Cute small place a block from South Seaport. Very nice decor-white, clean, Miami-like. Not too much seating but have outside seating as well. Small bar. Good drinks for Happy Hour 4-7pm. Food had great flavor but expensive...$35 for the prixe fix menu for the Fourth of July. Normally $24 I believe on a regular day. I had the lobster mini tacos (good but too much cheese for my taste), Steak had great flavor and a rum-coconut flan for dessert. Overall I liked the  place  and will return if Im in the area. This would not be a place for ones with BIG appetite as they serve SMALL Plates!

I came here about two months ago on a date, and I remember it being pretty decent, though kind of expensive for what we got.  The decor and atmosphere was very nice-- we sat outside, and it was thoroughly romantic and comfortable, and you could still hear the live band that was playing inside.

I had never eaten at a tapas bar before. I don't think my boyfriend had either, because apparently "tapas" indicates "really small portions", and we were not aware of this. In any case, we ordered some wine and some appetizers to share. The shrimp and avocado salad was delicious, and (almost) enough for me.  He ordered some sort of meager shrimp cocktail that came in a martini glass-- quite an attractive presentation, but very minimal in portion size. It was a good thing they served complimentary (and EXTREMELY DELICIOUS) plantain chips and bean dip.

I recall it being moderately expensive, but the food was so good that I would defnitely go back one day.

I went down to the South Street Seaport area for the first time ever with my boyfriend to meet up with a couple of his friends on a gorgeous Saturday. We were looking for a lunch place where we could sit outside and be away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists. Salud looked like the perfect option.

We started with a pitcher of sangria that was quickly devoured. The plantain chips and bean dip was excellent. We ordered a bunch of tapas and split them...obviously the best way to go. My favorite was the shrimp and avocado salad. My boyfriend and his friends had a round of tequila shots and a caiprinha. They loved them. I would recommend this place for a nice relaxing lunch with drinks outside if you're near the seaport.

meh, it was ok, prixe fixed menu portion were extremely small, but the happy hour makes it up.  Their happy hours runs from 4pm-7pm mon-fri.  They also have a live cuban band Tuesday and Thursday nights (7pm-10pm).  But, I highly recommend you to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Had friends in town from Miami (latin capital of the east coast) and we ate brunch here.  I figured they would enjoy tapas and Cuban music as much as I do.  And I was right!  They commented on the decor inside which looks like it could be in Miami- sheers, safari-inspired ceiling fans and palm tree plants scattered about the place.  The price fixe brunch gives you a nice variety of tapas including both paella and dessert.  You have the option of sitting outside, but we sat upstairs in the restaurant and were just as happy.

The four of us stopped in for dinner last Thursday night and it was fantastic.  I don't know what's in that bean dip stuff they bring out at the beginning--heroin maybe?  It tasted like sex.

The drinks were very strong and particularly delicious.  A caipirinha, if you've never had one, kind of tastes like a really strong margarita but not as limey.  The bartender pours with a very heavy hand. The coconut mojitos are to die for.

The food was really, really good.  The piononos (plantains with beef and cheese) were odd and I don't know that I'd order them again, but I'm glad we gave them a try.  The cubanito was predictably delicious, as were the grilled shrimp, faldita, and ceviche, and the langostacos were simply amazing.

The prices were a little spendy but considering the quality of the food, also surprisingly reasonable, especially for Manhattan.  We unfortunately only caught the last 20 minutes of the evening's live music, but the trio played a lot of Buena Vista Social Club and Ibrahim Ferrer covers, so that was pretty cool.

I don't know what kind of person would complain about the portions at a tapas place, but maybe they should stick to restaurants where they can supersize their meal.  For the rest of us, Salud is an adorable little surprise tucked into a quiet corner of the Seaport.

UPDATE:
I've since gone back to Salud several times, usually with local friends or out-of-towners, and it has exceeded my expectations no matter the night or hour.  The food is always fantastic, we never have to wait too long even without reservations, and the service and live music make the whole experience even more pleasant.  This place is amazing--go!

Not fresh. Mussels were shriveled and dried. Fresh shrimp was pasty. Lobster was dehydrated. Paella was boring. If you have to, just order the steak(if you must dine here). Or better yet, just order drinks.

Who knew? Excellent happy hour special that's not just beer and well drinks.  There's a special selection of caipirinhas, mojitos, martinis, and much more.  It is a small space, so reservations are highly recommended.  Great place to do happy hour and have tapas w/friends if you're not in the mood for a dive bar.  Not so great for networking and blind socializing.

Popped in here after my roommate had a small concert at an art gallery around the corner. I wanted to find a bar with a television to watch game 5 of the Red Sox/Indians ALCS game, but the musicians that I was with let out a collective groan on that one. Bunch of unsophisticated cretins.

The place had such an incredible feel. It felt tropical, but not kitschy. It's the kind of place that transported you back in time to a tropical locale where you would drink gin and tonics not just for the pleasure, but to get your daily dose of quinine to stave off malaria. Public health interventions with style and class - that my motto.

However, because I wasn't feeling particularly threatened by mosquito-transmitted plasmodium, I opted for a regular margarita. Tequila has some health benefits....  Well, it certainly had mental health benefits that night.

We sampled a few tapas from the menu as well. Skirt steak and yucca fries were fantastic as was the shrimp.  More people need to eat yucca. It's damn good.

This place is definitely worth a trip down to the Seaport. Luckily it's off the main drag where most tourists lull around. Not that there is anything wrong with tourists!

Definitely need to return for a second and maybe third visit to get a fuller feel of the place.  But, the first impression certainly was good.

My friend gave me text message updates about the game - the Red Sox won which made me very happy. This may have affected my view of the place as I was so euphoric that any and everything tasted good.  I'm pretty sure the food and drinks were good regardless.

This is a great place for drinks and tapas.  My friends and I arrived without a reservation, but were seated upstairs within minutes.  Our waitress was attentive and offered great recommendations for the tapas menu.

The palomilla steak was juicy and peppery, and the ham & cheese croquettes were smooth and filling; but the best thing on the menu was the homemade platano chips and guacamole - YUM!  Our waitress also brought us more chips without charge.

Overall a great experience.  I would go back for a special occasion, but it's a bit pricey for just a random dinner.

I went to lunch with my colleagues here for a going away outing and everyone really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.  The service was quick and the food was overall delicious.

The prix fixe lunch for $20 was a pretty good deal for how tasty each of the 3 courses were.  The portions were pretty sizable too with my favorite being the anticuchos which are basically steak and pepper kababs with lots of seasoning.

The final touch on this meal was personalizing a menu for our co-working that is leaving.  It had the date, the menu and "Farewell and Good Luck" along the top.  Very nice touch.

What a hidden surprise! Tucked away on a quiet(er) street in the Seaport is this diamond in the rough.  I went with two friends who had just moved into the area and were looking for something not overrun with NYU kids or tourists. They also happen to be vegetarian. The menu was mainly meat and shellfish but the staff was so unbelievably accomdating, preparing many of the offered selections with vegetarian options.  Dish after dish that was brought to us was wonderfully prepared that I as a nonvegetarian didn't miss the meat at all.  Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection.  The staff was friendly, super attentive but not overbearing at all.  Drinks were a bit pricey but delicious (i think the previous reviewer might have a wooden leg) b/c I caught a buzz after one (large) mojito.  All in all I highly reccomend this place. Go on in and expect to be dazzled.

Upon entering, the ambiance and decor of this place might lead one to believe they were about to embark on a culinary journey into Cuban deliciousness.  Do not be fooled.  This was the biggest joke of a restaurant I've been to of late.  Where to begin?  Firstly, let me just say that any restaurant serving weak $9 cocktails deserves to be blacklisted forever, period.  (After two caipirinhas and $20 later, I was barely buzzing.)  Secondly, the $20 "prix fixe" menu is a seemingly good deal, for a first and second course, and dessert.  However, the "courses" were nothing more than tapas-sized small plates, and the food was horrible.  Lastly, I've never seen a restaurant serve a plate of mussels, in which they actually serve EMPTY mussel shells.  Service was bad, food took forever to come out.  In short, spend your money elsewhere.
