Ayla is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to my hair. :)  I started seeing her at Sanctuary several years back, and I am so thrilled to have found her.  She is an artist and true perfectionist, and she has now seen me through a very large number of flawless cuts - from the chic a-line bob she gave me back in the day to the longer, softer layers I have now.  She's also transformed the health of my hair with personalized product recommendations, and more recently, an introduction to keratin treatments - which save me a whole lot of styling time, and make my hair softer and smoother than it's ever been.  From the beginning, Ayla has taken the time to learn about my needs and my personal style, and she has addressed both exceptionally well time and time again.

I really can't sing enough praises for Ayla, but suffice it to say that she is a rare find and you are sure to love her.  Not only is she incredibly talented, but she's also one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.  I look forward to every appointment and am sure to be a loyal client for many years to come.

My first impression of the receptionist, which was over the phone, was a good one.  She scheduled me in for a time the day of and asked if there was anyone I preferred to work with, as she knew it was my first time coming in.  I really wasn't sure so I just asked to see anyone who knew how to work with Asian hair.  Anyhow, the salon is located within a residential area and looks sort of hidden.  The picture of the place (that I found on Yelp) of the outside actually helped me recognize it.  When you enter into Sanctuary Salon you'll find that the atmosphere is cozy and well lighted throughout.  The staff was friendly overall, greeting me with smiles. They do offer coffee and cookies to clients.  I must try them next time I go in!

I was scheduled to work with Eunice for my haircut.  I told her that all I wanted was a trim all around with long layers on the back and side swept bangs.  She did an awesome job giving me a layered look and showing me how I could add some volume to it by combing/brushing and blow drying.  She introduced me to the dry shampoo, which is a powdered shampoo that you add to your roots to add more of a volume.  I really like it's results!  Back to my cut...the long layers also added flow and bounce to my hair.  The price for my haircut (which came with both shampoo and a blow dry) was REALLY reasonable compared to many places that I've been to.  I left a satisfied customer.  I will definitely be returning in the future for a bang trim and another good cut!  I'll update my review after my second visit!

I decided to treat my mom here for a pedicure the weekend before mother's day. Considering that it was over $100 (not including the tip) I am not fully satisfied with the facility, customer service, or overall experience.
    1. If you are a first time visitor you're given a questionnaire. If I am going for a spa day the last thing I want to do is sit down and fill out a bunch of inconvenient forms. Plus I don't like that the questionnaire asks for your occupation/income
    2. They only have one tub. So if you want to get a pedicure with a buddy - FORGET ABOUT IT. One tub means only one person at a time.
    3. My mom had a band aid on her left toe because it was infected. She asked the woman doing our pedicures not to remove it. Not only did the lady remove it, she painted over the toe. That's not the worst part. After painting over the infected toe nail she put the polish back on the shelf. GROSS.
If you want to over pay for a mediocre experience (and substandard health/cleanliness) then by all means go to Sanctuary Salon. Other than that, AVOID it even if you get a gift certificate.

First of all, the receptionist is RUDE.  That's the only reason I took off a star.

My first haircut was with Lindsay (I used a Groupon) and it came out pretty good.  It was super layered but the layers were kinda choppy.  They didn't really flooowww like they should have, but I kinda liked it.  I just loved that I could actually tell her what I wanted and she had a name for it: The Anime.

Here's where it get's a little fuzzy.  I scheduled my 2nd appt when I had my first appt.  On my end, I didn't get a call or a message reminding me of my appt until AFTER I missed it (I specifically asked for a reminder call).  The message was saying they're charging me for a full haircut.  Ummm, I don't flippin think so.  That's where the receptionist gets all rude and...it's whatever.

They charged me anyway, but the owner said since there was a huge miscomm that she'd just let me reschedule my haircut at no additional charge (none other than the $50 they already charged).  But I booked it with someone other than Lindsay because I wanted a haircut that day, and she wasn't available.  Apparently my doing that turned into a huge problem.  I don't know how these things work so I didn't really get it.  Eunice did my hair the 2nd time.  I like it a lot!

Bottom line is, the owner made good with me and that's what I really care about.  She seems to know what the hell customer service is in a time where no one cares about that anymore.

Customer is always right, and this customer says get a new receptionist.

P.S. I'm going to chop all my hair off pretty soon and I'll definitely come here to do it.

Ayla did it again! She babed. Me. Out!!

She managed to get rid of the faded brick red in my hair with an all over chocolate color and a bayalage technique which I love love love.  I basically look like I have a golden tan without even seeing the light of day!

I also appreciate her patience and thoroughness. Ayla REALLY knows hair and is a master at color. It is evident that she really cares about her customers.

Signed right up for the Groupon and used recently for a haircut and color...whoa, getting gray, gotta get that taken care of. Also signed my hubby up for a massage at the same time.

Overall, the haircut was fine and Louise seemed very knowledgable about color and was very nice to talk to. It's nice to finally find a good place to go for haircuts that is not a 40 minute drive. The facility is clean and the hairwashing area had nice, relaxing mood lighting!
My husband also thouroughly enjoyed his massage, very relaxing.

I just called to book another appointment for the both of us. I learned that Louise is no longer there, so that is a bummer, but I will give someone else a shot!

My review is way overdue!!  My story: It had been a very long time since I had a facial. That said, a bit of background: I'm a baby boomer. I wish Yelp would give an age range to help me calibrate reviews...
I bought an online coupon for Sanctuary Salon. Parking was indeed a challenge. After 4 drive bys, I finally found a spot to park. And this was during off peak hours. Thinking about some of the reviews I read, I braced for a hard sell. Not so. In fact, I'd say the receptionist (very young) was polite, signed me in and that was that. Kicking back, I noticed a coffee/tea machine & asked about it. Indeed this complementary (guess I needed to ascertain this via osmosis), she offered to make me a cup of tea but before I could indulge, Kathy called me for my facial. She was very informative & asked to know about my particular concerns. Fast forward: as mentioned, it has been a very long time since I last had a facial. I have spent a pretty penny and more for facials in San Francisco. I prefer Kathy's. Suffice it to say, post-facial, I had to sit in my car to come out of total relaxation mode in order to drive. Outstanding. The facial was sublime. The facial massage turned me into a Gumby wannabe. I would go back in a heartbeat to Kathy. Never mind the day long excursion to San Francisco, nope. This is as about as good as it gets IMHO & experience. Sigh* Oh and as I left to pay the difference, absoltuely no hard sell with regards to products.

I got my hair cut here for the first time last year by Louise. I had a groupon and didn't think much of it - just assumed, I'd get a cut and probably never go back. I was wrong. I now regularly go to Louise. She is SO sweet and does such an amazing job. She always knows what I want to do with my hair before even I do. I've never had a hair stylist that completely understands the look and feel I'm going for the way she does. And she really pays attention - every time I see her, she asks me specific questions about what's going on in my life.

I haven't had any other services at Sanctuary and I haven't worked with anyone but Louise, but I would gladly give her 5 stars!!

I was desperately trying to find a stylist who wasn't super expensive but did a good job at the same time. After seeing a girl with a haircut that I loved, I was referred to Eunice.

Eunice is the master of an A line cut. I brought in 3 different pictures and she asked what I liked about each one, then she proceeded to meld everything I liked about the pics into my haircut. She is really good at layering the back so it looks sleek and polished.

I'm was so happy with my cut I started getting teary eyed. Once I was home I drove my husband crazy because I kept repeating how much I loved my hair. :-)

I made an appointment with Louise when I called. Somehow, I was assigned to Ayla on the actual day. No matter, I'm okay with that as long as I get a good job from that stylist.

After the cut, I was satisfied. I think Ayla did a good job overall.
However, after a couple of days, I did notice that one side is longer than the other. Not by very much, but its noticeable.
Its been some weeks now, and the hair grows out fine. And the imbalance, outgrew itself and its less noticeable. Thank goodness!

As I spoke to the front desk on the day I made my appointment, I remember I was told that Louise charges $50 while Ayla charges $40 and the price difference was due to their years of experience. But instead on the actual day, I was charged $50 for Ayla's services. Overall I paid $50 for the haircut and another $10 for tip. But I am not convinced it was worth $60.

    *Haircut & Stylist: 5/5
I came in to get my hair layered, but after having cut my hair in over a year, I was a little hesitant.  Lindsay make me feel comfortable right away and listened carefully when I told here what I wanted.  She even gave me some suggestions, which I would not have thought of otherwise.  I had been growing out my hair for the past year so one thing that was important to me was keeping the length the same, and that's just what she did.  Lindsay even told me when she was cutting an inch off my length to cut off the split ends and discussed each step with me before she did it, which I really appreciated.

What I loved best about Lindsay is that she took her time with my hair.  She took the time to straighten out the ends so I can see the layers better and even gave me styling tips at the end.  I left with a FANTASTIC haircut to start off the new year with all for only $45, which is great since it's a flat rate based on the stylist and they don't charge extra for length.

    *Staff & Atmosphere: 4/5
I was surprised that I was able to get a same-day appointment and the receptionist was really accommodating and even called me later when other spaces opened up.  Upon entering the salon, I was immediately greeted by the person at the front desk and offered water, juice, and tea while I filled out the new client application, which was a really nice gesture.  Lindsay, my stylist, was ready for me right when I was finished.

The salon itself looked very neat and elegant, a lot bigger than how it appeared from the outside.  One point is docked off for the fact that they need a credit card in order to reserve an appointment and you will be charged for the entire service if you don't give them a 24 hour notice of a cancellation.  I understand that their time is valuable, but think that a 25% or 50% cancellation fee would be more reasonable as long as the salon is notified.

    *Overall Experience: 5/5

Would I come here again: Yes, and definitely back to Lindsay.  She even said that I could come back in for a complementary bang trim before my next haircut.

After years of haircut phobia, I finally bit the bullet and allowed http://NaturallyCurly.com to direct me to a stylist. After cross-examining with Yelp, I went to Jocelyn. The girl is not only a dry-cutting curl sculptor extraordinaire, but she's super sweet and easy to talk to.
I've been coming here every 6 weeks since I moved here a few months ago, and Jocelyn has never given me and uneven haircut or steered me wrong with products. She knows I'm a broke student and doesn't try to shove retail down my throat, either.
I'd recommend Sanctuary to anyone looking for solid service at a reasonable price.

So I went in for a trim and ended up chopping off about 6 inches at least. My hair was very damaged but I didn't realize how damaged it was until Lindsay began working on it. She was great and helpful even though it took a bit to sink in when I realized I needed to chop off the dead hair. While I don't love my hair it's nothing to do with the cut itself (I just need to take better care of it) Lindsay gave me a great cut overall.

My problem was at one point it seemed like she was almost mad at my hair and kinda was almost hacking at it in a not pleasant way... but I would def go back. Good $50 spent and I usually think that's too much on a cut.

After years of searching for a hairdresser that supersedes the role of the overpriced just out of beauty school hair snob , I finally found Simona.  I have been to hairdressers that are almost twice her age boasting about their experience with rip off pricing and know-it-all attitude. Simona listens to me, looks at my hair , communicates how she is going to work through it , and works her magic with her scissors and Ed Hardy blow-dryer.  My first encounter with her was via Groupon , I brought in a picture from a hairstyle magazine and damned if she didn't replicate the look to suit my hair. Never in my life have I ever been to a hairdresser that is capable of doing that.  She gives me helpful hair advice between gossiping about life and hair, she does thing round brush and blow dryer trick that I use  when I do my own blow out--the technique helps my blowout last.  I really enjoy the time I spend in her chair because I know that when I get up I'm going to exude major sex appeal with my hair. She's cut my hair three times so far and I've been impressed with her pricing and technique.  My  red hair is kind of my calling card , so Simona makes sure it maintains it shape and sassiness by cutting in a way that makes it both easy to maintain but still edgy. I love me some Simona.

I also love Sanctuary Salon , the atmosphere of this location is very soothing and totally gets you ready for your pampering. I love the receptionist guy , he is always so accommodating and friendly . I truly love this little slice of heaven even though its tucked away in a essential area.  Although I drive from the east bay to get to this gem of a salon, the 45 minute to an hour drive is completely worth the pampering I indulge in at Sanctuary.

Like many others, I heard about this place through groupon and saw that the reviews on yelp were incredible.

    Hair: Lindsay

Lindsay is friendly and open.  The hair wash was gentle and feels like a massage. I appreciate any tips and opinions I get from my stylist and Lindsay showed me how to curl my hair with a straightening iron which was nice. I really like the fact that I received the haircut I described. Lindsay seems like a reliable stylist.  Overall the service was professional.  I hope sanctuary salon will be on groupon  again sometime in the near future.

    Eyebrows: Sophia

I needed an eyebrow tune-up and Sophia gave me exactly that.  She seems to understand what I was looking for. I am definitely coming back to Sophia if or when I need an eyebrow wax.

I went to Sanctuary salon after I read the reviews on Yelp. I think the place is so overrated. I am writing this review to show that there are indeed people who are not happy with the service.

I made an appointment with Ayla. I had the picture of the hair cut  I wanted. She looked very confident. She gave me the impression that she can cut the same model. She cut me a totally different model (only if there is such a model). At the end, I was like "Do you think they are the same?". She was like "Pretty, close." Even with untrained eyes, I could tell that the layers she gave me were much sorter. And she did not give any layers at the bottom, the bottom part now flips outside. And the top part does not blend with the bottom at all. Now, I need to go to a different stylist to get it fixed.

Looks like a luxurious place, but I do not think she is experienced enough to be rated with 5 stars. So, save your money, especially if you are picky with your hairstyle.

I am so happy to have stumbled upon this place. I have had several facials with Jen and I love her! My face feels/looks amazing thanks to her! I also have had my hair colored and cut by Lindsay. She is really good at what she does. I have had tons of compliments on the hair cut. The color was not exactly what I wanted and when I mentioned this to her, she went out of her way to make sure it was just what I wanted. I highly recommend this spot for skin care and hair care. Everyone I have dealt with has been professional and super friendly.

I only went here once, but I was a big fan. I just moved out here and I needed to find a nice hair salon that would cut my curly hair well. Any other curly head knows this is a tough thing to find. I was a little nervous, but this place came highly recommended! (Thanks Yelp and http://NaturallyCurly.com!)

I can only comment on the hair part of the salon as that is the only service I received. I worked with Jocelyn today and she was just fantastic. She was bright and friendly and took the time to discuss what I wanted to do. She seemed pretty knowledgeable about curly hair and I felt like she understood what I wanted.

The shampoo is done in a quiet dim room, and includes a wonderful scalp massage. Just amazing. The cut was really fast, but exactly what we discussed and no surprises. I liked that even as she was cutting Jocelyn was talking to me about shrinkage. It's a small thing, but just hearing that made me know she understood the wet length and dry length would be different.

The parking is just street parking so plan accordingly for that, and they do take credit cards.  This is a lovely little salon in a neighborhood, it is very cheery on the inside, comfortable seating, and they offer you a beverage when you enter.  My shampoo and cut was $45 before tip, which I find very reasonable. Annnd I called and got a same day appointment as a new client!

    High recommended!

I'm originally from California, but two years ago I moved to Virginia. I have been around looking for a salon that can work wonders like Ayla has done for me in the whole DC, Maryland, and Virginia region and I cannot find someone who does work like she does.

A couple years ago, I had really long hair and I was in dire need for change. Ayla gave me the perfect A-line, and gave me beautiful honey highlights. She also gives amazing massages while washing out the color out of your hair. You can't trust just anyone to do your hair, but Ayla always speaks to her clients and tries to get a feel for what you really want. At one point, I was also convinced that she can give me the perfect hint of purple for highlights and she made my hair look fabulous. I believe all of the stylists are skilled hair-stylists because I've recommended a couple of my friends to this salon in general and they always look great after their appointments.

As for the owner, Sandy, she's great and she has a strong urgency for making  all clients feel welcome. I guarantee that you'll have a wonderful experience with any hairstylist at this salon, you'll come out looking even more beautiful, and you will definitely want to schedule another appointment.

    UPDATE:
I didn't have enough time to complete my review, but just to let you know. there is also Sophia who does fabulous nails. I usually get a full gel set, and I know us ladies can be very particular with the shape, thickness, and length because I sure am. Sophia does a great job with making your nails look natural, if that's what you're looking for. She's done my nails a couple times, and I just love how my nails don't look fake at all. I'm very picky when it comes to nails, and I hate the fact that sometimes when you aren't satisfied you have to live with it and take them off wasting the time and money you spent, but believe me, she'll put in work to make ur nails look fantastic!

I had always thought I would get my hair cut at a barber.  After all, it was difficult to fathom paying more than $10 for a haircut when that's all I ever knew.  Anything more than that was completely out of the question.

Lucky for me, I had a couple of things happen that found me getting my hair cut at Sanctuary.  I had a friend visiting from out of town who mentioned she wanted to get her hair cut while she was here.  Around that same time, I got an offer to Sanctuary from Groupon.  I thought, well, girls haircuts can be expensive, nevermind any of the extras, so I bought two, thinking my friend could use them both.  I forgot that typically with these kinds of offers, you can only use one gift certificate/coupon/etc.

And so it was - I was getting my hair cut at Sanctuary.  Stark contrast to going to the barber, since I'd never been to a salon.  I was offered a drink when I arrived.  I did not have to wait long, and I was setup with Ayla.  She looked at a picture I had and listened to what I wanted, and did it.  It came out perfect.  And while certainly more costly than going to the barber, I find it quite reasonable given the extra perks of the salon and the attention to detail.

I have been getting my hair cut here ever since and don't plan on going anywhere else anytime soon.  Ayla has been my stylist since and does a fantastic job every time.  Let me add that I think what seals the deal here is the hair wash/scalp massage.  It's quite relaxing and a nice perk.  Thanks Ayla and Sanctuary...this was a great Groupon find.

This Salon is really professional and knowledgeable.

I saw Ayla for a cut and color and she was extremely nice, took ample time with me and explained everything she was doing in detail.

The cost is pretty reasonable. Plus there are cookies and tea which is always nice, they don't try to up-sell you products and the salon itself is clean and pleasant looking.

Most importantly Ayla did a great job and told me not to hesitate to call if after a couple days I feel like the color is too warm, ashy, or cool or not enough of the above. She'll be happy to make a change or fix anything.

Great salon, loved my stylist Lindsay!

I went to Santuary Salon as my husband had got me a Groupon as a treat. I was scheduled with Lindsay and she was fantastic. I had an idea of what I wanted and showed some pictures, and was thrilled with the result. The nice thing about Lindsay - apart from being a great stylist - is that she will give you her opinion and suggestions, which seems to be very unusual based on my experience.

Lindsay also gave me tips on how to style and blow dry my hair, which I have been doing. It's about a month later and I am still enjoying my hair and will definitely return to make another appt with Lindsay.

I usually go to Atalier on Santana Row, but thought I'd try here because of the great Groupon deal.  My stylist was Ayla and she is awesome!  She asked some really insightful questions to determine how to best cut your hair.  The head massage during shampooing was also great.  I pretty much feel asleep =P

    Summary:
I wasn't necessarily looking to change salons, but with this great cut and at a reasonable $50, I just might be a convert.

    Tip:
Oh, don't make the idiotic new client mistake like I did and go to the wrong address.  There is a Lincoln in SJ and a Lincoln in Santa Clara.  Make sure you get the right directions to Lincoln St in Santa Clara.

I think I'd enjoying going to Sanctuary going forward.
    A) I feel welcomed and comfortable- thanks to the courteous staff who do not possess a hint of snobbish attitude that's so common else where. The staff politely asked  if I'd like any beverages, and also later on told me about refer a friend promotion, and other discount opportunities that I could have. They were not pushy at any point in time.
    B) I also feel my time is respect because they are ready for me when I arrived for my appoint and I was out and going about my business in an hour.
    C) I also feel my needs are discusses and met because of questions were asked about how i care for my hair, how much time do I have to spend on my hair, what kind of products do I use. And at the end of the cut and style, my stylist asked for my opinion whether there's anything I'd like to fix or change.

Thanks for Groupon that I was exposed to Sanctuary, I'll be coming back!

    Update 6 weeks later

I was getting bored with the au naturale limp brown hair and really wanted something more fun to match my vibe so I went back to Sanctuary- and I experienced wonderful consultation and color expertise offered by Ashlee. We spent while a while discussing my vision, my goal, how much time will have to take care of the hair, what have I tried on my hair before (what kind of perm, what kind of color, what kind of highlights), what are my concerns about coloring or perming.
Many test strands and 3 hours later- I walked out with a fresh sharp new haircut with wonderful highlights of copper red and dark golden strands. I've received compliments but that's really just a bonus. I felt great that Ashlee worked with me to accomplish my vision and made it even better by adding her opinion and expertise! Hands down- 5 star for my experience. I'm now ready to tell my friends about this place!

after reading the awesome yelp reviews i decided to purchase my groupon and come in to the greatest salon ever! i had been growing my hair out and had my photo ready.

hmmm. well... it's a decent cut... but it looks nothing like the photo. in fact... the cut i got looked pretty much like the cut i grew out of...the cut i was telling her i was 'done with'. ack~unfortunately you can't uncut hair.

i don't feel like naming names because like i said... the cut was pretty good. just naaawwt what i wanted and you can't beat a groupon deal. it's been about 2 months and it has finally grown out to sorta look like the cut in the photo i wanted.

    just keeping it real...

THIS REVIEW IS MUCH OVER DUE:

one star for how amazing this place is inside. clean and welcoming.
one star for offering their customers tea, juice, coffee, water and cookies
one star for how friendly and knowledgeable the staff is.
one star for the receptionist not being annoyed with me because none of   their free slots worked with my free time.
one star for Jocelyn's side kick who helped get my hair done so we didn't have to stay the whole night.

Jocelyn deserves more then just stars.

Oh how I LOVE thou Jocelyn.
She worked with my schedule and was willing to stay late because I desperately wanted my natural black hair BLONDE.  They close at 9 and I couldn't get in until a little after 6.  My treatment wasn't a lil 3 hr. treatment we had to stay until 11ish.

Before my appointment I had to do a consultation with her.  I explained to her what I wanted and she explained to me what was actually going to happen.  She didn't tell me no she couldn't or wouldn't do it.  She didn't throw my dream of being blonde away.  She asked me what I wanted and I told her what I wanted to be was blonde.  She told me about her muse and how she wanted it to turn out.  (Her muse has lovely blonde healthy hair).   And I knew who her muse was and how amazing if my hair could turn out similar to her hair one day...

During the night of the treatment she explained everything to me fully and told me step by step what she was going to do. (Which is great because I've gotten my hair done before at other upscale salons and I never know what they are doing).  Jocelyn always made sure I was okay with what was going on and reassured me that everything was going to turn out great.  After my hair transformation Jocelyn called me after a couple of days to make sure I was satisfied.

I wanted to let her know that...

I WASN'T AT ALL SATISFIED.  I WAS MORE THAN JUST SATISFIED. SHE DIDN'T DO A MEDIOCRE JOB, SHE DID A WONDERFUL JOB IN DISPLAYING HER CREATIVE GIFT ON MY HAIR.

MY HAIR HAS A NEW BOUNCE IN IT THAT IT NEVER ONCE HAD. I GET SO MANY COMPLEMENTS ON HOW PRETTY MY HAIR LOOKS!  I AM IN LOVE WITH MY NEW HAIR AND NOT TO SOUND VAIN BUT LOVE STARING AT MY HAIR IN THE MIRROR!  ALL THANKS TO THE AMAZING WORK AND TIME JOCELYN PUT ON MY HAIR.

First time at Sanctuary Salon last weekend, and I've never had such an excellent experience!

**Background: I originally scheduled to see her on Friday, but flaky old me overslept and ended up late and rescheduled. Luckily the receptionist (I forgot his name sorry!) and the aesthetician were so patient with me that let me reschedule for the next day  ^_^)

I came in on my re-scheduled appointment, filled out some forms, and was offered some tasty coffee. Kathy, the aesthetician, was who I was scheduled with, and I think we hit it off well.

It was also my first time getting a facial so I was a bit nervous as well. Kathy was very sweet and knowledgable about everything, and since this was a first for me she clearly explained the process and explained how all the products and tools work!

Will be definitely going back for more! Thank you everyone at Sanctuary!

I went to this salon with great expectations after reading all the rave reviews. I made an appointment with Jocelyn based on her reviews for curly haircuts. I went in with pics of what kind of cut i was looking for, came out with a reasonable cut. But, it's a really boring and nothing like the pics I showed her. The salon is very nice and Jocelyn is very sweet but, my cut is just as ordinary as can be!

I just wanted to shout it from the rooftops that Sandy is the best hair stylist EVER!  This is her calling in life and she is amazing at what she does.  Not only are her haircuts wonderful but she is a MASTER at color.  I drive (when I can) all the way from Big Sur to see her.  Since I met her a few years back, I only see her, I've never "cheated" on her with another stylist.  The Salon is lovely and comfortable and the price is right - you are paying for the best and thats what you get!

Have now had several appointments at Sanctuary Salon, for facials, waxings and haircuts.  Very unpretentious and comfortable environment. The reception staff has always been helpful and friendly.

Jenn, my esthetician, gave me a great facial complete with extractions and I always leave very happy with the brow shaping.

Jessica did my haircut and color.  I was very happy with the cut, color and style.  At my last appointment, she made some great suggestions to update my haircut,  and try something a bit different with color.  Both turned out well and I can replicate the look at home, which is a huge plus!

Scheduling is easy...they have great hours too!

I hope you're reading this Simone!

I had a great cut here the other day. It was a damage-control cut, because I'm trying to grow out my hair and look good doing it. Not only did Simone provide lovely (and just the right amount) of conversation, but she did a great job listening to me and giving me great advice. For $50 plus tip, I got a wash, condition, cut and dry/style.

Beyond just the cut, the salon itself has the most amazing aura. A wonderful, easy-going atmosphere with a very haute couture interior that makes it feel pricey, without being too pricey. They serve refreshments, the lobby is tres confortable, and they have great events and discounts that make you want to come back and be part of the Sanctuary fam :)

Plus, the location, though hard to get to, makes it feel like a real "find."

THANKS JUSTIN for the rec. There.

I found out about Sanctuary Salon from my co-worker and decided to give Ayla a try because so many Yelpers have said great things about her.  The prices were also much more reasonable compared to some of the other salons I've been to in the Bay Area.

The location of the salon is a little strange.  It's right in the middle of a neighborhood, so it's a little tricky to find.  But when you walk in it's very clean, well appointed and everyone that works there is very nice (not at all pretentious).

Ayala's personality and attitude are great.  She takes the time to explain to you everything she will be doing with your hair and she genuinely cares about her customers.  I will be honest and say that even though I gave her free reign and allowed her to give me recommendations on how to cut my hair, I wasn't very happy with how my haircut turned out.  However, I called the salon back a few weeks later to see Ayla again and ask her if she could fix some of the issues I had.  She was so sweet and not at all offended, was able to fix my hair and didn't charge me a dime.

Even though my haircut didn't turn out perfect, I'm very pleased with the customer service at Sanctuary Salon and will be seeing Ayla again.

This review is long overdue.  I got my haircut by Louise and she was very attentive with listening to my needs.  She would ask questions to better understand what I wanted to obtain my desired cut.  I came out with a great haircut that was not  too expensive, I believe it costed me $45 not including tip.  Not only that, but they allow one bang trim in between hair cuts and if you come within a certain time frame to the same person, you can get 15% off the next cut, which is really cool.   The only thing I don't like about this place is the location as it is a little tricky, and very limited parking, although there is plentiful street parking.

This is my third update on this place. 5 stars. Again. Is 6 stars, 7 stars an option? Can you tell I love it??!

I recently went to get my hair deliciously cut and styled by Ayla the day before my birthday. Unbeknownst to me, my sweet husband found out about my appointment, and decided to plan an amazing surprise for me -- a chocolate spa manicure at the end of my hair appointment! Knowing that I would never agree to such an extravagant splurge, he sped down there minutes before my appointment, prepaid the entire hair and nail appointments, and strategized with Ayla on how to pull off the grand surprise on me! Then, they snuck him out the back door so that I wouldn't see him as I was coming in. Everyone was soo awesome about it, Ayla did a fabulous job of not giving it away and then building it up, and then surprising me, and I got an amazing manicure by Sophie  that was just to die for!

I just have only good things to say about this place. :)

First and foremost I want to thank Ashlee (my hair stylist)!!

Last Friday was my first time visiting Sanctuary Salon and I was extremely impressed! My friend and I went in together during a girls day and were welcomed by the receptionist, who offered us cookies, espresso, or water with lemon. (It's the little things that matter the most, right!?)

The atmosphere is very pleasant; very cute decor, smells wonderful, and overall very welcoming.

Not more than a minute later, Ashlee came out to greet me and brought me back to her chair. She sat me down and we spent a good ten minutes discussing what I wanted my hair to look like after it was done, how much time I have to style it, what products I use, and what type of hair I have.

During my cut, Ashlee was very thorough and discussed how/what she was cutting, and not once did we have an "awkward silence" that I've unfortunately encountered with a few hair stylists. (That's always the worst when you have nothing to talk about & you just sit there in silence...)

After it was all said and done, I walked out of there feeling very satisfied. Ashlee fixed a bad hair-cut I had a few months prior and gave me a cut that I feel very confident with.

The best part, if you make an appointment before you leave, you get 5% off your next cut!!

So I used to work at Starbucks and this lovely lady Sandy used to come in daily.   Turns out, she's the owner of this salon.

So I saw her one evening before the New Year and I mentioned that I was in need of a massage.  She said she just hired a new massage therapist and I decide to make an appointment within the next few days.   Boy was I glad!  I went to see Nikki for a half hour to test the waters and she was great!  She performed a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue to elminate my stress filled back.  The room setting is great,  good relaxing music etc.  I reccomend Nikki at Sanctuary Salon for a massage for sure.
