3 reviews for San Carlos Inn
We were going to a wedding down in Monterey and needed to find a place to stay for 3 nights that wouldn't break the bank. We were having a hard time finding something because the Big Sur Marathon was happening when I came across this hotel's website. I was a little hesitant to book a room because I wondered how it was that this place was the only one in the area not booked solid. But, I pushed those paranoid feelings aside figuring Days Inns are fairly reliable and how bad could it be in downtown Monterey?! When we arrived, we found out that we were actually staying in the Annex which is right behind the main hotel. It turned out to be a bonus because you're off the main street so it's much quieter. Plenty of parking too. We were really happy when we got to the room and saw how large it was. The bed was fairly comfortable and amenities were fine. The front desk staff was very helpful getting us information for a taxi and came right to the room with a replacement hairdryer when we realized the one in the room didn't work.
The location is great. A 10 minute walk to Fisherman's Wharf where the whale watching boats dock and about a 30 minute walk to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Plenty of restaurants and cafe within a stones throw and the Del Monte Mall is just up the street.
We'd definitely stay there again.
Found this place through the budget travel deal sites. Was impressed with the quality of this place. Clean rooms, not too small, affordable and located just off the main strip of downtown Monterey. We walked everywhere we went, the aquarium being the furthest at about 1.5 miles away.
Checked in and JD helped us out. Real nice guy. If it's sleep and a shower you're looking for, this is the place.
I cannot stress enough how this is the best hotel in Monterey for it's price. Any cheaper and you're actually in Sand City. Any closer to the downtown or the Cannery area and you're looking at paying up to three times as much per night. It's clean, comfy and all around a great place to stay.
