thank god sam left ghana and came to the bronx to open his soul food restaurant. he serves up a platter of food the way i like it, heaping, hot, delicious, and salty.

this is some of thenthe best soul food i have ever had in new york. the restaurant is really loud and friendly and sam is one of the nicest owners i've ever encountered, he talks about food with the same passion that i exude when i pig out.
props that no tourists come here either. leave them Sylvia's.
I would have like to have ate there seeing as how the food looked and smelled good but the dining room was closed to prepare for a party and we were denied the 3 open seats at the counter because they are where the owners sit if they come in?! Yeah pretty messed up! Needless to say I won't make the long trek to Sam's ever again, it's just not worth it for a chance at eating.
We came here after the Yankee game. Wow I wasn't expecting much but it was sooooooooo good. Oxtail was soft and tasty without being salty. The pork chop was also really soft with a tasty sauces. The friend whiting was so soft and good. I can't believe how good everything was. When I asked the waitress for a recommendation, she told me everything was good. She wasn't kidding. Usually I don't agree but this is one of those rare occassions that I do. All of the main dishes come with 2 sides (mac & cheese, collard greens, mixed veggies, etc.)
This place was GREAT! I went here for lunch when I was attending a conference nearby. Had the combo plate of BBQ chicken with greens and corn bread -- it was absolutely delicious and cheap ($7ish) and a substantial portion. Friends had the jerk chicken which was also very tasty (although hot). Would absolutely go here again for BBQ and to try out other items on the menu.
