The last time I visited Sandy Lake Park was with my 6th grade choir class.  I don't want to date myself, but I think I probably wore my Chic jeans and Izod shirt.  On my return visit with 2 kids of my own, this place looks exactly like it did in 1982.   Plus, it's family owned.  I think the family might even live right on the property.  So, there is a little bit of nostalgia that might color my review.  It's not the nicest place in the world nor is it all that cheap, but NO ONE was there and that, my friends, is worthy of the 4 stars all by itself.
My kids got to ride the Tilt-A-Whirl, the Scrambler and the Crazy Legs for the first time in their lives.  Some of the rides are even shaded which is a plus on the first day of July.   There was never a line and sometimes our kids were the only ones on the ride.
We chose not to play mini-golf or eat the amusement park food since we brought our own.  But, we rode the rides and then went on to the pool.  If you can get past the funny 1945 bathrooms that are reminiscient of the bathrooms at the Cotton Bowl, then the pool is cool.  There are actually 2 pools.  One doesn't go deeper than 3 feet and it's enormous.  So, we sat on the side and watched our kids have the run of the place.  Later 2 busloads of day care kids came to the pool, but there was room to spare.  The other pool is a little smaller and goes to the depths of 4 ft.  The water was cold and it was nice to cool off after a sweaty time on the rides.
We got in with a free admission coupon from their website.  Otherwise, it's $2 a person.  Each ride was between $1 and $2 per person and that money went fast!  The pool is $4 even if you are just a spectator.  All in all, my friends and I got out of there in 3 hours spending about $45 each.  We could have stayed longer on the rides, but I wasn't really willing to get more cash for the occasion.  Though, I could have ridden the Tilt-A-Whirl again.
