everyone is all about the fish taco, yada yada yada. yes it's good, and so is the shrimp taco. but the five-star worthy item on their menu only costs $1.55 - the lengua taco. eat it just regular without the extra stuff. JUST REGULAR. salsa, onions, cilantro, and juicy saucy savory tender delicious lengua.
it is the best lengua taco i've had. ever. period. -
Review from Emily M.
I'd heard about Sancho's for years, but had never visited, seeing as how it's kind of out of the way up in Emerald Hills. One weekend my bf and I decided to try it (he had had many tastinesses from their taco truck and suggested it).
The fish tacos, which apparently they are famous for, were not quite as good as I was expecting. The breading on them was lovely, but I could barely tell I was eating fish. I couldn't taste it or even feel it with my mouth when I was eating it. That was kind of odd. I did like the sauce on them, and the rest of the taco was nice. Their salsa selection was good, and they were not stingy with the tortilla chips.
Admittedly, we were there at an off time (4pm on a Saturday) but the service wasn't the best. The guy behind the counter took forever to finish what he was doing and serve us, and he was quite brusque. I'd be willing to give them another shot, though, at a "normal" time. I'd also like to try their carnitas. -

Nom nom nom.
I love Sancho's, the food here is amazing and I wish I could live in the food. The workers are helpful and really nice. The decorations are very cool, and its just overall a great atmosphere. Great for families too.
My top three favorites are:
1. Fish Tacos...I liked the grilled fish but the deep fried is still delicious.
2. Taco Salad with Chicken: beware it's pretty big being that it comes in a huge taco shell.
3. Carnitas tacos: regular carnitas tacos with cilantro, onions and salsa.
Yummmmmm, writing about it just makes me wanna drive on over to the place and eat. -

Lengua tacos are bombardier! I can eat this all day...
Cheap (1.55/each) and tasty! -

Disclaimer: FIrst negative Yelp review i've given. Tonight was our last time at Sancho's for a good long time. Grosser than gross. The burritos were spilling over in this fatty 'sauce' the chicken was cooked in.....my typically easy going kid turned up his nose. Then we asked for a second burrito NO SAUCE..and again, same thing. And the tortilla soup, is marinara sauce, with tortilla strips sprinkled on top. I'll have to know they have a new kitchen staff before i return. Too bad.

I heart you Sanchos! I want to give you five stars but the grilled chicken you use in your burritos isn't cutting it...it's so dry. Everything else is wonderful and yes, the fish tacos and shrimp quesadillas are really special. Special in a good way.

Went to Sancho's 4 or 5 years ago and had a veggie burrito, but was underwhelmed. Tried it again a few months back and am totally sold. The tacos are awesome. At $1.55 they're a total bargain. The tacos al pastor are some of the best around and they don't even have the rotating cooker thing they usually need. Other tacos are great, too, good marinades, quality tortillas and meats. Had it for lunch and want to go back for dinner! I also own Mexican restaurant, so I'm picky about this type of thing!

The fish tacos are delicious, but what I can't get enough of is the bean and cheese burrito with hot salsa- that's it, simple, delicious, cheap. I could seriously drink their hot salsa- it's perfectly spicy, a little bit smoky, and makes the bean and cheese burrito a legitimate craving.

Yum! My roommate said "OMG I LOVE SANCHOS!!!" I figured what the hey. We showed up... stood in line for a very short time, ordered food for 3 people (1 chimichunga, 3 fish tacos, 1 shrimp taco, 1 horchata, 2 sodas) I think all told it was just over 30 for everything. Food came out relatively fast. Fish tacos were DELISH. The Chimichunga was huge and totally worth 7.55. I didn't try the shrimp one but our friend seemed to melt over it after he took a bite. That there tells me he thought it was darn tasty.
I wish they took credit cards but that's ok.
I'll come back for sure -

Amazing fish tacos and ceviche. My wife likes the shrimp tacos but I think the fried fish tacos are the best.
It gets busy during football games... Be prepared. Oh, and it's cash only, though they have an ATM inside... -

Best. carnitas. ever. Great little place tucked away near Edgewood Park (hiking + tacos = perfect day). Love the street tacos, and my friend loved the fish tacos too. They have Mexican Coke too -the kind made with real sugar not corn syrup. CASH ONLY!

We came here on a whim. We had just finished eating dinner in the area and the Mr. was still not full. I remembered that a friend had recently checked in here so we decided to check it out. The place was poppin' when we got there. We decided to order take out since we had been out all day and were ready to go home. The Mr. ordered a fish taco, carne asada taco, and the super quesadilla with carne asada. I know that everyone raves about their fish tacos, but I only found it so-so. I thought that they had put too much sauce inside and it tasted soggy. The Mr. also thought it was just OK. I did not get to try the carne asada taco, however I did munch on the super quesadilla which I thought were quite tasty. They did not skimp on the meat and there was just enough cheesy gooey-ness inside. Since we don't live in the area, this place is not something that I will probably seek out again. However if we're in town, I may get another serving of that quesadilla!

This is a vegetarian point of view. I am on a bean and cheese burrito hunt. I felt that their B&C was not all that. The beans didn't have a whole lot of flavor. Too much tortilla. Cheese was good, but it is hard to go wrong with cheese. My guess is this place is better at their seafood and meat.
Chips were light and crispy. Salsa was not spicy. What I really liked about this place was their decor. Lots of Dia De Los Muertos all over the walls. Spooky! But alas I can't eat the decor. And the hunt continues. -

There's only one reason to come here, but it's a good reason: The Best Damn Fish Tacos. Period! They're larger than standard-sized tacos and two should be enough to satiate most appetites. The chipotle remoulade they put on it is nothing short of awesome. I can drink that stuff by the gallon. Yes, it's that good!
The only reason I'm giving them four stars is because they only take cash. I mean, really? Who carries cash nowadays? It's 2011 people! -

2 stars may seem a bit unfair to some, but don't get me wrong. I do enjoy Sancho's but only go there for certain menu items, like a fish taco or to get my red chili sauce fix. For other items I will go to one of the many other taquerias in RWC. But my kids love the food, I live down the street, and I know I will be full when I leave.
The items I order when at Sancho's:
Fish tacos - they are as good as people say they are.
Brent's veggie quesadilla. Not just for veggie-eaters.
Super nachos with that tasty red chili sauce. Even the proverbial Guy Fieri flip-flop would taste good with that red sauce on it.
When I want "authentic Mexican food" I don't go to Sancho's. But when I want a huge fish taco or that red chili sauce, there's nowhere better. If they accepted credit cards I'd probably give them another star.
Don't hate me because I'm honest, Sancho's management. I'll still be back often. Just the way it goes sometimes.Listed in: My Neighborhood

We ordered two different things. A chimichanga and fish tacos.
The fish tacos were really good. Great flavor. Fish was nice and tender too. Delicioso!
The chimichanga, however, was just too much for the two of us. It was too much food. It was pretty good, but not amazing. I think it was just too "wet" for me.
Great place to get some food and hang out. Free chips! -

Get the fish tacos. That's really all there is to it. I've tried a ton of items on the menu, and they're all pretty good, but almost every time I wish I had gotten the fish tacos. Like everyone else on here says, they are hands down delicious.
It's cash only and gets pretty busy on weekends, so call ahead if you want a quick in and out to go. Yumm -
Review from L B.
Santa Clara, CA
As others have said the fish tacos are outstanding, but that's where the fun ends. The restaurant is very small, the tables are jammed together, it's noisy and not terribly clean. If you're looking for a place where you can relax and have a conversation while you eat, then you've come to the wrong place. Sancho's is best for those who want to eat and run. If Sancho's opened a comfortable, sit-down restaurant, I would probably come every day (or at least every week). As it is, I get my fish taco fix here about once a month.
Pros:
Fantastic fish tacos
Inexpensive
Cons:
Tables & chairs are uncomfortable and too close together
Noisy
Counter service is unfriendly
Cash only
Salsas are tasteless -
Review from Cherie S.
I found this place because "Sanchos" popped up on my GPS when I was jonesing for Mexican food. Sancho (Mexican slang) is the male version of a mistress. In other words, if your woman (or man) has a sancho, you best be coming to this joint to drown your sorrows in cold draft beer the best damn fish tacos in Northern California.
The fresh white fish (red snapper) in Sancho's fish taco is delicately battered and served on a warm flour tortilla with a chipotle remoulade. (I'm not sure what the French word "remoulade" is doing on my Mexican fish taco--but who cares, it tastes good.)
If you're on a healthy kick, you can get your fish grilled and they also have salads. Two fish tacos ($3.95 each) are enough for a meal. The salsas are fresh and delicious (from mild to smoky-and-hot), so don't miss the salsa bar.
They have 8 choices of meat--but who needs meat when you have the best fish tacos around? I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but you should get the fish tacos. The only reason NOT to get the fish tacos is if you're a vegetarian. If you don't eat meat, there are choices for you like veggie burritos, veggie tacos and veggie tostadas.
The décor is bright (yellow and orange) with Día de los Muertos decorations and about fifteen tables and four stools at the "bar." They only serve wine and beer, so don't come expecting a margarita.
Final thought: the word sancho is actually derived from the Latin "sanctius" which means 'sacred'. That brings up THE GREAT FEAR of some getting 'sacred' with your spouse while you're feasting on fish tacos at Sancho's. Let this little restaurant be the only Sancho in your life.
Yeah: They use recyclable take-out containers instead of Styrofoam.
Boo: They don't have limes for the beer. It's "cerveza con limón". Limes not lemons!
Note: Accepts cash or check only, but there's an ATM inside ($2.50 service fee.) -

Mediocre Mexican food. The fish taco is the only thing good.
Overcharged me $6 and later denied it. Not hard to do when you don't print out receipts.

Was in Belmont and craving fish taco's. Checked Yelp and this place was not too far away and had good reviews.
Thank you Yelpers for the heads up on the great fish tacos! Had the fried fish ones and they were crazy good!
Lightly battered chunks of white fish with the cabbage and great sauce in a thin, flour tortilla. Larger than fish taco's I've had elsewhere and two was enough to satisfy..... -

I have Sancho's cravings every now and then (ok....more like....almost every week) and my only 2 real complaints are:
1) cash only
2) wish they stayed opened later (I tend to have my cravings after 9:00pm)
Great food, good atmosphere (a little loud when there are big groups) and reasonable prices.

I used to love Sanchos. It was my staple for tacos. And I hate to say this now, but there is no flavor in their meat. For the second time in a row, I ordered food to go to arrive there to have them tell me that they don't have it. There food is over-priced and they only accept cash. Before I could overlook all this, but I'm sorry. I just ate half of the most unsatisfying burrito of my life. Yea, I'm not over-exaggerating. I swear they boiled the chicken and just chopped it up and threw it in a tortilla.

Not the most authentic Mexican food I've ever had, but I'm happy to call this place my local taqueria and visit frequently. I love their traditional tacos, but I actually find their fish tacos, their claim to fame, a little heavy. Still, zipping down the hill to this place on a Friday night after a long week is always a good experience. GREAT customer service too...I came up a dollar short on my bill the last time I was there, and rather than making me go pull a $20 out of the ATM, they spotted me. Really a charming atmosphere.

I'm feeling this establishment for a grip of reasons, ALL from 1st impressions.
-Day of the Dead Decorations / Huge Chalk Board Menu
-Honest Cashier (She accidentally rang up a burrito instead of a taco & I didn't notice / She came back & refunded my money & told me how she messed up)
-Fresh Chips & The salsa(s) = ballistic flavors -

Still the best fish tacos place ever. Been here at least another 8 times since my original review. Just make sure you get the grilled fish tacos.

BIG fish tacos. I mean, a small burrito kinda BIG. Fried fish and toppings in it were super yummy. Everybody loved it. It's definitely a must try.
Their other tacos are pretty standard sized. I found their carne asada a bit meh -- I can find better at taco trucks. Their chips and salsa were pretty standard too, nothing you can't find anywhere else.
But those fish tacos...damn. -

San Mateo, CA
Been here several times and have brought a lot of friends and family here. The main reason for that being this place has without a doubt the best fish taco's ive had anywhere. Not sure what makes theres the best, maybe its the zesty tarter sauce or the tater tot looking pieces of fish, but they are delish! For a healthier option with still great taste try it grilled. There shrimp tacos are also really good as well.
Now you might ask why 4 stars? seems like i really like this place and recommend it to a lot of people, so why take away one star? Well the taco's are the only thing I have eatin here that is above average and i probably wont be ordering anything besides the tacos from here any more. (mostly because I dont come here that often so why waste my time on anything but the best items they have) -
Review from Shannon L.
Fremont, CA
One of the cleanest taco trucks I have seen, both on the inside and outside. Maybe they're just getting into the truck scene but I can tell that there is quality to the food and to the making of it.
They actually came to our work to cater a private lunch for us. There were a variety of tacos you could get (chicken, carne asada, red snapper) and you could put it on either corn or flour tortillas with all the fixings. They do make the fish tacos for you and unfortunately they put it on flour tortillas which I'm not really a fan of and because they're bigger so you end up eating too much. Like most fish tacos, they top it with a creamy sauce that isn't too spicy. I don't think I was blown away by this taco overall but I appreciated that it tasted fresh.
Chicken was also a little dry but it's nothing that some bell peppers (fajita style), guac, sour cream, and salsa can't mask. The people were incredibly friendly and even their attempt at presentation (imitation stone pots) was noted. Nothing beats unlimited food at a taco truck. -

Fish tacos!
Yeah, they weren't kidding...best fish tacos that I've had here in the Bay Area. Their al pastor is also seriously addicting!!
We came on a Friday afternoon, the place was packed. Service was a bit slow, but considering the number of people and the fact that your food is made when you order it, I'm not going to let that get in the way of a solid 4.5 stars!
Hell yeah I'll be back! -
Review from Cassy R.
4 stars! No way! A group of us, 5 to be exact, were feeling up for an adventurous journey south to go mini-golfing. What better way to start this adventure than margaritas and Mexican food!
Well, strike 1..no margaritas! Strike 2...flavorless and saltless chips with lame salsa. They had three levels of tongue stinging salsa. The mild and medium were as spicy as milk and the spicy version was more smokey. I love hot and spicy and especially chips and salsa, so I was close to throwing a fit. I was hoping for flavor redemption with a tasty chicken plus veggie taco. Instead, I got a soggy tortilla with flavorless meat and veggies. Drain the beans people!
A casual poll from my 4 companions resulted in a unanimous agreement of thumbs down. Entered from their evaluations included fish tacos, a quesadilla and shrimp ceviche. We quickly scurried to mini-golf to save our adventure from peril. -

Make sure to bring your GPS to help navigate you through Redwood City's residential neighborhoods to a remote shopping plaza for some tasty Cal-Mex bargain bite eats. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
Came here to try their famous fish taco ($4). I like how there's a good amount of battered and fried fish chunks. Two could probably fill a person up, I could probably finish 5. The tacos are drizzled with this chipotle mayo spread that reminded me of Rubio's fish tacos. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) Definitely good but Dia De Pesca's fish tacos are still my favorite in the Bay.
Sancho's is a step up from your typical no frills taqueria as the interior is colorful, family friendly, and I like the Dia de los Muertos decorations. They cater to the neighborhood since the tv had the Giants game instead of Telemundo or futbol. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
The food, just like the interior, may not be the most authentic but is presented nicely. Mostly everything on the menu is less than $10. (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
I'm not sure if I'd be back given it's location but it's a nice taqueria to play it safe with. 3.5 star grub with a 4 star family friendly atmosphere/look.
If you like this place, you would probably also like Ceviche Taqueria in San Mateo or Papalote in SF.Listed in: Bargain bites, Good Mexican Eats, Fan of Fish Tacos

Yelp told me about this Mexican restaurant.
I was a bit worried because it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere on the map, but it turned out to be a pretty good restaurant.
We wanted the fish tacos but they didn't have any fried fish today, so we had the super nachos. I'd have to admit that I haven't been to too many Mexican restaurants, but this was a very tasty super nachos. Very good salsa (fresh tasty tomatoes), good guacamole, and a lot of nachos for a pretty fair price.
We're definitely going back for the fish tacos. -

Wow.. Bomb food. Best battered fish tacos I've ever had in my life, still can't get the taste of their epic burritos out of my mouth, and its the only place I've found packets of tapatillo sauce.
Bomb food, great service. Been here a hundred times and they've never screwed an order.

Honestly, one of my favorite places to go when I am home from school. The fish tacos are amazing and so is there super steak burrito. My mom recently told me to try the shrimp tacos and I was just floored. They come with veggies, shrimp, and I usually ask for 2 flour tortillas because there is enough in one taco to make two. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good taqueria and great service.

LOVE this place!
I find myself craving their food! They have amazing Tacos Pescado (fish tacos), Carnitas burritos and their Chicken Mole is very tasty too!
This a great place to go on a warm evening and sit outside and enjoy. Or on a chilly night!
I typically leave with leftovers though! I can never finish my whole meal! -

I tried Sancho's because I was looking for a good local Mexican place, but after the take-out we got tonight I think I'm better off with the San Carlos Baja Fresh. I ordered a carne asada super burrito, hoping for the best. Sadly, the meat was that grisly, unappetizing type you sometimes get at taquerias that don't pride themselves on their meat quality, and the tortilla itself was limp, flabby, and tasteless.
The fish tacos might be astounding, but this burrito was not good. -

4.5 stars.
Love the ambiance! Great service and super friendly staff. Place is well-lit, clean, uniquely decorated.
Ordered grilled fish tacos (due to all the Yelp rage) and a lengua burrito. To be honest, the tacos were just meh for me. The fish was cooked to perfection, but I wasn't too crazy about the sauce.
As for the burrito, lengua = cow tongue. As someone who eats anything and everything, this sounded way too interesting to pass up...and it didn't disappoint! The meat was tender and juicy, and the burrito was massive!!! I was stuffed after scarfing down just half of it but would have been tempted to finish it off were I not sharing with my sister xP
Needless to say, I will be a regular here. -

I've got a secret - I get around. No, not in the man whore way (although recent behavior may suggest otherwise) What I mean is I'll go to great lengths to get some good Mexican food. I frequent taquerias in the city, went to school in Arizona, and have eaten my way around Austin and Mexico on recent vacations. And the best Mexican food that I've had lately was in...a strip mall in Redwood City?
Here's the scenario - family dinner on the peninsula to send my oldest nephew off to college (tangent...David, good luck at U of A!!!) First thing my sister tells me is that I need to try the fish tacos - they have grilled and fried so I order one of each. I also notice an ala carte tamale tucked away on the back page of the menu so I order one as well. As the food arrived my sister eagerly dug in to my tamale...she proclaimed it the best tamale she's ever had. I was skeptical until I took a bite but I have to admit, it was pretty damn good (sorry for cheating, Tina Tamale!) As for the fish tacos...they were great as well. The fried fish taco featured chunks of lightly fried fish (which I prefer over one piece of fish fried) and the grilled was as tasty as advertised.
The chips and salsa were just ok but with food this good, I really have little to complain about. When I visit my friends in Austin or my nephew in Tucson I'll make sure and try the local Mexican cuisine again. But I have a feeling that I'll end up saying "This is good but you gotta try this place in Redwood City!"Listed in: Review of the Day? Yes way!
