Santa Maria Public Airport District
2 reviews for Santa Maria Public Airport District
Why can't every airport be this easy to leave once you land???
Ok, ok, first I have to clarify that I'm giving 5 stars ONLY because of the ease of movement here. Not because of anything else, got it???
If you can picture an airport that's so small it only has one "checkpoint" and there is only one baggage carousel, then you've got the right picture of SMX. It doesn't get any easier than this!
I love how, after enduring a long cross country flight and making a pit stop at LAX, I can land and be in the car in approximately 10 minutes. Even if I check a bag, we're talking an extra 5 minutes. Whew!
If you're flying out of here, you can take all the time you need. No long lines in this tiny airport. Only United and 2 small independent air carriers operate out of this facility, and checking in for your flight is a snap.
As for food, there is one Mexican restaurant on site that seems to do an ok business. I haven't eaten there in years, so I can't comment on the food.
Ahhh, if it were only easy to get out of all the airports like it is here....

It's a small airport. You can't expect much. But...I have had airline employees look for me after I've gone through security to give me a boarding pass for the second stage of my trip (with another airline, mind you) and a map and directions for shuttle transfers at LAX. They didn't have to go out of their way to do so, but they did. I've also seen them trying to find people who have accidentally left stuff at the security screening area. That is above and beyond the call of duty.
I wish SMX had a coffee shop. The restaurant is not fast enough if you want a quick cup of coffee. It has plenty of vending machines. It also has one thing you won't find at many airports, large or small: FREE parking!
