1 review for Sambar
Sambar is a little student-run restaurant that raises money for Asha, a charity that aims to educate underprivileged children in India. It typically runs on Tuesday nights during the school year, but I'd check their website to both see if it's open and also to see the menu.
The food is home-cooked South Indian and always vegetarian. Everything I've had here has been good, although the desserts are a little too sweet. Their best item, the various types of Indian "crepes" like Dosas, take a long time to make, so come early or be prepared to wait. The dosas I had were large, but light and crispy and with a side of both a mild peanut chutney and a fiery tamarind sauce. Another favorite is the sambar itself, which is a spicy soup with vegetables.
Crowds can be a problem, but with the low prices and delicious food, that can be expected.
