I've discovered a new use for this place..LUNCH!
Thanks to MLK Day, I was able to spend a Monday Funday with one of my best friends, and we wanted to go get lunch. Puesta Del Sol was closed, so we wound up here. Normally, I can't stand it at night, especially when a big game is on. Place is just a zoo.
But during Monday lunch, we practically had the place to ourselves. LOVED the "$12 lunch pitcher special," (so fun and indulgent to even say that phrase.) Bummed we missed the pale ale, but the IPA was good, much better than the Red. Tried the calamari salad, one of their signature items, and it was very good indeed. Also very good server who did a great job meeting the need of my kids. -

went here the other day for a lazy sunday lunch. standards were set low and that's basically what i got, nothing to write home about.
ordered the reuben sandwich and it lacked any flavor except for the butter that was on the outside of the bread. they had a decent selection of beer, but none of their own...? on the back of their menu they list ten different beers that they have won awards for over the past two years, yet you can't order any of them. am i missing something?
servers, however, were very friendly and attentive even with it being fairly crowded during the football games. food came out within ten minutes of ordering.
i hear they have bands on friday and saturday nights so i would probably just skip the food next time and enjoy the beers. Of which. . . select craft drafts are only $3.75. That's unheard of for me down in the OC. -

This place ROCKS!!!! The Penne P.V. is one of my faves and is delicious. I suggest washing it down with a nice cold Bruin Blonde-YUM!YUM!
I really enjoy that the owner is very outgoing and heavily involved in the community.
They have live entertainment and a DJ on the weekends. One stop for good food, tasty beverages and good times!!! -
Review from Jason K.
As many people have mentioned, http://Restaurant.com gift certificates for $1 and change makes this place worth checking out for sure. My wife and I are beer drinkers. Good beer. Fans of it. So we figured discount + beer + 3.5 star average reviews on Yelp must = a good dinner right? Well, it was OK.
We went on a rainy Sunday evening. The place was probably the only one with people inside on the whole block, and it was decently occupied at that. A UCLA/USC basketball game was on TV as was some NFL stuff. We appreciated the Bruins decor, but there was a USC jersey and plaque on the wall right next to us, so whoever is reviewing this place with negative scores just because it's a Bruin establishment should really reconsider their positive contribution to the Yelp community.
We sat ourselves at a table for two and checked out the drink menu. Soon we were greeted by one of the servers. She was very nice and took our drink orders. My wife ordered a glass of the blonde and I got the sampler with six 5 oz. tastings. The blonde had slight hoppy notes with a bit of sweetness at the end, but was smooth and drinkable. A good blonde. The rest of the 5 were also pretty good. The lager and red were probably my second and third favorites, while the black lager and hefe tied for fourth, followed by the Pale Ale (I'm not a hops guy). Good beer in general though. The mixed cocktails also looked good for those not so into beer.
After getting our drinks we ordered our food and here's how it turned out:
Tortilla soup - Not like a conventional tortilla soup. It was almost more of a bean soup in consistency. Thick and kind of grainy. Very hearty, but surprisingly tasty. It tasted like a normal tortilla soup, but just didn't seem chicken stock based. It was covered with shredded cheese and tortilla strips. A very filling bowl for $6.
Jalapeno poppers - Eight poppers on a long plate served with ranch dressing (can't argue with their choice of sides). Decent sized and fried nice and crisp, though not nearly as toasty hot inside as one would normally expect. Also, they chose a cheddar cheese instead of the usual cream cheese or whatever white cheese is standard. The jalapenos had a little kick, but not a ton. Ultimately, they gave off the taste of being pre-frozen to my wife, so not amazing.
Tri-Tip Sandwich - I wish I could say I found this as enjoyable as I would have expected given the other Yelp reviews. The steak was overcooked a little bit, which made it too chewy to bite while in the sandwich. I had to pull it out and cut it with fork and knife. It was also pretty bland, but dipping a little in ranch dressing helped alleviate that. The sourdough bread was just, seemingly, normal white toast. The bottom piece was soaked through (never a joyful discovery when picking up a sandwich). It came with a side of tomato, lettuce, pickles, and red onions for those that like more produce. Kind of a disappointing sandwich, unfortunately.
Gaffey fries - I got these with the tri-tip. Ultimately, these were pretty good while still warm. Cheesy, salty from the bacon bits, chives, and covering tasty fries with a side of ranch. Not too shabby, though I took most of them home because I was so stuffed after half of the sandwich and the bowl of soup.
BLT and A - Ordered with the bacon well done for my wife. She liked it in general. A nice balance of ingredients, but said the bread was just a little too thin for the sandwich.
Garlic fries - They weren't joking. These are garlicy. Tasty in that way. Fries had a nice texture overall, and went well with ranch dressing (it's the European mayo people!). Also taken home as leftovers.
The total came to $35 after $25 discount and mandatory 18% gratuity before discount. Not a bad deal considering we took half of the food to go, though none of it can be considered healthy :-p
Summary: Friendly service. Rapid on a Sunday night. Good beer. Recommend the blonde and red. Parking is metered if between 8am and 6pm on every day but Sunday. Food is...ok. Fries in their various forms are solid, but the BLT and tri-tip sandwich didn't impress, unfortunately. We have one more gift cert, so we'll be back at least once more, and will likely stick to drinks and fries. -
Review from Sheila G.
From the looks of the outside, I didn't expect much, but the old saying "You can't tell a book by its cover" sure rings true.
In anticipation of our SoCal jaunt, we had printed out a few http://restaurant.com certificates, and one of them was for SPBC. We were seated in a comfy half-booth against the back wall of the restaurant, and it was quiet enough. I was surprised by the extensive menu.
I ordered the Red Chile Rubbed Salmon with Corn Vinaigrette, and got fresh veggies and Spicy Mac & Cheese for my sides. The salmon was very good, though it didn't have the kick I expected from the red chile. The corn vinaigrette, though, did add a really good note to the dish. I would have liked the broccoli cooked a bit more; many people like it raw, but I'm not one of them. I'm not a huge fan of Mac & Cheese, but ordered it because of the word "spicy." It was very rich, too much for my taste, and I didn't encounter much in the way of spice. Hubby had the Santa Maria Tri-Tip Platter, and loved it. I tasted it, and it was terrific. He also had a SoCal Tattoo Chocolate Porter and, while not usually a fan of dark beer, he really liked it. I had a glass of house wine which, at $5.00, is reasonable by today's standard.
Our waitress was very friendly and efficient, which added overall to our good experience at this restaurant.
One note: a table of young people who didn't look old enough to drink (though four out of five were) ordered Beergaritas. I sure haven't lived a sheltered life, but this was the first time I've ever seen one of them, and had to ask to find out that it was a Margarita in a big goblet, with a mini upside-down Corona sticking out of the glass. What will they think of next? -

The food made this restaurant a 4, but service would have made it a 3.5.
We chose to sit outside and were told the table would be cleared right away. We sat down and it was easily 5-10 minutes before anyone came by and she only wiped down part of the table.
Our server took orders of 2 other tables who arrived after us and finally made her way to us. We had the Shanghai Red and it was really good-definitely on par with other brew pubs I've been to and the price was good for the area. The iced tea was a fake mango cinnamon and just wasn't appetizing and thankfully was removed from the ticket.
The kids' meal chicken fingers were fresh & real chicken, and a fair price including a drink for these types of restaurants.
The pulled pork sandwich had a nice tangy, smoky BBQ flavor and was huge. Garlic fries were nice without being too seasoned. The corned beef reuben was loaded with meat and had a great slaw on it to give a fresh twist.
We had to ask for our check and our waitress had never come back to check on us.
All in all, the food and beer were great, but service needed a lot of work. -

I was taken to this Brewery on my birthday and I was also given the Brew Tour by the owner/Brew Master. This place is pretty awesome.
I did not like the particular waitress I got to serve me, she charged my the wrong beer and then did not give me the happy hour price. I had to flag her down and let her know.
The food was ok, i only got stuff from the happy hour and I was happy. -

I'm not really sure if they have a great menu here, because I've only tried one item! The first time I came here I had the seared ahi tuna sandwich and it was so good I've never tried anything else! It's served open-faced with avocado, caramelized onions, tomatoes and lettuce, and has a sesame ginger dressing on the side. YUMMMMM!! :) The beer's not too bad either- but go for the blonde.
I also really enjoy the ambiance- the exposed brick walls, the paintings of the Vincent Thomas Bridge and harbor, photos of old San Pedro and the port... and while usually I'm there when a football game is on a couple months back we were watching Cuff'd at the bar, and rolling on the floor laughing. If you haven't seen this unintentionally funny MTV train-wreck of a reality show yet, do yourself a favor- find the one where the teen gets banned from Hooters. For life! Good times :) -

I used to like this place. But, after a birthday party I attended, it has lost all of it's luster.
What is totally crappy are that they are super stingy with alcohol in mixed drinks...and they aren't even cheap!
Sorry SPBC, I'll drink your so-so craft beer, but I'm never ordering a cocktail from you again. -

My wife and I went there a month ago and have no reason to go back. We went there to try the in house brew but it was not available. Tha staff was not having a good day and it made us feel that we where intruding. Nice place but not a place that we would not like to revisit. I hope they read the real reviews so that the could make it into a place you would return to.

This place is great! I suggest the Gaffey Fries and a Bruin Blonde - not diet food but will satisfy your savory craving. I also enjoy the calamari, ceviche and PV Penne.
The owner is very community oriented and I can always count on him to help out my son's school for a fundraiser too! -

I've come here a few times and its an OK place to stop by if your in the neighborhood and grab something to eat. I've tried the bruschetta and it was a good size portion for 2 and good price ($10). They have a decent happy hour with OK drink specials. I've tired the beer-garita and it was surprisingly good, it was a Margarita with a mini corona on top.

My friend and I stumbled across this place during my trip to LA earlier this summer. We both had a pint a beer to start, followed by their beer sampler. I don't remember everything that came in the sampler, but out of the six I enjoyed the Point Fermin Pale Ale and Longshoreman Lager the most. My friend who usually prefers darker beers really liked the Harbor Hefeweizen.
We also got the Hot Artichoke & Spinach Dip and "The Absolute Best Baby Back Ribs" to go, which were both amazing. Really good flavor without being too salty, and the portions were just right for two people.
We didn't stick around long enough for the live band to show up, but I'm guessing it gets pretty crackin' late into the night. There's a decent amount of seating space, and the waitresses were all super friendly. I really liked my waitress because she complimented me on my Hello Kitty purse, and we got to chatting about the pub's manager and Canadian beers.
Superb service and good beer. Will definitely visit again if I'm ever in the area! -

San Pedro, CA
This review is long overdue. I think SPBC serves up some of the best food in San Pedro, the problem is their servers. I came here with a group of friends one night and we got sat in what seems like the spot they put 20 somethings and under because they think we won't tip. I've been put in this location before when I came with my brother and yeah if you put me in a shitty spot and ignore me and take forever to get my check I'm not going to tip. This is exactly what happened this night and me and my friends were fed up and decided not to tip. We get the check and see that because we were a party of 6+ the tip was already included. This is a vicious cycle, and I'm sick of waiters and waitresses putting young people in the shittiest parts of a restaurant, giving them the shittiest of service and then being shocked when we don't tip. I gladly pay my tip and throw a 5 or something in the tip jar at places like Mishi's or Louie's in Wilmington. What sucks is that the food is AMAZING. I came one time after this experience because my uncle was paying and lol I wasn't gonna turn down a free meal. It was delicious as always and we were given pretty damn good service. I just can't bring myself to spend my hard earned money here when I know it'll be a 2-3 hour affair of waiting on the waiter, worst of all it'll be because of my age.

Outstanding beers. Outstanding burgers. And the service is usually pretty great too. Our go to place when we don't feel like cooking and want some comfort food.
The burgers taste like meat! That's kinda rare these days it seems.
Beer sampler is highly recommended. -

Stopped by to see a friend that was performing here
Service - Security and the bartenders were all cool
Food/Drinks - Only $4.50 for a glass of whiskey on ice and they're not stingy with the pour count
Misc. - $3 cover charge (I don't think they usually have one though); Good sound system; The crowd was a good mix and everyone was there to have a good time -

This past week-end was the first time I've ever been here. I will not be returning. I probably would have given it higher marks if I had a drink but all I had was their food.
My boyfriend and I ate dinner here. I had their cobb salad. It listed chicken as a ingredient, but there was none in there at all! The bacon was bacon bits and it was strewn all over my salad. It was okay but the missing chicken was a huge disappointment.
I didn't bother telling our waitress which I should have, but I didn't want to wait any longer for my meal - plus do I REALLY have to point out the fact that one of your main ingredients was missing?
My boyfriend had their pork chop special. It was dry and tough to cut.Comment from James B. of San Pedro Brewing Company 12/16/2011

The decor is really cool and we were seated promptly. The staff was nice and checked in on us regularly. The beer was cold, but not ice cold. Ice cold is always better. The beer tasted ok, I'm accustomed to RRBC and Lagunitas so I guess I'm spoiled that way. The artichoke and spinach dip was really good and the pico de gallo was amazing! The fish and chips was disappointing. It tasted like something had been burnt earlier that night in the fryer. My wife only ate half her sandwich and drank half her beer. All in all a "meh" experience.

After a nice hike in Palos Verdes, my friends and I decided to try this local place. It's a cozy little brewery in the heart of San Pedro. However, at least 3 items in the menu were not available. The waitress kept coming back from the kitchen after she tried to place our order. Apparently, she wasn't very informed about what they didn't serve that afternoon. It's an ok-place if you're not very picky, but I've had better beer and better service. Hope they do a better job next time.

Went in and seated ourselves, it took a short wait to receive our menu's but there was no worry, we were not in a hurry. We ordered the beer sampler which was actually a pretty good deal. It was only $7.50 and came with six 5 ounce samples. The beer was not the best we had ever tasted but it was adequate. We both like the Hefeweizen and hubby also like the Shanghai red Ale. It took a long time for the food to arrive but the waitress had a lot of tables and was doing her best to keep up. Our food came out; I had the Rueben and hubby had the Patty Melt. The food was actually pretty tasty. The Patty Melt tasted like a homemade burger and came with all of the toppings. The Rueben was especially tasted; it had coleslaw in it and the corned beef was some of the best I'd ever had. I would certainly come back here if we are ever in the area.
We came back again......This time with my hubby's family. Started with cheese toast and marinara with the jalapeño poppers...both were satisfactory. I couldn't help myself and ordered the Rueben again and hubby did the same......guess it really was good My father in law ordered the rack of ribs....oh wow that was a ton of food......looked pretty good too. -

Great find!
We regularly go to an art gallery down the street from the San Pedro Brewing Company, and every time we go, I would see the warm glow from the windows here and wonder if it was any good. I'm so glad we finally stopped in!
I got the chili-rubbed salmon, with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Delicious! Good fish, well-prepared; light, awesome potatoes and perfectly done broccoli. My husband the shrimp & chips, which are also terrific. I don't usually like those, but the batter was tasty & not too greasy. Nice!
Add a glass of the very-pleasant Angels Gate ale and the genuine friendliness of the waitress, and we felt like welcome regulars on our very first visit. We'll definitely go back! -
Review from Kelly W.
Came here yesterday with a girlfriend for lunch and I ordered the Penne PV (chicken and veggie pasta) and she ordered the shrimp linguine. Both dishes were really good but not worth almost $15.00 each.
For those prices they should give a little better service. My iced tea was never refilled and it took a long time to bring out the food. Considering you have to pay a parking meter to dine here you would think that speedy service would be important to them...but it's not.
I still like this place and will return but they are not worth more than 3 stars...Listed in: San Pedro's Jewels

Admittedly, this is one of the better breweries I've been to in the L.A. area, and I also concede that I have been to only a handful in southern California. Taking that, and that I hale from the ganglion of the microbrew scene, my review may be slightly skewed.
San Pedro Brewing may garner more stars if all I had was their beer. Indeed, the "Bruin Blonde" surprised me as one of the better blondes I've ever had. My friends all agreed that the beer wasn't half bad.
Alas, San Pedro Brewing does so much more than beer, and they do it poorly. One of the people at my table had a cocktail so bad, I had to get another beer to wash the taste out of my mouth.
The food wasn't any better. Being that close to the harbor I was expecting some fresh seafood, but the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was frozen last winter sometime. And who puts cheddar cheese in Jalapeno poppers? Perhaps its just the appetizer menu that is this bad as the people had the Chili rubbed salmon, and they said it was great.
If I find my self in San Pedro again, I may stop for a beer, but for food I'm going down to the little places down on the docks. -

San Pedro Brewing Company.... Meh...
I've come here on countless occasions but have never been totally thrilled about the whole place. The food is decent and decently priced. However, what makes me give this place only a 2 star rating is that the beers are mediocre and seems to always cost me my left testicle. BEWARE of the Hefeweizen! This is typically my beer genre of choice and the pitcher we ordered was sooooooo terrible we sent it back. I'm totally against Hefs having lame-o fruit in them, but this Hef not only had lemon slices, but also a arsenal of taste bud depraving crap in it that i felt like I needed a tongue implant to fix the ungodly damage done to my body. Sweet Jesus, San Pedro Brewing Company, please take this off your arsenal of mediocre beers so that you might, just might, actually get some better ratings. -

I am down with Pedro and I love that the proprietor of this establishment is also a Pedro resident. It's also a decent full-bar with a knowledgeable bartender and a good selection of home brewed beers. And the owner should capitalize on that, maybe bottle a few dozen cases a couple times a year. I would love to be able to buy a sixer and take it home.
The menu is diverse and has some really good, stand out meals. The burgers are great and I really like the seared ahi appetizer, but their ribs are lackluster and the meats not up to par. The fish and chips, hard to screw up, are decent but not great and other items are fairly run of the mill. In other words, this isn't a place you visit for the food.
The atmosphere is pure sports bar, although there is a small "stage" (floor area really), where mediocre cover bands play forgettably loud music. Dark woods and dark greens dominate the decor which I like but it might be nice if there was an area one could escape the blasting music and glaring TV screens (there is actually, it's called Nikos, just up the street.) Maybe I'm just getting old but it would be nice to hear your table mate talk while your enjoying dinner and drinks.
In short, this is not a place for you and the wife (unless she too is a die hard sports fan.) This is not a place for you and the family. This IS a place to get your drunk on and have a burger and fries with some hard working dock workers and some really good Pedro folk. Look, not everyplace is about the food. And this is a solid 3, predictable, decent and friendly, well worth a visit. -

I went in with some family for lunch. Love the ambiance and love the beers. I had the red-chile rubbed salmon. Honestly, it wasn't that great. It just tasted like it was barbecued. I mean for $16.95 I can grill my own. I also had the spicy mac n' cheese. (no spice at all). Maybe I need to give it another try with another dish. TBC.

Ive been here a few times & have always been happy until Sunday night. We sat at the bar and I've never had such bad service from a bartender, (Sean) first he takes our drink order and brings our drinks and set them on the bar, bare. No napkins, no coasters, nothing. The margaritas tasted like minute maid juice. Very bitter, not much alcohol at all. Not wanting to be rude, we said nothing and did not send the drinks back, instead we simply ordered shots of patron. Never have I ever seen a shot served like this! Served in a rock glass, not a shot glass, again with no napkin, no salt, no lime, NOTHING! A shot of patron?! The bar was not very crowded at all, & for some reason we still had the hardest time getting his attention when we needed something. Never have I seen a bartender serve drinks like that, very dissapointed in the service. Not sure if he even is a bartender, maybe he was a last minute fill in?? The food was okay, but Either way, not happy for what we paid for AT ALL that night.

Yelp sticker in their window! See the photo I took yesterday.
This is a very attractive place, inside & out. It maintains the charming vintage image of its historic arts district setting.
Check out the photo of the ceiling, my best view from my table.
I had the Angus cheeseburger (pictured) and I chose potato salad from a list of several sides. Good choice. It was made from skin-on red potatoes in big chunks.
The tasty burger was plenty large, and filled up this person who hadn't eaten all day as usual.
Service was fine.
I didn't find much not to like about San Pedro Brewing. The surrounding neighborhood absolutely rocks....galleries, cool shops, the wharf just down the street. Come and spend the day.
More and more Yelp stickers are showing up in the windows 'round here! At this rate, someday I might have to stand in line to get into my fave little places.......Listed in: Casual Dining, Viva San Pedro!

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I love breweries and brewpubs as much or more than my own family. San Pedro Brew Co. is a cute little brick building brewery on Sixth, about a block away from my boyfriend's work. I went there with a gift card from http://restaurant.com thinking I was going to eat. I changed my mind and just got some apps with my bff. And beer, of course, we got beer. And lots of it. Luckily we were there for happy hour and the pitchers were $14, the pints were $3.75, and prompt service with a smile was free.
Summer = strawberry beers for me. I tried theirs and it did not disappoint. We also tried the pale ale and the blonde. All of which were pretty good brews I would have ordered again. Not mind blowing beer that makes you wanna get nekked and pregnant but definitely the kind that makes you wanna drink more and eat more. So, we got two appetizers; the chicken potstickers and the spinach and artichoke dip. Both were good but nothing to write a love letter home about . The service here was excellent! When we walked in at 2:30 p.m. on a Monday, the bar and the restaurant was nearly empty. We had great service, even once happy hour was close to ending and the restaurant was starting to fill up, we were well taken care of and never rushed to leave. I love that!
I will definitely come back to enjoy some more delicious beer and dinner.......I never did use my gift card.......I wonder where that thing is, it's about time for the happiest hour of the day now......... -

Some of the best microbrews in so*cal [and don't take my word for it... their brewmaster wins awards ALL over cali].
Fantastic food ... a little pricey [but who bitches about paying a decent price for a perfectly cooked piece of salmon or some seared tuna appetizer?]
this is the place to be if you're in for a heff and some pub chips, or a bud and the football game... super local, but friendly to everyone. live music, special events and the game is always playing.
