1 review for Sam Ash
Back in high school, I used to visit this Sam Ash location religiously. Any time I had some free time and spare cash, I was in Sam Ash (poorly) wailing on Gibson SGs and banging the hell out of their electronic drum kits. Times have changed a bit, and now I primarily do my music shopping at smaller joints like Fork's and Nashville Used Music, but Sam Ash is certainly one of the largest music outlets in the area.
True, Sam Ash is a fairly recognizable national chain. However, when it comes to musical equipment shops, there's really no telling what you'll run into from store to store, so customer reviews really tend to help. Sam Ash is certainly the largest music retailer I know of...it's kind of like if Walmart and Guitar Center had a lovechild on acid.
Chances are good that if you venture into Sam Ash, you'll run into a sales associate who wants to wail in your face more than he wants to help you find what you need. The drum guys are a bit more approachable, but pretty much anywhere you go in the store you'll find experts waiting to force their expertise upon you.
Sam Ash certainly has the widest selection of pedals, amps and cabinets and keyboards of any place I can think of. They also sell new and used cymbals as well as little necessities like strings, cables, drumsticks, picks, et cetera for pretty cheap. Overall, Sam Ash isn't a bad spot to shop around for equipment. I personally prefer a more intimate atmosphere with employees who just want to chat about what deals are the best on equipment, but if you're in the Rivergate area, this is certainly your best bet.
