      NEVER AGAIN.

After years of being a season ticket holder I AM DONE.

The new SAP/Sharks policy forbidding ALL bags is complete BS. You have to bring in your own food or drink loose. Even clear bags & thin plastic shopping bags are forbidden.

I had to dump out my food and carry all of the items and bottles of water loose. All because a thin plastic shopping bag is not permitted inside.

SJ Sharks - you've gone too far this time. You just lost 2 season ticket holders who will not renew next season.

BIKE PAAARTYYYY! I love how diverse SJBP is! From fixies to hybrids to crusiers, recumbants, and tandems you got it all. As what Jason L. Said, "You can definitely find common ground" with everyone.

I love the lights, people, music and bikes. I'm not sure why people complain about the music though. As soon as we hit a residential area the music definitely TONED DOWN. So is it really the music? Or are you jealous you didn't hear about the event? C'mon it's free for everyone to join!

Although I have seen people wreck into each other, they ALL got right back up, gave each other a handshake and went on. It is a respectable event for everyone. I really recommend it. YES, IT IS EVERY 3RD FRIDAY OF THE MONTH WOOO!!

      BIKE PARRTTAYYY!!!

I went to my first bike party this past Friday (SJBP is every 3rd Friday of the month) and it was an amazing experience! You wouldn't expect the amount of people that actually show up to this event! I was surprised by the turnout and even more amazed with everyone's bikes! People seriously take the time to pimp out their bikes and bring music to sound the night. All kinds of people of all ages come!

The bike party takes a couple hours, roughly starts at 8 PM and doesn't end till about midnight or so. It's quite organized for such an informal event. There are people at corners (not all, but the important ones) that direct you where to turn and if you're hungry, there are food trucks at the rest spots. There is also ample time for you to rest up in between the ride, so you're not biking the full ~15+ miles in one go. It's a little dangerous sometimes when you're gaining speed going down a hill and then having to make a sudden break/turn or if you're not careful navigating between all the bikers. I saw two people eat it... and it did not look pleasant at all.... :c If you're concerned about safety, you could always wear a helmet, but most don't. It's at your own risk. Also, make sure you dress appropriately cause it can get chilly at night.

It's a great experience for bikers, but I can see how residents and drivers can be annoyed with this. Sorry for the rowdiness! I'll be sure to try to be courteous to those driving and share the road. c:

AND AND... speaking from experience, I would not recommend biking on a fixie for such a long bike ride... x___x Unless you're trying to pedal for days and build them thunder thighs / calves / legs... I would bring a bike that you can actually coast on.

"Whoo hoo, bike partyyyy!" was heard throughout the entire night!

Went to my first bike party & it happened to be NO PANTS themed! I saw a variety of things last night.. Shorts, skirts, dresses, tutus, undies & even a toga! There were bikes of all different shapes and sizes, some of them were really cool.

I haven't ridden in years but this was definitely fun to do! There were a lot of cops patrolling but what do you expect for a route passing through Santana Row & Campbell? It was pretty tough for a novice rider to maneuver through certain concentrates areas but as the party thinned out, it got easier.

Most of the riders are nice and courteous. Some are not. One guy thought it would be smart to cut between me and the sidewalk that my leg was resting on.. You were just asking me to fall on you, buddy! I got a few bumps and bruises but at least I didn't scrub on my own & cause a pile up. Those looked very unpleasant..

The bike party happens every 3rd Friday of the month, routes are posted on the site the day before. Come check it out! Thanks to Yelp's SB Slumdog & Photog for escorting me, I was a lucky girl! (:

If someone named after the Greek god of thunder invites you to a bike party themed "Ride of the Gods," then it's a sign that the gods (both the old and the new) along with the rest of the universe wants you back on a bike!

I've heard the term "bike party" thrown around a few times and I just assumed that a bunch f people show up to ride together - and it is primarily that but with more flair. There are 2 regroup "breaks" with live DJs, food trucks, bike jousting (yes, this is a thing and an awesome one at that!), and in my case - home made fireworks (a bit sketchy but still cool).

I was a bit nervous going in since I haven't been on a bike in many, many, MANY moons. Well you know what they say about riding a bike again? It's kind of true but I was still super shaky. Anyway, the bike party was super fun and reminded me of the days when I had my own little bike gang posse in the suburbs of Canada. A lot of people complain about it being chilly but I personally loved the feeling of the cool, night wind blowing through my hair and on my bare skin (I was essentially wearing a silk scarf held together by two clips for my "costume"). This is saying a lot from someone who hails from LA and shivers uncontrollably whenever it drops below 73 degrees.

      Tips:

I forgot my helmet at home but I highly recommend it if you're not at least an intermediate biker because the odds you might crash or bump into someone aren't slim.

Try to ride near someone with good speakers and music you like. It was much more fun to pedal along to my fave beats :)

It's more fun to dress up but you don't have to. I was going to go as Godzilla (get it?) but it's hard riding with a tail...

The routes are about 20-ish milles and split into ~7 mile chunks. A lot of people call it quits after the first regroup and will head back to the starting point so don't let the distance be a limiting factor.

Pimp your ride! It's fun to see all the creative decorations and lights. Oh yes, lights are VERY important so that others can see you.

Survived the night in a scarf top + yoga pants!

My feelings about this event are mixed. Mixed coming from the role of a rider...if I was driving a car or a pedestrian, I would be muttering a lot of 4 letter words.

I participated in my first Bike Party this past Friday. The route isn't published until the night before or morning of, and the circuit was a 26 mile circle around San Jose & Santa Clara. We found the Bike Party pedaling down the street and we merged in to join. The group was fairly diverse - there were teenagers, adults, and a few kids sprinkled in (even saw one on a cute mini mountain bike). There were tandem bikes, weird makeshift golf cart looking bike contraptions, and people towing giant speakers. Some folks had costumes, decorated their bikes (lights &
glow in the dark seemed to be popular), or blasted music from radios.

There were a ton of bikers - I would estimate a few hundred had come out. The swarm of bikers was somewhat spread out along the trail - but I think there were 3 main packs - the leaders, middle, and laggers at the end. We were at the tail end most of the time, and took short cuts to catch up to the rest of the crowd. There are a few designated stops for regrouping. I think I only made it to the last stop, and 2 or 3 food trucks were there.

      What I liked:
-Bike Party makes it fun to take your bike out for a ride. Large groups of people, an interesting route, and music. When else can you wear a costume and also decorate your bike with glow sticks without being stared at?
-Route changes each time and I believe there's always a theme.
-Something different to do on a Friday night.
-Good workout - I didn't make the entire circuit though, partially due to a flat tire and we were also moving pretty slow. I'm guessing we did roughly 16 or 17 miles.

      What I didn't like:
-Some riders were quite rude, and I saw a few near accidents between riders.
-As you're traveling in a massive sized group, there's often little regard for rules. Bikers were running red lights (to stay with the group), not stopping at stop signs, or not moving to the far right lane so cars could pass. I recall walking past a smaller bike party one day and none of the riders stopped to yield so we could cross the street.
-Some people are using the Bike Party as an excuse to drink, "smoke", and blast music in public. I honestly don't mind, but then you get punks who are only biking for the sole purpose of doing those things.
-It does disrupt the peace, especially if the Bike Parties run from 8pm to midnight or later. The good thing is it's a moving party, so traffic or noise isn't isolated to one location. Whew for those that live along a bike route.

      If you decide to go:
      -Bring water
-Bring a repair kit, extra tube, and a bike pump. However, if you do get a flat, I'm sure there are people willing to help.
-Wear reflective gear and have adequate lighting for your bike. While the party is pretty visible as a group, if you stray away once the sun sets, you're invisible to cars and pedestrians.

We just attended our first SJ Bike Party this past Friday. Finally got to put my new bike to some good use!

The organizers of this event are pretty amazing and a huge kudos out to the police department for escorting at certain intersections and keeping everyone safe.

The ambiance was awesome, and there were tons of different bikes out. Motorized, unicycles, mountain bikes, cruisers, BMX-ers, etc.

Everyone was fairly friendly and I loved being able to ride in a large group on the road without worrying about cars running me down.

Downside to the gazillion bikes is that from a driver's perspective, they get stuck and caught up in the bikes.

Pitstops were well organized and people were friendly!

      Biiike Partiii' *ting, ting*

Hello! To test the waters, I went on the route trial for the upcoming scheduled Ladies Ride July 24th.
And it was a blast, this was a much smaller group ride "from the stories I heard " but it was fun none the less. Everyone was really laid back and friendly, it was a good ride and the stops were either near little shops for refreshments and or restrooms for relief!

I would totally recommend checking this group of riders out, there were many different types of cyclists from the hardcore to leisure riders, *note, probably not the best for the bmx riders... or I could be wrong not being one myself. So, we rode the whole ride and at the last stop and we were close to our pad... I read that if your close to home go ahead and exit' just let someone in the group know your outie... well, I did and I got called a sissy! Lol... yep seriously, I guess some riders actually don't like it when you leave before the end of the line lol...

Great place to meet new people though, and have some laughs... can't wait for the evening ride!
Oh also side note, keep up on the route trials... get one light behind and you'll be peddling your ass to catch up. = D

Love the San Jose Bike Party! Every 3rd Friday of the month. They have awesome themes. The last one I went to was the Glow in the Dark theme. They even give out free lights for your bike. We bike over 20 miles that night from San Jose to Cupertino, to Campbell, Saratoga, and back to San Jose.
