A hidden gem of a family run Mexican American place that will blow you away. Not much on atmosphere, service or location but the food is out of this world. Huge menu of Mexican and American breakfasts, Over 100 items on the breakfast menu alone and that's before you start making up your own. Enough pancakes, combos and sides to make an IHOP quake. For lunch another half hundred hamburgers plus soups, salads and sandwiches hot and cold.
Now the good stuff: The best Barbacoa this side of Hildago. Barbacoa is short hand for slow roasted Lamb, Sheep or Goat. Don't let that scare you, the full rich flavor of the tender, fat free, morsels of lovingly prepared and served deliciousness will convert you forever. No gamy, tough chewing here. Traditional Mexican Combos, Platos, Tacos (Soft) and Burritos are worth the trip. You can fill up for the day on less than 10 bucks, much less! Top it off with bottled or draft beer or wine and you're in heaven.
Mexican food is good for the price. Value is there. Service isn't.
At all costs, avoid the burgers.. I think I'm still digesting it from yesterday.
Did I mention the service sucked horribly?
I really disliked this place. My burrito was unedible for fatty chicken reasons. Wouldn't do it again. Especially considering its proximity to Las Palmas and Mi Familia place in Marin Square.
If you live in San Rafael, you've probably driven by this place and thought it was an Italian restaurant. Well it's not. Its a funky, diner style Mexican place in the middle of the blue collar automotive area. How can you tell it's a good Mexican restaurant even before you order? When it's loaded with mexicans. This place has huge burritos, great soft tacos, sloppy but tasty tortilla soup and a bunch of american items thrown in for good measure. Free chips and salsa when you sit down (a rarity in Marin nowadays). Dump the overpriced places that dot this region and head here.
