Forgot to write a review for this.

Menu is huge and seem to have a lot to choose from.

- Had the Super Fatty Tuna - Don't think it's my type of tuna but still melts in your mouth.
- Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll - Decent, nothing to die for
- Anything Sake (Salmon) - do yourself a favor and order it.  It's the best, almost like eat Toro without the $$

I recall order a ton of other dishes and left the restaurant quite full
Service was pretty good, nice location, very lively yet felt like we had our own privacy.

My Husband and I went there during our stay in Hawaii for our Honeymoon.  We sat on the balcony/patio which was nice since we were there just in time for the sunset.

The fish was fresh and the food was pretty good.  The butter fish dish was VERY good.  I highly recommend that dish.  Otherwise, it's pretty on par with any other sushi/sashimi/seafood type of place.

Overall, I'd recommend this place.

I am very picky when it comes to sushi.  I lived in SF for 15 years, and I've yet to find anywhere with better sushi.  I'm surprised how disappointed I am with the sushi on Oahu.

Last spring, I had a friend visiting from LV.  While we were out having a few drinks he got on his iPhone, found this place and said it got great reviews.  I mentioned it to a couple of other visitors we were chatting with and they said they hadn't been here yet, but had also heard really good things.

Jim and I sat at the sushi bar.  When going to a sushi restaurant, at least for the first time, I prefer to sit there, talk with the sushi chef, allow them to make choices for me and to show their creativity.  This guy, while not busy was having none of that.  I asked for recommendations, he said to just order from the menu.  Ok.  I asked the most important question I ever ask in a sushi restaurant: 'Is the unagi served freshly grilled and hot?'  He said yes.  He lied.  It was cold, right out of a cooler - that's sacrilege!

That right there earns them 1 star.  The rest of the sushi was bland and flavorless.
$12 for their panko ahi - tasted fishy
$3 bowl of miso soup - I get this free just for walking into some sushi places
$5 tako - not fresh, rubbery

Hamachi, maguro etc etc, not worth the money.  We had tap water to drink and the meal still came to $80.
I don't know about the rest of their menu, but their sushi was awful.

I can't say no to 50% off sushi and drink specials!!

Prior to going to Hawaii I decided to Yelp some places to eat and this was one of the ones I found. Located in a hotel on the THIRD floor (next to the DK steakhouse), my group and I decided to go in there for the happy hour special starting at 10pm.

I recommend getting there around 9:30pm or earlier so you can start getting in line and believe me, the closer it gets to 10pm, the longer the line gets. We were extra cautious so we got there around 9:15pm and were the first in line.

Once seated, the drink specials that night were grey goose (all flavors), jack daniels and beer. I had a couple of pear grey goose/soda and that kept me happy for the rest of the night.

In terms of the food, the most memorable had to be the miso butterfihs (so good we ordered 2!) and the ramen with truffle oil, OMG freaking delicous. Sushi was good too but the fried one was nothing special.

Also, during the 10pm time, there is karaoke so we got to watch some good and not so good people perform while enjoying our dinner.

Even with the 50% off, it was a little on the pricier side but hey with that discount it made it worth it, plus you get free entertainment. Service however, was a little on the slower side but that's probably because the place gets so dang busy.

Foie gras nigiri -- DELICIOUS!!!   Udon and ramen are very bland.  The Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll was also very good.  Wasn't a big fan of the fresh abalone sashimi, a little too crunchy for my taste.

Delicious, different vegan rolls.

I had the Paia Maki (Kula greens, avocado, sprouts, cucumber and pine nuts) and the Grilled Veggie Roll (Grilled shiitake mushrooms, squash, roasted red peppers, creamy avocado, cucumber and kaiware sprouts), which were quite flavourful and unlike other veggie rolls I've had elsewhere. The pine nuts added a nice crunch.

I had actually asked for an ume shiso roll, not the grilled veggie roll. I'm not sure if the chef misheard me or if there was another reason for the switch. I was satisfied with it though, so I didn't mention it.

I also had the natto roll, but I think I spotted some bonito flakes (not mentioned on the menu) at the end - perhaps the chef would leave them off by request. There are also other veggie rolls available (kappa, asparagus, takuwan, kampyo, burdock).

I thought the edamame was fine and the prices reasonable overall. The rolls were pretty sizable.

The location was a bit hidden; I had to ask at a store on the first floor but then wandered into the steakhouse by mistake. It's on the left when you step into the entrance of the sister restaurants.

Saw the ad in the paper for the Seafood Fest 2009 and I had to have it.  With the Sake pairing of course.
1st course- Hamachi Carpacio
Onolicious, the sake that came with this course was my favorite.

2nd course- Nigiri sampler-  oyster, white tuna, baked mussel
Very good and fresh.

3rd course-Crab sampler-  snow crab spring roll, crab & avocado cake, and crab wonton soup
It would have been good if the soup was hot.  Lukewarm is a turnoff.

4th course-Maui ribeye and Kona lobster
Steak was cold.  Lobster was hard to eat.  They should crack it better.  I shouldn't have to fight for my food at this place.

Dessert-Apple pie tart- ono

They totally lost a star from me because the hot foods were not served hot.   We did order a lot of other dishes and they were all delicious.    Luckily we went early so we did get a 25% discount.

Came here for a family rehearsal dinner. Sushi here was good but not the best that I've had. If you place your order before 6pm, you get 50% off your order but it has to be specific items. If you choose something on the menu that has an asterisk next to it, you don't get the discount.

I thought one of the rolls I ordered was a bit too expensive at $16. I could probably get like 3-4 better tasting rolls at certain places here in San Francisco for that price!

The service was good and I liked the atmosphere. It's kind of hard to find since it's on the second floor of a hotel building. Parking sucks since it's across the street from Waikiki beach. I'd come back to eat here next time I visit Honolulu.

The sushi here is super fresh and super tasty!  Most of their fusion dishes still keep the Asian flare and are not too Americanized which is great.

The only negative is that the service can be slow; even at the sushi bar.  I eat here often and you can easily get ignored even sitting at the sushi bar.  A couple of the sushi chefs are cool but some just flat out ignore you (especially the chubby dude named Greg).

Still I keep going back because of the great sushi and since I can room-charge and let my company pick up the tab.

I usually stick to the basics:  Uni, Hamachi Sashimi, Amaebi, Ikura.  And they have this raw squid appetizer dish which is awesome.  It's raw squid in korean hot sauce served.....*DROOL*

This place is ok for sushi, but don't bother ordering anything else here.

The duck was burned and overcooked, the kids chicken was disgusting.

Their California roll is heavy on mayo and cucumber, the toro seemed old, the hamachi was ok, as was the maguro, but my order of Saba had spoiled.

The service was ok, but I generally find any restaurant that shares a kitchen and/or bar with another as this does, tends to be poor.

The bathrooms are also fairly dirty considering it's in a Marriott.

My first impression of the restaurant was very cute decor. I've had two great dinners there. Although we've ordered the almost the same things each time, the food was still awesome.

The crab salad roll was tasty and very interesting. The Pink Cadillac and Caterpillar were done very well. I think the Caterpillar is a little pricey because I can get them for only ~$13 in NYC. The Grannysmith Apple Tart was AWESOME, you have to order it!

Just pass the edamame. The one we ordered the first time was cold and it tasted like crab, ewey. Maybe we had a bad batch?

Anyway, since the food was really good except for the edamame, I will give Sansei a stars.

Happy dining!

Cheers!

Depends what u're looking for.  If nouveau, contemporary sushi is your thing, then this is the spot to be.

My preference is the 'simplier, traditional' sushi - so that's why I'm giving it 3 stars.

The miso butterfish is greeeaaaaaaat.  I had it in Maui as well & it was greaaaaaaaaat there too.  I find their rolls a lil too "out there", I generally like my fish plain.

I also felt very rushed, but that's obviously the nature of the 50% off beast.

I would go there again, but only during 50% off times.

BF and I decided to go to dinner at Sansei because ever since we went there a couple years ago we have been talking about Chef D.K.'s delicious dungeness crab ramen.

This time we sat with all the locals at the sushi bar. Many of the things we tried were specials or things the sushi chef just gave us to try, so I don't have the full descriptions, but everything was delicious. Eating seafood is one of my favorite things to do in Hawaii!

Here's what we had:
- Hawaiian Moi (a type of Threadfin) with Maui onions and truffle oil.
- Cajon seasoned Escolar (also marketed as "Butterfish")
- Dungeness Crab Ramen with Asian Truffle Broth: Ramen with a black truffle butter dashi, julienne Thai basil, cilantro and diced jalapeno peppers with dungeness crab
- Hamachi Kama (neck of the fish)
- Kampachi carpaccio with thai pepper sauce
- Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll: Sashimi grade Hawaiian ahi, arugula and spinach wrapped into a sushi roll, panko-crusted, flash-fried and served with Sansei's mild soy wasabi butter sauce
- Nigiri: Mackerel, Maguro, Escolar
- Kirin Light (me), Orion (BF)

Yeah, I had a great time at Sansei.  We went on a Karaoke night around happy hour time with 8 people and the place was full.  We were told that seating was first come first served, so we had to split up into two booths to get the night started.  Drinks were half off, and the karaoke was legit.  Everyone who got up to sing was serious about theirs, which prompted me and my little brother to sing our hearts out as well.  This led to rounds of drinks for free and free food too, and though I would have paid either way, the food was good and the drinks were strong.  Seriously, half off drinks and apps!  Go here!

Late night happy hour on a Saturday night with 50% off sushi and delicious appetizers.  Melt in your mouth fish and flavor.  Watching an awkward man named Fernando pour his heart out singing "Careless Whisper" for the free for all karaoke.  This can't get any BETTER.

It was the fiance and my last night in Hawai'i and a waiter from the Beach Bar recommended that we check out Sansei, his favorite place for Japanese food.  It was a bit tricky to find, but look for the Waikiki Beach Marriott hotel.  It's located on the top floor of the building.

Once inside the dim lit restaurant, you've stepped into a loud, slightly tacky and fun karaoke bar.  One that happens to also serve DELICIOUS food and drinks.  We ordered all of the "must try orders" that are specialties of Sansei, along with some other yummy dishes:

-matsuhisa style miso butterfish (sake and sweet miso glaze): it just caresses your mouth with buttery goodness.  We got TWO of these!
- New Zealand green mussels in a garlic masago aioli sauce - with slight zest. This was good, but not mind blowing
- Panko crusted ahi sashmi roll - fresh and crunchy and tasty
- and a whole host of fresh salmon nigiri and spicy tuna that gives a nice throaty burn

I had the Kamoizumi Komekome Sake, which is supposedly the Japanese equivalent of a Riesling.  Floral, sweet, light, and yummy.

Great place for a fun date or a group outing - tone deaf singers and all.  I'm definitely making this a stop the next time I visit Oahu!

My two visits here were very different, but both good in their own way.

The first one:  Drunk karaoke.
The well tequila is smooth, the servers are pretty nice, and the karaoke is hilarious.  The regulars were amazing to watch, especially the triumverate of Fred, Eric, and R.T.  R.T. serenading his lady was something to be remembered.

The second time:  Family multi-course meal.
We got the Chef's Selection many course meal, and just couldn't believe how much food kept coming out.  It was all delicious, from the spicy poke salad to the calimari to the shrimpcake.  All good.  Butterfish isn't my thing, but it was still decent.

Fun place, really quality food and experiences.  Food was definitely on the pricier side though.

They have the best RAMEN I have ever eaten outside of noodle houses in Los Angeles.  The sushi was also very good, and the service was very expedient.  We had a party of 12 and with 50% off that was such a good deal.  When I come back to Oahu I will definitely be eating at Sansei again.  Plus they had karaoke!  Fun for everyone!

obviously i had to drop some stars...

i don't know if it's because it is located in the marriot now, that service is slow due to more patrons...

i was also mad that they did not have their signature dish- the foie gras nigiri sushi... how can you not have your signature dish on hand?  that's like one of my biggest pet peeves when eating out... when you want something really bad and they don't have it...

i opted for the lobster and blue crab ravioli... it was ok... the only problem was that the truffle butter sauce kind of got greasy as it cooled...

i also had some hamachi which you can't really go wrong... it was tasty... even a tad spicy with the amount of wasabi they used...

however, it did not make up for the foie gras!

I give this a 4 star if its 50% off (either for their early dinner - 5:15 Sun/Mon - or late night dinner - 10pm Fri/Sat).  I would not pay full price for this food.  It is good, but to me, it did not taste super refined.  Sushi I've had in the bay area tastes more refined to me.

The highlights for me were the asian shrimp cake - like the shrimp cake lots, could do without the sauce which tastes too heavy for me.  The tempura onion rings were great and so was the dipping sauce.  The spider roll was good too.  The Takah roll was alright.  The Mango Crab roll was alright.

The poke does not taste as good as Ono Seafood.  The Sansei Special did not taste great to me.  I did not like the shrimp dynamite - does not taste refined at all.

At 50% off, the price is fair for the quality of the sushi so I'd definitely go back to try out more items.  I really do not get how they get such high zagat ratings cause the food does not taste very refined to me (some of the sauce tastes like standard sweet and sour or spicy sauce from chinese takeout.  the peach with the many crab salad roll tastes like canned/jarred peach).  I think it's only worth it if its 50% off - at 50% off, it's a pretty good price for sushi.

The wait is a little crazy - probably should show up at 4:45 for the 5:15 seating.

I'm only reviewing based on the fact that Sushi and Apps are 50% off after 10pm Fri and Sat. However, the poor Karaoke skills of tourists all over the world is a trade off. If you're looking for a quiet evening, ask to sit outside or in front of the sushi bar. Otherwise, a night with your friends will be good times. Plus they have different drink specials, like $3 bud light or $4 top shelf drinks depending what night you go. It was that delicious and cheap, the boyfriend and I decided to go both nights.

The highlight was the Sansei special roll and an Ahi Tuna. I was not a fan of the Butterfry roll and we regret not getting the things that were highlighted in the box. It looked delicious next to us... but it'll give us a reason to visit the islands again. :)

This place rules.  It can be quite pricey, but I feel it's worth it.   Without a reservation, it's usually a wait to get a seat at a table or sushi bar, so I would go to the main bar and ask for a menu.

I loved the panko crusted ahi roll.  That was out of this world.   MY wife and I also would get the Agedoshi.  Actually 2 orders so we could have our own to ourselves

Love it Love It Love it!

The best nights in my opinion are Friday and Saturday after 10pm. They will hand you a menu and everything on that menu is HALF OFF and the drink specials are just mind blowing. $5 Grey Goose mixers! Yes, I will have 5 please... just for me. The beer and tap specials are excellent as well.

The aged steak is to die for the sushi is top notch. The appetizers are incredible and to top it all off. The atmosphere is a 10/10. Great lighting and lots of room if you have a group and you will want to bring a group because they have KARAOKE while you eat! So there is alot to sing along to, laugh at and with while you getting saucy and eating good.

While there, please make sure you look for the bartender Ryan Birkett. He has a heavy hand, is very courteous and he has become a good friend of mine so treat him well. Tell him Danny Casler sent you. He will know exactly who your talking about and he wont hesitate to make your drink extra strong... trust me =)

This place is the best sushi place I have ever eaten at.

Tues-Sat early bird special 25% off between 5:30-6pm
Sunday&Monday 50% between 5:15-6pm
Friday&Saturday 50% between 10pm-2am plus free karaoke.

Came with family of 5 on a wednesday total bill was about $175. That's with 25% off.

Must try dishes:
Panko crusted ahi sashimi sushi rolls
Kapalua butterfly roll
Shrimp tempura roll
Takah sushi special roll
Smoked salmon shashimi
Dragon fly roll

Kodama Bahamas cocktail was good but could have been a little stronger.

This place is very nice. Server did what he does very well. Nice decor but a little dim at the table we were at. Sushi came out looking decorative and was tasty. Expect a high bill but very very good sushi. Food comes out fast and tasty. Would def go back if ever back in Hawaii.

I'm still not sure how my buddies and I found this place (most likely we were wandering around downtown Honolulu drunk) but it's located upstairs in the hotel through the shopping courtyard, adjacent from their swimming pool.

This place is actually a combination of a steak house and a sushi place, with the bar dividing the two.  We would always sit at the bar, and it actually became a tradition for us to go there, especially right before deployment, and then right after.  The food was great, and if you sit at the bar you may order from either menu.

The drinks were made well, and the sushi always nicely presented with no dried out rice (I hate when I get dry sushi rice).  The bartender no longer works there, but we would go often enough that she told us we paid her way through school.  Of course, after ordering 3 bottles of Dom Perignon with a generous $800 tip will do that:)

As for the steak side, the steaks were always juicy and cooked properly, though sides were not a part of the meal (for those on a budget and from the mainland, you may not be used to this).

If you visit Honolulu, definitely go try out this place.  Of course, don't limit yourself to just this one... you have an entire island to eat up before you leave :D

The first time i went to Sansei was back in February with a bunch of friends and although i can't remember what we ordered i still consider this to be on of the best, if not the best, sushi place on Oahu.

We went to eat there when they had the 50% off sushi and drinks special and what was great about that night is that it was karaoke night too so you can eat sushi, get your drank on, and sing some ABBA at the same time too...er, i mean rock out to AC/DC, hehe...

Anyway, as for the food i just remember it being super good and the wait staff was very friendly and efficient. But the best part of the night was waiting in the line outside; because we went during the Pro Bowl street parade in Waikiki we ended up seeing Boomer Esiason and Cris Collinsworth walk out of the restaurant as we were about to enter. That was cool.

Seriously, go to Sansei for some good sushi and atmosphere and if you have enough liquid courage in you that night try out your best American Idol impression on the karaoke machine :)

Whenever I'm in Hawaii, which is more often than I really should be, I make it a point to go to a Sansei restaurant at least once...twice if I'm lucky.  The food is soooooooooo delicious!!  Everything is fresh and super tasty.  Yes, its expensive but hello?  Its Waikiki!  And how often can you get sushi that fresh?!?!

Everyone should try going during their after hour specials.  I believe its Thursday-Saturdays after 10 pm.  50% off sushi and discounted appetizers and drinks.

I have mix feelings about this place. You know what I mean, it's like going to a party and only half the people show up? Well, that's what happened here for us, the food/service here was ok, then good, then bad...then good again.  Since this was our last night on Oahu, we took advantage of their 50% off food. Here is what we ordered:

Mango Crab Handroll-(http://static.px.yelp....) Lots of mamemori leaves but the crab didn't seem to have any flavors.

Dynamite roll -(http://static.px.yelp....) A little disappointed in this, it wasn't wrapped tight and the softshell crab seems to be a bit underseasoned and not crunchy enough.

Lobster and crab ravioli -(http://static.px.yelp....) biggest disappointment of the night. The mushrooms that accompanies this definitely was dried because you can totally taste the firmness and the contrast in flavors. No taste or sight of any meaty lobster or crab. Don't waste your time ordering this.

Panko crusted ahi (http://static.px.yelp....) This wasn't too bad, it does help that I like fried foods. However, I was starting to be a little sick of the sweet/chili sauce based items by now. Even though this was their "soy wasabi butter sauce", it for some reason tasted very similar to their other sauces. I would order this again tho.

Matsuhisa style butterfish (http://static.px.yelp....) Now this is what I'm talking about! This was really good! Light, buttery, no sweet and spicy concoction here. Just miso and sake on fish, plain and simple! It was flavorful also. Though I had butterfish the night before, this dish just stands out.

I guess the party is just staring?

Tea duck egg rolls (http://static.px.yelp....) Ok, I think the party just went south a bit with this. The fried skin on this is too floury and thick. It wasn't think enough to cut through the taste of the rest of the items. It also didn't come hot for some reason. Nothing like lukewarm fried foods.

agedashi tofu (http://static.px.yelp....). Tasteless soft tofu. Enough said. Party is dying here.

beef tenderloin (http://static.px.yelp....) Wow! AWESOME! Since next door is DK the steakhouse, you pretty much get all the beef products from them. I have to say, this dish SHOULD be a signature dish. It was that good. Even for a medium temp. These dry aged steaks are melt in your mouth good and we savored every bite. It was well seasoned and well prepared, thumbs up!  Best dish of the night.

Ahi Poke stack -(http://static.px.yelp....) This poke was good, just as good as let's say Yamas fish market. However, the amount of poke here wasn't too much, it was covered by a lot of greens. It was light, refreshing, I would totally order this again.

apple tart -(http://static.px.yelp....) This is their signature apple tart. You can taste that it was freshly made and the caramel sauce that accompanies this was really good. It's not really made for sharing unless you have a very small appetite for dessert. This was a great way to end the meal.

So all in all, some highs, some lows, some in between. I also did order inari sushi and that was made really well. It was made perfect and the fish was definitely fresh. After coming here, I realized that sushi and steak is probably the way to go. Service here at 5:15 can be chaotic because the servers have to punch in the order by 6:00pm. We didn't get seated until 5:30 and we were waiting in line since 4:50pm on Sunday. We felt a little rushed putting our order in. What I didn't like here was they tack on a 17% gratuity automatically. It's a bit distasteful for only a party of three.  3 and a 1/2 stars for the food and service but since it's Waikiki, I guess it really should be a 4 star.

To sum: Come here early on Sunday and Monday nights, know what you want by reading up on their website, park on the streets on Sunday it's free, enjoy the sunset after dinner and walk it off by the beach.

There are two words that make this classy japanese fusion restaurant worth booking days in advance for:-

   "Beef Teriyaki"

You've not tasted Beef Teriyaki until you have experienced it here at Sansei. The stirling silver flatiron steak was sooooooo juicy and the teriyaki kalbi sauce was thick, dark, aromatic & mouth watering.
As for the location, the restaurant sits atop the Marriot Hotel, directly opposite the ocean on Waikiki beach. We had the good fortune to get a patio side table, so we could watch the sun set as we sipped our drinks. Sweet.
Aside from the remarkable beef, I would highly recommend the following from their extensive menu:-

-Lobster Ravioli
-Tuna Poke Salad
-Ramen Noodle Soup

We actually went here twice on our trip. The first time JZ had stomach cramps, so unfortunately I was 'forced' into eating all the food myself... Damn - I hate it when that happens!

;-P

I know the secret ingredient to most of the dips and sauces here...it's FISH SAUCE and thai chili sweet sauce! no doubt. 4 experts of fish sauce eaters confirmed it.

Had it not been for the 50% off, we wouldn't have ended up here. It would have been nice if they had told us that they charged the gratuity with your bill...so it ended up to be just as pricey. The quality to price of the food was not worth it. Also, if you want to see the sunset here on the balcony, you will not get the happy hour special.

tips to future visitors: come early, the line is insanely long, almost EVERYTHING on the menu is half off. Don't get too ridiculously crazy and order everything off the menu...if you look at the price, it's still costly even though its 50% off. Decide what you want to eat while waiting in line and input all your orders RIGHT when you get seated...your food will come out quickly, otherwise you'll painfully wait for your food. The servers are nice and quick. great service!

Eye candy for the ladies, the restaurant manager looks like Nigel from America's Next Top Model! ;)

Again, thanks to Yelp we tried out Sansei for their 50% off special Monday at 5:15.  We left our hotel down the street at five and arrived to find a fairly long line waiting.  As luck would have it, the hostess put the cut off directly before us.......
The moral of the story is be nice and you just might find an extra two seats someplace :)  The staff was really great, especially considering we floated in only thanks to the hostess' discretion.
Sushi is the real deal here, and this is a second hand account as I don't really go for raw.  My buddy had a caterpillar and bagel roll, both were quite good albeit a little different than what is normally served back home.  Best MaiTai's EVER!!
I had the ribeye and prawns, and I have to say the steak was certainly the weak link (though it's a sushi joint, this steak was not worth the price even at half off).  It was thin, and thusly overcooked, and generally not the quality I'd expect for this restaurant (especially considering the adjoining sister restaurant is a steakhouse).  Everything else on the plate was just wonderful.
Sansei is definitely worth a visit, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

This guy who lives in Oahu told us about this place on our flight to Hawai'i. So we had to go try it the very night we arrived at the island.

WOW - from the great mai tai to incredibly fresh and tangy (yes, tangy) sushi menu, we LOVED eating at this place. So much so that we had to come back and try again before the end of our vacation!

Hawai'ian vacation was very memorable, and this restaurant definitely added joy in our trip. I can't wait to go back very sooooon :)

P.S. - Check out the pix I uploaded.

I've only every come here on the weekends, after 10:00 p.m. when they have half off everything and Karaoke, so my review is only based on those experiences.

I've been here about a dozen times, and Sansei never disappoints. All the rolls I've had here were cheap (half off after 10 p.m. on weekends!) and well prepared.

I enjoy the karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights, usually the mix of singers is good and the crowd is a good mix of tourists and locals.  I don't know if I would like it as much if I was paying full price for everything, but anytime I can go to a sushi place and leave stuffed for 12 bucks I'm happy.
