If you're looking for profound intellectual stimulation, SFSU downtown campus is not the place. If ongoing professional development is the goal,  it's fast and informative. Perforce most of the classes are programmed, interactive, and intense - which for me is the upside of this type endeavour.  Remember what your mom or someone told you: Even slow students have something to offer so be patient; no one is the boss of anyone else in class; do your homework, be polite and wait your turn; and don't be a smart, um, aleck. Yes, Westfield is right downstairs. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Good times abound at the Westfield Center.  Ever since SFSU rented out the entire 5th floor office space this place is bouncing like a Mexican Jumping Bean.  Now kids, the curriculum can be intense at times; regression analysis, stock pricing, betas, isoquant slopes, ERP's and the like.  But hey, just when you think things are never gonna get easy, we all get to do some time value money problems and the smiles reemerge.

Really though.  SFSU MBA was ranked by the Aspen Institute as 27th nationwide, 37th worldwide and 3rd in the Bay Area in terms of Sustainable and Ethical curriculum.  So if there was ever a time when I might have thought of only doling out four stars, which there wasn't, I threw that idea right out the window.  SFSU MBA will make you a Master of Business Administration, and that's a fact.  Assuming you finish of course.  The professors are passionate and intelligent.  The facilities are spanking new and convenient.  And don't forget the student body.  Not only are they awesome but one day they will be your boss.  So look out!

You know the feeling of the first day of school? The nervousness, the butterfly in your stomach, the urge to call your mommy? Okay, maybe not that bad, but the excitement is definitely there.

I decided to go back to school after 6 years. I haven't been in a classroom setting for so long that I was afraid I'd look out of place. When I went to the main campus on Holloway to buy books, I definitely felt like I didn't belong there. So many fresh-faced brats with their trendy clothing. I'm sorry, I'm just old, so I tend to be snarky when I talk about  young people. Can I just say that grad students are really different from undergrad? I didn't hear any "uhh... duuuude... I'm soooo wasted....", instead I hear "I was born in a commune near Israel, worked as a software engineer and now I'm a mom and part-time student."

Awesome. Just awesome.

Needless to say, I am glad that they moved the graduate business school to the downtown center. It's in the most beautiful mall in the bay area, close to a lot of prospective employers, BART station is just downstairs, and there's beard papas downstairs! That should be enough reason to go to this school, right? ;)

The inside of the downtown center is not surprisingly nice. Everything is brand new. Nice, clean and shiny. Classrooms are bright and adequately equipped with the necessary technology. Computer lab is equipped with Dell notebooks instead of desktops so there's plenty of room on the desk to write on. Of course I always pick the back corner spot by the wall so nobody can tell if I'm yelping in class. One thing you should know, is to bring a jacket to class because the classroom turns into a walk-in freezer. But you already know that if you've lived in the bay area, right?

All in all, I'm glad I picked a good time to start my advanced education at SFSU. It's nice not having to go to the main campus. I love the downtown center and look forward to a memorable learning experience.
