Back to my roots - Morning Glory is the best breakfast joint I've ever been to. I was last here in January of '07 when I revisited the east coast and found this place to still being the real deal. The pancakes and sunny side up eggs were killer and so was their hot chocolate, which surpasses the ones I usually waste money on while at Starbucks.

This is a real American breakfast joint and makes other known establishments like Denny's look pretty sorry.

It rarely happens (actually that's a bull faced lie, but I choose to plead the 5th on the other accounts), But surprisingly there comes a rare occasion where McThrill is dead wrong! Yes I know your completely and utterly shocked, But there's just some situations where I have to come clean and admit it. And with that said, I really need to jump in and change my original stance on Sam's Morning Glory Diner (http://www.yelp.com/to...).

In admitting my lack of better judgment, I do feel that I have to explain myself. And honestly my stance wasn't so much based on what I knew, but what people told me about it (you're reading this off a review site, so at least it's something that we're all guilty of to a degree :D). I've heard a lot of people absolutely rave about Morning Glory, but they all had one thing in common. The single solitary thing that they all used to try to lure me in was something that I consider to be the most ungodly of condiments: Ketchup (http://www.yelp.com/to...). So naturally by my stance on the foul beast of a tomato, I wasn't very impressed. But what's more, out of an entire restaurant that these people raved about, homemade ketchup was the only thing that they could tell me about? As a result it gave me the misconception that Sam's was more than a little bit gimmicky. But it finally took someone who was capable of telling me about everything else to make me want to jump on the wagon. and let's just say that everything else sent me to food heaven, even more so when I tried it!

Had I have known off the bat that a visit to Sam's Morning Glory gave me the chance to procure challah French toast stuffed with banana's and mangoes, and plated alongside whipped cream and caramel, then my belly would have been jumping with joy from the aftermath a long time ago! But the fact that I was also provided with a side of turkey sausage that came from a local farm, a fresh baked homemade muffin, and homemade cranberry jelly (These are the homemade things that you want to tell someone about people!) was beyond amazing. Out of curiosity I also tried the ketchup, and as you may guess, its still not my bag.

Another thing I have to voraciously applaud is Morning Glory's service. Lets face it the weekend brunch crowd and wait can oftentimes be more hardcore than it is at most bars and restaurants. And since I saw the porch way that people waiting for a seat at, and the good sized waiting list, Morning Glory is no exception. And that can be kind of hardcore to the people serving and running the show. So when my party of two was called up during a time when my dining partner was running 10-15 minutes late, I was a bit worried that the proverbial shit was going to hit the fan. But the hostess and our server were extremely accommodating, understanding, and friendly every step of the way despite it. And what could be better then that? How about the fact that we were offered a short stack of pancakes from one of their awesome cooks! and were not just talking ordinary pancakes; we're talking pancakes that were stuffed with fresh strawberries, blueberries, and just a tinge of chocolate. And that fellow Yelpers is your moment of zen!

So while it might be a long shot one way or the other, as long as admitting I'm wrong leads to a brunch environment that's pure heaven on earth, I might just to admit it more often. But then again, nothing is as right as a plate that's filled with fruity pancakes. And for that Morning Glory is pure bliss! And be sure to check their dessert menu for some of the freshest pie that you ever did see!

"Be nice or leave" is the motto on the shirts of the staff. And although it is too busy in there to have any sort of chitchat with the staff, they are nice to you and very wiling to get you whatever you need. The service is good.

You almost always have to wait, some might think it is too long but it is worth it, they have a nice outdoor waiting area to sit so you don't have to stand around for an hour.

They have all the basics, pancakes, eggs, all the meats, waffles etc., some lunch items like sandwiches and salads and some specials too. Everything I've had here has been awesome and they squeeze their own orange juice (it's delicious.) Someone walks around and refills the coffee too!

I like that you have the option of sitting at the bar too, very dinerish, you can watch the cooks do their magic.

Great location, good food.

The number of times we drove past this dandy little joint in south Philly without ever even noticing it is certainly innumerable. Well, truth be told, I did notice it every time we made the trek from West Philly to South Philly for cheesesteaks at Pat's - the dangling flowers on the outside always lead me to believe that it was a flower shop. The association was strange, I know, and fortunately, 9 years later, I stumbled over this glorious little diner at the corner of 10th and Fitz.

Every diner seems to have its own little quirks that make it charming (or an event to be forgotten) and Morning Glory is no exception. Most noticeable are the stainless-steel coffee cups (that I've heard were relics of a by-gone era that the diner scarfed up upon discovering them). And if, by any chance, that story is true, it adds just a bit more to this diner's lure. Additionally, the ketchup is home-made and served in giant green glass bottles and a variety of condiments abound -- my favorite, perhaps, was the Scorned Woman Hot Sauce.

I can be sold on anything, as long as it's easy on my eyes and the very first time I sauntered into Morning Glory on an overcast, late-June day, I knew what I wanted before I was even seated. The grand, green Breakfast Burrito yelped at me from the plate it rested on at the bar as I walked by to my seat in the comfy blue (and rather inviting) dining room. Presentation is key and Morning Glory, perhaps, excels like no other (diner). It's the little things that count and the small slices of fresh-cut melon (honey dew or cantaloupe) are laid neatly on the side of one's plate. And let me take one second to gush about the fruit; having grown up in farm country (Lancaster, PA) I am somewhat of a produce snob and the honey dew I had that morning rivaled anything I'd ever find at Central Market in downtown Lancaster, and that, my friends, is an awfully difficult task to accomplish.

Typically, I prefer to avoid long lines, so i enter early (7 on weekdays or 8 on the weekends) and in my last visit, the cooks were singing and carousing with the servers and with the regulars (reading their Inquirers or City Papers at the bar). One of the regulars rolled up in a tan Chevy pickup, straight out of the sixties and, for a moment, I lost myself inside this little diner-world, soaking in the timeless ambiance of excellent food and damn-near perfect atmosphere.

Morning Glory ain't no flower shop, as I so wrongly assumed my sophomore year of college, and that's a glorious thing. You'd be best to visit (and make yourself a regular relatively soon).

This place really has the atmosphere down. Walk through the doorway wreathed in actual morning glories and into a classic diner setting. It's a transporting and relaxing feeling.

However, from there we hit a few bumps. They had no orange juice, for one thing. Whaa? Also, some things were still listed on the menu that were no longer available (like cherry chocolate toast). Our waiter was pretty disconnected as well -- never a great thing.

The food made up for it, though. My pecan waffle with peach butter combined the best aspects of savory and sweet, the nutty waffle batter marrying nicely with the melting fruity topping. I was full for quite a while that day.

The details needed to be tweaked, but Sam's serves a solid meal.

I make damn sure never to go to any well known brunch place on a weekend, especially in my neighborhood. Damn yuppies love them some brunch don't they? I really don't care to see yuppies enjoying life, I really don't, so I go to breakfast places when they aren't there. Like weekdays.
That's when I will hit Morning Glory.
I can only describe it as a greasy spoon diner that uses quality grease and sterling silver spoons. (they don't really) It is just good, interesting breakfast food with some staples and some 'off-beat' selections. I have enjoyed everything I have eaten here and the staff is friendly. No complaints, and I really like to complain about things.

One of the first places I fell in love with in Philly. Before I lived here, I would visit my sister in the city, and she would bring me here for some brunch. I continue the tradition, bringing my friends from out of town here when they visit.

Lots of vegetarian/vegan options, and they usually have a really awesome list of specials that I'll choose from. Everything is fresh and homemade. Even the ketchup is homemade. And I could live on the biscuits and jam.

The west-coast wrap is really good if you want something light and fresh. Full of veggies, but not boring/bland.

I never can finish my food, but am always sad about it, because it's so delicious.

It's always great to go here early afternoon on a week day because there is definitely no wait for seating. The wait is rough on the weekends.

So I've heard a lot of good things about this place.  A TON.  I was pretty excited to come here.  When I got there I looked at the menu, and scanned it back and front, breakfast and lunch, and I really couldn't find one thing I REALLY wanted.  That was the first problem.  Menu was unexciting.  Big, but unexciting.

Second problem.  The food was unexciting.  We had a cinnamon and pear muffin.  I guess it was good.  Nothing to write home about.  I think I could get a similar one at starbucks.  My food came out.  It was good.

Then I left.  And I wrote this review.  And now I will probably forget about Sam's Morning Glory Diner.

Oh yeah I have to edit in, the ketchup was really gross, and I won't forget that.  I don't get anyone who loves that WTF?

I went here for brunch last week and sat at the counter. I was in no rush, so the fact that it took 15 mnutes to get a glance and a menu didn't even bother me. One look at the menu and I instantly invited my sister to come join me. I put my name on a waiting list and requeted to sit outside. I waited 40 minutes for a table on a Monday afternoon, only to be told I could not sit outside because they were having such a hard time running food. This was immediately after I saw them seat 2 guys outside.
I was intrigued by the menu, and the drinks- ginger lemonade and mint tea were fantastic. I wish we could have caught our waiter for a refll after paying for about a 6oz glass. The food was good. We had a fritatta which looked and was amazing and a homemade veggie burger. The only interaction we got with the waitstaff was ordering, and the delivery of our food. Our overworked sweaty waiter gave me a look like a dog wanting a reward after going to the bathroom when he finally put our plates down. My "brunch" on a Monday afternoon took 3 hours... I was so turned off by the service I doubt I will go back though.

I had heard a ton of great things about this place and one horror story. Both fortunately and unfortunately, I experienced neither when I finally brunched at this neighborhood establishment a couple months ago.

Upon entering, I was really excited about Sam's because it reminded me of my favorite breakfast spot in Boston. But after waiting forever to even have the opportunity to ask for my coffee, let alone the amount of time it took to receive it (without fix-ins, by the way), I was no longer pumped. I ended up mooching the cream and sugar from the folks at the next table over, but it worked out, because they never received ketchup or hot sauce for their table and had to do some mooching of their own. I wonder if Sam's does that on purpose, to promote camaraderie among diners?

As for the food, my frittata was quite good, but everything else (biscuit, fruit, potatoes) was sub-par.

I'll go back, but only if I'm in a brunch bind.

Sams Morning Glory is glorious

The bacon has layers of flavor and cooked when you order not microwaved. The staff is stressed but pull it off with ease and courteous as all get out. Everything is Cash only in this town and I didn't realize this all I had was credit. What a dummy I felt like but the waiter was super cool, he admitted he had done the same thing at another place refilled my coffee said its on the house enjoy my breakfast. I still feel bad but not because of the place they treated my dumb-ass with grace. Even if I did pay(shaking my head) I would still give it a rave review. Next time I bring cash and I will get a pancake with blueberries. Get the bacon though it's the best.
The wait is long but worth it.

Sam's Morning Glory has bangin' macaroni and cheese. They also have pretty good dessert-y style brunch items. Everything else is either meh or eww, including the service.

Our biggest beef with Sam is that he insists on making his own ketchup. This would be a noble feat if it wasn't so doggone nasty. Do yourself a favor and bring along a couple of Heinz packets.

Sorry, Sam.

Meh, is right.  I just don't get this place.  Service is so-so at best, food is interesting - but nothing to write home about.

Our worst experience here was pretty bad.  We went to Sam's for a lunch date.  We had a little over an hour to eat, so we figured we'd have heaps of time.  An hour later after ordering we asked our server what was up as we saw people who arrived thirty minutes FINISH their meals.  (We were so nice about it, because we've been servers in the past, and we know mistakes happen.)  Clearly he forgot to put our check in.

He comes back five minutes later, throws the food on the table.  A few minutes later Mr. Charm askes, "Was it worth the wait?"  No, it wasn't, but thank you for the lack of apology.

My advice - Pass Sams,  head down to 9th and Christian to Sabrina's.  The staff are less pretentious and the food is better.

Sometimes, people's expectations are downright unrealistic. This is a small operation in extremely high demand, so you will always wait and you will never have top-notch table service because it's impossible. They do their best. They are filling a void in the Bella Vista neighborhood by simply being a diner at all. A classic case of "If you build it, they will come," and they came... in droves. Be patient, and don't show up starving. Instead, go with the knowledge that you'll have a good 30 minute wait and enjoy yourself to the soundtrack of clattering silverware and bustling cooks struggling to keep up with the collective stomachs of their eager clientele. Their orange juice and bacon are both exceptionally delicious. When it's your turn, indulge.

I had this crazy a**hole of an ex-boyfriend who came to Philly and took me here once. Trust me, this guy was such a nut job that if I say his name, even a couple years later, my friends still threaten to kill him. Well, as you might imagine, going to any place I had been with him makes me want to vomit... EXCEPT HERE.

A month after we broke up, I flew to Philly to hang with Monica and this was the first place I wanted to go. It's just that good.

The long line is worth it to get into this tiny breakfast place. You can watch your skillet of yummy being cooked merely a few feet from you and my picky taste buds even dig their home made ketchup.

Eat here... you won't regret it!

Whenever I visit Morning Glory, I expect a few things.  One, there will be a wait.  Two, I will not be able to decide what to eat.  Knowing that everything is homemade including the ketchup and jam really makes you want everything on the menu. Plenty of specials to add to their regular menu.  I suggest trying one of the fritattas or trying the biscuits and gravy.

I'm not going to lie, finishing all that food in one sitting is feat and a half - but I was just the man to try. . . the food was dope but the portion size won the day.  Oh so sadly, I was defeated.  But, the doggie bag made a very adequate consolation prize.

I ordered the peppers stuffed with risotto, cannelloni beans, pork, and veal. The dish included not one, but two full red bells chock full of  risottoy goodness.  The peppers sat next to a super fresh bed of garden veggies and tender baby lettuce all bathed in a splash of balsamic vinaigrette.  Delicious.

To be honest the food was totally worth a 4th star, but I felt that the menu was a little heavy on the breakfast side of things.  While there were lunch style options available, I was really looking for something that balanced better between the two meals.  After all, it is a diner right?

PS - when you go ask for a biscuit, they are freaking awesome.

Ill keep this short caz i didn't have a good experience.  Well i ordered the special which contained some zucchinis, poached eggs, and some other stuff.  I don't remember what it was caz i felt like puking after eating the zucchinis.

The area was tight and pretty nice.  I know i should of ordered something normal not something weird like the one i ordered.  My GF ordered the breakfast pizza and it was ok not as bad as mines.  Overall i think the other "normal" foods are good and decent but this one ill surly pass.

Living right around the corner from this restaurant, you'd think I would be there all the time.  But, it's just OK in my book.  And, when you're totally spoiled by Honey's and Sabrina's, OK just becomes second rate.  Yeah, the food is good.  Kind of boring, but good.  My favorite item is actually a condiment; their strawberry rhubarb jelly.  So delish!  The service is usually good.

Best experience:  Hanging out post-birthday party bash with a big group of friends.  Just chillin', drinking coffee, and eating french toast with.... you guessed it, strawberry rhubarb jam.

Worst experience: Being sat under a leaky air conditioning unit that was dripping gross nastiness into my drink/food.  When my friend and I asked to be moved, our waiter gave us a dirty look, and said that there weren't any other available spots.  After threatening to leave, we were finally relocated.

I've been going to Morning Glory for 6 years straight and while I love love love it, I'm ready for some change. I would love to see a few new items added to this menu. I vividly remember my excitement when I saw a meaty fritatta on special. It had caramelized onions, chorizo, some kind of cheese. Anyway, that was YEARS ago.

All I'm asking for a little something new. Sure, the staples are great, but it's time for a face lift, methinks. I'll still wait for an hour to eat, but you know, just make it worth my while.

Yes yes, the wait is long, but lordy is it worth it.  They have free coffee while you wait outside under the awning among the neat garden sculptures, so they try to make it as pleasant as possible.

I can't add too much more to what the others have already said, so I'll just mention that their homemade ketchup is killer (even if you don't like 'chup, throw some on a bite of something just to try it), and HOLY CRAP their grilled banana bread appetizer is butterriffic and melty and decadent and you'll probably die three years sooner than you're currently scheduled because of it but damn it's worth ever bite.

Yes, I said appetizer.  Because you need a farkin' appetizer for breakfast.  YES YOU DO.

So it's either really early in the morning (like 5 am early) or the middle of the afternoon and you're hankering for some brekkie. Or you better be, because after doing some extensive research I discovered the best time to drop in is around 2 in the afternoon, otherwise you're in for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooong wait. Longer than it took to read that word. It's not a bad wait, though. They provide some sidewalk chalk that you can just go nuts with on their outside patio and waiting area. Some scribbles I read (and totally didn't write) were "Bay of Pigs was SWEET!", "Better red than not fed", "The COLD War", and a weird dude with a mustache. The wait wasn't too long, and I basically kicked my friend's sorry butt in tic-tac-toe a few times, so we were called in shortly and seated at a cozy table.

The menu at Sam's Morning Glory is short but impressive. Lots of frittatas, sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, and other delicious looking dishes. There's also lunch dishes that are probably good, I wouldn't really know though. Some notable favorites include pecan waffles complete with peach flavored butter; monkey French toast with caramelized mangoes and 'nanners, and salmon and goat cheese frittata. We got none of them though! I adored the Gardenkeeper's frittata with greens, ham, and potatoes and my anonymous friend ordered a focaccia breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese, and bacon. I recommend them both, especially if it's part of the breakfast platter, which includes a choice of grits or potatoes, a biscuit, and some stewed apples. All were very tasty, though the biscuit was definitely the standout piece and deserves a standing ovation. These aren't you're regular biscuits, not the kind you learned to make in seventh grade foods class or some KFC coupon deal, oh no, these things are monsters. The texture is more like a heavy cake, it's quite dense, but the flavor is 100% biscuit. Slather some butter on that sucker and you've got a small baked product fit for God, or, for you atheists, Bill Maher. Sam's Morning Glory also offers five or so desserts that include 'nanner cream and pumpkin cream cheese pies. They also have lots of homemade goods. The ketchup (which is basically marinara sauce), flavored butters, steaming hot chocolate (don't guzzle the fog machine in that son ova gun) are all home made. The environment is small and very mom and pop, not too far from south Philly and South Street, and the service is nice. This joint has reasonable prices for quality food (check plus!) and one unforgettable and all around magnificent breakfast experience. Our meal came to about ten bucks each, and extremely filling. If I could describe Sam's Morning Glory in two simple words: So moist. Or brilliant biscuits. Or delectable diner.

My BF and I visited Philly cuz we wanted to see the liberty bell. We arrived at probably 6am and we were hungry. By chance we happened to park next to Morning Glory Diner. We noticed that it received a lot of awards so we decided to check it out.

I don't remember what my boyfriend had, but I had the breakfast pizza. At first, I was intrigued when I saw it..but when I tasted it...it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I was expecting it to have some tomatoes but it didn't. Instead it had caramelized onions which to me made it taste a little weird...don't get me wrong I LOVE ONIONS but just not this time. Although I don't remember what my BF ordered, all I remember was it falling apart because it got sooo damn soupy! I felt so bad for him because he felt like vomiting.

So all in all, we did not have the breakfast experience we were hoping for but it was a cozy place and the service was ok.

This is another place that I will never understand the hype surrounding it. The food is good but  i don't know why it draws such insane crowds every weekend. I mean hello, there are other places in the city to get your brunch on. Stop coming here to my block and parking like jerks!
Annnyyywaayyy, onto the food. This place declares itself as a "finer diner". It's fancy and it's kinda expensive, two things diners really shouldn't be. I like a diner where the waitress smacks her gum and calls me "hun".
But I do like the pancakes with the fresh blueberries and stawberries. The maple syrup is delicious, none of that Aunt Jemima "pancake syrup" nonsense. I like eating a shortstack of pancakes and not feeling like I'm going to die of fullness and regret. I never get those feelings when eating the pancakes at Sam's.
Everything else to me is just kinda blah. People seem to love the ketchup here but in all of my experiences eating at Sam's I find that it really doesn't taste like anything.
The Morning Glory really to me, just does not live up to the hype. I would not drive all the way from Jersey or the suburbs to wait half an hour to eat mediocre food. But hey, that's just me.

Recommended to us for good brunch, my buddy and I decided to check this spot out on a Thursday morning...our first full day during our short stay in Philadelphia.

I ordered the tofu scramble (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), complete with a biscuit, potatoes and some apple cinnamon sweet dessert side, along with green tea (served in this cute tin-type cup with a slice of lemon). Pretty good. I don't know what I expected the tofu to look like. I guess I just wasn't quite expecting tofu squares...but something that more resembled scrambled eggs? Oh well.

She ordered granola with soy milk. She was going to order granola with yogurt but they don't have plain, just the fruity kind.

We didn't have to wait. We sat ourselves down. I've heard this spot gets pretty crowded on the weekends.

If I'm back in town, I will definitely come back to order other (just-as-yummy, if not more) food items.

I've heard so much about this place. Finally got a chance to try it out this week. I went on a Wednesday morning and while there was a healthy crowd, it wasn't too overwhelming and we didn't have to wait.

The food is satisfying, particularly the huge fluffy Challah French toasts that sandwiched caramelized bananas and mango (the Monkey Stuffed French Toast).

My favorite part about the place is its effortless blending of the cafe and diner aesthetics, making it an ideal brunch spot.

This is another one of those places that has just so many good dishes. You want to try everything. I, most recently, had a meatloaf sandwich that was fantastic.

Come here and try something. Go with somebody who will order something different. Try theirs. Be happy.

I grew up down the block from this joint, and I knew it way back when it had names like "Al's Satchel" and "Romano's", so I think I have the most say on this matter. Sam's is a nice little spot that I wouldn't dare go near on the weekends when it becomes overcrowded with yuppie scum and New Jersey. No offense, I have friends and family from Jersey and have many good memories of the Garden State, but you people really REALLY need to learn how to parallel park. I mean, you take up all the spaces in the area, and when you do it, you park so poorly that you take up two spot and my mom can't get her car out. Thanks, guys.

Onto other things, the food is homestyle, cooked on the spot on the grill behind the counter, the coffee is always flowing at breakfast (and served in a cowboy mug), the dessert menu changes daily, with tempting fresh-baked pies and cakes.

One thing to remember: It's a fancy diner, with fancy diner prices. It's not really a locals joint, although my neighborhood of Bella Vista has changed face a lot over the years (we used to have a crack house down the block, now it's all upper-class starter-families), so this type of place and it's prices are more appealing to the new crowd.

If you want to check it out, I suggest going on a weekday morning. Then, you'll have a chance to get a table without waiting an hour-plus, and the waitstaff will be much more attentive.

Thank you Sam, whoever you are!

The moment I saw a grilled Ahi tuna BLT on a brioche bun on the menu (this is a DINER menu!), I knew I was in another world. Yet, I didn't even order it, because there was something better on the horizon. The special. Trail Mix Waffles: cinnamon and vanilla batter waffles stuffed with fruit and granola, and topped with fresh berries and a dollop of yogurt. Wow!

Of all the years I've been going to diners -- and I'm an admitted junkie -- this is probably the first time I've ever not ordered the pancakes on my first visit. In fact, I didn't order the pancakes the 2nd time, either. There's too much good stuff on the menu to be had.

As a disclaimer, I should state that I've never had to endure one of the legendary waits here because I always go by myself for lunch and simply sit at the counter. I've also never experienced any particularly bad service, but I've seen plenty of it happening around me. They are constantly busy, and like any business these days, they're under-staffed, so I feel for the employees. That is, until they do something to tick me off.

Anyway, the Morning Glory Diner is still just that: a diner. Don't expect 5-star French cuisine and you'll be happy. It definitely goes above and beyond typical diner food and is the 2nd best diner I've ever been to.

Went on a weekend morning with my girlfriend

When we got there we immediately noticed a wait... Went to the outdoor waiting area and put our name on the list... About 35-40 minutes later we were called.

We were seated and my girlfriend was immediately impressed with the table setup and the coffee cups... Everything on the menu looked like it would be delicious.

We split a short stack of choc chip pancakes...some scrambled eggs...an order of potatoes (they provide really tasty ketchup as well)...and toast.

Everything was delicious.. The price was right and the service top notch.

Probably best on a weekday as the weekend wait was a bit long.

Top notch breakfast place though in a battle of morning glory vs sabrinas... sabrinas takes the cake.

If you're going for brunch after a long night of good times you'll be tempted to give or take a star based on how long you have to wait and what kind of weather there is for waiting in.

Great nouveau diner style food- just enough gussying up to arouse your taste buds but not leaving you shaking your head wondering why you couldn't just get some damn french toast.

And they make their own delicious, slightly spicy ketchup!

This place has been a big disappointment -- given that breakfast is my favorite.  But in my handful of visits to Morning Glory, the eats have been hit or miss.

Inedible, undercooked (or overcooked) pancakes and just-eh omelets are standard fare.  And even when the food is properly cooked, it's simply not executed well enough to justify enduring the terrible service.

There are too many good brunch spots in Philly now to settle for a mediocre diner where the waiters and cooks act like angry hipsters.  If the service is all snarl, you should at least be able to back it up with superior food.  Not happening here.  My advice: walk a couple of blocks to Sabrina's.

I love Morning Glory. I've tried their fritatas, breakfast pizzas, egg breakfasts, sandwiches, and omelets, but that's not why I go. I frequent Morning Glory for the carbs - the challah french toast, pancakes, and waffles - because it's the best around. (go big or go home, anyone?) They offer daily additions to the menu, which are usually amazing, but the staples are more than enough to suffice. Oh, and the breakfast sausage is DELICIOUS. I don't even LIKE sausage!

The wait isn't bad--it gives me an excuse to order a bigger meal...

Sam's Morning Glory..was not the "finer diner" i've heard/dreamt it would be.
The food was good..breakfast burrito was prettty tasty and I totally dig the ketchup.
The service was horrrrrrrrrrible and the coffee was weak, two huge players when it comes to brunch if you ask me.

Morning Glory was not the glory of my morning today.
I wouldn't go back.

This is the best kept lunch secret in town. Sure, you might wait well over an hour for a weekend brunch table, but if you can hold on to your cravings for challa french toast or a killer frittata, then check out his brunch place mecca on a weekday. No lines, plenty of room, and the service can't be beat.

In terms of the food think southern Grandma's homemade biscuits and Pecan French Toast with Peach Butter to die for. With only the freshest local ingredients (it is after all located within the bounds of South Philly's Open Air Market) Their Frittata puts the Italian in the Italian Market. While the Homemade Ketchup isn't for everyone, their breakfast potatoes sure are!

There's something for everyone on the menu at this adorable cafe located in the Bella Vista section of Philadelphia. You'll walk away full and happy, just like a trip to Grandma's!

I've been back twice more and had a great experience both times. One more star for you! :)

Definitely try the smoked salmon and goat cheese omelette (see pic). The plate also comes with a biscuit, cinnamon apples, and home fries. All this for $10. Yum! I've also tried the pecan waffle and thought that was also pretty good. The peach whip cream gave it a very interesting twist.

Definitely is now my favorite brunch place in Philly!

I have a strong love/hate relationship with this place and I've only been here once. The food is fantastic, on par with Sabrina's and better than Honey's (sorry), but the decor is 'meh', the service is 'bleh' teetering between blatantly rude and nonexistent, and the wait was an hour and a half. (Also, why aren't they utilizing the outside portion of the restaurant where people on the waiting list are sitting? That's a big area and it would help cut down on the wait time. Just sayin'.)

Anyway, back to my rant. To be treated like a pain in the ass after you just waited an hour and a half to sit down and have your morning coffee (at noon) is annoying. I know you are busy, but it's not my fault that there are only 2 servers in a packed restaurant.

Part of me wants to say, 'Never again!' but eff that. The Butternut/Acorn Squash fritatta was on point and I'm sure everything else is nothing short of amazing. I'll see you again, Morning Glory.
