The food is ok.

I would go back for just a decent casual dining or formal lunch because of the ambience.

I ordered the crabcake burger - crabcake was ok.

yes I am picky with my cakes!!

Before coming to the Orlando for business, I was told the area was known for chain restaurants. I expected the PF Chang's, TGI Fridays, Applebee's, etc. But I'd never heard of Sam Snead's. It was near where we were going for work and had a nice sign - I know, terrible way to pick a restaurant. But a tavern? Why not?

Once inside, it looked like a typical steakhouse. Not as dimly lit - but it had the deer's head on the wall, wood wall coverings...Seemed pretty popular. We were seated near our other colleagues (who had also chosen the restaurant on their own) and checked out the menu. Nice array of choices and plenty of good looking appetizers - we were starving!!

We started with the Bruschetta. Grilled thin slices of bread, doused with (too much) olive oil, and a nice tomato/onion/basil topping. I probably wouldn't get that again or say that it was worth ordering.

I'd heard the crabcakes were awesome, and we were at a steak place, so all three of us got the filet mignon and crabcake. It came with a side veggie and selection of a starch. The filet was fabulousssss - really enjoyed it. The crabcake was good too- A LOT of crab. The grilled asparagus was good but the saffron rice was somewhat bland.

Dessert: had to get key lime pie. I love key lime pie so I had to have it in Florida. It was just as good as ever; perfect graham cracker crust, totally tangy and topped with shaved lime rind.

Since this place was so close to where we were working, we went back again for lunch a day later. I have to say it was not as good as my dinner...I had a salad, which was not so hot. And I got a hamburger because I figured the beef had to be good. It came out well done though instead of medium well, and was pretty rock hard and burned. Not a fan. The french fries were OK. We'd also gotten the spinach dip with tortilla chips - tasted good but it was more of a cheese whiz mixed with spinach; a little different. The chicken niblicks were weird and not someone I would have picked. Fried won tons with shredded c hicken and some kind of creamy sauce. Wouldn't get those again.

I must say, the servers I had were really, really good. Especially the first time we went here. I was so impressed. Orlando has awesome customer service. I wish we were so lucky in California!!!

3.5 stars to 4 stars - dinner was great, but lunch was so-so.

Good food, loud restaurant: Overall we had a very enjoyable experience at Sam Snead's. We were seated at lunch time and the place quickly filled up and got very loud. The crab bisque was amazing!! The burger I has was good but a little plain but my companion's club was very good. Even though the place was packed our server was quick and attentive.

Cool place to go for a casual dinner..  Start off with the cheese dip, its A+++/then all the grilled chicken plates or the burgers are top notch..  Usually a good happy hour crowd from 5-7..  Good stuff.
