The computer terminals here are wonferful gatewayss to a wealth of information.  You can retrieve marriage information by the groom's or bride's name, property information by the grantor's or grantee's name, birth information by the child's name, and even death information by the decedent's name.  Unlike the property information where you get to see the entire document image on screen, you only get an entry showing the date and names for marriage, birth, and death information.   You can even send a print job to a printer that sits next to the clerk's station.  It is $1 per page for a copy, and $1 extra per page for certifying.  I was here today to pull a copy of a recently recorded deed, but then I went on to find out that much more can be accomplished here.

The staff is friendly and efficient.  Usually there was no line.  A few months back I had to wait in line to record a deed. I was in a hurry, so I asked the gentleman ahead of me if he would be willing to let me go first.  I obviously didn't use the right words, because he smiled bitterly and said, "No, what makes you think my time is less valuable than yours?" I apologized then left because I had to be somewhere else.

Efficient, fast, and amazingly staffed with sincerely happy and perky government employees!  Happy and efficient bureaucrats?  Oxymoron, nevertheless so true.

My son's US passport is still in limbo progress and we are scheduled for a last minute beach sojourn next week, what to do with only an Italian passport?  I needed his birth ceritificate, fast and quick, like yesterday!

The worse part about my trip to the San Mateo County Recorder's office was to decipher where the 555 Country Ctr building was located, where and how to park, in other words, my being Redwood City challenged.

When I found the building, it took me a total of 10 minutes or less to fill-out the application, pay for the transaction and procure me two original copies of my son's record of live birth.

I'd say this is a boutique government facility.

My husband and I picked up our marriage certificate here before our small ceremony in Half Moon Bay.  No hassle and nice digs too.

Came here with my colleagues to witness another colleague's civil wedding. The County Clerk is authorized to issue marriage licenses and perform civil marriages. We were all hurried into the chapel and the wedding chancellor performed the ceremony in a mere 9 minutes and 50 seconds, the couple exchanged rings and kissed each other, took pictures and we were out of there! Wow, talk about no fuss wedding?! Yup and this is legit with a $13 charge for the wedding certificate and $35 registration fees! :)
