Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
My wife heard rumor that Sandbar was closed but I couldn't believe it. Pre-smoking ban we spent many a night drinking & watching bands and then a bunch of other night eating & drinking the night away. I think we've only been there once this year.
Well ... farewell Sandbar, you were a breath of excitement out in the western burbs.
Pros: Cool Vibe. Awesome Layout. Good Food. Great Music. The retro atmosphere is hot. Live bands rule here.
Cons: Location and service. Owner was not very nice. Kind of too cool for us attitude.
Worth coming out to visit. Especially on a live band night. Be sure and try the Black and Blue Pizza. Very unique and tasty!
Never had a bad time there!! Lately we've been starting off at the Salt Creek Wine Bar up the block for a flight or three of wine, and then off to Sandbar. FUN music, every time, lively crowd but never overcrowded. You can have a conversation and the crowd is usually really fun and friendly. Great service, and they have flaming tureens of rum (which I suspect, in retrospect, are meant to be shared among friends, not guzzled by one gal on her first night out after having a baby).
I've heard good things on the food, but haven't eaten here, so my stars are based solely on my bar experience there.
I am saddened as I just found out today that the Sandbar will be closing- TONIGHT will be it's last night!!!!
I will miss this place- it has good decor, great bands, wonderful tiki drinks, even better food and just a good overall vibe! My sweetie took me here on one of our first dates so I am biased but since we have moved to the burbs, it has been a touch of "city nightlife" (if you will) near our home. We felt really lucky it was around and it will be sorely missed. Boo-hoo!
I agree with Pademe A. (and they used too much garlic) but the place has been closed for a while. It has been taken over by new owners (The Boulevard) and will be opening soon. I look forward to trying the new place out.
This is great little place to go for a drink or a bite to eat. The exterior isn't too impressive, but the inside is bigger than you'd think and has wonderful decoration and atmosphere. It feels like a bar in the city, but it's in a quiet neighborhood, right off the metra train. Their unique dishes are made fresh, from scratch, and taste delicious. Good portions with reasonable to low prices and great presentation!
I had dinner here a few days ago. The place was kind of empty, just a few people at the bar, nobody else eating. We started out with a couple of beers, pretty good selection. I had a Sam Adams Winter Lager, my friend had a Dead Guy Rouge. The appetizers were plentiful, we had the mussels & a vegi empanada, both were delicious. For entrees, I had were the jambalaya, she had a pasta & sausage dish. The jambalaya was great lots of meat & shrimp, peppers, onion, great spice & heat level. I also tried the pasta dish, also very good. The service was really good, friendly & helpful. The prices were very reasonable & portions were huge. They had a stage, but no one was performing the night I was there, hopefully there will be next time. A really nice little restaurant you should definitely try.
been here three times so far-- loved it every time. Saturday nights they have live music, it's been rockabilly every time I went. perfect. Had the jambalaya. perfect. parking is easy too. love the tiki/retro drinks. loved it.
