I grew up in this city, and LOVED San Marino Toy & Book.

I would walk in as a younger girl every chance I got, because it was just so fun to look at everything.

Yes, the pricers are higher, probably to reflect the rent.

It's a unique store, and if you go, you'll definitely love it if you have the patience to wander slowly.

Reading through the reviews, I never used to notice the "highschool staff."  Growing up, all I ever saw were kind older ladies, who were super helpful.

I still wander in from time to time, and I love it.

    WOW.

    This place is overrated.

Seriously One staff person whos texting on her phone.

Theres some books, some toys, and some stickers.

I mean any decent teachers store/educational toy store would carry. But the prices are high.

I am tempted to lower my rating just because the all 5 stars so far is just way too much but A-OK is what this store is.

"San Marino Toy & Book Shoppe you rock!"

I can look past your snotty high school staff cause you're stocked high with awesomely cool items for my tyke.

My first visit began as just well, a visit with no intention to purchase anything. Of course that went out the window as soon as we walked in. They had all of my favorite past toys and new school ones that I had been reading about. We took home from our first visit motor skill-tailored toys, a kick ball, a few cars, dump trucks and planes all for my little nugget.

Where else can you get USC, UCLA, and Stanford _BABY_ books?

You know you're in affluent San Marino. You sure aren't gonna find this in Pico Rivera.

I was looking for an educational toy for my nephew.

not sure what, but something smarter than a light up toy that makes noise.

I got him sea monkeys.  Educational, right? well, at least it'll teach him some responsibility about life. Hopefully he'll take what he's learned from Sea Monkeys and become a biologist, and I have this store to thank for having it in stock, unlike the useless, brainless and generally stupidity inducing toy section of your local Walmart.

The toy shoppie (I love pronouncing it like that) staff is very helpful.

This place has everything - even toys my sister and I used to play when we were children. I almost got him these out of nostalgia, but they were a lot more expensive than I'd remembered them to be.

This _IS_ San Marino, after all.

When  J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, a woman richer than the Queen of England, came to California to sign books, she came here.

This is a book store where the first answer from the sales people is,  "Would you like that book in paper or hardback?"  and frequently they have both.  Excellent service, excellent selection, great educational toys.  Free giftwrapping.  An ideal place for a last minute gift.

As we get older, we have nieces, nephews, cousins, etc that we have to buy gifts for birthdays, Christmas, baby showers, etc.  It's been a long while since I've had to buy such gifts or since I've stepped into a toy store.

Recently I remembered that I used to go to San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe for a friend's birthday present or a toy for myself.  I had a six year old cousin and a 2 year old nephwe to shop for, and San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe was THE one stop shop for getting a gift for children.  It was also a fabulous blast to the past.  There were toys galore educational and just plain fun.  They even still had the sticker reel, where I used to spend a lot of time picking new stickers for my sticker collection.  It was fun and the perfect place to get a gift for someone from 1 month to early teens.  Swing by and remember what it was like to be a kid again and find an awesome gift.

Also if you have no idea what you are looking for, the sales associates are friendly and helpful.  They know where everything is in the store.

Lastly, they also continue with their tradition of wrapping gifts and attaching a card with a lucky wishing penny on it.  I love and cherish such traditions.  They are so refreshing and familiar.

Large children's book store in San Marino on the south side of Huntington Dr on the east corner with Ridgeway Rd. Parking is in a decent size lot east of the building (the building kind of looks like it could have been a bank at some point).
This is a really large children's book and toy store, this place probably has the more children's books of any independent children's book seller I know of. The older staff really knows there stuff if you have questions about finding a book and most of the books are grouped by subject, including story subject, like all the different versions of the 3 little pigs will probably all be in the same place instead of having to find them by author. They also have the popular young adult books. The amount of toys (most of which are educational) is pretty extensive as well. When I was last there I noticed they were selling gift certificates now which I though would probably be great to give as a present for a child that you don't know what to get.  The only thing is most of the stuff here is pretty expensive but its kind of to be expected from the San Marino are.
