My boyfriend and I were going through the city checking out different clubs, and Sanctuary was the first one we went to.
When we went, they had a small selection of bud (four), two of which looked extremely nice. What attracted me more though, was their selection of clones! Additionally, they had a good variety of edibles and concentrates.
They also have a gorgeous aquarium and small lounge-y area with a vaporizer. This is really a nice small club that deserves to be recognized!
P.S. The doorman is awesome! Super personable and nice :)
I got this comment from someone at Sanctuary.....
"Hi Tommy contact the State board of equalization and ask them, then maybe you have the correct knowledge to slander someone...."
My Response......
"First off if it would be libel considering it's written smart guy. Second, would you care to link me to some sort of proof that you're legitimately charging taxes to provide a foundation for your "slander" accusation?"
Awaiting a response.....
Edit: The owner of this business clearly thinks he's some sort of legal wiz when he has no ground to stand on. Saying he's going to take civil action against reviewers, yelp and parent companies is just plain ludicrous. The nature of this site is to review businesses and services, for better or worse. To post harassing comments on negative reviewers is ust plain childish and goes to show the type of asshole that's actually running this place.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO TO DIVINITY TREE ON GEARY BETWEEN LARKIN AND POLK. BETTER SELECTION, LOWER PRICES AND THE STAFF ARE COOL AS HELL.

Sanctuary charged me for what they call tax the last couple of times that I've been there. I just… Read more »
I'm not a huge fan of the Tenderloin - let's put it like this, if I was holidaying in SF and accidentally booked my hotel there I think killing myself would be preferable to spending a night in a bed there...
But I digress... What can the area have to do with this Club? Well, everything.
The bars outside the shop do nothing to prevent my concern as I approach. However the friendly, well dressed face of the doorman immediately displaces my unease. He and 'Torro' put me at rest in a shop no bigger than a small kitchen but with enough luxurious red velvet curtains to make me believe that I am in a smart club or bar and not a cannabis club.
A free brownie as I'm a first time client and enough friendly advice to make me want to return. This I think will become a firm favourite..
I'm with Tommy on this one. They actually freaking charge taxes..which anyone with a brain know's-THE CITY AND STATE..LET ALONE THE GOV DOES NOT CHARGE TAXES ON POT. This group is clearly ripping someone off somehow. Also-lets clear this up right now just because its hydro doesn't mean its better. For those that don't know-Hydro only grows your bud faster-not stronger or better. So if youre buying into that idea that hydro is better and paying that price, youre being ripped off. In all reality most hydro bud is harvested BEFORE its full potential. Charging the prices they do (20 bucks a gram,8ths are gonna cost you about 60 bucks) and in cases chargning taxes (they tax the clones i know for sure) makes this place hard to shop at without complaining. I've been there 4 times. Each time giving it a chance. Each time the same. Never going back. The grapefruit i bought from them was of poor quality as was all the others. Not recommended.
if i could give this place no stars I would. I got a note from I assume the owner telling me I don't know what's up. Apparently according to him taxing is the norm..interesting being as i just came back from...green door...not taxed...divinity tree...wasn't taxed there either..hmm...greencross...guess what? was not taxed. Vapor room didn't tax me either... I will assume he's not from the bay and thinks sf and oakland are in the same county. I don't know. I DO KNOW that if this place is taxed by the city its the only place in the CITY that's passing the cost onto YOU the customer. Which speaks volumes about them-in it for the money and not the love. If the only positive thing people have to say about it is there's a bulldog in the corner....nuff said.
Stopped by here last Monday. I got here about an hour before close, so that's why they probably didn't have too much selection left on the counter. That's okay, though. I just came in here to look for clones, anyway. They did have some nice looking bud like A Train but $60/8th is too expensive for me. The man at the door was nice and so was the lady. The pitbull was just chillin' in the corner.
They let me look at their clone menu. Can't remember all they had, but I picked up some Hindu Kush x Skunk #1. Looks really healthy, and it's currently eating up the sunlight in my backyard! =) Their clones go for $15. The place is kinda small, but it looks like they're renovating a bit. They had a Volcano for use, but I just got my clone and left.
For anyone looking for a great place to buy medical marijuana, especially first-timers; check out, Sanctuary on O'Farrell Street.
I recently received my medical marijuana letter of recommendation from my doctor and quickly jumped to Yelp for advice and research. I found many places (good/bad), but one place stood out from the rest; Sanctuary.
Sanctuary is a well-organized and friendly staffed club. As a "green" buyer, I had many questions about how the process worked, but was put at ease by a well informed staffer. I was educated in the fundamentals of deciphering between "Indica and Sativa" and other ways of using cannabis such as baked goods.
With the help of my fellow Yelpers, I found a place I will definitely return to again. Sanctuary is a definite sanctuary in the city!
Do I have a story for you...
So I went to this store with a couple fellow card holders (let's call them A and B) to get some edibles for our walk in Chinatown. When we asked the lady how much of the cookie we should take she said half the cookie if you have a medium tolerance (me) and a quarter if you have a light tolerance (A and B). For some reason when she told me to eat half, I immediately wanted to eat the whole cookie just to see what would happen. LISTEN TO WHAT THE LADY BEHIND THE COUNTER SAYS!
So I eat a whole cookie and A and B eat half each. After an hour I feel it creeping in behind my eyes, the slow burn of the sweet sweet cookie. I asked A if it's hit him. "I don't feel anything" A says. As soon as A says this he starts walking a lot slower. "Oh my God my God...lets stop walking for a second." So we pull over and just stand for a couple minutes so that A can get a grip. Meanwhile B feels nothing.
After walking around for an hour we decided to get some water. Right before walking into the store I ask B if it has hit him yet. "I don't feel anything," B says, famous last words. In the middle of purchasing his water, B starts pacing back and forth saying "I don't feel so good". Then he collapses on the floor, like a puppet who just had his strings cut. So I guess at this point everyone is feeling the effects of the cookie. The cashier absolutely freaks out and is starting to panic. I look over at A and realize he is not going to do me any good. I grab B's hand and shake it, telling him to wake up repeatedly. At this point his eyes start to roll back in his head and I can't even begin to describe the look on his face. It was like he saw God and was in complete awe, but it was also like he saw the devil and was scared beyond recognition. I saw the devil in his face I did. The cashier now is calling paramedics. I try to assure her that B is just exhausted and needs water, but she insists on getting help. While she's on the phone B wakes up like. "What happened?" B asks. Then he gets up and announces "I have to go now," and walks out the store. A and I immediately follow and we all start walking down the street.
As we walk we pass the ambulance on it's way to the store. After a couple blocks I realize we're going the wrong direction, so we go up a street and take a turn. At a four way stop we get to the intersection the same time the ambulance does. We pause awkwardly, but the ambulance waits for us to cross. I wave and we walked safely home.
The cookie was $6 and was one of the most potent I have had, especially for that price. A and B said they're not going to eat the cookie again, but despite everything I had a pretty good time and will be back for more of these.
This is a straight up dispensary. Get your fix while your in the hood. Unless you wanna hang around in a cramped room with 3 other people and a pit bull.
However, the people and the pit bull are super chill. AND, I did get a grand daddy clone that is turning out to be one hearty lady.
All in all, you can definitely get what you need at the Sanctuary. But I wouldn't count on meditating.
Loves it! Amazing product consistently.
A diminutive but adequate cannabis dispensary, at which you will usually be greeted by a surly doorman, but once inside, the staff is enormously friendly and helpful. They have a moderate variety, including large, delicious, and very effective cookies and brownies. The resident dog is also quite large and delicious. I always enjoy a brief visit here.
I can't say this is the best dispensary and not quite the best neighborhood either. (First visit I saw a crackhead taking a hit. Very attractive) Only 6 varities or so from what I saw and the best was 60-65 an 8th and it wasn't that great. Luckily I never bought from here, I was just with a friend who bought some. Staff was very friendly though, helped you with all your needs and questions.
was my first time in here, small and cozy (i guess). the people were nice enough, and it seemed like they kept a good selection of quality medicine. main reason im giving this one 4 stars: Blackberry Kush. perfect 1/8 nug pinecones, lovely colour and almost didnt even need a trim cuz it was so frosted. i'm a stickler for curing, most dont get it right and this was SO right.
i used to go to vapor room when im in SF, but then they started pre-bagging their medicine and not having it in plain view. that deception makes their snooty door people and paperwork not worth it. check out the clubs in TL if you dont already.
running out real quick for pot like you would for milk is damn cool, and i'm certainly grateful that sanctuary sprang up in my godforsaken 'hood. their product is a-ok and there is always a nice selection, but their prices are reminiscent of high school, when you just had to pay whatever the local dealer was charging if you wanted to get high. what they have for $45-55 an eighth is kinda poopy and shwaggy, meaning $60 per is the magic amount you have to shell out to get something decent. and while they do allow you to purchase random smaller amounts, when you do that you walk away having spent $25 on what looks like it should have cost about $10.
does anyone remember green cross, at 22nd and guererro? that haven where all eighths were $40, and joints or baked goods came free with just about any purchase? yeah, i really miss that place.
Good Tonics
really really overpriced medicine.. good quallity but 60?!?!?! 60!??!?!?!!? anyways, i gave 4 stars because the clones and mothers are on point.
