I bought my fiancé's ring here and I had a great experience. The prices here are great and the service was exceptional. They helped me pick out a beautiful ring that my fiancé absolutely adores and everyone compliments her on it. I recommend this place to anyone looking to buy nice jewelry especially engagement rings.

I'm updating my review to reflect what happened after I wrote my previous review about the awful customer service I experienced while in the store.
Jessica contacted me about my review, and stated that she read it to the entire store to discuss what I had written. She wrote me an incredibly long and detailed message to ask specifics about my visit to their store and what I felt could have made things better. I answered her, and she said she read my reply of specific complaints and suggestions to the store in order to address the issues I had faced with them.
She apologized multiple times and really made an effort to make things right with me. While they can't take back the bad experience I had, she seems to be doing everything in her power to make sure that type of experience never happens to anyone else. I truly appreciate her speaking to the staff about what happened.
I appreciate the extra effort that was made to fix things. The level of customer service since my Yelp review has been truly outstanding-- I only wish it had been the same the day I visited the Diamond Exchange.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Buying an engagement ring here was a seamless experience for me.
Appointment-only shopping means that you dedicated service. Sandra listened to everything I was looking for and had some diamonds already picked out when I arrived. All my questions were answered knowledgeably and there was no pushiness at all. Their prices are very competitive.
Only complaints - the hours are somewhat restrictive and their selection of bands and other jewelry isn't huge. Nothing major.
Plus it's next to REI. So I was able to get a topo map on the same trip. -

My experience with Jesse and his team was top notch. Expect great, personalized service. They are very knowledgeable and above all helpful. I looked all over the city and online. I did my research and due diligence and came to one conclusion: San Francisco Diamond Exchange is definitely the place to go! Thanks Jesse! My wife loves her ring!

So I decided to make a big decision in my life and get engaged. I shopped around some places for rings and it only confused me more with all the stuff I didn't even know existed. Then I heard about this place on here and decided to give it a shot. This place is awesome!
First i walked in and got a very warm welcome. I was helped by Jessica and she really knows her stuff. She asked what my budget was and she got exactly what I wanted within my budget. The whole process was very easy going and to the point. THEY EVEN HAVE A SMALL TOP SHELF BAR!!!!!! If you are looking into getting a ring make sure you stop by this place and check it out. Even after the sale everyone was still extremely helpful with all my other questions I had about insurance and sizing. -

I bought an engagement ring for my girlfriend here about a year ago after finding this place on Yelp. It was such a great decision! All of the staff people were so friendly, helpful, and understanding. They took a lot of time to help me make an informed decision and understood exactly what I was looking for.
I had a very specific budget of what I could spend. As I was checking out jewelers I immediately told them exactly what I could spend and told them I couldn't do a penny more than that. You'd think that was specific enough, but other jewelers kept bringing out options that were outside of that budget (I'm looking at you Ben Bridge and Kay Jewelers). San Francisco Diamond Exchange didn't do this. They embraced my budget and helped me make the most of it.
My fiancee (she said yes!) liked the ring so much and said it's EXACTLY what she wanted. I had such a good experience that I went back there when it was time to buy my wedding band and had a similar, great experience. San Francisco Diamond Exchange will absolutely be my first stop for all of my future jewelry needs! -

Professionalism + 1 star
---------
Good selection and presentation. All of my interactions were professional, all of my needs addressed, I *never* felt rushed or ignored. The transaction went smoothly, with all appropriate certification and paperwork provided and explained. I brought a trusted friend - who is also a gemologist - to help advise me on the purchase. Jessica treated her with respect and had no problems with another party stepping into the sales process.
Personal service +1 star
---------
I had two one-hour appointments with Jessica. She maintained her focus on me the entire time, answered all of my questions, and served up countless stones and settings, helping me arrive at the perfect ring. She was available by phone after the sales process to answer additional questions I had regarding insuring the ring. Making an appointment is highly recommended.
Non-pushy approach +1 star
---------
The sales approach was very consultative, and at no point did I feel like I was getting a hard sell. I purchased when I was ready.
Quick turnaround +1 star
---------
Time was of the essence, and the setting and sizing were done quickly. Jessica went out to the adjacent jewelers to find the setting I wanted because they did not have it in stock.
Ambiance +1 star
--------
Would you rather purchase a diamond ring in a shady-looking basement in downtown from creepy sales guys, or in a pleasant, well-lighted office with genuinely nice saleswomen and a cute dog to boot? Enough said. -

Being somewhat pessimistic by nature, I discounted many of the 5-star reviews that I read about S.F. Diamond Exchange. In fact, prior to my initial visit I had already visited diamond retailers and wholesalers in NY and didn't think that I would find a comparable store in SF. I was wrong.
My saleswoman was Jessica and she was more than a pleasure to work with. I knew the custom setting I wanted and she assured me that she could have it made. Armed with that knowledge I was ready to look for the center stone. Jessica spent over an hour with me. We discussed the qualities that I found most important and that my girlfriend (now fiance) had "instructed" me to look for. Jessica was willing to stay within my budget (never did I feel as if I was pushed or led into looking at any stones other than what I wanted to look at). When I begun to narrow in on the stone that I thought was the perfect one, she found other stones to help me compare and contrast it with. At no time, did I get a sense that I was trying to be pushed into making a decision (for the sake of making a sale).
Above all, I found Jessica's willingness to be open and transparent about the pricing of the stones to be refreshing. She showed me what the Rapaport Pricing Report was for the stone I was looking at and took time to explain the markup and why they felt the stone deserved a markup. There was no haggling. I compared their prices to what I had seen on Blue Nile and was happy to see that they were in-line. I needed the ring somewhat soon and they were able to accommodate me even with a custom setting.
I could go on about my experience but, by now, I think I have conveyed that I would recommend the S.F. Diamond Exchange as your first stop or your last stop on your hunt for the perfect diamond engagement ring! -

So this is my account of what happened:
Spoke with Rep #1 over the phone to get a quote for a specific set of diamond stud earrings. She was super friendly and accommodating and gave me a quote. Scheduled an appointment for 10/10 to see the set.
I had the day off work yesterday, so I called the day before to move the appointment up. Spoke with Rep #1, who said they do not have the set I am looking for, but they have a similar one that is slightly smaller and not GIA certified. I told her I'd really like a set with the specifications I gave her but that I'd like to come in to see the stones. Rep #1 said she wouldn't be working that day but that I could see them with Rep #2.
Went in for my appointment. Rep #2 was friendly enough, but there seemed to have been some miscommunication with Rep #1. She asked to start from the beginning. I gave her my specifications and admitted I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I'd really like that particular set. She said because they don't have them in stock, she would have to special-order them, but that if she did, I would have to buy them. I told her I'd like to see the set first before I buy because I've seen SI(2) stones with eye-visible inclusions (cracks and carbon) that I wouldn't want to purchase--and these stones would be 1/2 carat each, so some SI(2) inclusions can definitely be visible to the eye. Then after some discussion, Rep #2 said something to the effect of, "I can tell you're going to be so picky that you may not want the set I order, and it's really not worth it for me. Believe it or not my time is limited, and I'd really rather not waste my time on the process." The older gentleman (maybe the owner?), who had walked out of his office in the mean time, chuckled after hearing her say this to me.
Really? A $3,500 base-price sale is not worth your time? I know they net less than that, but still.
At one point in the conversation, she had said something to the effect of, "If you're going to be spending that much on something, you'd want to be happy with it," which seemed to contradict her other comment.
She also talked about 90% of the total time I was there, which made me feel she couldn't have been as concerned about what I wanted.
Luckily, I had also planned to visit Chabo's Jewelry just a couple buildings down, in the maze that is the underground jewelry center there. Rafi, the owner, had the stones I wanted (in a slightly larger size, but with all my other specifications). He was very kind and very genuine. I'd highly recommend him. Five stars. -

Very helpful service...awesome deals and beautiful diamonds...what more can you ask for? When my boyfriend (now fiancé) went to look at rings/settings we gave them our budget and they were not pushy or rude. They presented what was in reason for us and added no guilt trips to get something more expensive. It was truly an amazing experience. I knew I had the right location for my wedding ring. This was the only place we looked and this will be the only place I ever buy a ring.
Also - ladies...if you don't like the size of your diamond 3-5 years after you bought it, you can trade it in for full face value and upgrade to a bigger diamond and just pay the difference. Buy reasonable now and upgrade each anniversary! :o) (this is only if you purchase the diamond from them btw).
Enjoy -

Review #100. Century Club. Should be a big one, right? It's only appropriate review #100 is the SF Diamond Exchange. THE place where I bought my fiancee's engagement ring.
Before I went to this fine establishment, I did my diamond homework. Studied the 4 C's, went on Blue Nile daily, and memorized prices of diamonds based on the 4 C's via Blue Nile's pricing. I really studied diamonds. I wanted to get my fiancee THE ring. THE ring that symbolizes our future together. The promise I'm making to her...to our life together (cue violin music, doves flying, unicorns galloping).
So, after visiting other vendors and hearing some ridiculous things like, "It's really sparkly," or "She loves it...you can't leave here without buying it" (true quotes), we scheduled an appointment with the San Francisco Diamond Exchange. We met Jessica at this family owned business. Jessica was professional, warm, and knowledgeable. She educated us about the new GIA rating scale for cuts, which other vendors were not aware of, and offered us a variety of diamonds and settings based on my fiancee's descriptions. Immediately, we found THE ring.
The customer service was exceptional. No pressure and utmost professionalism. We couldn't have been happier with the quality and ease in our search for THE ring. Thank you Jessica and San Francisco Diamond Exchange. -

Diamonds are a girls best friends, so they say. If you are wanting to treat yourself to a little bling bling, I suggest you visit the SF Diamond Exchange. You'll need to make a appointment to in sure you'll get the service. The quality is what impresses me about this place. Not all wholesaler has good qualities. Another tip, is that a good cut as well as color and clarity is so important. Computerized technology makes the ideal cut more accurate and perhaps even more accessible at better price. I bought a small pendant. The overall points is less than .20 pts, yet, it has so much brilliant. I was informed that these tiny diamonds were cut using computerized technology. I felt the service was excellent considering I was not a big spender in the world of diamonds. I am sure I will be back to visit them again.
Oh yes, there is a parking lot, small but available. Big plus! -

I was looking for an engagement ring, had a pretty good idea of what I wanted/could afford (~$500). I made an appointment over email to come see what kind of deals could be had.
The person responded to my email confirming my appointment and asked me to give me an idea of what i was looking for and my budget so she could get some things ready for me in advance, one of their big talking points is "we aren't going to show you something that you can't afford or aren't interested in" which is great, unfortunately no one read my email response to their question because when I got there I had to tell her everything again.
The lady worked with me for around 5 minutes showing me various diamonds, when some shady looking rich guy and his wife walk in, from that point on I was invisible and was pawned off twice to two different people, one of whom was a teenage girl who was apparently the daughter of the main sales lady, she was about as interested in serving me as the safe in the corner, i just felt weird and boogied out of there ASAP.
Headed into the next Jewelry store down, ValuExchange, where they treated me like an absolute King and didn't make me feel like a stupid customer who was wasting their valuable time. I ultimately bought my ring from ValuExchange and got an amazing deal, spectacular service and a really stunning diamond.
Couple good things about SFDE: they're prices are very good, but don't expect your hand to be held unless you have boku bucks to spend or there is no one else around. Also I went during the holiday season and got reserved parking while the rest of the lot was full, that was pretty sweet.
Also they will have a ring within your budget, I would have basically been forced to buy a ring/diamond from them, had I not went next door.
The lady did email me back to apologize for the bad service and gave me a couple of excuses but I really wasn't feeling it.
I thought about giving them 1 star, but with the holiday season I realize they were busy, but I'm hoping maybe this will give them incentive to service all of their customers regardless of budget as well as shady rich guys. -

I thought buying an engagement ring was going to be a horrible fiasco that would end with me spending three months salary at a Zales in the mall.
Jessica and the extremely laid-back experts at the SF DIamond Exchange (a family business, like all classy jewelers) will treat you like a prince even if you are spending half a weeks salary. They listen to your ridiculous questions and make appropriate suggestions, while never trying to upsell you or make you feel like less of a man for buying your future wife THAT! We wouldn't even feed that ring to our dog!!!
Also, they are in a building that shares a floor with lots of other jewelers and goldsmiths, so if you need to buy a piece of jade or have a ring fixed or spiffied up for a special anniversary, this is the place to bring it. -

Anyone who is scared of jewelry shops should give the SF Diamond Exchange a try. I felt so safe and comfortable when working with the accommodating staff here. No one was pressuring me to buy, they didn't sneer at me when I just looked tried rings on and then left without buying anything.
They have a wide range of prices to accommodate any budget. The possibilities are endless here. I recommend the SF Diamond exchange to all of my friends. -

If you are in the market for an engagement or wedding ring, this is the ONLY place to shop. In fact, I have recommended SF Diamond Exchange to my out of town friends because your plane ticket will more than offset the better deal you will get.
Sandra is an awesome salesperson. My wife and I looked at rings and Sandra practically read our minds and had the diamond in the setting the next time we came back (before we even told her that we wanted it). Nice job! Their pricing is fair and mathematical.... they look at the size and the 3 C's, match it up on a matrix, and that is the price you pay.
Forget about Tiffany's or any other overpriced place like it....unless you really like parting with your money. -

Guys... This is the place that you should first consider when buying jewelry for your significant other. If you are anything like me, you are no expert when it comes to the intricacies of diamond grading, let alone jewelry design. This can make it easy for unscrupulous brokers to take advantage of our inexperience. Within the first few minutes of your conversation with their staff (in my case Jessica James), you will no doubt sense the integrity that only a family run business which has been around for the better part of a half century can offer. Business' like this thrive on the positive "word of mouth" that they enjoy.
In my experience, buying a ring can be really easy, or really difficult. Jessica makes this process so easy. She will scour the market (in addition to their own extensive inventory) for what you are looking for and will transparently list the market prices of the stones that she finds. It's so uncommon to do business with someone whom immediately "puts their cards on the table". Perhaps even more impressive is their wholesale prices. I would have been so upset if I had found out that I over paid as much as I initially budgeted for. Irrespective of your budget, this is a great place to shop. I highly suggest doing business with these people. -

Another 5 star review for the Diamond Exchange. Basically, I'm just going to say "ditto". I agree with all of the other reviews and it was great dealing with Jessica.
I bought my now-wife's engagement ring there. No sales pressure, and they are happy to educate your on diamonds and pricing (by the way, diamonds *are* a commodity, prices are set based on a set of mostly objective factors), and in the end give you a fair (to great) price on what's right for you. -

My boyfriend (at the time) and I met with Jessica after reading the reviews on Yelp. We traveled over four hours to meet with her, and it was 100% worth it. Jessica was so professional, thorough and efficient! She took over an hour to explain to us what we should be looking for in a diamond, letting us look at various rings and diamonds and explaining the various colors, clarities, cuts, etc. I also met with Laena at a second appointment, and the level of professionalism continued!
My fiance' and I were officially engaged 5 months after our appointment with Jessica and I was so impressed that I never contacted another jewelry store or looked at another ring. They made everything feel so perfect that I walked out knowing this was "the one."
I would highly recommend Jessica and her team at the San Francisco Diamond Exchange!!! -

San Francisco, CA
My partner and I looked at several jewelry stores and read dozens of web sites including gemologists' blogs before finally getting close to buying a diamond. We priced out individual stones and set ones online.
I stopped in to Diamond Exchange at 4:50 on a Monday (they close at 5:00) but they were still very nice. Then dropped in on a Monday at 4:00, without an appointment, but I knew exactly what size, color, clarity, etc. I wanted and exactly what our budget was.
Jessica immediately picked the perfect ring, then went ahead and showed me many diamonds, many settings, compared prices on an increase in color or clarity, etc. She was really patient while I compared my favorite stone against more expensive ones in "general" light (shielded from the counter lights). Granted, things went really fast because I had already pinpointed my stone and price range.
She didn't try to up-sell me and they re-sized and cleaned my ring for me while I waited. I left with the absolutely most perfect ring, and I couldn't be happier. -

Let me begin by saying I was not looking forward to the process of buying a ring. I didn't know anything about diamonds, and the recommendations from people I knew didn't excite me.
For me, it is always about the experience.
When I first called to inquire, Jessica James, answered the phone. She was polite and pleasant, and made an initial appointment to discuss. I went expecting to be sold, but she saw that I didn't know much and proceeded to instruct me on what to look for and how to look, and the finer points of buying a ring.
The fact she took so much time to educate me was the first thing I liked about her. Another was that she never pressured me or tried to sell or up-sell me. She is the easiest person to work with. The diamond I picked out excited me and I believe was a great value. We put it in a temporary setting and will go back to look at permanent settings. At no time did Jes try to persuade me to do anything; her suggestions were always on the money. Even the little details she would tell me made a big difference in my thought process, and you will be hard pressed to find another like her.
My fiance LOVES the ring, and cannot wait to meet Jessica.
Thank you, Jessica!!!! -

Despite my love of all things sparkly, hunting for a diamond ring scared the hell out of me. It seemed like no matter where I went I was either looking at something insanely out of my league or way below my standards. There were multi million dollar Tiffany beauties & crackerjack level mall baubles but very little for someone like me, a woman with a small credit line and huge dreams.
After reading the yelp reviews I decided to send Jessica a note and see what she had to say. Within 24 hours we were sitting in their offices looking at a slew of shiny new diamonds in our price range that still had that wow factor I was looking for. She never made us feel cheap for looking at a lower price range and offered tons of suggestions on how to create the perfect ring even if it meant picking a pendant that we liked and having it reset in a ring setting.
When a ring outside of my budget caught my eye she gave me the lowest price possible then showed me several other options that were similar but could be made for half the price. We ended up deciding on the more expensive ring (which by the way was easily half the price that we'd pay for a similar ring elsewhere). She was also able to have it resized within an hour, even at New Years!
We could tell that Jessica knows her diamonds and loves sharing that passion with people. It felt like a service rather than a sales pitch. This is definitely where I'll be going if I should need anything in the future. -

After endless searching at different mall diamond stores, "exchange centers", boutique jewelers, wholesale stores and online, i finally found a place that could get me the engagement ring and diamond that she couldn't say no to. The prices were by far way better than any of those other places I mentioned. The selection of diamonds the have there are ridiculous. If your looking for the rock, they have it! I cant mention the price since my fiance is a yelper too, but it's by far the best price you will get.
Service is top notch and it is very personal. You are not pressured in any way, the simply prepare options for you based on your budget and criteria, then go over it and explain what the differences are and what your likes/dislikes are. Other places I went to I felt like I was being sold a used car or an extended warranty, not here. This is by far the best service I have received anywhere! The person I dealt with was Jessica, and briefly her father as well. Both are great! I purchased my ring from them and also had it sized while I ran some errands. All in all, after months of searching, I found it, and had it ready that same day.
If your looking for an engagement ring, this is the place. Service, Selection, Pricing.....all as good as it gets!
I recommend this place to anyone that needs diamonds or an engagement ring. BTW, she said YES! -

Excellent jewlery store! After visiting at least six other stores in SF a friend finally turned me on to the SF Diamond Exchange. Jessica helped me select the perfect ring even after I gave her a very vague description of what my soon to be wife had hinted at. The serice was excellent.
I now have seven friends who have purchased gifts or engagement rings from the SF Diamond Exchange and everyone agrees it was a great experience with outstanding prices. -

All i can i say is that Jessica is the best! along with all the polite workers at SFDE! i had a very very pleasant experience from the first step i walked in. I was greeted quickly and wasnt ignored like most jewelry shops that think your there to just window shop and not buy anything. Im a very young buyer so i can understand how some jewlers can think im just there to browse. But around Dec 17 2008 jessica helped me choose the best diamond i can get for my now fiance! I came there not knowing a thing about diamonds and little knowledge about the 4 C's. Jessica helped cleared everything up and showed me many comparisons to the range i was looking for. To wrap things up SAN FRANCISCO DIAMOND EXCHANGE IS THE BEST!! and ill probably be going back in the future for all my jewelery purchases.

I have had the BEST experiences at Jesse James Enterprise - SF Diamond Exchange. My husband originally received a great recommendation that the prices and the people were the best for diamond engagement rings. He was so pleased; that we recommended my father to buy my mother diamond earrings there and my in-laws will be buying new earrings there too.
I recently redesigned my engagement ring setting and was surprised from my husband with an upgrade. It was such a pleasure working with Sandra for the 3rd time and the experience was so memorable. Sandra has a great eye and is an expert willing to make recommendations and suggestions. They are extremely professional while making you feel apart of the 'family'. I could not recommend the people and the jewelry enough. It is such a wonderful place and they will make your purchase, no matter how big or small, the most special time. -

With such rave reviews, I was expecting a home run at this place. After entering, I waited 5 minutes before any of the sales people even said, hello or we will be right with you.
About 15 minutes later, I sat down with one of the women and it just seemed like she had somewhere better to be, constantly looking around and lot listening to what I wanted.
I gave her the exact ring and specifications I was looking for, or looking to build, and she kept trying to give me a different type of diamond, different color, etc.
After 15 minutes of feeling like I was wasting my time, I left and left her my information to get back to me with suggestions for the center stone (they did not have what I wanted in stock).
I was not surprised that I never heard back from her and quite glad I did not. I found a much more hospitable, reasonably priced store that I would recommend to everyone right around the corner.
Shop around...it makes a difference!
**I would strongly suggest making an appointment and I can't say this is a typical experience, just the experience I had. Thanks** -

My fiance and I searched everywhere for a setting and diamond that we both loved. We went to the SF Diamond Exchange and had a great interaction with Sandra. She was very professional and, based on questions she asked over the phone, she had diamonds and settings ready for us to view.
She was very upfront about costs and showed us things that were within our budget. We never felt any pressure and enjoyed the whole experience. I would highly recommend paying a visit to Sandra at the SFDE if you want a very low pressure shopping experience! -

I had such a great experience choosing my ring here! I went into an appt with Sandra with a specific cut of diamond in mind and there was no way anyone was going to change it. Unfortunately they were having a show the next week and only had a low grade diamond available in the cut I wanted. Being the excellent salesperson she is, Sandra steered toward an even better cut and more ring than I could have ever expected to get. I am in love with it and am so grateful that I went to the SF Diamond Exchange!
