Karaoke with Elvis Saturday nights is not to be missed. This place is great, it feels like a family-run establishment with different people popping up in different roles all over the place (if they have vacancy, you can get a room from the bartender if you get there late night). And they all sing at karaoke. This is a great place to sing karaoke en espanol too, but I sang Summer Nights with Elvis and it was kind of priceless.
I had a blast and will definitely return for a trip up the hill to Hearst Castle.
There are many high end places you could stay at around the San Simeon area but if you are looking for a nice, quiet place to spend the night, at a reasonable price...this place does the job.
I can only give you a review of this place from an experience I had 3 years ago. My girlfriend and I were on a week long Highway 1 road trip. I believe we stayed here on a Wednesday night at a price of $80.00. We were lucky to get an upper floor room with somewhat of a view of the ocean. The room was clean and the bed was super soft and comfortable. We were able to watch the sunset from our room.
For the price, this place gives you a total bang for your buck.
(on a side note, if you plan to eat here in the Lodge, be ready to shell out $30+ per plate for dinner...)

Contrary to a prior review, I would not call this place quiet at all. You can hear a normal conversation in the next room. And when the little snotheads run in the hallway, the entire room shakes. Otherwise, the place is fine as a motel, a good value ($65 for 2 queens on 1/2 fri night) clean, free wifi, nice check-in area and staff, 10% discount coupons to the adjoining, average, overpriced (but par for San Simeon) restaurant. It is across the highway from the ocean but there is no property on the other side, so you do get an ocean view in certain sections.

I failed to book a room the night before so we took off on the 1 with no reservation and San Simeon came through for us. The staff was very warm and kind as they still served us dinner when we got there right at 10 (they close at 10). We had to walk through the karaoke bar to get to the restaurant and I was surprised by how packed it was. Everyone was really enthusiastic as they often seem to be when you live in the middle of nowhere. At first glance, the room seemed pretty standard...actually pretty good for the $99 rate we paid: we got 2 double beds, tv, fully standard bathroom but upon further review, after we took our socks off, the carpet was...moist/sticky and basically really really needs cleaning. I'll also echo the sentiments that the acoustics here suck - the room next to us was showering and it was so loud I thought that our shower was on. I am however very appreciative of how they managed to pull through for us on the same day but it's downfalls speak to why they still had vacancy.
Be sure to ask for an upstairs room. The acoustics in this place are terrible. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, however pillows could use replacing. Towels are really hard so watch your skin.
So, why did we stay here, a second time mind you? Because it is cheap, it is AAA rated, it has a really good handicap room, and it sits right across the street from the beach. The rooms are set up with two bedrooms so you do have some privacy if you are traveling with friends, as I was. The staff is very pleasant and helpful.
However, if we didn't need the handicapped room, I think I'd look for a different place.
This was the only place my husband & I could get for 1 night in the Big Sur area. There aren't many frills & you could hear people stomping around above you, but the bed is comfortable & for a place to sleep after a long day of hiking, this place was fine.
If you want to make your way from SF through Big Sur to hike the southern parts of Big Sur (e.g., Jade Cove or Sand Dollar Beach), anywhere in San Simeon is ideal.
