16 rotating taps of US brewed craft beer? Fantastic bottle selection? I am in.
Dylan and his staff are passionate about beer and know their stuff. You likely won't find your regular beer here. And if you do it won't be there tomorrow because the taps are constantly rotating. For someone who is always looking for something new and tasty this is the place for you. The beers change but the constant here is quality.
I haven't explored the menu fully but only because between how awesome the blue plate special typically is and the amazing Cootie Burger don't make me want for anything else. -
Review from Gary R.
Holy hoppy happiness! Please god make me a bird so I can fly to this place often!
First things first... It's in historic old town Folsom and has taken seriously the nostalgic feel required to fit in around here...
It's all about beer here right? Over 15 beers on tap and a list over 100 bottles. Who can go wrong? Well, even for a beer lover like me that list is a bit overwhelming. I stuck with the draft menu and the influence from the "beertender" :)
So, the Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye and the Trumer Pils were up first. The Ruthless Rye was so well balanced with just enough hops to round it out that we had to have a second round! The Trumer Pils was fresh and tasty, but maybe better saved for a summer day.
We also tried the Knee Deep Brewery's "Zack's Double IPA." Hops abound in this brew and I was quite taken with it.
We also had some treats to go along with the brews... The "Cootie" burger, with pepper jack cheese, raw spinach, Serrano aioli, and fiery roast Serrano Chilis topped with an over-easy fried egg did the trick! It was full of flavor and I will most certainly be back for more of that!
The shoestring fries were okay, but I've had better.
There is no waiter service here. You order up at the bar and they bring the fixins to the table. this should be remedied.
Otherwise, this was a mighty fine gastropub... We'll be back for the Johnny Cash burger with bourbon BBQ sauce. Til next time! -

This place has a good old town saloon feel to it with a nice selection of craft beers.
As for the food, the Johny Cash Burger was absolutely delicious! I kind of keep thinking about going and having another one.
I'd definitely make it a point to drop in in anytime I'm in Old Town Folsom.
An added bonus is that It was nice to try a few different beers while the ladies go walk and shop the Old Town Stores. -

This place is great. It's pretty small, however, they have a fantastic selection of beers! Their food is delicious too. Cheers!

I love this place! I love the beer selections and the blue cheese bacon fries and the dobbie and the atmosphere and the trivia! I could go on. The one thing I don't like about this place is the fact that it's so small. Sometimes finding a place to sit is a beast and the most comfortable leather chairs are always taken! If this place had a hundred leather chairs like the ones by the window, it would be my idea of heaven and I'd find a way to give it six stars instead of five.

Sacramento, CA
I was expecting something glitzier and larger, and was pleasantly surprised to find a small (really only a few tables and a couple of community-seating wood counters w/bar stools), comfortable, funky-feeling pub. The selection of brews on tap is fabulous! The burgers my friends and I had were super tasty, and my vegetarian sister was happy with her vegetable/cheese grilled sandwich -- er, panini. The fries that came with the burgers were better than some I've had but not the highlight of the meal. But even if they had been frozen Ore Ida's, I would still return to this place for the atmosphere and the awesome beer!

Samuel and I have a bittersweet, long distance relationship. I wish I could see him every day, but alas, because of the distance between us, it's only an occasional rendezvous.
Still, every time I show up at his door, he looks better than ever, donning classically dapper yet casual attire that makes me melt right into his arms.
During our date, Samuel spoils me a fantastic selection of craft brews and complementary bar food. Sam knows just my taste!
In the end, we must part ways, and I spend my 30-mile bike ride, train trip, or by car ride home thinking about how lucky I am to have met Samuel Horne and to have him in my life, even if we only meet on that rare occasion.Listed in: Beer!

This place is awesome. I came in here yesterday during a break on my Monday Funday festivities across the street at Sutter Club. The dude I have been allowing to hang out with me got the Johnny Cash burger and I got the regular cheese burger, and they were awesome. The fries were super duper good, too. They reminded me of McDonald's fries, which is weird cause I hate McD's but I love their fries. They are legit.
I know that beer aficionado's will love this place. They have a ton of beer you don't normally see on draft, or even in a "normal" bars inventory. I don't care about beer but I care about the concept. Score.
I almost wanted to give this place only 4 starts because the potties are outside and around the corner, but that is just the way the building is laid out. It is so tiny in there that we were lucky to get a bar seat. Real real lucky. So 5 stars it is.
Our bartender, her name is Natalie, was awesome. She made me a legit Bloody Mary and was definitely on her game. As a fellow slinger of the sauce I appreciate a bartender who can multi task and not look like a confused mess. She had it together.
I will definitely be back! -

The beer selection alone makes it 5 star. This weekend, for the first time, we ate their. And let me tell you it was outstanding. Ordered the Johnny Cash Burger with BBQ Sauce, Bacon and cheese on a delicious potato bun. Wonderful!!

Great selection of beers on tap! The bar carries a wide range of micro brews which makes this place special...! Nice ambiance, great lighting and decor. Got to love the empty kegs turned into seats...!
I didnt get a chance to try their menu but I've heard great things about the garlic fries!
Note: Would like to see them carry some barley wines selections though. Other than that this place is on point...! -

My burger was juicy and very tasty. The fries that came with the burger were crisp. Lots of beers on tap and I like that they tell you the bitterness rating. The one drawback was the second beer I ordered, I only got a wine glass amount. Apparently it had a high alchohol content so you get a smaller glass.
Think I'll stick with Sam Horne's for the food but drink my beer across the street at Lockdown. -

Love the small town atmosphere!
This place is a little cozy hangout for beerlovers. I am not a beer lover and I can still appreciate the awesomeness here.
No I didn't have beer but the pear cider I had was off the hook. And the turkey burger was amazing. The chili fries, OH so so bad for you but tastes so good.
I even enjoyed the spinach salad.
The only downside is seating. There is not a lot of places to sit down comfortably so get here early or try to come when it's not too crowded.
I love the thoughtful pursehooks under the tall bar tables!
Bathroom was not a delightful experience =( but I'll live.
Welcoming atmosphere, maybe a little odd for people who are used to full table service.
Here is a clue, you order food and drink at the bar, they give you a number to place at your table, you wait for the food and voila it appears. -

First time I went there the food and service were great. The second time they cut their burger size in half from the first time (price was the same) and messed up everybody's order at our table. I thought I had found the perfect hang out but I guess I'll keep looking. Two stars because the food was still good (can't blame the chef).

Sam Horne's is a fantastic beer tavern. With rotating taps of some very hard to find and always incredibly good beer - it's obvious the owner does his homework and wants to bring the beer lovers beers to love.
The pricing is incredibly reasonable considering how rare a lot of the beers he brings in are. You could pay similar prices for way more common and less remarkable beer in several venues in Sacramento.
The food is great beer chow, too. Nothing that will really knock your socks off, but food that is good with beer swilling and they keep the prices low and the portions large so that you can spend your dough on the beers.
This is a great excuse to hop on the Light Rail, head to historic Folsom and have some quality craft beers. Their facebook page - https://www.facebook.c... - is constantly updated with the latest taps... honestly, I think they rotate their beers more frequently than most fro-yo places, so if you see a great beer in this heap of good reviews and are expecting it to be there - it might not be.
The only only only bad thing about this tavern is that it is small and quickly fills up. The staff is super accommodating and patient to crowds - but if you come looking for a table, go early.
Cheers!Listed in: Best Places to Get Good Beer

Fine scotch in your hand, comfy chair under your butt, tasty food in your mouth.*
This is a great atmosphere to just sink into a comfortable leather chair and drink some amazing beer and scotch with friends. I ordered a moonlight IPA and an Oban scotch. Both were excellent. The beer list is stunning for the area and offers lots of interesting local choices that you can't find everywhere.
The steak and peppers sandwich was super cheesy and had a boatload of fries that came with it. It would be perfect to satiate even the most ravenous drunken craving.
It was extremely quiet for a Saturday evening when I went but I can imagine it getting fairly busy during prime times.
If you go there you can play a fun game I invented. It's called "try to glance at the cute waitresses without looking creepy". I win every time. Mostly.

This will be based on the service and and drinks only. First, if you are going to serve alcohol - do it right or not at all. I got that you are a "micro brew thingy" place but if you want to serve whiskey, Bourbon, etc..have the decency to have the minimum, like say Jim Beam.
With that said I opted for a shot of Jack Daniels and was handed a plastic thimble full of JD, I thought she was kidding or was giving me a sample. OK, lets try the 7&7 for the wife, nope, no can do..no Seagram's lets try Crown..it was glass of coke with a hardly any Crown, so we gave up, took the drink back unfinished and left ($10).
If you like the crowd with the one inch ear plugs, might be 21, and oh and serving yourself from plastic water jug, and drinking beer from a modified wine glass, its all you..I give Samuel Hornes Tavern 6 months.
Oh, if you are going to have classic Hamm's sign on the wall, at least serve it! -

A perfect fit for Historic Folsom. A very chill place to enjoy a few beers with friends, especially during happy hour.
Gotta try their bag-shaken fries...I prefer the blue cheese/bacon ones. -

Good beer, yes. Surprisingly tasty burgers, indeed. Casual environment with a diverse crowd, you bet. This is the best place on Sutter Street. I have been here 4 times always on a Saturday night or a Sunday afternoon, always leaving pleased as punch. One of the best beer institutions Folsom has to offer. Good prices + good food + good beer = a great time.

Samuel Hornes Tavern is unique in the sense that they have REAL passion for GREAT Beer. You can see that every tap they have drafted is a great representation of that beer style.
They strive to support the local beer industry and have a passion for what they do. I always look forward to what's new at Sam Hornes! So many QUALITY beers on TAP!
Food is decent for a pub / bar, and the Beer is GREAT. Love what they did with the interior, and always friendly.
The Johnny Cash Burger is the BEST! Bacon and homemade BBQ Sauce with Bourbon and Coffee! -

We are very spoiled in Folsom. We have several great pubs with great beer line ups. Sam Hornes is by far the best. With 16 taps and a constantly rotating selection of all american craft beers you will never get bored here. The staff is friendly and very efficient and the food is second only to the Steak House on the same street. The prices are very fair especially durring happy hour. Even my stuck up step monster enjoys this place(which is probably the only draw back I can think of)
Take my word for it. I know a little about beer http://30beersofnov.bl.../

If I'm being honest, I'm kind of writing this as a proxy for my boyfriend who LOVES this spot. While I'm not the hugest beer drinker, this place has an undeniably incredible beer selection. It's definitely a cool little pub and a rather nice surprise to find in Folsom. For non-beer drinkers, they DO have a few wines that they offer, but don't expect an incredible wine menu (go next door to The Cellar if you're looking for wines). Also, they have a pretty intense trivia night on Wednesday -- get there early and come prepared!

Came here with a friend of mine for the first time. Yeah, so maybe I shouldn't have stopped in during Beer Week. But then you'd think that it would be the perfect reason to drop into Samuel Horne's, right?
It seemed that this was not the case. Apparently there was some sort of beer dinner going on and "all the dinners were sold out." However the couple next to us were offered the option of participating.
The woman working here was obviously irritated that other clients dropped in that were not part of the dinner crowd. They also stopped serving their normal bar menu fare from 4:00 onwards. So I wasn't sure if I should stay or should I go since I was hungry, but I drove all the way out here in the frickin' rain, so I was going to at least have a beer dammit!
The conversation went like this:
Me, hesitant, because no one greeted us: Um...hi, I would like to try your beers. What do you recommend?
Woman acting impatient: Well, it depends.
Me: Well, I'm more a wine drinker, so I don't know my beers too well. But I would like something not too bitter, etc. etc.
Woman: Then try the Sierra Nevada Glissade or the blah blah blah (I don't remember).
Friend: What does IPA mean?
Woman rolls eyes, replies curtly: It means India Pale Ale.
What the conversation COULD HAVE been like:
Woman: Hi! We're currently having a special dinner here tonight, but you are more than welcome to try out some of the beers we have. Do you know what you would like?
Me: Oh no, this is my first time here! What would you recommend?
Woman: Well, if you like this style of beer, then blah blah is great. I know you guys wanted to get a bite to eat. Sorry that we don't have the kitchen available, but please come back to try us out again.
Me: I'm totally coming back! This place is cool.
Friend: What does IPA mean?
Woman with a smile: It means India Pale Ale, a style of brewing, fairly hoppy-tasting.
So my friend already said she's not coming back here or recommending it. But I am going to give this place another shot. I mean, my other Yelpie friends had better experiences, and I trust their judgment. They obviously didn't get the same woman I had. Either that or in their opinion good beer overrides rude service, LOL.
Oh yes, the beer was fantastic! Fantastic enough to put up with attitude, mmm...no. -

I guess they don't love us any more.
Last winter, Samuel Horne's was our goto place after the mountain bike ride I host every Friday. As the weather got better, I wanted a place with outdoor seating, so we starting going somewhere else.
I was in last Tuesday and was treated to a very cold shoulder. The person who was with me even said: "Hey. Why's that bartender being such an A$$ hole?" I guess he resented the fact that I was taking the mountain bike group to more comfortable surroundings. Instead of welcoming what business I offered, he seemed angry that I was guiding my friends somewhere else. Here's a hint. If you want me out of your life, show me some anger and I'll be gone forever.
We went in yesterday and the beer was $4.50! I asked what happened to happy hour and was informed that it started in 45 minutes. It used to start whenever we got there. I'm never going back. I'll drink a can of Bud sitting on the curb before I go in this place again. And those of you who know me know that will NEVER happen.Listed in: Can I get a beer over here?, Nummy munchies!, Why bother?, Happy Hour Hotline!, Bike Trail Eats!

Nice place to get together and have a good time. I went there with a friend and we had a good time. Seems like it can get very busy and doesn't have much room, but we had no issues. Good food and a big selection of beers.
Can be really loud though, but then again it is a tavern. -

Ten drinkable reasons to visit Samuel Horn's:
Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter
Oskar Blues Old Chub Scottish Style Ale
Moylan's Kilt Lifter Scotch Style Ale
Rogue Chocolate Stout
Avery Hog Heaven Barleywine Ale
Marin Brewing White Knuckle Double IPA
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
Rogue Brutal Bitter Ale
Russian River Damnation Strong Golden
Avery the Reverend Quadruple Stout
My favs are the dark beers. As they say here, "don't be afraid of the dark!"
And if you need another reason, ol' Sam serves up some incredibly tasty burgers. I've never been disappointed. The Johnny Cash burger is a fitting tribute to the man who made the nearby prison famous! -

If Sam Horne's was a movie, it would be a 90's cult classic.
Beer selection is exclusively domestic craft beers, 16 of which are on tap. The food selection is pretty bad, but this isn't that kind of place.
More than anything, the atmosphere is what will bring me back for more. The beer is good, the fact that you have to order everything at the bar is kind of lame, and the food sucks, but the atmosphere is relaxed, intimate, and worth being the place you start your night.
As other reviews have said, this is a cool place and obviously experiences a ton of repeat business. -

The Cootie burger is one of the best in town and they have one of the finest lineup of beers in the region.
The vibe is also great in there and Sutter St in Folsom is the perfect location for this place. If only Rocklin could get something half as cool in their "no downtown." -

Great selections of beer and incredible burgers. Keep up the good work.
Only wish the place was larger. I have been there 3 times and haven't been able to find a place to sit. No worries though... I can stand and drink (for the first few beers at least). -
Review from Diana C.
With no car to drive, I rarely leave the grid anymore. But I feel ashamed to have lived in the Sacramento region for over 4 and a half years and have yet to experience Historic Folsom. So on one of my furlough Fridays, I braved a Light Rail ride out there to check out Sutter Street.
I had remembered Tara H and Roman C's reviews of Samuel Horne's Tavern. It sounded way too cool to pass up so I gave it a shot. As the only customer at 2:30 in the afternoon, the beermaster was stern but informative of the draft beers. I don't remember what I had anymore, as there were around 16 to choose from, but I complemented my adult beverage with a French Dip sandwich.
Maybe I haven't had a French Dip sandwich in awhile, but oooo-weee! It was good! Juicy pieces of roast beef, soft bread, salty au jus and a monstrous mound of fries on the side. I felt like I was eating a little piece of heaven.
After I roamed around in Old Town a little bit, I came back to SHT for more. Yup, I admit, I can be somewhat of an alcoholic at times. This time, I came for the 100 mile happy hour, where all draft beers that are brewed within 100 miles of SHT are half price (i.e., $2.50 or $3 for a pint). Ahh...the good local stuff.
Very glad to have made a stop here on my half-day adventure. With close to an hour Light Rail ride ahead of me and a couple more brews in my belly, I was ready to head home a happy camper.Listed in: Places to Get Tipsy -…, Sipping and Gorging for Cheap…

I have to say that I dig this place. A quaint, laid back, non-douche infested pub on Sutter Street? Who knew.
Each time I've come here I've gotten a burger and WOW. The burgers are packed with flavor, have loads of toppings, and are dripping with deliciousness. The last time I went I had the Johnny Cash burger that's topped with salty bacon, cheddar and onions. Follow that with a huge helping of shoestring fries for $8.50? Um, okay!
Holy beer heaven. They're selection is outstanding, and a little daunting with all their choices. But thankfully they're cool if you ask "hey, this is what I typically like. What do you recommend." Mmmm. Beer.
The service isn't lightning speed, but it always comes with a smile. I've been there three times now, and plan on returning many times to follow.Listed in: ROTD's Make Me Smile

Great happy hours! 4 to 6! If the beer was produced within 100 miles of Horne's , then it is half off! Great food specials too, both for lunch and for Happy Hour. Try the bacon cheese fries, outstanding.
The lunch specials are great too and are 5 dollars each.
The food is excellent, I love the peanut butter burger. UNBELIEVABLE! Try the chef's special too, then you can see that these guys can create food outside the pub grub genre. The fries are the only quibble I have (and it is a teeny weeny one) and that is only that they use frozen shoestrings. But I gotta say, they are the best frozen fries I have ever had. Never are they underdone or overdone, they are always perfect.
But the beer is why I go there. Outstanding beer selection both on tap and in bottles. Some rarities too. I love that they do mostly NORCAL beers and the owner tries to have as many different styles available as possible.
The beers are served in the proper glassware too,and as a beer snob, that is something you look for. It shows how they care.
All of the servers are great, friendly and very knowlegable about the beers.Listed in: Best Happy Hour

Sammy's is a great "hole-in-the-wall" beer serving establishment with an on-going rotating beer menu updated on "the board." The serving staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to let you taste before buying. Friday nights and weekend nights are often busy; thus, leaving you standing until a booth or bar stool opens up. The atmosphere is truly downtown Folsom, but a little loud at peak serving hours.
