Gilroy, CA
I love this place!!! Hubby and I had breakfast. Chili verde for me and chicken fried steak for him. The chile verde was perfect, slightly spicy with tender pork that broke apart with my fork. The tortillas were fresh and tasty. The ch fried steak was homemade with a crispy crust and the gravy was light yet full flavored. The waitress was very talkative and friendly. The ambience was plain but homey. I felt very comfortable. The owners definitely take pride in serving good food with quality ingredients. Looking forward to going back.

Local spots like these can be great finds...
On the recommendation of Yelp, I stopped here while passing through. The place doesn't look like much, but the owner is really friendly and seems to personally know most of the patrons. The menu here runs the gamut of breakfast and lunch diner fare, with some Mexican dishes thrown in for good measure...
I had the Mexican omelette, which came with hash browns and toast. I wasn't all that impressed with it, to be honest, thus my mediocre score. I found the food to be bland, but the rest of the folks there seemed to be digging into their orders with gusto. Oh well... -

Chile verde is perfect! This will now be a regular stop on the Gilroy wine tasting circuit.

Friendly staff... good food... loved the chile verde. Too bad it's only cash... but it's a little easier now that they've put in an ATM

Being south of Morgan Hill in the tiny burg of San Martin, this little hole-in-the wall cafe has the advantage of being out of the way enough for most Morgan Hill residents to ignore its existence. Lucky for those that have discovered how good their food is, and how short the wait can be!
We've been here twice so far, and had really excellent service both times. The first time, Mr. F. and I were greeted and seated immediately--despite it being a weekend--and our food came out piping hot, quickly and oh-so-good. No burnt bacon here!
The other day my parents and I stopped by for a late breakfast, and the waitress was quick to offer suggestions for my egg-averse mother and kept our coffee cups full as we poured over our menus (as well as throughout the rest of the meal.) The beans you could order for an additional dollar were some of the best I've found in the South Valley, and my breakfast chili verde fell apart at the touch of my fork. My mom kept raving about her chicken-fried steak, and my dad kept stealing her country potatoes and swearing up and down that he's coming here again the next time they're down to visit.
I almost didn't Yelp this place, as I'd love to keep it to myself...but really, to Yelp is to love...and we really love the San Martin Cafe! -

We had breakfast here after a weekend at CordeValle. What can I say? The food was outstanding. The wait staff was attentive and personable. Best of all, there was no wait at 11:00 on a Sunday morning!
Did I mention how toothsome and wholesome the food was? My father, a native West Texan, said it was just like being home again. Now if that ain't a recommendation, I don't know what is!
Y'all get on down there now, y'hear!Listed in: SF Bay Reviews

I was surprise how good the food here was! If you have a hearty appetite and like to choose from a classic American or Mexican breakfast this would be the place for you.
One time I ordered the Chile Verde and it was some of the best I have had.
This is just the type of cafe you would expect to find in a little town like San Martin. -

Found this recommended on Yelp, so I took my friend who lives in Morgan Hill to breakfast late Saturday. He'd never been here and wanted to try it.
Unfortunately the waitress got his order wrong ... twice ... and didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Had to flag them down for coffee over and over. Food and coffee were okay, although the poor service sort of killed it for us.
My friend said that with other better options in town, he won't be going back. I agree. -

The food is great!...it varies upon the cook but still great. Make sure you have cash, because they don't accept cards.
It's a little hole in the wall that is nothing but awesome. Chile Verde is so flavorful but i usually come for the huevos rancheros. They have a great sauce on top. I like it best with their homemade sauce; I put it on everything.
Their beans are delicious!
Sometimes they can be slow at service but it is definitely worth the wait. This place is my favorite breakfast place. -

Had my favorite breakfast- coffee, bacon, hash browns w/ gravy (that by which I judge all breakfast places). Breakfast was good. I'll definately go back. My only issue was that I ordered coffee and it didn't come until the food was served. This is not a big issue except that, in the morning for the safety of all around me, the coffee needs to show up within seconds of my ordering it. Apart from endangering public safety by making me wait for coffee, I was happy with the food and I liked the old school feel of the cafe (cowboy photos, etc).

Tried them after nearly a decade of avoiding them. I went there twice in the last 2 weeks, once for breakfast which was not half bad, then for lunch. Their prices are very high and unreasonable for the amount of food they serve you with. The service is unpleasant and has to be asked for things, such as refills, and we asked if we could substitute pancakes for 2 eggs and the waitress said there would be an extra charge, so of coarse we asked and the girl blurted out "oh about $4.50", I was instantly irritated then looked down and the menu and a side of eggs(2) were $1.99... Struck out for sure! I guess it may be another decade before I give this place a shot again, or maybe never again! All in all very disappointing!

I took my mom for lunch on the way home from the feed store in San Martin. The place doesn't look like much from the street but we stopped nevertheless and Galo (the owner) was gracious and the food was fabulous. We had recently been in Philadelphia and tried their famous Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches in 3 different locations. All of which turned out to be disappointing in our opinion. It's a shame when a place that gets famous for something specific forgets about how they got that way in the first place. The San Martin Diner was by far the best Cheesesteak I have ever had (including Amatto's in Cambell) and 3000 miles closer than Philly ! This place is definitely worth the drive for breakfast or lunch.

The only place we go to for breakfast in or around Morgan Hill. It is a bit pricey (not near the worst) but the food is solid. Experience is at times inconsistent but the food always ranges 3-5.

Delicious breakfast, and the most intensely bubbly server I've ever had. The chile verde melted in the mouth.

Morgan Hill, CA
I have lived in Morgan Hill for over 20 years and have been an occasional customer over the years. In it's "Hey Day" you had wait lines of 10 to 15 people waiting to get in. Over the years as with any great resteraunt things seem to settle down and so did the attendance to this quaint Cafe. Over the past several months this Cafe has undergone a major facelift both inside as well as management changes. Since it's re-launch I have been a steady customer because of the friendly servise and the great food. For breakfast you can not beat the Chile Verde but my favorite is the grilled pork chops and eggs with the country potatoes. They have a homemade green chile salsa that begs to be tried. For lunch their cook makes a steak sandwich that is so tender that at the end of your meal the french bread is still intact. Anyone who has had a steak sandwich and ends up with the bread torn to pieces because of a tough piece of steak will appreciate this menu item. I have met people that I have seen before but because of the friendly ambiance feel compelled to talk to and the reception from these people has been phenominal. Galo ,one of the owners,is always ready to talk about the weather or local politics depending on what might be on the TV in the dining area. Very local,Very quaint,Very fun, Very good service,Excellent food!! Give it a try, you will not be disapointed.

This place is definitely a small dinner. Nothing fancy. But the breakfast is great. I got the chili verde with eggs. OMG! Best chili verde I ever had. Very fresh, not greasy and not salty. I like this place a lot more than OD's for breakfast in the area. My BF got the eggs and chorizo, which was good and not greasy, but nothing to fancy.

The menu here is sort of a basic diner menu with breakfast served all day, which is always a plus...we ordered grilled sandwiches and fries and they were so juicy and tasty that we are committed to another visit in the near future. The service was very good and attentive. Can't wait to try their eggs Benedict.

Just went there and was surprised first that they did dinner and second that they made some decent calamari. It was like a mix menu but totally better than going to a chain restaurant.

Been here twice for late breakfast. First time we were forgotten several times in the back of the restaurant. Food was good though. Second time was fantastic. Let's just say our server this time was better, older and more experienced than the first time. We also sat in the front section. Checked on us a bunch and made sure everything was ok. Food was still great. Downside was no credit cards. Upside was they have coupons.

Morgan Hill, CA
Went in the morning on my wife's birthday. The food was pretty good. The eggs were the best, they didn't have that greasy "restaurant" feel to them. It was a nice, homey place, like you'd expect in a rural town like Morgan Hill. The people were friendly. It was an enjoyable breakfast.

We found this restaurant on Google Maps while we headed down the coast and were very happy. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and had the taco salad, chili verde & a salad, a cheeseburger w/ fries, and the mushroom & swiss sandwich with added tomato. It was all delicious and the service was great. I think with two ice teas and a coke the total was $44 before the tip. I'd do it again and try the breakfast entrees.
