It's quiet, clean, and smells good. Yes, that actually matters when you are trying to read or study, trust me.  Have you been to SF Main?  Enough said.  Although the main library has some amazing resources, the overall building has some of the most yucky bathroom stalls.  Ewww.

The selection at this branch definitely reflects of the type of folks in the neighborhood.  If you have kids, it's great.  Nice place but it's not for those who want to look at more scholarly texts.  It definitely is a neighborhood library.  The GP branch definitely makes me want to go to all of the branches and look at some ethnography of libraries.  You know, to prove the point that library selection is contingent upon the types of individuals that frequent the library.  I mean, I've never seen such a big 'large format' section in a library.  Not a bad thing, just interesting.  Also, as I already mentioned, the kids selection is immense at the GP branch.  Overall, when I popped in on a weekday morning, I found it to be pleasant but keep in mind, you only have 30 minutes on the computer and you need to enter your library card and pin to use them, which is smart.  You want to prevent computer hogging!  Besides, most people have laptops and just bring them in to study or write.  I'll definitely return if I need a place that will force me to work on my writing!

Not the best library in the world.  The location is pretty good, but the library itself is rather small.  The biggest knock, though, is their terrible hours.  I think they are open a combined 3 hours during the entire week.

Standard library.  What else can you say?

Super convenient for me, I can hop off at GP Bart, hit the library for free movies and books, then stop by Bello for the best coffee and back on Bart to go one more stop.  It's small, but has a great movie and fiction section.   I'm amazed more people don't utilize the libraries.  I 'rented' three movies for a week... Free!   What's not to love?

Pros:
~Extremely convenient location (tip: take your newly borrowed book over to Cafe Bello next door)
~Nice design/art
~Room to grow
~Easy to order books from other libraries online and pick them up here (in and out within a minute)

Cons:
~Tiny collection
~Some of the staff are not particularly knowledgeable or interested in helping patrons

I hope all of us locals do a good job of donating to the library and helping this sweet, little branch grow.  Unfortunately, when I asked how to donate money to the branch, the staff said they didn't know.  :-(

Lo!  Behold!  What a wonderful place this thing you call a "library" is!  It appears to be some sort of repository of thousands of books on varied subjects, where you can pick out a few novels and take them home for free!  And what is that scent I detect?  It appears to be - why it's - yes, it's the fresh, clean aroma of completely urine-free book stacks!

Up until a couple months ago, I would just buy whatever books I needed for my research (I am a graduate student), or that I wanted (I am a huge book worm).  Then, like most people I know, my 401(K) became valueless, and I had to begin saving every cent I had (all over again).  Enter the Glen Park branch of the library.  I LOVE IT.  I go on-line, order what books I want, and, usually within a couple of days, I can roll over to the the library and pick them up.  The library itself is totally clean and new.  The staff is overall really friendly, and always laugh at my strange assortment of books.  I would totally suggest that EVERYONE get a library card, and start using it!

If you ever wanted to know what it's like to be me... then do this:

Zone out at your desk or in your bed or on your sofa or wherever the hell you are.  Put on a funky wife beater with some silly logo like "Magnum P.I." or some silly wording like  "My other boobs are being filled as we speak" or some shit and place your hair (if you're not bald that is) in two pigtails on your head.

Fry up one fried chicken thigh (only one now because you, as me, are on the Weight Watchers diet.  Also, make sure you use whole wheat panko and one egg white.  No yolk allowed).  Pop open a bottle of crisp chardonnay, measure one cup and pour into a wine glass (Only one cup now because you, as me, again, are on the Weight Watchers plan and two cups is two points too many).

Pass gas loudly as you settle into your sofa.  You can because you are, I mean I am, alone and in the comfort of your, I mean my, home and not a damned person can see you, I mean me, smell it or look at you, I mean look at me, like you....I....  just passed gas.  You did... as me of course.  So everyone can kiss your, I mean, my, big ass.

Are ya keeping up here?

Oh yes, walk to a mirror, turn around, and understand what it's like to have a size 48" ass.  Rub it, love it, honor it... make peace with it.  Do one hundred squats for me too would ya?  I'd like to have gotten in a little exercise when this entire experiment is over and I get my body back.

Now, return to your... my... sofa, dig into that chicken and chardonnay and begin to enjoy any of the following:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble" (CD)
or
La Dolce Vita (DVD)
or
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky (Fiction)
or
Cabaret (DVD)
or
Dusty Springfield - "Dusty in Memphis" (CD)
or
Interpol - "Our Love To Admire"(CD)
or
The Break-Up (DVD)
or
Daryl Hall & John Oates - "The Collection"  (2-Disc CD - HELLS YA!!!!!)
or
Rufus Wainwright - "Release The Stars" (CD)
or
Old Rosa by Reinaldo Arenas (Fiction)
or
Caetano Veloso - "Livro" (CD)
or
Wynton Marsalis - "From The Plantation To The Penitentiary" (CD)

....all brought to you compliments of the spankin' new Glen Park Library which is open five days a week. The new Glen Park facility features talking directional signs, accessible restrooms, street level after hours book drop off, lounged seating areas, community room with built-in media equipment, 16 public computers for word processing use, WiFi and express checkout machines.

Then, in your last moments as me, do the froog, in the full length mirror, to Hall and Oates' "Did It In A Minute" (because you are, I mean I am, the biggest dork and would more than certainly partake in that cd first) and slap in yourself in the big ass if you even think of frying up one more piece of chicken.  Slap it good and hard because you, I mean I, like it like that.  That, however, shall be discussed in another review.

Now, you know what it is like to be me, if only briefly.

Oh, one more task as me: Look above at that list and the fact that you fart in your apartment at night and fully realize why you are, I mean I am, thirty-two-years-old and remain unmarried.

Now, go eat an entire carton of peach sorbet out of unmarried and unloved sadness while you, I mean I, cry uncontrallably while listening to Dusty Springfield's "I Can't Make It Alone" sixty-two times in a row.

The new location of this SFPL branch is really great.  Bright and spacious, it holds the requisite books, computers, magazines, etc that are standard in most libraries.  For kind of a small branch, it has a great variety of materials.  I'm partial to the graphic novel section along the wall, I discover great new books every time I come here.

The hours aren't as good as the other branches, especially since it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but it also tends not to be as crowded as other branches during the week.  While I'm closer to other branches, I prefer this branch overall.

I love the new GP library. This part of town keeps getting better and better and the Library hasn't let us down! ;) This place is always full of bright, smiling children. I'm amazed at how quiet it is. The hold shelves are easily accessible, pretty straight-forward, and the self-check stations are a breeze. This branch makes it easy to find what you're looking for--and I like that. The staff are friendly, mostly the same staff as before. This branch has a great selection of language books compared to other branches I've visited. It's easily accessible to BART and is near the Canyon Market, and Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Citibank ATMS. Yay for GP!

Very nice location that still looks like brand new! Best of all it's right by the Glen Park Bart Station for a low impact read:)

Fairly new library with great facilities.  The location is ideal; just across the street from the Glen Park BART station.  Decent operating hours and a book drop out front.

For a small, neighborhood library this is ideal.  Decent selection of books new and old with loads of DVDs and CDs.

I'm also very excited to see droves of kids anytime i enter.  Makes me proud to be a Glen Park resident.

I would have to say public libraries are one of my favorite things in life. Who can complain about borrowing as many books for free as you want?? I came here on a saturday evening, 30 minutes to closing time and had no trouble getting a library card. This library is small, but has all the essentials.  I got the travel books I was looking for and I'll be back for more!

I haven't used it yet, but did go for a visit after the grand opening.  A whole lot more space, photos of old Glen Park, lots of light and more.  It's been a long time coming!  Open 5 days a week...closed Sun & Mon
