My kids and I went to Sand Key County Park for spring break. It was packed. But there were many available parking spots so no need to fight.
Public restrooms and change rooms were adequate and properly maintained.
I liked the walking trails most. I was able to watch wild birds, including doves. Also on the same trail, I was fortunate to find a quiet spot to relax away from the spring break crowd. You know, not like the place to relax next to six hundred other people on the same public beach.
The sun was very bright in the part of the country. Beach umbrellas and chairs were available for rental. It was $25 when we were there. We spent two hours on the beach; kids were playing with shells, sand and water.
We enjoyed Sand Key County Park. -

Considering I am used to South Jersey beaches, where bathrooms are rare and daily beach passes are often required and pricey, I found the Sand Key County Park pretty nice. With trails and beaches and playgrounds to choose from, it is a totally different experience from what I am used to.
The water itself is beautiful, hence the name Clearwater. It was March, but people still were splashing in the water. No thanks. I did take a stroll up to the rocks to check out some local wildlife, read seagulls and pelicans. This beach is pretty shell-y. I don't know how that works all year round, but it would be kinda tough to lounge on when this place is pretty packed. There were chair and mini tent rentals for $25 for the whole day. Probably worth it if you were planning on making a day of it.
What seems like the best part is the changing stations and bathrooms. I chose this beach after reading it was voted the #2 beach in America (yes I found that site too). I don't agree with that, but it is a convenient beach for families...you only have to pay for the parking.Listed in: A Philadelphian in Clearwater

First to review? Wow, maybe this place is a secret that I'm not supposed to disclose.
Well you're busted!
Only a hop skip and possibly a jump away from the hustle and bustle of Clearwater Beach lies Sand Key Park.
The amenities are sparse in comparison, but the beach is just as fabulous, with a fraction of the crowd. Yelpers, take heed, if you ruin this beach because I told my secret, I will hunt you down!
Parking is metered and there are change machines dispersed throughout the lot.
Happy swimming!Listed in: Florida Girl

I could swear I read that this was voted the #2 beach in the nation, but now I can't find that source. Anyhow, that said, I think there are some nicer beaches in the Clearwater/St. Pete area, but this one was pretty nice, too. Pretty secluded and away from any hustle and bustle. The sand is OK, nothing outrageously soft or beautiful, and the water is nice and clear for the immediate wading area. Snack machines, good clean restroom/changing/showering facilities, and umbrella rentals on the beach, too.
I guess I had higher expectations, but it's really a nice beach nonetheless... don't forget quarters for parking (although kudos to the park for providing a change machine for the folks who don't have change on hand). The park looks nice too, with some biking trails and whatnot. -

A Great Place to enjoy the beach... especially if youre getting married! I've photographed several weddings at Sand Key, and other than not being close enough to the water... it was perfect!
