Friendly service, both at the front desk and in the attached restaurant. My room was clean and the wi-fi worked acceptably well. The restaurant was very convenient and offered good quality, basic food.
The guy at the front desk gave me a pre-season rate (almost $50/night, including tax) and the restaurant's prices were very reasonable. -

We ate there the first time after we got to the Red Rock restaurant, east of there, fifteen minutes before morning closing time but no waitress showed up till closing time and announced they were closed. I urge avoiding that restaurant if possible, but I like the motel which is not apparently associated with the restaurant.
Now to the Sandstone. We got there a few minutes after morning closing time but they graciously whipped up breakfast for us. It was good.
We went back for dinner that night. I had BBQ ribs which were, as advertised, falling off the bone. They were tasty if not spicy. My wife had a bistro steak, steak wrapped in bacon. She loved it. The vegetables were quite good.
Then we went for breakfast the next morning and it was also quite good. The service was always pleasant and competent.
We have not stayed at the motel so I can't rate it. This is purely on the restaurant. -

This review is based on our stay in November 2007. And I am known for my chronically wordy reviews, so here goes another one! Ha!
We took the kids on a 5-day road trip through the National Parks of Utah last Thanksgiving. We did a little research beforehand just so we would know which hotels were decent and which ones were skanky. One in particular stood out among the reviews so I jotted down the number. I called them from the road in Moab that morning to see if we could secure a room ahead of time because we are prone to rolling into town late at night because tend to cram as much fun stuff into our day as possible then drive after dark. At this point I can't even remember which hotel I was calling. The very nice gentleman on the other end told me he was sorry, he was closed for the winter. Oh crap. Are we going to have to sleep in the car, I wondered? It's like 17 degrees out overnight, so that could be bad. I asked him if anybody in town was still open, and he mentioned the Wonderland Inn, and the main reason for his recommendation was that their restaurant was also open so we could eat breakfast there too. (Which was good, because the cafe I thought sounded interesting was also closed for the winter, along with apparently 90 percent of Utah businesses! Boo winter! The NPs are beautiful in the winter - more people should visit then!) This nice man gave me a phone number and mentioned that he was pretty sure that the Wonderland had new owners. Well the number he gave me was disconnected, and I really started to worry because we had already driven through Torrey once and to be honest there isn't much there. Well what could we do besides just show up and chance it?
So we pulled into Torrey close to 10 pm after a day in Arches and Canyonlands NPs. Wonderland Inn property looked almost totally deserted. We finally found the office around back and it was dark. As my husband stood there rattling the door to the office I noticed there was a phone outside with a big sign saying "use phone for after hours service." Hey J, maybe you should try the phone! A nice man answers, saying he's gone home for the night, but directs J to the secret key hiding place and tells him to take his pick of the rooms and settle up in the morning. (I hope that I have not just given away their secret that results in a lot of people stiffing the Wonderland Inn because that is not my goal here.) What a relief!
J picked the room with 2 beds and we cranked up the heat. The room was not fancy, but clean, comfortable, and quick to warm up. In the morning we went over for breakfast and to pay for our room. The breakfast was fantastic! We had the Haystacks - like a real homemade breakfast! (We ate a lot of hotel/motel breakfasts that week and generally they are just a lot of foodservice industrial junk food and nothing fresh.) And great service! And the room was pretty cheap! This is very convenient to Capitol Reef National Park and right at the eastern end of the Scenic Route 12 drive...and has a view to go along with that. Fantastic. -

I stayed here in 2009 on a road trip, just looking for something affordable. Now it's my pick in the Capitol Reef area. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and friendly service. I'll be coming back here in April 2010.
Restaurant also has good food, again nothing fancy but it's made fresh and it's tasty.
If you're looking for the Sandstone Inn on a GPS, it's going to be pointing you to somewhere farther east of here. Just look for the UT 12/24 junction and it's the place on the hill. Same price as the Days Inn, but not such a crackerbox, you can park at your room door to load and unload. Very good value. -

okay we checked-in in the evening on July 3rd 2010 , had dinner in their restaurant. I ordered a medium ribeye steak, it came out well-done. I sent it back and the second time the ribeye came out medium well very close to well-done. I'm hungry already after waited for almost an hour so i didn't send it back the third time. And i figured maybe that's the way they had steak cooked in that area?
I took a shower close to 11pm, and realised that they have a cheap crappy hair dryer in the room. The hair dryer turned on for few second then went off and never worked again. I called the front desk, a guy picked up and i told him that the hair dryer stopped working. He then told me that he will send somebody over the next morning because the office is closed and nobody is working. I then asked if he has one that i can borrow for the time being, he replied "yes tomorrow." What kind of services is that? So if there's bed bugs on the beds then we will have to sleep in the hall way the night until there's somebody working again the next morning?
At the end, i went to bed with my hair wet, and i couldn't sleep the whole night because of my wet hair and i'm pretty upset on the poor and impolite services they are providing. I do not expect that kind of services at all. Will not recommend anybody to stay at Sandstone unless you just need a bed to sleep in.
