM library offers. i love saving money on books by checking them out at the library!
and the employees at this branch are really sweet and chatty. i like that.

I only go here to work on my computer but I've noticed that they have some pretty popular and I would assume, high-demand books available on their shelves.  I've also noticed a solid audio book and video selection.
They did a good job of separating the kid's area and the work/computer area, especially given the size of the place (not too big) so it's always been really quiet whenever I've been here.  
Fast internet, helpful staff and 10 cent prints if you don't have a printer at home.  Parking is metered so ride your bike over if you're coming to work for an extended session.

I live in Santa Monica and work in Burbank.  My Significant Other lives in Ventura County.  I am not a native or long-term Angeleno.  However, I wholeheartedly believe in the adage "adapt or die" so I am doing whatever it takes to get used to being in my car ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY.

It occurred to me that a nice audiobook would help me retain sanity while driving, so I got my library card and now I have access to quite a variety of audiobooks, from mysteries to nonfiction to classics.  I am the most well-read non-reader you will ever meet.

Seriously, though:  As soon as I can get out of my car I plan on getting actual books, too.  And my trusty SMPL will be there for me for all my literary needs.  Thank you, Ocean Park Branch, for being so cute and cuddly and book-having.  

And thank you, library card guy, for being so welcoming and giving me the free SMPL newsletter with many book-related events that I'm sure will be thoroughly enjoyed by people who are not stuck on the freeway.
