i come here to study....... girls.  no seriously i have an anatomy class....ok...i dont. i lied.  i get nothing done here...and yes parking sucks. LRC is cool i never sign in...cus i DL pron in the LRC..j/k.....they block it...thats literally cockblocking...bastards. Teachers here are good, but it doesnt matter cus i still cheat. j/k....i dont. i swear.  (whistles)

ok on a serious note...been going here for 2 semesters or is that 3 now..haha..idk.. the professors are pretty good some of the ones ive had also teach at UCSD so to have a UCSD professor teach you for a fraction of the class cost at mesa is cool.  Night classes are cool, but crashing a course at night can even be hard but if they let u in..ppl will end up dropping so ur good.   Parking does suck major gonad juice even at night, but i park in the far lot therefore im always late to class....LRC is very useful and they have WIFI... cafeteria..well its a fukin school cafeteria....so..  as compared to miramar..miramar looks like a highschool in southeast diego and Mesa looks like a highschool in la jolla or scripps.... all in all good school.

Construction, how I loathe you.

Mondays&Wednesdays go as followed:
Wake up 6am
Get ready, eat/grab something to eat, leave by 630--640 at the latest.
(I live south of Mesa so we all know how traffic can get going North on the 805 in the morning--the later I leave the worse the traffic gets)
Arrive at Mesa around 7-715
Parking=successful
(The layout of the parking lot HOWEVER, is another story. Either people don't know how to park or are just plain stupid and don't pull forward all the way so the butt of their car is in the way of people trying to get in. The countless times I've driven through two cars, praying, hoping I don't hit them.)
Class
Break(1 hr 45 min)
(I'll go to my car, get stalked by someone trying to find parking, go to the passenger side so people know I'm not leaving and nap. If I'm not in the parking lot, I'll be in the LRC*)
Class
Class
Leave at 345
(Getting to the 805-South sucks because the lights are one for the freeway and 1 lane is carpool only and the other is for everyone else so it gets backed up. Surprisingly driving home isn't as congested as getting to school)

*The LRC is awesome. Excellent place to study or kill some time before your next class. As I walk up the stairs I see 10+ people waiting for the elevator, lazy much?
The bathrooms at the LRC are the only ones I used, only because I don't know where the other womens bathrooms are. :(
Library, Cafe, Study area, & bathrooms all in one :]
I am also attending Southwestern in Chula Vista. And I have to wonder why I didn't start going to Mesa to begin with.

1. I know no one there, maybe 2-3 familiar faces.
2. They offer way more classes of a certain class(i.e. Chem 200 there are 8? lecture and lab classes, as oppose to SWC's 3)

So I'm definitely contemplating if i want to transfer all my credits from SWC to MESA or vice versa.

The place feels like a glorified high school considering the layout and how old the buildings are.

The parking sucks a fat dick.

If you can look past the first con, and find a way to work with the second con, Mesa is a great place to study and get your pre-reqs done.

They offer a variety of classes with a huge array of times tailored to fit everyone from the working adult, busy parent, part time student full time partier.  They even have classes for the SERIOUS student who plans to be a rocket scientist someday, but just couldn't afford the crazy price tag that comes with an ivy league education.

I studied at Mesa off and on for five years, and I don't have any complaints.  Most of the faculty I dealt with were kind, knowledgeable, and really wanted to TEACH and HELP students LEARN!  Those last three items in caps can be somewhat difficult to find at institutions of higher learning, especially those big fancy places that employers immediately orgasm to when they hear about them.  I wouldn't say all of my classes were academically challenging, but many were.  If you want some names here you are...

Abbot for history--teaches seminar style NOT lecture style.  You will enjoy his classes if you like to read, write, and THINK.  Do not take his class if you think you can get away with regurgitating information, because you can't.  All tests are essay, and he is looking for big picture thinking.  Suffice to say, he was an excellent teacher.

Toto and Fremland for Chemistry--both fun, entertaining, laid back, and believe it or not, THEIR curriculum was a lot harder than San Jose State's!

Laris and Ortega for any Art class--I had Ortega for 3D art, and loved her class.  Laris for life drawing and design, loved her too.  both great with feedback.  Ortega probably better for challenging projects.

Although the community college at Midway needs serious renovation they are currently doing that now so hopefully it wont feel like a prison any longer, the teachers in the continuing ed courses are very nice.

Amount of parking tickets I'd received @ Mesa because parking sucks, and I couldn't get away from class to feed the meter: 4

How many times I missed one of my classes or had been over a half hour late because I couldn't find a parking spot: AT LEAST 10.

Number of times I frequented the cafeteria in the 4 years I went here: ZERO.

Average wait time in my car before my first class started, because I had to get to school early TO get a parking spot: 2.5 HOURS.

On a scale of 1-10, how easy it is to crash a class without hassle: 5 (Mesa is too crowded)

Number of times Mesa was the setting in a college porn: ONE. (My friends and I recognized the library, and then she pulled out her Mesa ID to prove to the camera that she was a Mesa student. It was funny, and yet, bizzare.)

Good times, Mesa...Good times.

For the adult who needs something to do after work... take a 20$/unit class.  I've only taken night classes (design, woodworking, drawing, swimming and tennis).  I took a Saturday golf class - and for 20$/unit you get great instruction.

Don't worry about crowded classes, they usually thin out after the first few weeks.  The instructors and coaches really like what they do, at least the ones I've come across which makes for a better learning experience.

The range of students include recent high school grads to the baby boomers fostering a new hobby.  I'll still be going to Mesa/Miramar/City in 30 years and may finally get to take that interpretive dance class I haven't had the balls to take yet.

The dance classes at Mesa College are top notch!  Ballet, Jazz, modern and hip-hop are all taught by teachers who are charging $12 per class at the private SD dance studios (APA, Culture Shock, etc.).  All of this for $20 per unit and a few extra fees, plus classes are almost two hours long twice per week for a whole semester.  What a bargain!  These classes are great for those of us who used to dance in HS, but have gained a few, or got jobs, or started partying, etc.  Also check out the concert at the end of every semester (at the professional and elegant Lyceum theater in downtown), student performance and choreography opportunities abound!

Ah, yes. Everyone loves 13th Grade. Where cool guys and chicks still try to maintain that "status" they had in high school. Where fellas still wear their "Varsity" jackets. Where high school cliques try their damnest to stay together. Funny, I walk into the student cafeteria and I still see the same people grouping up at a certain table.

It's all over guys, time to move on. It's a whole new world.

I love the nicknames of this establishment: Mesa Tech, M.I.T.: Mesa Institute of Technology, UNLV: University Of Northern Linda Vista. Great times, great classes, convenient class times (at night) and love the low prices (tuition).

Not bad for the cheap ($20/hr) rate you are paying for classes here.

Parking sucks - welcome to SD. You'll pay another $30 for that privilege.

I'm almost done so I can smile AND review it!

The GIS program is okay but not supported well - department head can be difficult to get ahold of at times. Excellent instructors in the classroom.

This place is best for catching up on those general eds you'll need to get into the state schools.

I wish I could give good ol' Mesa 4 stars but it just seems like that would be too many for what it's worth. In the past 8 years, I have taken two classes there. One to satisfy a GE requirement while I was attending SDSU in 1999 and one now to enhance my work skills at my current job. I'm a product of a great community college in Mission Viejo and this one does not compare. Mesa is uninviting, stale and plain. It looks like an old high school with the plain cement walls and uninspired architecture. I'm used to trees, art and color at colleges that make the experience more exciting than drab concrete.
Other than the architecture, the classes can be hard to get in to. The cafeteria is nothing special, parking is a problem no matter what time of the semester you go.

I don't mean to bash on Mesa so hard. It's given me valuable knowledge so I could graduate and build up my current work skills. But it could be such a nicer school that could add to the overall experience.

Nothing sucks the life out of you like the tediousness of junior college classes but Mesa made it worthwhile.  The professors here were better than most that I had at UCSD and the education I received at Mesa is still paying off.  But holy cow, that parking lot....

It was a little much for me to get used to!

I took my first term of college here,
and being new to California, new to San Diego,
new to college at all ...
Mesa was overwhelming.
I didn't go to any kind of orientation either, whoops.

But after I got the hang of things,
I really started to like it.
The diversity of the students first and foremost.
Then the new Humanities building,
the amazing Library, and the cafe has a lot to offer, too.

Compared to Miramar College,
Mesa is a metropolis of things.
Miramar is so small, and not so diverse at all.
I feel out of place their half the time.

Mesa College was a lot of fun,
and the one thing I only hated about it was parking,
but I scheduled my classes around that issue.
And what's with people taking the stairs, like, 4 stories?
I hate those damn stairs.
It used to ruin my day!
I learned about the elevator, and life was pretty good, pretty good!

yes, parking sucks so if you're comming to this college get ready to drive in to the nightmare.
but don't worry, i've never heard that someone died because of this sucks parking system.
well, other than that, the school itself is good.
the library (known as LRC) is a wonderful building and good place to study, well sometimes some ppl can be really annoying and interrupting for whatever the reasons.
their cafeteria sucks because it's not cheap at all and not so healthy either.
but you're not going to school to eat, so...
anyway, mesa college is the highest rate transfering school to four year university  in sd. so it'll be the best for ppl who're planing to go to these universities such as sdsu and ucsd.
