Until the flood of craft brewpubs hit North Park, SD Brewing and its sisters were among your best options for decent pub grub with a large beer selection. When they still made their own spectacularly lean sausages, you could gather your entourage and center an evening around working through the beer board and a large brewman's plate.
Nowadays, though, they're second-tier options, suited for a happy hour or a casual dinner with friends. Their food can be described best by what their menu says about their Guacamole Bacon Cheeseburger: It is what it is.
In other words: good, unspectacular casual dining with a few hits. It's diverse enough you're sure to find something you'll like, and their version of something familiar can keep you coming back: Even with better and closer options in their niche, I still pop in a few times a year for the jalapeno beer cheese soup.
1) No one was there
2) The glasses were not clean.
3) My mimosa did not have enough champagne (this might just be a losing battle on my end though).
4) Biscuits and gravy = bisquik and gravy
5) The Chargers were losing.
After we left, the Chargers won. I don't know if that's a sign. I'll come back to try the beer, I won't be touching the food though.
I recently hit the Brewing Co. For some Happy Hour and to watch the Laker game (I know, I know, why would a non-basketball fan mention games in TWO reviews? Answer: I have a boyfriend.). I have visited this joint on several occasions and they have yet to disappoint, from the apps to the beer selection to the attentive staff.
The bartender we had on this occasion, however, made our experience Yelpable. He gave us great suggestions on food and even hints at modifications to make 'em better. I wish I could remember his name so I could give him props, but to be vague: ADORABLE LINEBACKER SIZED BARTENDER, THANK YOU!
Nachos are possibly the best in San Diego (Salsa on side, bartender recommended), and the veggie sandwich is FRICKEN' INCREDIBLE.
Beerwise, they used to have Harp which is my fave, but the San Diego Amber is tasty too. They have a full bar, but try some of the beers, for Pete's sake, you are at a brewery after all!
Only gripe is the Happy Hour isn't the Happiest around for drinks: only 50 cents off, I think, but for appetizers, a whopping 50 PERcent off made our check tiny tiny tiny. This place gets POPPIN' on Fridays so hit it during the week if you wanna grab a spot at the bar.
And if you get super mad cause it's so busy and all you wanted were some GD nachos and a beer, go to Rubio's in the same lot. Proceed to cry into your Corona.
HOORAY SD BREW CO!
Before there was Toronado or Hamilton's there was SDBC. This place has been here forever, serving craft beer and cafeteria food. Just kidding, kinda. The food isn't that bad, the pizza is actually pretty good but everything else is underwhelming. So don't come here for the food, come for the beer and the pinball. They brew 5 or 6 of their own beers and they have about 20 guest taps. They even serve a beer that they collaborated with Sierra Nevada on that you won't find anywhere else. They have the Attack from Mars pinball game here, which I think is the best ever. This place is ultra casual and great for familys or softball teams. They have breakfast on Sundays and the NFL ticket so this is a good spot to start early.
probably really a 3.5, but it's difficult to not like a brewery because they make beer. I like this place, don't get me wrong, but i did not find it to be the most impressive. It is just trying a bit too hard to be BJ's/Rock Bottom/Karl Strauss/etc. We got the six beer sampler for $6 and, unfortunately, they poured them all at once. I really wanted to take it slow and try each one, but they were getting flat and warm very quickly, so i was limited. Also, the taster glasses were very different sizes, so I felt a little ripped. Anyway, the nut brown was the bomb. I also really liked the IPA, the red and a couple others that I don't specifically remember. There was nothing amazing or standout about this place, but it was definitely decent. They are open a lot later than the warehouse, real deal breweries.
On the surface, this place just looks like your standard sports bar/restaurant. But the main draw here is the fact that they have a pretty impressive beer selection. There are a few macro-swill options available, but they also have dozens of fine craft brews on tap, including a few limited release beers that you can't find in many other places. And as the name would suggest, they brew their own beers as well, most of which are pretty solid. (I particularly enjoy the Choco-latte Porter).
The food isn't anything too special, but it's good. Great burgers, so-so pasta. On top of that, the service is great, and it's a fun, relaxed place to hang out with friends.
I had a "Oktoberfest Plate" - a daily special of 3 tiny sausages, a large pretzel (very good) and a slice of german ham. It was quite good for $7.99. I had a Amber beer and it tasted very similar to Karl Strauss Amber lager. good. My wife had a pint of the Gold, not bad, but doesn't compare to Gordon Biersch's Blonde Bock.
I would return only if I was in the area, without making a special trip. The dining area needs better lighting. It appears kinda dark and dingy.
Decent place for a beer and some appetizers with your friends.
I like it!!
They have an AWESOME selection of beer. I thought the food was good; especially the sweet potato fries. I also thought the service was pretty good. The waitress didn't know very much about beer, but she knew what was available on tap and she was really nice.
Overall... good place. Even just the beer selection makes this place worth a visit, or two, or three...
SD Brewing Co, is the place to go if you want to go to a casual sit down place for drinks and dinner. Their beer is great tasting, and their food is good. They have plenty of seating and nice mellow vibe. To be honest with my rating they would be on the barely a 4 level, but thats because of my own preferences when it comes to these style of places. Do not let that deter you from trying this place. The staff, and manager are friendly, and Id easily say this is a better option then if your considering TGIFridays
I haven't heard much about SDBC outside of their unassuming location on Mission Gorge Road. But after tasting their "San Diego Amber", I have to say that these guys deserve a seat at the adult's table of San Diego microbrewers.
There's lots of space inside the sports pub/microbrewery, which contains at least 12 taps. It's definitely got a neighborhood-y feel to it, in a good way.
Food is tasty, hearty and moderately priced. They have a very wide variety of sandwiches, dinners, and burgers. I ate a turkey burger with red onions and blue cheese (a recipe I thought *I* invented, but alas). Salads are large. The sweet potato fries and "pub chips" (steak fries) are also excellent.
With spring in full swing and me riding and playing in the hills of Mission Trails park, I will most likely find myself coming to SDBC more often (a convenient stop on the way home)!
Went there on a Wednesday night, and was mellow.
Sat at the bar and tender was really cool and friendly. Not much of a beer drinker so I can't fully appreciate what they have to offer. But, at least they have some hard stuff for us non beer drinkers.
Somehow, we got there in between happy hour. Yes, that's right folks, in between. Seems like we missed the one that ends at 6, and too early for the one at 7?! Huh? Anyways, got their sweet potatoes fries with honey mustard and hot sauce. Really yummy.
Happy eatings and drinkings,
T
The beer at this place is stellar. I wish I didn't come on a lunch break, because i could have stayed and drank for awhile. The food on the other hand was just average. The atmosphere was a little dark, more lights during the daytime wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe they are going for the old cellar feel, I dunno.
The jalapeno beer cheese soup was fantastic, I could drink and eat that all night!
This is a 3 star cute little place - but I'm throwing an extra one for the great follow up effort to clear this up earlier this week.
Oh, and cuz there's always loads of parking.

Two years ago, I would have given San Diego Brewing Co. four stars. The food was good and the beer was better. Yet something happened: the last few times I've been there, the service has been less than stellar, the in-house beer selection left wanting and the food, well... not very good. I don't know what's going on, and maybe I was there during a low streak, but I didn't like it at all. It's been some months now though so perhaps they've picked up their game; I suppose I should try again and see if anything has improved. I kind of hope so, because I did really like this place in the beginning.
Just once, I'd love to drop in here for a beer and a bite, and not feel like I was being served by a third-stringer.
Decent pub grub, and an undeniably great beer selection (their own brews, plus other greats), but in the 7 or so years that I've been going to this place, I've never once really had great service. It's like they are spending all their time and energy on award-winning brews, without considering how profitable a really great bar/restaurant could be.
Note to owners: get out more. Experience talented servers at other joints. Ask them to train your servers (or just throw some of that award-winning beer money at them to jump ship, and help the Brew Co. pull it's head out of it's ass.)
So all I've had there is the Jalapeno Beer Cheese Soup. And it's phenomenal.
About a month after going here for the first time I got the itch to go get some more of the soup. I give them 4 stars for this experience alone: They were just unlocking their doors and opening and I walked and asked if I could get a bread bowl with the soup to go. They let me know that the soup hadn't been prepared yet but they'd make it as fast as possible. They did, within ten or fifteen minutes they had they whole thing out to me neatly wrapped and sealed. Everyone was SO great in accommodating what I wanted and having a short wait time. The place is kind of old and dingy but the staff is incredibly nice and there are tv's galore.
Since my colleagues and I had some time off, we decided that Monday 12/22 was going to be our day of debauchery. However, since it was raining, we decided to just have lunch. Our original plan was for each of us to pick a scary bar to go to. Since this was close to our starting point, we went. Not that this place is scary, it was convenient.
It's not a bad set-up. Dining room in front, bar with tables right when you walk in. Pretty laid back atmosphere. They have a good selection of beers. I ordered an El 'Hefe'weizen because I like having a lemon in my beer and it feels like I'm drinking an iced tea.
Waitress: "Do you want the Big Boy Beers?"
Me: "Uh, yeah...sure...I guess I'ma big boy."
I swear, these glasses looked like pitchers. I think it was 32 oz. I couldn't even finish mine. I had the bbq pork sandwich. It was pretty good, a little greasy, and could have used a little more sauce. The wedge fries that came with could have used some kind of seasoning.
One of my friends had a brewery burger and the other the brewery works pizza. They both enjoyed them. So overall, it was a good experience. It would be interesting to come on a game day just to see what it's like.
So there we were, getting drunk and talking crap about all the teachers we hate working with. We also complained about our students. This was the first time I've sat down and really talked with them. This was the perfect place too because we were there for quite some time and the waitress didn't mind. She was friendly and checked back with us every so often.
It's not on my list of "I gotta come back," but if someone suggests going here, I wouldn't mind.
Great selection of beers. Veggie burger is good. Needs more tv screens.
What do you do when you move from one neighborhood to another and the girlfriend wants you to go with her to find a new nail salon to get her toes did?
You parlay that snoozefest into drinking beer of course. And that's how I came to try SDBC for the first time yesterday.
What I did was use my "Goldie Locks" deductive reasoning on the first three strip-mall nail salons we passed. "No not that one, it's janky", "eh, not that one it has no customers", "that one looks too dirty", "OH, this one next to San Diego Brewing Co, well this one looks just right".
Next thing you know she's getting her tree climbers filed and polished and I'm parking my petite ass on a bar stool asking the cute brunette bartender if she could please pour me a San Diego Amber. The crowd is a cornucopia of young singles or couples, middle aged ex-jocks, and business associates in for happy hour. The bar is fantastic with TV's broadcasting beloved pre-season football games and whatever other sporting event is on during football season.
So back to my beer drinking. The San Diego Amber goes down like water. Then I spy, with my cute brown eyes, the Old Town Nut Brown (he said nut) on the House Beer board. Cute brunette agrees with my choice to switch, saying I'd love it. And I do. I wrap my full lips around that glass and make out with that dark, brown, smooth ale like it was the last ale on earth. About as close to my favorite (Lost Coast Brewing Co. "Downtown Brown")as I have ever tried.
Two pints down, 30 minutes have passed. Do I dare try to consume one more? Goddamn right I do. AHHH, this pint of brown goes down just like the first. 10-15 minutes go by and while making love to the brown goodness inside my glass I come to realize I'm sitting in my new favorite hangout. It's close to my new home, the little lady can get de-clawed at the nail salon AND there are other places to eat if I don't want what's on SDBC's menu.
So anyway the third beer, my second brown ale is almost gone and the faint alert from a new incoming text message chimes from my pants pocket. Sweet Georgia Peaches, you wouldn't believe what it said, "nails done, now getting 15 minute massage".
How does that old children's song go, "if you're happy and you know it crap your pants". Well I did. Right there. Figuratively, not literally.
Cute brunette bartender please pour me another Old Town Nut Brown. I got 15 more minutes to enjoy with my brown ale mistress.
Went for 'Happy Hour' 50 cents off pints and 1/2 off appetizers. I tried the San Diego Amber and it was like any other Amber to me. I usually like Hefeweizen but their "EL HEFE" I didn't really care for. I also tried the Grantville Gold that was actually pretty good and I probably will have more of that next time. We also had the Brewing Co. Chicken Nachos with a side of Jalepenos and the Brewman's Plate. This place it actually pretty cool it's tucked away in a strip mall next to a bunch of other cool food places. Not too crowded probably cause it was Monday but I liked it.
Two words: Ranch Dressing. That is the primary reason I go to this place. As you have probably noticed, not all ranch dressings are created equal. Apparently they make the ranch in-house (I asked a waitress once) and it is quite delish. Have a salad, get some pub chips, or whatever else you find suitable for dunking in ranch dressing, and enjoy.
Oh yeah, they have beer too. Wide selection from expensive Belgian imports to their own in-house stuff. They even have something for the beer-wuss in your group - Callahan's Blueberry Wheat. Yum!
Food is consistently decent to good. (More ranch please!) I recommend the Tuna Melt, which is with a tuna steak instead of a blobby mayo mess. The pizza is another good choice, and it's easily enough for two people.
This place is comfortable and predictable. It's not glamorous. Hell, it's in a mini-mall.
In summary, I include it in the weekend rotation because of 1) Ranch dressing, 2) Beer selection, and 3) Location.
This place rocks. It's got a great atmosphere and it's close to my house. It's fun to go there with friends, or have a quiet breakfast one on one.
Family oriented and casual, San Diego Brewing Company hits the mark on being a friendly and upbeat place for good eats and booze. I don't know if they still have $0.10 wings on Wednesdays, but my friends and I used to go there for wings and beer after work. The other food they offer are pretty typical of any similar restaurant.
Never a bad experience and always fair pricing on food.
Gave San Diego Brewing Company a try the other night. We went there just for the beers and did not sample any food so this review is really of the beers and the service.
The service was ok to meh. Our server was very pleasant just not all that swift on the refills and not all that knowledgeable about what's on tap. When you ask "What kind of IPA's do you have" and they point at the board it really does not answer the mail.
SDBC's beers are meh. They had a rather interesting amber but the rest of the stuff tasted like they gave it the ol' college try but had not yet stumbled upon anything to write home to mama about.
The price on the other hand was a-ok. They have a taster deal where you can sample all of SDBC's beers for something like $7. Not bad. Their pints are in the $5 neighborhood which I can't complain about.
Two stars. Meh I've experienced better.
It's not often than this Orange County crew gets transplanted to San Diego County for the day, but the day after Christmas no one had to work and everyone wanted a change of scenery... And to be perfectly honest, we sought out that change of scenery at O'Brien's Pub in Kearny Mesa. As damned luck would have it (since we Buffet Boys are not fans of calling in advance), O'Brien's was closed for the Christmas holiday until Saturday the 27th. Errrr. Where to? My brother suggested SDB and off we went.
Located surreptitiously in a strip mall (seriously? a strip mall???), SDB is on the onset your typical brewpub restaurant. Spacious table area, more than ample bar area, and a ridiculous amount of flat panel televisions (which is awesome in our case, since the most riveting live sporting event on TV was a toss-up between a Chicago-Miami NBA game and women's college bowling.... seriously?) greet you upon entering. Right away my brother goes, "Don't order food, it's not that good here."
Then a sight that took our breaths away -- the beer board. We of the hophead variety very nearly fainted at gazing upon some of the outrageous and outstanding selection -- Deschutes Hop Trip! Alpine Pure Hoppiness! Russian River Blind Pig AND Pliny the Elder! And this was going to be our stomping ground for at least the next few hours? Sweeeet.
Our server, although mildly annoying, was really nice and helpful. She didn't even pester us with the usual IDing (not that I mind when people think I look young, but come on, it gets old when your 41-year-old brother gets carded too) and she was really patient with us when sometimes she would come over to try to start conversation and we would just give her blank stares. Haha I hope she wasn't offended, but with such great beer selection sometimes we just like be at peace with our brews.
The service and the beer selection alone prop SDB up to the four star rating, since ordinarily from me it would definitely garner a 3. Although we stayed through happy hour, we didn't bother to order appetizers. My little German brother ordered the steak salad, and it was alright -- nothing special without the pounds of extra salad dressing he mucked on there. Generally speaking, however, we were all really happy with the experience -- and $2.79 pint glasses to add to our home collections, nonetheless! -- and will definitely be coming back someday, although I am sure we'll be patronizing O'Brien's (since it's closer to us) first again.
I may catch a wave of shit for this review but honesty is my policy when writing. (I lie all the time in person.) My disappointment with San Diego Brewing Company is not with their brewers; they are awesome. My issue is with their service staff for the sole reason that in my experience, I have yet to meet a single server with above average beer knowledge. San Diego Brewing Company has access to beers that most San Diego Bars and Restaurants won't carry or can't get. When I ask my server to describe the difference between two beers of the same style, I expect them to at least be able to bullshit me. Let's share an example...
Ryan: Have you tried the 90-minute IPA?
Server: Yeah
Ryan: What did you think in comparison to Backstreet's IPA?
Server: They're both good.
Ryan: Oh yeah, how so?
Server: Well I haven't tried them but I've heard that they are good. You should try our IPA, it just won an award at the World Beer Cup.
Ryan: Have you tried yours?
Server: No, I don't really like IPA's.
Judging by the sheer fact that they are on draught at SDBC, I assumed they were good. I was more curious to know if there were any distinct differences in flavor, body, or abv. Was one more bitter? Were there any variations in hop flavor based on varietals used? I didn't really want an esoteric answer, I just wanted more than "they're both good". At Karl Strauss or Stone World Bistro, you can bet your ass the servers know enough to at least give you something to go with.
When I was a server, I memorized the entire food, wine, beer and specialty cocktail menus- not because I had to but because I was afraid of sounding like an idiot at my tables. Service in San Diego is generally lackluster at best. Most servers are college students that care more about getting their drink on off the clock than actually making an effort to be good at their jobs. I like San Diego Brewing Company for the beer but that is about it.
Im a regular at Callahan's in Mira Mesa, which is owned by SD Brew Co. so I wanted to check this place out. It's basically the same thing in a different location.
Good atmosphere and every tv had a game on (instead of the surfing channel). The beer selection is great and this happened to be cask night, so even more beers to choose from than usual. I tried the Hop Head and didn't like it so much. The house Amber was better so I stuck with that. Plenty of others though.
Food specials were good...1/2 off apps and $3 for 2 fish tacos. The food itself was not that great (and never is at Callahan's either) but what do you expect. Service was kind of slow but our server was friendly.
One side note...this bar kind of stinks. They need to change the carpets and get a HEPA in there or something. Who wants to eat or drink at a stank establishment? Who am I kidding...I'll be back.
Another fine San Diego establishment with good beer and reasonably priced, good food. Master Brewer, Dean Rouleau, is a nice guy with a creative mind. Who would have thought that beer made with Peeps could be so delicious! The people here are very friendly and this is a good place to watch sports.
Should be 4.5 stars... But, that's not available. =)
So, off Mission Gourge is a brewing company. I am sure many don't travel far enough eash on Friars to see it. But, those that are in the know have sampled there vast variety of beer ON TAP. I recommend trying the sampler. It gives you a great mix of all their house brews. I personally like the Blueberry beer. I typically don't like flavored beers. However, this was really good. They constantly feature a new brew. For example, at Easter they had "Peep Show." It consisted of melted down peeps brewed into the beer!
Minus a half star-I wish that the bar was even bigger. But, the only time that matters is holidays. Otherwise, there is plenty of seating.
BTW, try the nachos!
If you have a refined taste for quality beer than this is the best spot for you in the area. I have an embarrassingly unrefined taste for crappy domestic beer, so the Brewing Co's main appeal is lost on me.
The menu features a fairly standard selection of decent bar food at an average bar food price. The service is well above average most of the time and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.
It would be a two star spot if it weren't for three words: BEER CHEESE SOUP. That delicious concoction alone makes the SD Brewing Company worth a visit and single handedly kicks it up by a star.
Its St. Patrick's Day and all I wanted was one green beer. Just to say I had one. But in my family we don't drink the crappy stuff so the likelihood of finding one, slim to none. However, when I ordered a Fat Tire at SDBC and was asked "do you want to turn it green?," I was in heaven.
The beer selection gets 5 stars. Not only do they have their own beers but a wide selection of beers from around the SD and California area. For this east coast girl, just getting to drink Fat Tire (green or not!) was a good enough reason. I do recommend if you see a beer you want, order it immediately! We were very unlucky as we waited all evening to order a Pliny the Elder from Russian River, only to find out they had run out :(
The food... it was nothing exciting. The nachos were tasty but very heavy. I got a blackened chicken sandwich, which was good, but could have easily been recreated at my house. I was pretty excited that i was able to get cottage cheese as a side! That's very different and totally awesome.
The staff that works here is great. My parents have met two bartenders (Tyson and Christina) multiple times and they are super friendly. I recommend sitting at the bar! Also, this place opens early for football games so i recommend checking out their brunch!
They have a decent beer selection but are lacking in food and atmosphere. You can probably get equal if not better food at Denny's with better service.
This place has been around for a while and the beer selection and beer quality have been and continue to be very good. The staff used to be snotty but I have notice a lot of new bartenders and servers and the service has been good. The food is a little boring and hasn't changed in a long time. The Ranch is lame. Overall it is a good place for beer and friends. They have a lot of TVs and show a lot of games.
If you ever want orgasm in a glass without getting...jism in a glass (no this will not be the new 2 girls 1 cup) try their Double Chocolate Stout. Holy crap is this good...and addictive.
They do what little to no other bars/breweries in San Diego do, they offer a good selection of micro brews they make along with an equally good sized amount of other well known beers on draft. The food selection is pretty tasty too. It's definitely one of my more favorite Brew houses in San Diego. This place is definitely worth trying out!
Melinda D said it best, five stars for the tap lineup but the food....eh...
If a decent restaurant tried it's hand at compressing what could be good food into sub-par pub fare, they would stick a big sign outside that said, "San Diego Brewing Company".
The beers though - not bad by any stretch.
I've been about a dozen times now for lunch and dinner, and am totally stoked on the food quality. Not sure why a bunch of people are calling it "just bar food", its a full selection of bombness.
They just added a bunch of new TVs all over the bar and have all the games on.
Can you say "Happy Hour Bargain"???? $$$ CHA-CHING$$$
Located in a strip mall off of Friar's Road, you might be asking why this crazy girl is going to give them four stars.
You walk in, it's pretty plain. It's....ummm.....A BAR! With a section of tables and booths attached.....so why the four stars?
4 stars for the selection of beers. House beers are good. Old town nut brown. Or, try something else. An interesting choice was a Callahon Blueberry Wheat - which can be deemed a "chick beer" by my type-A male counterpart. That's cool though.
4 stars for the happy hour appetizer section. All your regular bar food - nachos, buffalo wings, chicken strips, quesadillas, onion rings and fries (that have the option to be loaded with cheese, bacon, etc). The food isn't over the top the best ever, but it is decent. A 4 out of 6 (ha, I had to make up my own rating scale to get my point across).
I guess the reason why I like it here is that it's just down to earth and not trying to be something that it's not. It's mellow. Everybody is nice. The bartenders, servers, customers- chill! It's not a meatmarket scene.
Gather up some friends if you are in the area and hit up happy hour. The end.
One of my favorites in San Diego.
You don't go here for the food, however. There are a few good things on the menu, but on the whole it's bar food. But the beer selection is near impossible to match. Besides about a half dozen house brews which are all very good (the Hopnotic is great!), there's about 30 other microbrews on tap.
The bar gets packed on Friday and Sundays during football season, but outside of those times it's usually pretty easy to get in.
If you love *good* beer, you owe it to yourself to pay them a visit.
This place is very similar to Callahan's in Mira Mesa but a little better.
It was nice and clean inside, and the atmosphere was pretty laid back. There seemed to be a lot of people in their late 20's and up. Lots of couples - it's definitely not a pick-up bar. It wasn't rowdy whatsoever. If I had family or important clients in town, and they're up for a safe bar experience, this place would likely come to mind.
They have a ton of beers on tap, and I went with their "Old Town Nut Brown" and enjoyed it. It was basically a dark brew with a hint of coffee and caramel. I also got their Brewery Burger and it wasn't bad. It was pretty much your standard bar burger. The potato wedges that came on the side were decent. There was plenty of seating, and our server was prompt and polite.
My only complaint is about the men's room. It was a bit foul and had the overwhelming smell of chemicals in it. If you ask me I think they need to redo the entire thing.
I admit, I usually get bored at places like this. However, I like good beer, and I recognize this place for what it is. I'll give them 4 stars out of 5.
I went here on Friday night. I live in Normal Heights and i wanted to watch the Boston/Celtics game and eat halfway decent food. Not just regular bar food.
There is NOTHING like that in Normal Heights/Northpark. I mean a place that is clean and serves above average food, with loads of flatscreens.....anyway..i digress.
This was probably the worse decision i could have made. Was looking around on yelp/Internet for a place to satisfy by sports/food desires. Found S.D. Brewing CO. Their website was nice. Menu looked nice...lots of T.V.s
This place looks dirty as soon as you walk in. You could tell that the only reason this place is still in business is because of their local clientele. If drinking and driving was legal, i don't think anybody would go here. This place is busy, just because people live near.
I got the appetizer Chx Tenders tossed in wing sauce. They were actually cooked perfectly. The only problem being that they may have been cooked 20 mins b4 they got to my table. They were at BEST luke warm. So there is hot, warm, & cold. These were somewhere in between cold and warm...They were about room temperature.
Now normally i would say something, get myself some hot food. But this place gave off the wrong vibe. The kinda vibe that something unappealing may happen to my food if i send it back. So i suffered through.
My fiancee got the Philly Cheese Steak. (she does this all the time, i always recommend her not doing it..a PHILLY Cheese steak in a strip mall brewery in California????) anyway...They cut the center out of the weird wheat type roll, and dumped the meat in there. You could not even pick up the sandwich. The meat inside was actually OK. She enjoyed that part.
I had a beer which actually was delicious. My lady had a coke and she got a prompt refill. Service was actually pretty good. But the food was dismal. Once again, this is one place i will never go back to. Kinda like one strike your out
Goodness me, I wish I remembered our waitress' name because she was just a ball of new-jersey-born-joke-crackin good times. We went on Friday to meet up with some friends, who were running exceptionally behind. We sat and waited for them about an hour, taking up a table in this busy restaurant/bar. Did we hear one complaint? No! She was fabulous (although sadly, she let me order the Blueberry Wheat beer, which was just vile and wrong.)
Our friends nibbled and order of Pub Chips with us, and I had finally decided to go for my old stand-by the vodka&cranberry. BF got his usual weakness, the beer cheese soup, I got chicken fingers, friend Erin nachos with steak, and her fiancee a veggie burger...? Everyone was pleased, and no one was able to finish. (We wound up pouring the soup on top of the nachos, and upon reheating BF gave it an enthusiastic thumbs-up.) Food = good. May i also recommend the Chipotle Steak Sandwich and the Chocolate Stout (it has a coffee essence.)
I subtracted stars because of two things:
1. I get a creepy-crawly feeling here. I don't know what it is, but it feels dirty.
2. I wasn't told that the vodka would be top-shelf, and my drink cost a couple dollars more than I would have liked to spend... had I known, I would have gotten something else.
We will go back, as long as we get the same waitress.
